Most beautiful cafe/bakery in all of Princeton! Very cozy and quaint inside. Very friendly staff that offered cucumber lemon water while I waited. Really want to have a tea party there sometime but I just wanted something to eat when I last went. The sweets are generously sized and absolutely gorgeous! I was actually in the mood for something savory so I had a prosciutto and salami sandwich. It was amazing! The bread was so fresh and it was so yummy😋. I love the outdoor eating area too. It was so picturesque. You can tell they put effort into every detail!

Pretty good cakes and pastries. I really appreciate that they are always open and there for you to enjoy the festivities of life, even on weekends and holidays. But in terms of the tastiness its a distant second to the Little Chef a couple blocks away.

Very promising French bakery with gorgeous setting and presentation yet quite disappointing service and even more disappointing taste.I really loved the background behind the counter with a lot of gorgeous tea cups and teapots. It was a common theme all throughout the restaurant and it certainly gave it that upscale feeling that youre about to get pampered. The price is certainly matched the upscale French cafes that Im used to and I frequently visit. The price is ranged from about 7:00 to $9 for a slice of cake.The service was a bit disappointing. We came to the restaurant 30 minutes before it was closing. There were some very picky customers in front of us but we waited patiently. Unfortunately the management doesnt really have the workflow figured out so it felt quite congested and we had to wait a while to get served. By the time our turn came the restaurant was going to close in 15 minutes. Needless to say that all of the desserts that they serve do not need to be prepared in any way other than boiling water for some tea. What was really bothersome is that we were reminded approximately 6 or 7 times that the restaurant is about to close and we had to leave pretty much as soon as we paid. I politely rejected the idea because I did not feel its appropriate for me to walk around and eating standing up. My belief is that if you let me into the restaurant you need to treat me with full dignity and respect until I leave or simply have an approach or a strategy of how to stop customers from coming in at a certain point. But if you already have the customers in the door I think its a big No-No to rush them out.We made it very clear that we wanted to taste all desserts and have a sharing platter. I believe the manager at the time said that it was fine but they could not find any platter nor did they obliged to have separate plates for us. The plates that we were given were just plain old white plates without any decorations that they used in the background.The quality of desserts was just awful.I have never tasted Pavlova cake that did not have egg whites Bizet. I think that has to be a simplest dessert out there. The desserts that was called Pablo cake was some kind of a cream ball. It was very soft.Similar experience with tres leches. This is a pretty traditional cake usually served in Latino restaurants that has a staple condensed milk. The one that we ordered resembled absolutely nothing in texture or The taste to the traditional tres leches that Ive tasted in variety of other restaurants. I am all for interpretation and experiments, but the core was completely missing. And for some reason or another it had a pink layer.The key lime pie was fantastic.Cassis mouse hes usually made out of black currant and has a light texture. It is normally bittersweet and mostly made out of mousse. The cake that Ive ordered had absolutely nothing resembling the normal taste or the texture.Oh when I requested a normal cups for my tea, instead of the paper ones, both women flat out rejected my request telling me I have to drink out of paper cups. I literally had to repeat my request four times and hand them the paper cups flat out telling them that Im refusing to drink out of paper.In summary, between being rushed out of the door by numerous people and being served food that was randomly labeled by misleading names, this was an overpriced fast food joint with very pretty decorations.

We came here on a whim one day and we were surprised as to how delicious the desserts were at their price point. This isnt a grocery store bakery, so dont expect grocery store prices. This is definitely an indulgence but we were so impressed with our first experience that we bought cakes for our families. They are not cheap by any means, but theyre fairly priced for the quality that they are. Some cakes are less impressive than others, but they all taste good. We love everything passionfruit and particularly enjoy all of their fruit tarts.

Wonderful cafe. Great food and service, even though often very busy. I’m giving it four stars to encourage them to use packaging that is more sustainable. I got an awful lot of non-recyclable plastic for one delicious treat and two espressos.

Best cakes in town. Thats a no brainer. Beautiful, lively, blooming, spring, french-vibe interior. I never ate here but every time I come for a cake I always see people sitting and eating happily. Would be a cool little lunch break, I think they have outdoor seating. Very beautiful very delicious

Very disappointed with my experience today. I wanted to order a birthday cake for my sons 18th birthday. When I called the day before to place the order and prepay, she told that there is no need to preorder. All I need to do is walk in on the day and pick up the flavor I need as long as it is 7 size. I even asked if they will run out of the flavor by the next day and she confidently told we have enough quantities. She said they close at 8:30 PM and asked me to come before that. I turn up at the store at 7:40 and to my shock they say that the chef left at 6:30 PM and they cant offer me the desired cake. I was shocked since this was a special occasion for me and my family. All they had to say was that there was a mistake from the person who answered the phone and they couldnt do anything. I am really hoping that I am the last customer who is treated like this. In future if anyone calls to place an order and you get a reply that no need to preorder, dont TRUST them.

Most pastries here are really great. However, it is a bit of more expensive than it needs to be.

The cakes are excellent. The one big PROBLEM is the amount of plastic they use. Each cake comes on a plastic and in a big plastic box!!! Come on, do like every bakery in Europe: use cardboard recyclable wrapping!

Cute place! Nice for an afternoon latte with one of their pastries. Can be a little pricey.

All the croissants were very very good - by far the best in area: moist and buttery on the inside without being too greasy. The outside had a very light crust. We tried the plain, the almond, the ham and gruyère, as well as the salmon and cream cheese. All were very good. The almond was the best almond croissant I have ever had. The prices are fair.

The macaroons are shockingly bad considering the price. You can only choose between 6 or 12 macaroons and even though the price says $1.75 I dont think thats what they charge.Every single time I go there the macaroons are stale and crunchy. I even tried going early in the morning to see if they were better fresh.I think the cases that theyre keeping the desserts in arent airtight or something because its all stale.

This is the reason we are taught not to judge a book by its cover. Drove by and thought, wow, this place is nice. Lemme illegally park real quick and go inside and bring something home to my wife and kids. (2) eclairs and a raspberry Napoleon for $26. Now to make matters worse. Imagine the end piece of a stale old piece of Italian bread. Now hollow it out and Stuff it with chocolate filling. Now squirt some Hershey syrup textured syrup on top. This is what this thing tasted like. In fairness, the raspberry “Napoleon” was ok but was textured absolutely NOTHING like a Napoleon, it was pretty much cake with raspberry filing. Place looks great!!!! But the quality is way below average.

Really awesome cakes and we had a problem with the birthday cake last weekend the manager drove all the way to the venue with my daughter’s cake I cannot explain how nice the gesture was! I understand that restaurants are short staffed and there are problems with providing people with their orders but some one to actually take up on themselves and rectify the problem is really amazing.class apart bakery and cafe !

The shop is quaint and so Parisian. The fresh pastries, Macarons and sandwiches are delicious. My favorite is the CA BLT. You cant forget the teas and coffees. Highly recommended.

Best place to get beautiful cake for any occasion. These are very pretty, very unusual and very good cakes you can buy a whole thing or a piece with a cup of coffee or tea. Lemonades, juices or sodas are available too along with some macarons, eclairs etc.

Have tried the mango mouse and Truffon cake here. There are tons of other options. This place is a gem and we drove here from Jersey city to get their amazing cakes. Highly recommend

I didn’t get the wedding cake design that I asked for, nor did the manager Shannon inform me that she couldn’t do what I asked for, Instead, on my wedding day I received a cake that was basically half of what I imagined it would be which was pretty disappointing.However, I do want to say it still did turn out beautiful for what it was, and It was still delicious.

I absolutely adored Chez Alice. Had to get out of the rain, and was pleasantly surprised at the beautiful decor. Have been going there for decades and it is now become a find in Princeton.

Got a cake for Fathers Day, but it tasted completely frozen. Berries on top felt fresh and the cake tasted nice once thawed, yet not very soft.

Ordered a Tres Leches from Chez Alice for a very special graduation party. The cake was super moist and so delicious that all 12” were wiped off in a few mins and it was a super hit! Other than the cake I want to give a shout out to Shanon the store manager for her amazing customer service . She personally ensured to come drop me the cake as the driver was running late and the cake hadn’t reached her store at the pick up time and was over an hour late. She went out of her way to correct that ! Thanks Shanon!!! :)

Great coffee and pastries but unfortunately served by school kids with no training. Worse, after spending $30 and wanting to work for 30 minutes was refused access to their WIFI. Possibly the only cafe in the world that would treat its customers that way. Wont be going back

Updated review August 2019: back down to 3 stars. Place never seems to have the ingredients to make half its menu. Its common to have to go through two or three items on their menu because they somehow dont have bacon this day or ham that day or chicken the next.Updated review March 2019: up from 3 to 5 stars. Chez Alice recently did some slight redesign and remodeling. The new look is more clean and contemporary, the menu is now more streamlined and modern, the art is less wacky and easier on the eyes, and theyve finally moved into the 21st century and got rid of their $10 credit card minimum.

Nice place but I can’t understand the pricing. The only options I was given for macaroons was 6 for $12 or 12 for $24. That makes them $2 each, yet they are all marked at $1.75. Do they charge $1.50 for the box that I am forced to get with my order?

This place is just lovely with its very well decorated cakes and dessert as well as pretty ornament collections. I had a piece of macaron and Ice Americano. The coffee was good, but the macaron was very disappointing, especially the nside stuff of the macarons texture was a little bit hard and unpleasant to chew.I gave three stars because of its very kind staffs and pretty interior for a coffee. For the macaron, one star might be the right star for its good shape and color, but not for the taste.

Friendly staff, beautiful decor, we enjoyed a oat milk latte and a charcuterie sandwich. It was a bit busy on a Saturday but we found seats after waiting about 10 minutes. Would love to see more vegan baked goods.

The ambiance is nice, but the quality of the food is really inconsistent and the staff dont seem well trained. One time I got an almond croissant and it doesnt even look like a croissant. It looks collapsed and the inside is moist and disgusting. Another time i also bought macarons and they tasted so stale. Dont sell failed/stale food to customers.

Very disappointed since new ownership took place. The customer service is so bad. And the last two times I purchased from them their macaroons and a pastry was stale. Eggs taste like plastic. Very sad that this beautiful establishment has gone so down hill.

Some macarons were ok and some tastes really stale. Also, if you enjoy feeling like a burden at a place you’re about to give money too, this is it.

I picked up a cake around 3.45 in the afternoon on 1/27. The girl who wrote a message on the almond cookie dropped the cookie on the floor, she made an eye contact with me (I could see that guilty look in her glance) when she realized that I saw her picking up the cookie she just took it behind the counter where they write messages on the cookies. Not sure if she threw it away or reused it. Feeling gross and uncomfortable. We are not going to eat this cake. Just threw it in the garbage.By the way the girl who served me was super sweet.

I recently got married in Princeton, NJ and chose Chez Alice to design my wedding cake. I had done a few tastings in the area (including a well-known bakery in Philadelphia) and Chez Alice was by far the best. Matt was wonderful to work with- I came into our meeting with so many questions and uncertainties about what design I wanted, and Matt provided fantastic guidance. Chez Alice created the perfect wedding cake that we loved and our guests raved about. The design was stunning- and it was even more delicious.Working with Chez Alice was so easy: they were professional, were very respective of our price range, and created an unforgettable cake for our wedding!

Really not impressed with the quality of this place whatsoever. I purchased 4 pastries about $30 worth this morning. When we tried them at home its clear they were stale or undercooked. The carrot cake I got actually seemed like they took some cream cheese out of a package and put it on the cake. I got something called an Ispahan and the macaroons on it were falling apart and not fully cooked. The only tolerable item we purchased was the Raspberry Napeleon which also tasted like its been sitting there and was now stale. To have not even 1/4 items that I got taste good and fresh is appalling, I wouldnt waste your time or money on the food here, seems a little overpriced and pretentious for the food they are offering. I also have a stomach ache from the food makes me want to vomit.

Last visit on Saturday 8/29/20 Well, I am giving 3 stars because the French baguette which was the worse I ever had! Dry, tasteless, when you try to cut it, the crust falling of, there was maybe good for bread crumbs! To bad I did not take a picture on post it.... The worst spent $5 ! Yes! They charge for the french baguette 5$ which is ridiculous price, but since, the cashier gentleman reassure me that is good, so why not to pay $ and try. I have no problem for paying top buck for something good! Usually is, you getting what you paying for! Not in this case! Big disappointment! I try to figure out why was their reason to sell dry, tasteless French baguette ...?no clue, I also purchased fruit tart and was very good. Can say high five for that! My advise, since the bakery specializing in pastry and cakes, then don’t do baguettes and bread....

Best place to go for almond croissants! This is my go to place when I am in Princeton for their baked goods. They also have a selection of brewed coffee, cappuccino, espresso as well as breakfast sandwiches, lunch sandwiches and healthy options.

Pastries were overall delicious and satisfying. Only complaint would be the fruit on tarts or fren taste canned and many of the macarons were hard instead of light and fluffy inside the cookie. Definitely worth the money.

3 stars because of the decor and large seating area inside. Theres also free cucumber and mint (?) water, which is probably the only good tasting thing in this place. Its a good place to sit down and catch up with friends.Got a rose and lavendar macaron- good flavor but very stale, obviously sitting out for a long time. My friend got a cheesecake, which again, the flavor was fine but just NOT FRESH. Its like the cheese part hardened and separated from the crust, which looked and tasted like cardboard. The only good caKe was the Tres de Leches which also had a layer of fresh strawberry jam.Im not sure if we came too late in the day or due to the pandemic/lack of business that the quality is not up to par. I honestly dont know how this place has a 4 star rating. This place may be visually appealing but dont let your eyes fool you. Was tempted to give 2 stars but Im willing to give this place a second chance.

Ordered grilled cheese and it was missing ingredients. My husbands egg sandwich was gross - bad quality croissant and a microwaved egg. Macaron was crunchy and stale.

We’ve given this spot plenty of chances, more than a couple of times the macaroons are stale. It’s very disappointing. They must make too many or not sell them fast enough, they keep them on display until they sell. The same could be said for the other pastries, they look pretty but taste old.

Was really excited to try the beautiful macarons here today but sadly they were the worst I’d ever had. So stale they fell apart when you bit into them and there was no flavor. I went on a Wednesday, so maybe it was their leftovers from the weekend? Really disappointed to pay so much for a treat I didn’t enjoy at all. Glad I didn’t get the larger pack.

Id like to give 5 stars because the pistachio macaroon was good. And I havent had the chocolate eclair yet, but it looks visually appealing and how can you mess up a eclair if you are a French pastry chef, so I know it will be delicious. The reason for -2 stars is because they got my ham and gruyere sandwich order incorrect. The register woman made a mistake and added +cinnamon raisin bagel instead of the baguette. I was so looking forward to a jamon et gruyere sandwich on a BAGUETTE. In fact I was waiting for my wife to goto the bathroom and I was salivating at the 2 feet of crusty french baguette staring at me in the basket across the pastry case (by the way, the croissants look deflated and sad). Anyway, who puts a ham and grueye sandwich on a cinnamon raison bagel? It wasnt too too bad tasting actually but I was looking forward to the baguette. But my issue is why did they get my order wrong at all. Frustrating. I would have went back in and Im sure they would have made it right but the joint was very busy and they a little short staffed so there was a little chaos going on, they didnt need me to screw up the works. Im sure I would have been met w blank stares anyway.

This is such a love patisserie that only keeps improving. I love their delicately made desserts (they have quite the variety!) and their afternoon tea. Some of their new additions like the Persian-influenced Ispahan and rose petal macarons are particularly delightful. They also make very good sandwiches. Its a lovely stop after some shopping on Palmer Square in Princeton.

I Love this place,let me explain.It was my bday and I needed a cake on the spot.I walked right in and bought a mango mousse.At first I thought the cake was a bit overpriced when I saw the price but I decided it would probably be worth it.When I cut the cake it was SO satisfying the sponge cake was so easy to cut!But when I tasted it the first bite I knew I had made the right choice as I scarfed up my cake.

Its been few years since I ordered first birthday cake from Chez Alice bakery, and since then they are my favorite place for birthday cakes. They always make delicious not too sweet cakes with beautiful decorations. This year I ordered cake which I wanted to look as a red fire alarm ( for my son) they did excellent job! My son absolutely love it! Very talented cake makers. Highly recommended!

I have been going to this place for a few years now, and today service and food was not up to par. Looks like they got all new staff. I ordered a buffalo chicken wrap and only half the of the ingredients were on it. The chicken tasted like it just came out the fridge. Coworker ordered a egg n cheese sandwich on wheat toast n the bread was not toasted so it was soggy from the heat. Not sure what happened here, but I dont think I will be eating here for awhile unless things change.

The chez alice salad is the best salad in princeton for the money. Packed full of apples, pears, walnuts, and delicious bleu cheese. Makes a great lunch on its own, but I often pair it with the chicken salad sandwich on toast.Highly recommend this place for lunch and dessert!!

The staff and food were amazing for our wedding. They made sure everything went smoothly once the staff arrived and took care of all the guests. They provided gluten and lactose free options and kept all areas of the venue clean. My one critique was that the staff did not know who the bride or groom were prior to the ceremony and so there was some confusion relating to set up and food allergies.Our coordinator Paula, however, was perfect! She was always on top of everything, never missed a beat, and kept us informed the entire night. We could not have had a successful wedding without her. She was our rock the whole night! I would rate her a 5 out of 5.
