Joel at Carcanix is such a great guy! He’s the VW guru so that’s the only place I trust to take my sport wagon—which he loves and takes care of like his own. He’s really smart and thorough, and has quick service. He’s very accessible with both a shop phone and text numbers, and keeps in touch as he goes with the work. If something needs to be done, he will tell you. If something can wait, he will tell you—he’s not going to try and up-sell you or make you spend any more than absolutely have to at the moment. Since I’m local, Joel even dropped me off and picked me up at home which was beyond nice! Can’t say enough good things about this place. Honest, good work. I’ll be going back in the fall for my new tires. He even helps with those if you like, stays in your budget and helps you pick what will work best for your needs. Super stuff!

Joel the owner was wonderful to work with when I needed a pre purchase inspection (PPI) done on a car that I wanted to purchase hundreds of miles away that is supposed to be delivered to me so I wasnt going to be able to see it in person before purchasing. Needless to say I really appreciated his help and he was very accommodating as busy as he was so that I could get it in and out and not miss out on the sale. He was very thorough in going over the car and very detailed on the inspection report. I highly recommend anyone purchasing from out of state that they get a PPI done because there are some issues that are going on with the car that needed to be addressed and we wouldnt have known it if we didnt have it inspected first by a independant certified technician.

I have never felt compelled to write a Yelp review before but I cannot say enough good things about Joel and his team at Carcanix. Everybody needs to know what an awesome shop this is. I called about having a pre purchase inspection done on a used car in the area and was just completely blown away by the service I was provided at this shop, even from the very first phone call. I found the ad for the used car on Craigslist and Joel actually pulled up the ad while I was on the phone with him and was looking at it with me and making recommendations on what to look for and what to avoid when shopping for used cars. I brought a car to him that I thought was in pretty decent condition for a used car with a salvage title but they looked over the car with such a fine toothed comb and found many things that would have probably cost me a lot of money later on. Rob, the mechanic who conducted the PPI explained all the issues in a way that even the most car illiterate person would be able to understand. Joel is such a straight shooter and he and his team are truly committed to serving the best interest of anybody that walks through his doors. Cannot recommend enough. These guys are incredible!

Joel is knowledgeable and very good about explaining what repairs a car needs without jargon so that his customers can prioritize maintenance according to their needs. He performs my regular maintenance reliably and efficiently, and also helped me find a new (used) car and was extremely communicative throughout the entire process. Ive been shopping around for quotes for my aging 2010 Mazda 6 since March 2020, when I originally spoke to Joel, who runs Carcanix. He was definitely my first choice despite getting over thirty quotes, but I just didnt have the money for repairs at that time. Fast forward six months to this Tuesday. Im finally ready to pull the trigger and get my prized (for sentimental reasons) Mazda running once more. I needed A LOT of stuff done. Serpentine belt, spark plugs, synthetic oil change, new rotors, new brake pads, flushing brake and steering fluids, cabin and engine air filters (these are things I went in knowing I wanted, not services I was up sold on) and more. Joel got me in THE NEXT DAY, I thought I was going to be waiting weeks. From the moment I walked in, I was happy because masks are required, the lobby is chained off and I didnt have to worry about getting Covid on top of repairing my car. Joel went over my list of repairs with me in detail discussing everything I wanted, including going over repairs that may not even have to be done to try and save me some money. He worked with me on my strict budget, and was able to complete all of my repairs and more within said allotted budget. As an additional customer service cherry on top, he honored my quote from March, which was lower than a current quote would have been. Not only that, but I got my car in at 9:30 am and my car was ready to go by 5:30 pm despite my laundry list of repairs. Im ashamed to say I didnt get the names of the fantastic mechanics that I presume performed most of the actual labor, but they were extremely kind and impressive as well. As you can see from my other reviews, I havent made too many over the last decade, and none this thorough, but I feel that strongly about Carcanix. For as long as Im living in the greater Sacramento area, I will not take my business anywhere else.

I reached out to Joel to get a Pre Purchase Inspection (PPI) on a Mercedes SUV I was considering purchasing from a nearby dealer. I dont live in the area and wanted someone to represent my interests in looking at the car for me. Despite the car not being ready when he first came by to get it, he didnt just give up, but adjusted his schedule and workload for the day to accommodate having to inspect the car later in the day. Joel found several undisclosed issues on the vehicle and explained them all to me very well. I ultimately passed on buying the vehicle, because of how the dealer reacted to the issues found and the extent of undisclosed issues. I think Joels thorough inspection of the vehicle saved me from considerable hassle and money. If you are looking for a PPI, this is a great place to choose.

Carcanix has long been my car care and repair shop place of choice. I have been a loyal and satisfied customer for well over 10 years. The staff and service are second to none. Trust and confidence are apart of the service you receive from Carcanix. Costs are shared up front and completion of work is timely. Both of my vehicles are in their care regardless of my issues. Oil changes to major engine repairs are all possible and can be trusted to be done well. I have always been able to get my car back on the road as soon as is possible with no rework necessary. After used car shopping for a while, I found a vehicle I was very interested in. I called Carcanix and the owner answered, we talked about the different Pre-purchase inspections they do and set up a time later that afternoon for them to look at the car. They did a very thorough inspection and gave me a detailed written report on the condition of the car. They gave me the confidence to purchase the vehicle that I thought was a good car, but my knowledge about cars is pretty basic, so it felt really good to have an expert tell me I was about to buy a good vehicle. Notes from the report allowed me to negotiate with the seller, so even after spending money on the inspection, I saved more money on the car. Great experience, thanks!

Very helpful and knowledgeable. I called last minute to have brakes done and they accommodated me even though I was running late. Asked if I knew differences in pad options and filled me in with positive and negatives for each option. I sat in waiting room and was able to ask some other questions with non mechanic talk. When doing a bunch of call arounds, this mechanic wasnt the cheapest. However, he was the only one who broke down how much a repair would cost depending on the severity of the problem. He was open and honest with the repair, gave good communication throughout the length of the repair, and was just amazing all around. You get what you pay for; if you want a car fixed, and done right the first time, go here. If you want something cheap that will lead to more expensive repairs in the future, go to jiffy lube (then go here so he can fix their mistakes). By fixing one car, he got three new clients!

So I had the clutch on my car go out recently, definitely not a pleasant experience. I called around to several different places for quotes and it turned out it was going to cost a lot more than I originally thought. Joel (the owner) was the only one who took the time to explain to me that it would be significantly more if the flywheel was damaged and that he wouldnt know until everything was taken apart. Every other shop I talked to just quoted me a flat price (but of course after I had it in Im sure they would have called and told me Oh you need a new flywheel, thatll be an extra $400.) Joel was upfront and transparent from the get go, which is why I decided to take it to him. I definitely made the right decision. While the repair certainly wasnt cheap, the new clutch feels great and he helped me out with a really good rate on the labor. Just talking with him you can tell hes an honest guy and very knowledgeable about what he does. I will definitely be taking my car back here, whether its just for an oil change or another major repair.
