My husband and I love to discover new coffee places and roasters as we are coffee fanatics. This place is above. The baristas know how to make a good cappuccino and you can tell they roast the beans the proper way. Coffee is fruity and earthy and not burnt tasting. The place has this very chill cool ambiance about it. My only complaint is wish they had a larger size for cappuccino. When I am back in town I will surely visit. If you like good coffee pay them a visit.
The best latte I have ever had! I love their different roasts. I buy their Monte Bonito, Vibrant Espresso, and whatever new specialty roast they have for my morning pour over. Best beans in the area.
I LOVE THIS COFFEE SHOP!! My favorite drink is the Carmel Latte with Almond milk cold or hot. Its subtle, as in you still taste the coffee and are not overwhelmed with sugar or artificial flavors. The environment is dark and cool, with comfy couches to sit and relax, and also an outside patio with a view of redondo beach. By far my go to if Im going out for coffee 100%
Great vibe, great coffee, friendly staff. The merch has cool designs. Its a small place, but theres plenty of indoor and outdoor, pet-friendly seating. Very clean dining and restroom areas. And again, the coffee was fantastic
Well this is not your ordinary coffee house. Premium pour over coffee and a delightfully refreshing upscale experience. Now my wife has to go here every morning and it’s not a bad place to go. Love the style and how they only take credit cards and not cash and they only have one size for your coffee. Love it very well done very classy.
Only average coffee and only paper cups- is this a Mc Donald? Only hobos drink coffee out of a single use garbage container. Wake up! And at 10am not a single food item available. This is my worst cafe experience in years. Can only rate F for fail.
Fantastic pour over, the flavor notes came through really clear and it was a nice clean cup of coffee. The aesthetic and the presentation were both on point. The employees were nice as wellDont go here expecting some dark roasted coffee, as Ive seen in some of the reviews. This places takes care in sourcing their beans and then roasting with a profile that suits those beans; to dark roast them would cause them to lose their origin characteristics. They do offer a medium roast pour over and its a little cheaper than their other options. At $5.75 the pour over is a little pricey but it takes time to make a proper pour over and they did a fantastic job. It wasnt sour or bitter at all. They sell 12oz bags of their fresh roasted beans for between $16-$20 which isnt bad compared to other high quality fresh roasted beans.Overall fantastic experience. Would highly recommend and will definitely be back
Cozy spot near redondo beach. The beans are all sourced from Colombia and the coffee is amazing!
LOVED the atmosphere here. It’s everything I’d want in a coffee shop. Friendly knowledgeable staff. All the right brewing methods for the coffee connoisseur. Coffee was ok. I did a pour over of the yellow bourbon and couldn’t believe how light it was. It was almost tea like. Not sure if there wasn’t not enough grounds or the wrong temp water. But I was somewhat disappointed in it. I’d definitely go back next time and try again.
This is a comfy coffee shop with an awesome menu. Id highly suggest the Stockholm Fog for people who enjoy chai flavors. If youre ever at the beach and see this place, stop in for some great flavors. Parking is offered along the street so that can get tricky. Otherwise, the service is great and the menu is fun.
I visited this place after hearing a couple of praises from unrelated individuals. One of them described their latte as absolutely amazing.Upon entering the shop, I was greeted with an amazing aroma that was both new and familiar. It smelled like coffee but on another level, perhaps how parfume compares with cologne. They have gigantic dog food sized burlap bags of coffee beans along the side of the store. The menu is simple, like In-N-Out simple. I orderer a Hemp Milk Latte with Vanilla flavor added and was asked to wait outside while the beverage was prepared. So - now about the actual drink. WOW! HOLY S#!+ It was complex and smooth with a seeming lack of acidity and imparted the delicious flavor of coffee without the bitter aftertaste characteristic of coffee.I will definitely come again, but wouldnt do so daily as Im the kind of guy that did an ROI calculation on and invested in an espresso machine at home since I prefer to conserve dollars with self sufficiency. That being said - whatever they prepared and served me is something I dont know how to make at home. At $6+, its an indulgent and luxurious treat you can afford to reward yourself with at least periodically.Enjoy! ☕
This shop desperately needs to revisit their process. A lot of people waiting 15-20 minutes for drinks. An order for a single espresso regularly takes more than 20 minutes. If this can get sorted it would be a good shop. Just order ahead and expect to wait much longer.
Went for a long walk today and came across this place. I went for the Stockholm Fog. It’s delicious. Service was great and had a good atmosphere will definitely return again
Product is decent, but I am constantly reminded as to why this is my last resort for coffee.Every experience is the same: There are three people behind the counter and very few customers with orders in front of mine and somehow it still takes 10 minutes to make a simple latte.Maybe the coffee tastes better the longer you wait for it? 🤷🏻♀️
Wish we could sit inside! ( Darn covid). Cute and cozy, nice employees, and customers. Tasty coffee.
Great coffee, funky atmosphere. Love it.
Good coffee.. funny thing the name of the shop is what I call my Sons. Lol
Delicious coffee and beautifully designed tees! No more Starbucks for me!
Neat small coffee shop, roasting their own coffee in house so it smells amazing when you walk by. Chill staff. Theyre smart in having all their merchandise- Mugs, candles, coffee beans, shirts etc right as youre standing in line. If not for the pandemic, sitting on one of the comfy looking leather couches while enjoying my coffee would have been a perfect way to spend my visit. Maybe sometime soon!
Eye catching corner location! Im excited I found this place. Every detail is purposeful. The coffee is excellent, roasted in house. I hope to take a bag of beans home with me soon.I love that high end coffee can be had without pretention, and this place has none. The baristas whipping up drinks with a smile. I had a fun conversation with the lady who took my order. You can tell they love coffee here.I had an iced mocha and its a nice pronounced chocolate, not overly intense. Right on the money for a Sunday morning.Street parking only I think.
I come to this coffee shop multiple times per week. Ive gotten to know the owner Andreas and he always has great recommendations for drinks. Ive not been disappointed with a drink Ive gotten here.I typically get either a pour over of one of their specialty coffees or I get a breve ristretto latte.I also recommend any of their hot teas. This is the only store that I buy coffee by the pound from.If youre in the area give this place a try.
Good coffee and nice atmosphere.
To me this is the best cup of coffee. Hot latte with whole milk and a croissant. Their coffee is velvety and slightly sweet from the milk carmalizing. Must try
Yeah had high hopes but not a speciality coffee by any means. Cappuccino was very foamy with so many bubbles (milk wasn’t steamed right) and milk was cold, i am guessing extraction wasn’t top notch either. I have high-end espresso machine at home and can do 10 times better job at making a good cappuccino/latte, it’s not that hard. I’ll give them another try and if quality still remains below par, then unfortunately won’t return.
The coffee was delicious. I tried something new for me (Stockholm Fog). It was a great combination of chai and mocha. The almond croissant was amazing as well.
Great local shop cant wait till they open again so I can sit on those beautiful leather couches. I always get the dirty chai with oat milk yummy!
Super amazing coffee and vibe. Will go back.
Delicious coffee and pastries!
If this place would put as much effort into their coffee as their atmosphere then Id rate it higher... We had iced lattes and iced matcha and Klatch is better :)
Lattes are delicious.
The the best coffee!! I use their beans at home too. My favorite varietal is Castillo. Using La Candela right now, nice and smooth. El Camilo and Daniela are good ones too. Hope to see those back soon. Very glad I can buy online and have it shipped (thanks for the free shipping with 2 bags too!) as Im out of state and havent been in the LA area in a while. I was running dangerously low so cant wait to receive my 2 bags today!!
One of the best coffee shops in South Bay. Their beans are well curated and the baristas treat making coffee like an art. They are also really good at recommending drinks based on your taste preferences.
I was visiting from out of state and was referred to The Boy & The Bear — super well curated space with very kind, patient & knowledgeable staff. Diverse options, but distinguishably set apart from your average coffee experience. Did not disappoint! xx
I really REALLY wanted to like this place. I so wanted a local Coffee House that I could walk to on the weekends as a treat with my dog in tow. I waited for a really long time for them to open up.I was out walking the dog this morning and low and behold... theyre open! Yes! I take the dog home and go back (because theyre not animal friendly). I ordered a Caramel Latte, 2% it was lukewarm, not a very good flavor and lacking in that richness one comes to expect from an indulgent treat such as a latte. 😥They had 5 or 6 pastries that were not very appealing and I feel that their prices were too high for what you get. I happily paid the $5.50 for the Latte ($5 + Tax) and left a tip however, I will not be a repeat customer. Im sad now. 😣
They told me, (paraphrasing) oh, were just a specialty coffee roaster, our drinks arent our focus. And then I had a cappuccino and realized that was wrong.Seriously. Get a cappuccino. Get two. Also get some of their coffee... but drink their cappuccino while youre picking the coffee.
I went here on a Sunday, the place came highly recommended from a friend who visits regularly. Well, I dont know what happened, maybe they were short staffed? People were waiting as long as 30 min for coffee. One person who couldnt wait longer than the 20 min he already waited, asked for a refund and that pushed the wait longer because the person making the drinks, had to process the refund. There was one girl who was making all the drinks and maybe a new employee who only worked the register. I dont know. Im willing to give it another shot, but Ill wait a week or two. One last thing, when I Got my coffee after waiting about 30 min, it was hot when I ordered an iced coffee...I left with my hot coffee, on a hot day because I didnt want to stress the employee anymore than she was. The more you know.
The coffee was amazing. The aesthetic is really pretty. However, I was really disappointed with the cashier. He has terrible customer service. I didnt realize it but one of my cards was expired and so it didnt go through then I quickly grabbed one of my other cards and paid for it. He was really stuck up and snarky about this. I would probably not go back because of this.
The best cappuccino I have ever had. I quite literally recall this cappuccino every time I drink an inferior cappuccino elsewhere and think: Boy and the Bear has a better--THE BEST-- cappuccino. I have lived in central NJ and New Orleans, both locations proudly fueled by high octane caffeine, and nothing compares to what Boy and the Bear brings to the mug. I have bought their coffee beans and sent it out to friends in NJ and New Orleans-- great coffee is a great gift for a coffee lover. Also, the staff is friendly, helpful, and content-- seems to be a good place to work. Im hooked. SUPPORT THIS BUSINESS!
The coffee is delicious here Ill give them that. But thats the only thing this place has going for it. High prices and the service is mediocre at best. I still go there once in a while because the make a great latte... When they manage to get my order right.
Good coffee, nice atmosphere, but during covid you just wait forever because its the only good coffee place around.
Love this place ❤️ It seems very trendy but do they deliver!! The coffee is exceptionally smooth and they tea flavorful. We will be back!
They have the best cold brew! If you get the one from the barista the cold brew is a blend of several of their beans. if you really want the best, then get the bottled cold brew out of the fridge. It is NOT a blend. It is a special bean they import especially for their cold brew and absolutely amazing. Super smooth and very tasteful. I love their cold brew. Even better, if you get a growler, 32 oz, they will give you $11 refills for life. Definitely worth it.
Its fun.Eclectic.Outdoor seating great.Self serve not good.At the prices, wait staff would be best.
Good prices and I was treated with welcome arms, friendly staff. It had the freshest flavors of roasted bean coffee.
They take their time to make real coffee from beans freshly roasted on site. Beautifully designed interior as well. Just enjoy it.
Great atmosphere. Really liked the place. Unfortunately, I asked for a cup of black dark-roast coffee, and the girl at the counter acted as though I asked for a hamburger. Sorry we only have medium-roast. OK, Ill have that. Nope, not an enjoyable cup coffee at all. Bitter and bright, neither of us drank the whole cup. I dont know if they ever have dark coffee, or they were just out, but my impression was they dont do dark coffee. I could be wrong. Ill try it again, because it was such a cool place, but if they only have medium-roast, Im getting a shot in it.
My daughter and I went here with a close friend. We were fortunate enough to meet with the owners. They shared that they created this well designed coffee spot to invite people to slow down and enjoy coffee as opposed to drinking it on the run. Five stars! Love it. They know their coffee. Love the friendly neighborhood.
I went to visit during their soft opening last week. Great specialty coffee roaster. The owner has put a lot of effort into getting beans direct from the farms of Colombia. They had a few different varieties to try all cups made to order. Cant wait for the grand opening!
Great coffe and service
This place is one of the best coffee shops in the south bay, take it from a coffee connoisseur
We stopped in for coffee to go on the way to church. This place has a cool relaxed vibe. Definitely an old school coffee house feel where youbcould sit and chill for a couple of hours. More Friends than Starbucks. The coffee was smooth..not very strong but tasty. Service was a bit slow but it seemed like the barista might have been new. We will be back.
The sugar-and-whipped coffee crowd may be a little confused here. But the truly adventurous and curious will want to take a little time to learn the virtues. The beans are select and the roasting is superb. The brews, yes again. The community atmosphere is comfortable and inviting. The owner and crew have the chops, can drive a lively conversation on the Columbian coffees and the farmers they work with. I appreciate it and I can tell I’m going to learn a lot.I just hope the economics of a fresh new coffee business model, in an untested but welcoming neighborhood, allows them to continue to go way off the common path to keep up their absolute quality. My favorite drink here so far is a pour over with a light roast natural process Colombian. What’s yours?
This was an unexpected find, with awesome tasting coffee. You will love it- the place has character.
