This place is amazing. so many gorgeous pieces in fantastic condition. a wonderful selection of mid century modern furniture, clothes and household goodies! dont miss it!
Its a small shop but they do have a pretty interesting selection of items to look through. There is a big chunk of the store dedicated to clothing rather than antiques. Weve visited a few times to see what they had and they usually have some different and fun things to look at. The biggest issue is that some of the items feel a tad overpriced, and that has stopped us from making several purchases on items that we really liked. Other than that, its fun to just take a look at occasionally.
Unique place with a great staff. Only 14 people allowed in at once so there was a short wait but one girl told me the line is typically much longer! The store was very proud of their merchandise so don’t go in looking for a great deal. They have a nice selection of records and 70s stuff. We parked in the parking garage. Parking was a premium in that area. The parking garage was $2.00 for an hour so it wasn’t bad. It’s always great to explore new places so it was fun to check it out.
Found a blazer for my wedding here and it was very reasonably priced. Very vintage, very cool!
I love this place so much. They have the best vintage selection. I wish I could afford their furniture pieces! They are always bringing in new stuff, and the owners are so nice. The clothing selection is great as well. Get any Christmas sweaters, Halloween outfits, or just plain vintage cool clothing from here!
Nice selection of used clothes. Fair selection of home furnishings. Unfortunately, though, this place is very expensive.
I have gone to a lot of vintage/thrift stores in the area and the employees are always kind and try to engage with you. that’s not the case here. they allstand behind the register and talk to each other and do not engage with customers. it’s incredibly standoffish/offputting. their items are fine, but you can find better things for less and from nicer people.
Awesome finds! On the high end of pricing but everything in the store has been beautifully procured and the quality of the antiques are some of the best Ive seen. Record collection is on point too! Check this place out?
My favorite vintage store in Raleigh!
Very neat store with a great vintage selection prices very reasonable.
Nice little spot to pick up some b-side vinyl.
Best locally owned business in Raleigh. If your looking for great furniture and stylish clothes, Father & Son is the place for you. Also a really well made website, whoever made it must be the brains of the operation.
Fun mid century household items to look at. Currently 10 people allowed in the store at a time, but they manage it very well.
Just had time for a quick stop, wanted funky sunglasses-which did not disappoint!! Grabbed a fab pair of leather geometric earrings by a local artist!Very unique!I could have spent over an hour looking around if Id had the time!+
Awesome place to hunt around for cool and interesting items.
Great place to find vintage clothing. Prices are a little high, but justifiable since the owner has to hand select items from all over the country to bring them in. If you’re looking for vintage tees, varsity jackets or old military stuff, this is a great place to find it.
Great eclectic mix of clothes furniture and records.
First time I had shipped at the new location. It was much smaller than the last location, but things were well organized and displayed. It is a unique adventure visiting this store. They have some wonderful items.
As a 17 year old who works at a small, local coffee shop, I am extremely disappointed to give a local store a bad review. However, after the experience I had recently, I felt the need. I came into the store for the first time with two friends who have been there before. I loved the appeal and collection of the (slightly overpriced) items. My friend found a shirt she wanted to buy, a very simple graphic T-shirt that had no major significance that would make it a “collectible” by any means. The price tag showed $20; a very high price for such a plain shirt, but my friend really liked it. So I approached a worker as politely as I could and asked if she could give me a better price for the shirt. She said “it’s marked at 20, but what were you thinking?” I responded, respectfully, with “maybe $15?” I was in no way forceful or belittling, but the girl working (age 18-25) responded with “Absolutely not, you should never come to a store and ask for that high of a percentage off for something that is only $20, for future reference.” I had no idea how to respond to this. The other, slightly older lady working say “how about $17.” Since this lady was polite, and since my friend wanted the shirt, I bought the shirt for $17 from the approachable lady. I am still surprised an employee would ever treat a teenager so poorly. She could have politely said that $15 was too low, but instead she critiqued me as if I was some immature, rude customer. I don’t want to hold a grudge against the store or the employee; however, I hope this review will help the store (and employee) to correct customer interactions in order to treat each person with the respect they deserve as a customer.
Pretty expensive for a thrift shop atmosphere. There were t shirts from the 80s that you could find at any given thrift store for no more than 2 bucks but they wanted full price. Some of the t-shirts were 10 bucks and up. Most everything is really pricey but if youve got a fat wallet then theres cool things in there which is why I only gave it 3 stars.
A lot of goodies and quality clothing and many other things! The lady was super friendly and helpful regarding other local places to visit in the city. Loved it.
Gorgeous mid century mod
Great staff. Great prices. Great selection. Awesome antique and vintage stuff here.
I was having a hard time finding a parking spot because it was Sunday and i didnt think Id be able to look around because by the time I parked it was 4:45pm and they close at 5pm on Sunday. I went in there and was promptly greeted. I was looking for something very specific and i found what I was looking for. They even tried to see if they could help me locate similar items. They allowed me to take my time and stayed open probably 30 minutes after the time they were supposed to close. They even gave me a deal on the item that was already priced at a great price. I will definitely be back.
Always something fun and interesting. Prices for furniture are usually out of my budget, but the pieces are incredible - almost museum-like. Ill be purchasing as soon as my bank account will allow. This is the place to go for anyone doing some home decorating.
This is one of the most interesting places to visit in Raleigh. I always bring out of towners here, and its not bad for a date either. Four levels of off-beat antiques, vintage clothes, and art in a building with character. If youre looking for unique decor items, this is the place. They specialize in modern furniture from the 60s and early 70s.I just wish that the fire marshal let them keep the basement open - that used to be the best part!
Not so much an antique store as it is a clothing store with vintage items. It is basically hipster BS. There none clothing items are all over priced used furniture because instead of buying used, you are up cycling / repurposing. I was really hoping for an 1hr search through all kinds of weird old items and definitely a wide variety of furniture. What a disappointment that has been.
I have been to this store many times, old location as well and consider myself a recurring customer. Highly doubt I will be back as I had a terrible visit this past weekend. During my entry to the store this weekend I found this cool odd looking lamp at the front. I picked up the lamp up to see how you would insert a light bulb and a piece became detached. An employee (hopefully NOT the owner) approached me and said “I hope you didn’t break it, it’s a $400 lamp!”. He took the lamp and walked away. Nothing else was said and I felt like I was being watched the whole time I walked through the store making sure my arms were folded. No intention for breaking or altering anything in their store and to be honest there was no price tag. If there was one that said $400 I probably would not have even looked at it. I was extremely embarrassed and upset by the way I was reprimanded and sarcastically talked AT, especially when I have bought so many items from here and at their old location. Will find another store with friendlier staff to bring my business to.
Pretty cool store. lots of selection in clothes. some a little ratty for my taste. I was able to find a great pair of cowboy boots for Karen at $30. A good price and they were in very good shape. I would recommend this place for someone wanting to check out a thrift store, old clothes, nick knacks kind of place.
Really cool store. prices are very reasonable too. only complaint is there were obvious scratch marks on wood furniture from chairs being sat on them for display.
Always a fun place to visit. The new location feels a bit more curated, as the sq footage is around 4x smaller. All the MCM furniture I saw was in great condition, and there was a great selection of vintage clothing and art.
If youre looking for things to do in Downtown Raleigh then this place needs to be on your list. A lot of old school Raleigh flavor and local color. You can easily burn an hour or two perusing all the vintage clothes, furniture, oddities, knickknacks, and records. Basically like a mid-century to late-twentieth-century museum that you can buy things from. Definitely hit this dank spot up.
Really cool collection of random items. Not very organized so it takes a bit to find items you may be looking for. Upstairs there is an art room dedicated to photography and they do some awesome work! I visited on a very cold day, their heat is a bit to be desired. They told me that they are moving to a new location soon. Friendly staff!
Great shop! Very nice experience and friendly people. Anticipate returning next trip to the area.
Always find rad stuff here. I miss thier old location
Unbelievably overpriced
Sweet little place! There is a lot to discover, polite staff, everything is very organized, not smelly, a little dark, but overall great experience.
Father & Son has just about anything you didnt know you were looking for! Three floors of odds and ends from days gone by. Two areas they specialize in are clothes and vinyl. I have found some really nice records there for reasonable prices!
Cool place to find high quality vintage furniture and other items. Can be a bit pricey, but you usually get what you pay for. They get in some really unique pieces, particularly mid century modern design.
I used to love the old location of Father & Son because it was huge and had so much variety to it. Now it’s in an old art gallery space and have little to offer now. Was a very disappointing selection compared to what it used to be.
I regular shopping there and ALWAY love that store. I notice that they sell lot 70s stuff alike toy, clothes and even furniture. They also sell weird cool picture and arts too. I feel like that place is museum but it not... it is store.
What unique items. If you are looking for one of a kind items, shop here. Follow them on social media because they post their latest awesome finds.
Father & Son has been one of my favorite local cool spots for finding awesome gear. If you like vintage retro awesome stuff, then this should be your jam. I visit semi weekly.
Father & Son is full of so many quirky, legitimately vintage, and truly wonderful items it is kind of like walking through a history museum, albeit a museum you can interact with and buy from. Its a little overpriced for a thrift store (you could just go down the street to the Goodwill a couple blocks down and buy the same item $10 cheaper), but they have a good selection of all the quirkiest, most colorful, most wonderful looking and genuine items, and theyve filtered stuff down for you so that you can choose from the best, or the most interesting, or the weirdest, or the most dazzling. You can get anything from old Doc Martens (if you look hard enough or come at the right time), pianos, working typewriters, old Polaroids, cameras from the 40s, stripper gum, bell-bottom jeans, or some serious stilettos. Despite its priceyness, its a real downtown Raleigh gem.
This is truly one of my favorite places to go because the ambience is so cool. If you love truly vintage and retro items, come here immediately ;)
Its just a cool place with a ton of interesting items. You wont really find any bargains but compared to other antique/consignment type places its not bad.
Great antique shop. It was hard to leave even after being there for an hour. Fantastic record collections.
Lovely place!! My friend took me here and I was enamored by the wide selection of vintage clothes. I only docked a star because the vinyl section(s) was a bit difficult to browse. Could use some organization in that regard.
My wife and daughter were sitting on a vintage chair in this store, evidently this bothered one of the Male staff members and he walked by and asked if they could not. Very unprofession considering nothing was being harmed by my daughter sitting down.
There just really isnt much of anything here. The new location is a little easier to move around, but most of what the store sells is junk. There are a few decent furniture items, Ill admit. But geez, the rest is just ugly.
I am a regular at Father & Son. It is close to the downtown Raleigh Church I attend. I love how they always give me great deals on already fairly priced merchandise. I own my own baking and catering company, and I use vintage serving pieces; to date, all of them have come from Father & Son. I highly recommend these guys.
Wow...three floors of fantastic finds from retro to vintage I always walk out with something unique. Love the spunky staff! Always a great place for interesting conversation.
LUV THIS PLACE! The staff was overwhelmed the day we went, but this is a fantastic 3 story vintage shop! Lots of great stuff for every budget.
Love this place. Youll spend all your money and your house will be full of things that you dont need, but mysteriously youll live a life of smiles and euphoria. If Heaven existed, it would probably be inside this store and Jeezus would be wearing a retro trucker hat.
Best place in Raleigh for mid-century furniture and anything retro or vintage. The also have a nice selection of colthes. Go pop some tags!
Still an all time favorite for me! Love to visit when I am in town and always have with the best goodies!!!!
More of a vintage/thrift store than actual antiques, but with that in mind, Father and Sons has some excellent stuff, and a little of everything! Mostly 1950s to modern. Furniture, clothing, decor, vintage electronics.
Bought two pairs of the coolest sunglasses!!! Very cool place.
Wonderful trip back in time, endless vintage stuff. Nice way to spend a weekend afternoon.
Some of the items are a bit pricey but most of it youre going to be hard pressed to find it anywhere else let alone under the same roof. Classics and antique items. Always find something I neeeed to take home (but dont always do). One could spend hours in here.
Great place to find true retro or danish style furniture. Not to mention the crazy amounts of vintage clothing and other awesomly random finds. Father and Son and a really FUN place to shop. Check it out!!!
Great little antique store with lots of interesting finds and nice quality pieces!
Not much there
Such a fun shop with lots of neat finds!
This is a cool antique store full of interesting stuff focused on the mid century. Always something new to see when you stop in.
Friendly owners, beautiful vintage finds!
Honestly way overpriced, too heavy of a furniture focus, and signs everywhere telling you what not to touch.
I could (and have) wander around this three story shop for hours. Tons of old vinyl, clothes, furnishings, art, and random other stuff. Rumor is they are moving to Durham at some point, so come while you can.
Overpriced compared to your typical antique store but they have some really great pieces. The curator definitely has a good eye for mid-century modern furniture and decor.
Very cool place. Neat furniture and great clothes and jewelry.
An assortment of items but it all depends on ones taste
My daughter and I had a great time shopping there today!
The store was great! But the employees were awful. Did not greet, make eye contact, or even interact with any of the customers. I wonder if the owner knows this.
Its a little strange. Lots of things from the 60 and 70s in there. It is worth checking out but still a little bizarre.
The Gold Standard of Kitch and Mid-Century aesthetic
Super cool place, always has some beautiful furniture
Great selection of post modern furniture. Clothing selection is expansive
Really interesting stuff, way bigger than it looks from the outside. Helpful, friendly staff.
Love this place. Bought a lot of furniture from them over the years.
Some cool stuff but underwhelmed by merchandise and found it a bit pricey
Good place to get the hard to find. Staff is helpful.
Lots of very unique items
I just love it. Great cloths. Kool.
Top floor: the used vinyl record store mecca. Not just quantity, but quality.
All ways cool stuff here. But the items usaully arent my style
Love this shop! Have some of my photography in the gallery upstairs.
Exquisitely old-fashioned knick-knacks and books and clothing and decor.
Will never go there again its like a Goodwill store no antiques
I had a great experience here. The owners are friendly and I found ok stuff for all my kids...
This place is awesome. tons of retro stuff.
Kinda expensive but the massive store has tons of really interesting things to look at
Large enough to make it worthwhile for me to take the time. Like how its organized can find some neat things prices not always great
I have been a customer since Brian had a booth in Moore Square. I have been to mid-century stores all over the country, and this is by far my favorite. For those who think the prices are high try going to Charlotte, DC, Tampa or even check out ebay. I think if you know anything about Danish modern or midcentury furniture, you would realize that the merchandise is very well researched and priced. The store is not going to look like Target, items are used, but really, that is the reason to come. You never know what you will find. I have bought Hans Wegner, Kai Kristiansen and other high end designer pieces for decent prices. No, they wont bargain for a 20.00 item-if you ask that, then you are either ignorant or misinformed. It is not a flea market. If you buy a larger piece, they are very willing to negotiate. My advice is to research this era so you know what you are seeing before you make rash judgments.
Cool things, cool clothes and even a toilet!
