I love Boon Boona :) their coffee is so good, as are their scones and their egg sandwiches. We finished our lattes and forgot to take a photo of them but we did take pictures of the sandwich π and the take home coffee. We canβt come back soon enough-they make fantastic coffee and have a range of blends, they feature local artistβs works, they have incredible swag and check out their gorgeous flavor wheel. Whatβs not to love? Even their packaging is exquisite to the last detail. Absolutely a fan and I canβt wait to go back! They are still enforcing masking and distancing at this time as well. Thanks Boon Boona!*I added some photos on September 17th, including a latte picture this time :) Boon Boona is awesome and their staff are lovely!
Spacious and modern coffee shop in downtown Renton. My latte was excellently made and delicious. Love the idea that they support local community and artistsOn the other hand, my experience wasnt perfect. I was overcharged before I corrected the barista, then when they prepared my breakfast sandwich, they accidentally dropped it on the back counter but simply picked it up and put it in the oven like nothing happened. In my opinion not the most professional way to deal with it.
Coffee here is great! We tried the lavender latte and rose cardamom latte. They both taste good, lavender one was most fragrant. We also got the tree hugger breakfast sandwich and a turkey sandwich. The tree hugger was VERY bland and tastes like something you can throw together at home, could use a few speckles of pepper or something. the turkey sandwich was really good though. The prices are a bit high with the sandwich $10.50, breakfast sandwich $6 . The 12oz coffees were $6.25 each. Pretty costly for decent sandwiches and coffee, but a cute local small business supporting African based coffee. We liked it π.
I was very excited to visit this place, I must say the design and space is beautiful! The coffee was good, but my lower rating is for the service. I understand there is a labor shortage, but the baristas need better training on welcoming customers and taking orders. I also tipped the automatic 18% that came up on screen. Iβve seen other reviews about the service, I think if they fix this theyβll do even better. I wont be back until then.
I visited on a Saturday afternoon and I was struck how great the place looked. I wasnt able to go very far inside as they were still taking orders from the door, but when things are safer I would be excited to spend some time taking in the decor and design of the coffee shop. I ended up trying the a golden yellow turmeric drink and it was delicious. I also got a day-old orange cardamom sticky bun that was very tasty too. I hope to come back soon!
Boon Boona Coffee is my favorite coffee shop! They have excellent service, a beautiful space and delicious coffee. I love their cortados and I love taking home their beans. Itβs worth it to make a trip out of your way to come visit Boon Boona.
I cannot wait to go back when they have dining in and the construction is done. Their caramel macciato was superb. Their sandwiches are also super good!
Delicious coffee roasted on site. Friendly service. Great atmosphere. Very safe COVID practices (important at time of writing in September 2021). Delicious granola, pastries, and sandwiches. They dont have a large menu, but everything they do have is A+.If youre looking for a local coffee shop to be your new favorite spot, this is a great option!
Got a coffee and a croissant and gave them a 15% tip only to realize that my croissant wasnβt warmed up before handing out and they would not take it back to warm it up because it has been βhanded outβ. I had not touched the croissant yet, it was still in the bag as is.
Loved my Jasmine Rose iced tea. Unsweetened, loads of jasmine floral flavor. Perfect on a hot day. Beautiful artwork throughout the inside of the cafe, will be nice to be able to sit indoors again one day
I came here for a cultural coffee ceremony and I totally enjoyed it. Although I am not a big coffee drinker, I loved the presentation and networking opportunity. My wife got coffee at the end and she liked it.Sign up for this cultural experience and find out more about Ethiopian coffee and the origin of African coffee.Parking was easy to find. We parked a couple of blocks away from the venue.
Short, but sweet experience here. Very unique, and necessary, offering. They provide a coffee experience, as well as great customer service. Cant wait to see their growth, and where they decide to go with it. Highly recommended.
Absolutely amazing coffee. A new local business on 3rd in Renton. They have excellent coffee and pastries, and will be starting up their own roaster soon. The place has beautiful artwork and is a real treat for a bite and coffee. I ordered a Flat White, and it was as good as I have had in Europe. Just fantastic. This will be one of our new local haunts.
This coffee house is awesome. The soy latte was perfect! Love the atmosphere and decor....with local artists being featured, art available for purchase.
Celebrated my PhD this afternoon in this great cafe. happy to tell that it was a incredible and the place was clearly one of the reasons for that strong celebration. The stuff participated in a lovely way, the coffee was something else and my buddies were so overjoyed. We shall definitely return for more joyful afternoon. Thank you very much
This is a business which has a top priority of practicing discrimination. Those with valid medical conditions preventing them from wearing a mask are denied service here. They also are not offered alternative accommodations. Boona Boona is only interested in taking care of those able to wear a mask - those who cant are unwelcome. How sad this business is choosing to practice medicalΒ segregation. I wont return or recommend this discriminatory business to anyone.7/13/21 edit to add: The owners response confirms the discrimination and attemptsΒ to justify it in the name of safety. Second class citizens do exist here, folks. I was excluded from this business and treated like a diseased leper in front of at least 15 customers because of a noncontagious medical condition preventing mask wearing. So cruel and a possible Civil Rights Act violation for failing to provide reasonable accommodations. The question for you, dear customer, is will you tolerate discrimination? My money will be going to the coffee shop a block away which welcomes EVERYONE. Shame on you, Boona Boona. Despicable behavior.
Flexible, thoughtful service staff. Delicious lattes. Cant wait to be able to sit at a table and visit with a friend. Enjoyable artwork to view and / or buy. Masks enforced. No indoor seating yet.
Love their small batch coffee beans- only wish they sold 1lb bags instead of 12 ounce-
Awesome coffee! Even during the pandemic, Boon Boona provides an excellent cup of coffee!
Definitely go here is you love coffee. The pecan toffee cookies are addicting!
Beautiful, cozy, open space with great vibes and friendly service. I loved the artwork on the walls and the sort of industrial meets nature vibe I got. I ordered a London fog (which is an early grey tea with steamed milk, lavender, and vanilla flavoring) it was super good not too sweet and the right amount of milk. I also got a chocolate croissant it was very fresh and tender and flakey and the chocolate inside was quality semisweet. The dirty chai I ordered for my boyfriend tasted a bit different from what were used to (he likes that liquid pumpkin pie coffee) but I think the difference is the beans themselves. He had some banana bread to go with the coffee and it was very good moist and had some yummy spices on the outside. All in all very good quick service just up to you whether you like the beans they use.
Enjoyed a smooth tasting iced latte and warm, tree hugger sandwich. Great space with interesting artwork on display.
Just ordered beans online. They came quickly. Were better than any of the usual suspects (heart, counter culture, blue bottle, intelligentsia, etc) and allowed the added bonus of some green beans to practice the roasting process at home again. Im guessing these are as fresh as the roasted coffee (sometimes a problem with consumer oriented green bean suppliers)
I got the cold brew regular coffee. It tasted vulgar. Mostly sour like vinegar. Pretty sure the coffee was somehow spoiled. Two other people tried tasting the coffee and they agreed it would be too risky to drink. A waste of 6 dollars and left me feeling queasy.
Boon Boona has THE most amazing beans and coffee. I love lightly roasted beans and BB are second to none in aroma, flavor, and all around deliciousness. Whole bean coffee at home was essential to get me through Covid lockdowns!
One of the best lattes I have had. Super vibe, lots of art, but mostly amazing coffee.
I donβt know how anyone could rate this less than 5 stars. Stands up with the top cafes around the world. Definitely get coffee here, donβt even hesitate.
Always pleasant and friendly environment with tasty eclectic coffees. The basic coffees are a great taste if you just want a simple roast.
Coffee isnβt unique. The service is meh. Atmosphere is awful. I had the orange blossom latte. It was fine. Tasted like a honey latte you would get anywhere around here. I didnβt dislike it, just wasnβt wowed. When they take your order they donβt ask for a name so when they called out my latte, a guy two spots BEHIND me in line took my drink. He ordered oat milk with his so he was probably upset when he didnβt get it. His fault for stealing my drink, I suppose. My biggest complaint is with the atmosphere. When you walk in they have all the tables and chairs stacked off to the side and have roped off a section from the door to the counter for the line. The sign on the door asks you to keep your mask on at all times. There is plexiglass almost to the ceiling. Ummm, we are about to go into Phase 4 and to walk in here you would think we were still in Phase 1. I got vaccinated in February because itβs my duty to protect myself and others from COVID. I am all for wearing masks and taking precautions but this coffee shop was terribly uninviting. They seemed to not even want you to sip your coffee before you leave the building. It was also incredibly hot inside. The service was so slow so I was in a full sweat before walking outside to cool off in the 79 degree weather. Given that there was absolutely nothing special about it, I will not be back.
So glad to have had an excuse to finally check this place out. Came for a Mikes Shave Ice pop up this morning. Came about an hour and half early to check out Boon Boona and grab a latte. Love all the alternative milk options. Hemp isnt carried by enough places and its my go to but I went with an oat milk latte to see how the latte art is. Not everyone can do great art with hemp so if Im visiting a place for the first time Ill go with oat if they have it. Love all the natural lighting from the large windows up front. Great open space with lots of options for seating including exterior tables. So glad to see a great shop like this in Renton. You can tell its a neighborhood favorite. Lots of regulars seem to be wandering in and out. Look forward to visiting again when Im in the area.
Great coffee shop and breakfast sandwiches
Excellent coffee, very cautious about COVID-19
Love supporting a local black owned businesses. Amazing coffee and fresh toasted beans!!
Great coffee with nice batistas. Highly recommend. Support a local business!
Delicious coffee and pastries! I miss being able to sit inside and enjoy the atmosphere here. Love all the tables/couches for laptop working and reading!
Good social distancing! Delicious espresso drinks and breakfast sammies that hit the spot! Also there was a lot of good art for sale here! And it looks like it would be a really cool place to hang out after covid.
Super nice baristas, patient- I was a new customer. I also like the local art being sold inside.
Good coffee. It would be good to have different roast levels other than light
A neat place with a good vibe (even with COVID protocols) in Downtown Renton that specializes in African coffees, a unique focus that differs from other roasters here in the Seattle area. Take a look at their website for the story behind the beans. Great customer service with good bean insights so give em a shot (pun intended) and, be prepared for the Citys road work project thats ongoing.
This fun New edition helps make downtown Renton the destination for the first time in a long time. From the open floor plan to the varied seating to the friendly staff, this place seems likely to become a fixture! Their coffee is good, if a bit pricey, but I cant wait to check out their coffee ceremony and of course, their collection of board games. Definitely a place to spend some time!
Very nice and cozy shop. Plenty of parking slots on the streets.I ordered an ice triple expresso. The drink came out late in the order. The worst part is the taste of the drink. The coffee is sour??! Way different than I would expected as a regular ice expresso.Oh, it costs way more expensive than Starbucks. One staff goes around the shop and ask for the service. I raised my concern, she was happy to remake another drink for me but in hot drink instead. This time the coffee is better but the sour taste is there. Its the coffee taste... LolzOverall, nice place to hang out but just little extra care when ordering your drink...John
I would give MORE stars if it were possible! The flavors of this place are divine! Amazing rich espresso and house made syrups are delicious! Dont miss the lavender lemon coffee cake either. Sweet staff that are willing to chat and be helpful and plenty of seating, I could go on, but you should already be on your way! Yum! Enjoy!
Great place for coffee and snacks!
By far my favorite cafe in the state. The service is impeccable. The East African diaspora homage that this establishment hosts is unlike any other business Iβve ever experienced. The quality of the coffee is almost like the cherry on top. Which usually isnβt the case for most other places. The owner is so respectful! I can easily imagine how much effort him and the staff has put towards creating the ambiance of Boon Boona. From a consumer standpoint, I wish I could put 6 out of 5 stars. Great job everyone!
This is the best coffee shop in the greater Seattle area. And thats saying something as we have lots of good coffee. The coffee is wonderful and the baristas are excellent. Atmosphere is great. They roast all their coffee in house (literally the roaster is out in the cafe space so you can watch them). They even make their own flavor syrups in house, like lavender, vanilla and rose cardamom. I also highly recommend trying the Ethiopian Coffee Ceremony. There are often fun community events and pop ups going on, plus board games available to play (and a game night).
Boon Boona is my favorite local coffee shop. The employees are always friendly and the quality of their products is top-notch. The pour overs might take a little longer to get than a normal coffee but theyβre so worth the wait if youβre somebody that enjoys black coffee. Pastries and Sandwiches are always good. The open layout is great to bring family or friends to come and have coffee with you. They also allow dogs inside which is a great plus! I always enjoy looking at the art on the walls and learning more about where the coffees come from. I recommend Boon Boona to anybody that really enjoys coffee.
Wow! Renton does coffee right. Im jealous and sad for Oregon because we are all missing out on this great coffee and the experience. I ordered a macchiato and it was presented beautifully but most importantly it was perfection. It came with some carbonated water to cleanse the pallet after each drink (which is how it should be done).Great location and ambiance.
Sandwiches were really great
Customer service was so extremely rude. There are much kinder places not far from there.
Superb coffee, beautiful space and great service. They also have covid safety procedures managed so it feels safe.
Amazing coffee! Loved being able to support this wonderful black-owned establishment. Thank you for contributing to the community and excited to see you grow even more!
Good coffee, poor service.
Incredibly comfortable sitting environment. Best coffee Ive had in the greater Seattle area, and the pastries (Cookies are a must try) are so good! Staff is always in a good mood, and I see the owner even sitting with customers sometimes to check-in.Love this place, and its so nice to know how ethical the coffee is sourced, compared to some of the big business/franchises.
Very friendly staff. Coffee is consistently delicious. Only down fall is that the wait is a bit longer than you would expect. With that being said, its worth it.
So consistent and delicious! My go-to is a simple 12 ounce drip coffee, and its always excellent. They are also being very safe and conscious about corona germs--all baristas are wearing face masks, changing gloves between orders, and using tongs to pass out straws/lids.ALSO, their in house chocolate chip cookie is the best coffee shop cookie Ive had in SeattleβYUM!
Excellent covid protocols in place, thank you for taking our health seriously while still providing great service and delicious coffee!
This place is absolutely amazing. Good food, some plant based and gluten free options. If you are looking for coffee or matcha you will not find better in this area.
Great coffee, friendly staff and love the atmosphere!
I love this place. The coffee is good, the food is good, the staff is friendly, and there is a constantly changing selection of artwork on display.
Awesome spot w well sourced beans and friendly staff
The best. Try there coffee subscription for there great beans sent to your door.
