Im a traveling medical professional thats here to work for a week at a hospital. The most unwelcoming restaurant Ive been to in a very long time. We was greeted by hostess from behind counter. She pointed to where we could sit. She came to table to inform us shes just the hostess and that our waitress will be with us shortly. We informed her that were first time customers. She took our drink order. My issue is with our supposedly waitress. She waited on a man that came in after us. She waited on 3 other tables before she decided to come to our table. We left and will never return. I will make sure I tell my colleagues at the hospital about the service or lack thereof. I will also post other reviews. Such a cute diner. However, I feel we walked into the wrong diner.
Great, classic diner. 50s decor, friendly servers, fast service, wide variety on the menu. Not gourmet by any means, but worth a visit for the atmosphere. Ive not had anything that was bad.I go here when Im by myself because I can always sit at the bar and chat with the staff. Everyone is super friendly.Bring your quarters for the Jukebox! 🎶
Grilled cheese was cold soup was good server never came back to my table so I couldn’t complain about cold food ate half waited 35 min to get my bill and then I had to ask for it.The hostess told me was only one server and one hostess you’d think the hostess could help out was only 10 people in the place.I’ll come back but Taylor is not the waitress for me.
Food was great. Large menu with huge variety. Nice little hole in the wall place.
This little gem never fails to be the best breakfast. Just warning you be prepared to be in a busy environment because everyone else knows it’s the best as well. If there is a little wait for a seat I promise it is worth the wait! WHOA waffle is awesome!
Sat down for dinner. Waitress took drink order, 3ice teas, one soda, one shake and one hot chocolate. Took 20 min just to get our drinks and I had to ask for them. There was only 2 other tables. Then took our order. Then another gentleman came in after we got our drinks and ordered after us. Then another table came in and ordered after us. Ordered a hot dog and salad, bowl of soup and BLT, hamburger and fries and omelette. Another 40 min went by and no food so I asked what the issue was. The food was all waiting, they brought out all the food at the same time and instead of a bowl of soup, it was a cup. For how long we waited no one came over to check on us. The hot dog was cold and the hamburger and fries were cold.
Incredible breakfast food. Very nice staff 😊.
Im here visiting for the weekend and came here with my friend and I can honestly say we’ll be back to make this our permanent breakfast spot! French toast was fantastic and eggs and sausage cooked perfectly, and sweet tea was awesome and home brewed as well. Thanks to Lori for being an awesome waitress!
I ordered Grannys Chicken Club. That food was awesome. What was most impressive was the service. Victoria was a sweetheart. She made sure I had everything I needed. But, not only Victoria, but the other servers made sure they checked on me when walked by. Usually, at other restaurants if its not their customer they dont check, but not here. You guys rock!
Every time we are in the Cary NC area, we stop by the Shiny Diner. It is good-basic diner food ... and thats a good thing. Great nostalgic atmosphere inside and most of the wait staff weve experience have been great. Always look forward to going back.
The food is good and prices are too. The handmade potato chips are very good, near the best I’ve had. The pancakes are light and fluffy, the scrambled eggs are good, the bacon is good, the white bread toast comes buttered and is light and toasty.Everything we have had here has been good. I agree that sitting under a speaker cluster can be somewhat annoying.
I LOVE the breakfast! The food is delicious and always out at a reasonable time, regardless of how busy the place is! Large menu with breakfast, lunch, and dinner specials. Prices are kind of high but well worth it!
Classic diner, and literally shiny. Super good milkshakes, the food is average diner fare. Worth the visit!
Always wanted to try this place and Ill say this I will never go back again. Food was cold and blah and customer service probably the worst i have experienced in along time. Definitely didnt go to the same classes that Chick Fil A has. Hostess was rude coming in and leaving. The Shiny Diner just lost two first time patrons forever.
First off, this place is super cool and retro inside so that was enjoyable. However, my boyfriend and I went for breakfast one morning so I can only speak on their breakfast... and it was just alright. Nothing really special about it at all. I ordered waffles with chocolate chips and strawberries and the strawberries were either previously frozen or from a jar or something because they looked not good; thankfully they put them on the side so I wasnt stuck picking them off my waffles. It would have been nice to have fresh fruit. Oh, and a glass of OJ is like $5! With no refills! So that also took us off-guard but at least the waitress told us that beforehand. In summary, their breakfast was basically Dennys quality and idk if well be back. If we do find ourselves back there, we wont be ordering their breakfast.
This northerner definitely enjoyed the food, service and southern hospitality at The Shiny Diner. 60s theme styled with a jukebox at the table was a great treat for my 10 year old who didnt have a clue what the box was. lol. Kaela our waiter was a pure pleasure. She was Attentive, Friendly and made our dining experience a great one. My family and I will definitely visit again the next time we are in NC.
Great small dinner, good food better smiles. Even better when you hear the quarter rolling down the old style jukebox
Great food, good quality and very good service. Neat environment too.
When I called the waiter lady said they dont sell steak sub sandwiches. She explained that they sell steak burgers. The burger is steak chopped. Very confused. Had to look somewhere else to place an order. She also had to correct me when she answered the telephone. I said I would like to put in an order for pick up. She said you would like to place an order? Just her old way of thinking and confusion turned me away. All I wanted was a steak and cheese sub and a hot dog. She also, because I didnt have a taste for chips didnt want me to refuse the complimentary chips with the hot dog I only wanted! Weird.
One of the only places that tastes liked my Mom used to cook.
Best flounder I have ever had. And Ive had a lot. Friendly service. Comfortable atmosphere. Sad ranch. Solid diner option with lots of menu options.
The meal was outstanding. The service was very friendly and well knowladge about what they have. The best breakfast I had in a long time. Keep up the great service and you will prevail with many customers. Thank you again.
Best freaking pancakes ever!!! Like so good you dont need syrup...
Id rather you didnt go there at all so I wont have to wait as long to get my delicious food.
Still good but not as good as it used to be. I had a Rubin more like a sour krout sandwich. Barely any corn beef on it. Like one slice. One huge pile of krout. It was the worst one I ever had there. Its not the same place I remember from 5 years ago. I wont order that again.
Cute diner with regular diner fare, and a 50s theme. Really enjoy it here! Coffee is good, and the options for pancakes and waffles are great, too!
Awesome every time Ive been, waitresses always very friendly . Reminds me of going to Melbas downtown Cary back in the 80s and 90s. Highly recommend the Flounder 😁
The food was delicious, when it arrived. It wasnt busy but it took forever to get the waitress to come take our order, or even look our way, and there were several of them standing around chatting together. When the food came out, my blueberry pancakes were still raw in the center, and so we had to send them back. They returned the same pancake back to me heated up further, and I know this because of the tear I put in it.Everyone else loved their food, and I still loved mine, but I took this as an off night, post covid lock down troubles. It hasnt been like this for me in the many other times I have been there and so I will continue to go back...unless this happens again.
I’ve always wanted to try this diner and I’m glad I finally got around to it. It was extremely busy and we still got seated in a short amount of time. The food is pretty good although it was a little bit pricier than I thought it would be. The service we received was also very good. I love the old diner feel that it has. Definitely recommend
I have been to this place a lot so I decided to try breakfast here. Was waited on by an older blonde woman that acted as if we was bothering her from the time we walked in and told us where we could sit. This lady is not like all the other friendly waitresses that I have encountered here. She took our order and when done dropped it back at the table . Never asked if we wanted refills for our drinks or anything. I had to ask for the check and when we asked for a water to go and a cup of ice again she acted like we was bothering her. This experience was not a desirable one.. will not return for breakfast because of this lady. Employees make a huge impact on ur business if they are not happy ur customers will not be happy as well
Live up the street from this spot. Great place for breakfast. Dont expect fancy but delicious southern food.
Stopped in for a $10 banana split. By time it got to the table 20 minutes after ordering, it was a goopy mess. It was made WRONG. Pineapple topping over everything. Google it if you dont know how.
Beautifully executed architectural details enjoyed in a 1950s atmosphere. Friendly wait staff, super clean with great prices. I loved it!
Great service and quality food. I always visit when for lunch or breakfast when in Cary.
Nice friendly staff. Old fashioned menu with decent food. Booth or counter seating. Not a lot of healthy or keto choices.
Excellent value, great milkshakes, would return for sure, loved the burger and fries
Local staple Ive been going to for my whole life. Gotta get the chips and add a pinch of salt. 🧂🤘🏼
Very cute, clean and friendly diner. Our food was delicious. We will be back !!!!!
Im from Jersey and I grew up going to diners. There arent any here so when I found this one, I continuously go here. For three years I always get the patty melt and onion rings, and Im never disappointed. The wait staff is real, and kind, and I will always recommend this diner with high praise.
Food was delicious. There is something on the menu for everyone! Service was excellent. This was our first visit but we will definitely go again.
This place is an awesome little diner! Always clean, the waitresses are always quick, tentative, glasses are always full. The cooks are pretty good! We have been here a few times and will definitely come here wherever we come this way! Biscuits n gravy are amazing! Omelettes are pretty good! Hashbrowns are my favorite! Pies are okay. Love that there is a juke box!
First time to dine, enjoyed our dinner, we plan to go back again!
Stopped here to take out and the environment and energy good. The food exceptional. Go visit I think you will be happy you did.
This place is super fun and food is great!
Great selection, good fresh food and service. Great atmosphere. I little chilly inside but maybe just personal preference. Well be back.
Very good ambiance and good people .. might have been a bad day for them. Other than onion rings and chips, rest of the food was below average.
Food and service was just awful. We never got a refill on our drinks, the fried chicken was incredibly dry and overdone, and the Mac and cheese was cold. We werent even given silverware. I went to the counter to ask for some and 3 different servers made eye contact with me several times and didnt even acknowledge me until I said Excuse me. This place used to be good and the vintage atmosphere is awesome, but dont come here with high expectations.
Im from Long Island, NY. The land of great food and all night diners! The Shiny Diner delivers great food! I had a cheeseburger and it was charcoal grilled. The best Ive had since moving here 6 years ago!
The wait was long as heck lol. But that was to be expected for a Sunday after meeting. Reminded me of midnight diner in charlotte. My food was excellent and rose our waitress was so adorable with her northern accent! She was the best! Will definitely be back when I’m in that area! Also love the oldies look and feel to the place. Not many places like this around any more!
Gypsy jewel to the rescue! This place is delish, great staff, will be back soon!
I got lunch here and everyone was super nice, and the food was quite good
Very attentive, friendly service. The toast was dry and brittle. Portions were good. Decent food.
Great atmosphere, the ribeye steak sandwich was delicious 😋, the chef nailed that sandwich. Emily is a great hostess.
Miss Lori is very helpful and a kind person. She makes you feel right at home! I will keep coming back!
Service was good but the chef must have changed. The grits had no salt at all and the homefries were undercooked. Omelet was ok but all three items with OJ for $20 is pretty expensive especially for no seasoning.
Had a great omelet. And the service was very attentive. I will be back.
I was told the mangers name was James, so let me start by stating that if I could give it a 0 star I would, which is quite disappointing given that I used to speak fondly of this place. Unfortunately at 7pm on December 22nd 2020 that changed, the only reason I waited so long to write this is because I did not feel like ruining my holiday weekend. My family and I came in at 7 pm, we were seated and got our drinks within 10 min which was wonderful, we placed our orders by 7:15pm . Our waitress was a woman named Angie who from the start was not very friendly but I overlooked that in the beginning because 2020 has been hard on all of us. What I did not appreciate was waiting an hour to get our food with zero communication within that hour from our waitress, on why it was taking so long. Might I add that we saw 3 other tables get their food before us, and 2 of the tables got there AFTER we did. Angie had walked by our table numerous times and had plenty of opportunities to inform us on why the food was taking so long, even if the order was placed late or maybe the cook messed up we would have been understanding if she would have communicated that to us. Finally around 8pm we asked Angie why it was taking so long she said it would be out soon and preceded to say sorry but it was obvious she didn’t care. So at 8:10 give or take a few minutes we FINALLY got our food. If that wasn’t bad enough she came by after we got our food and said verbatim, “Is the food okay are we all happy now that we got the food”. As if to imply that we were in the wrong for being frustrated. Overall it was a horrible experience and Angie is not someone I would want representing my restaurant, if I was the manger. I will add that she took off half the bill but to be frank, I feel it should have been free. So to the other customers just make sure you carve out a good 2 hours if you want food from The Shiny Diner .
Tasty food combined with authentic atmosphere - nice place to have a dinner. If you want to use jukebox- use the big one, not the one on the table :) If you would like to try a cocktail- those are really big :)
Good food and kind servers. Breakfast food was a little pricey however…$3.25 for a small glass of cheap juice was a little much.
Got a to-go order of their eggs benedict, which is supposed to be made with soft poached eggs....what I got was completely hard boiled eggs drowned in hollandaise. If one cant trust a diner to successfully cook eggs, I cant imagine going back for anything else. Quality control people. Most unsatisfying.
We ordered the pot roast and the hamburger steak plates. Meat was delicious and sides were good. The black eyed peas tasted like fresh peas from the garden. Chocolate creme pie is definitely a must! It was soooo delicious 🤤 Service was good as well.
Good breakfast food, fast and attentive service.
Food was Good! But service could have been better. Was served by this old lady and she seemed very cold and intimidating.
The food is always great! The staff is always friendly. My buddies and I go every Tuesday(after dropping our boys off at hockey practice). We give it 5 Stars
Great diner food. Huge menu. You know youre in the south when mac n cheese is listed as a veggie. Good service and good value. I really like little places like this. Its worth the wait.
AS SOON AS I WALK IN I GOT NO HELLO, welcome. Made me wait 5 minutes, then checked 3 different tables out before I had to interject for someone to take my order. Angie was very capable of taking my order as soon as I walked in, but refused to as she ignored my presence and acted as if I was not A paying customer. Lisa, and Angie were very rude and me being an African American male I felt disrespected and not treated fairly.
Food was all very good, waitress was pretty short with us, when you go, be sure to watch out for prices. A glass of orange juice/cranberry juice it’s 5.99 a glass.
It is a cute establishment. Workers wear masks. Went for breakfast. I did enjoy the sausage gravy but the biscuits were nothing to write joke about. The portion size of the omelet was big! Fed me three times (leftovers)
The best! I love this place just had a Blue Plate special, it was delicious! Super friendly staff!
The food and service were great! The Philly omelet was gone so fast I didnt even think to take a picture and the coffee was delicious :)
Greasy, disgusting food, cold restaurant, and nothing more than a tourist attraction, if that. If you want to spend $60 on a stomach ache, here is your place.
My husband and I always enjoy the food here. But our service was beyond horrible tonight. Felt like waitress was rushing us out from the start. I don’t know if she was just too young or if she was having a bad night, what I do know is that my husband and I do not want that kid’s service again.
Great diner, great food. Very friendly wait staff.
Who wouldve thunk it? Make a building that looks like an Aluminum TV dinner and invite people to visit to eat breakfast and general dinners. It works. Its not made out of TV dinner covers but does have an true Shiney diner appearance which lends it a bit of charm. Not going to eat on charm alone, the food is fairly good. They serve a large selection of breakfast through-out the day and a good assortment of traditional entrees such as meatloaf, pot roast etc. Of course theyve also got Burgers.Breakfast is good - hard to not get breakfast right. Entree items such as the poat roast are good generally however the meatloaf is a bit dry for my taste. Burgers are also good.Worth going every now and then.
We have been going to The Shiny Diner for a few years. Food is good and staff friendly, though there has been almost complete turnover recently. When asked why the HVAC is kept at 65, according to the staff, it is set by the owner and they cannot change it. The staff shuts off the HVAC to make it more comfortable for the customers. Not likely we will return unless something changes where we do not have to wear coats.Updated 06/17/21Have been back about 4 times since my post above in mid May. Staff is always great and food is as well. Unfortunately, the HVAC has not been repaired since and remains on 65 degrees. Suggest the owner find a more qualified HVAC firm to fix the problem.
My family of 4 ate there this evening and it was the worst diner experience ever. Our server was awesome but the quality of the food vs the price was absurd... let’s start with the biscuits and gravy, frozen biscuits and canned gravy gross..the bowl of applesauce for a baby was 2.50 ... a pb&j with chips was 5.00... needless to say we weren’t happy but didn’t complain we just ate what we could stomach paid then left
This place is a good place to eat lately its been lacking and slacking the cook doesnt understand your order and doesnt prepare the food the way you want or ask.The night shift cook to me is better he makes sure the food tastes really good so I will not stop going there to eat but I will go late in the evening 👍
Always a good stop. Good food. Friendly staff.
This place is like a warm hug from that sweet elderly grandmother that smells like warm chocolate chip cookies... and she always knows exactly what to say and how to say it to will turn that frown into a smile. Yummy food...especially the French toast. It evens compares to a sweet tinder kiss from that special someone.
