While I enjoyed some of my classes and professors at UT Dallas and made a few life-long friends during my time as a student, I was highly disappointed by several aspects of the University.First, I came to UTD as a transfer student. I knew nothing in regards to the campus or the way in which I was supposed to go about being registered. I spent numerous hours trying to get answers from advisors and administration to no avail. If I went to one advisor, they told me I was in the wrong place and that I really needed to go elsewhere. It was exhausting and frustrating.Second, once I was accepted to UT Dallas, I had to send in vaccination records. I called to ask how theyd like them to be sent and they told me via USPS. A week went by and I hadnt heard back nor had my enrollment status been updated; I let this go because I just assumed that they were busy with all the incoming students and had an overload of paperwork. Two weeks went by, so I called them again. They claimed to have never gotten the paperwork and told me that the best way to get my paperwork to them was by faxing it over. By the time they sorted this out, I was not able to attend transfer student orientation. I felt completely lost and like I was drowning...and it wasnt even the first day of classes.Third, because of the fiasco above, I was unable to register for classes until the Friday before classes started. I was panicking and left with a slim number of options for classes. I was less than thrilled about this, but I had to do what I had to do. My advisor seemed to be knowledgeable; however, I would soon find out that she messed up my classes and I would waste an entire semester in a class that I had already taken the equivalent to through DCCCD. This incident never received an apology, and I should have gotten the money back for that class. This little mishap went on to complicate things even further when I had to take an overload of classes my last semester on campus before completing student teaching during my final semester before graduation.Fourth, do not go to administration for any comments or complaints you have. You will be humiliated and degraded by those in charge. I have never received such a hateful email from someone who is supposed to represent the university as a safe institution for learning and growth, and a university that has taken pride in the fact that they supposedly listen to their students to illicit change. My words were thrown back at me with pure hatred intertwined in the message. Believe me, I got the message loud and clear: dont question my authority, Ill have you obliterated. Id hate to know what untrue and spiteful remarks this individual has made about me to his colleagues and staff.Lastly, I would like to mention some other unpleasant occurrences during my years at UTD:1. Parking is outrageously expensive and it is incredibly difficult to find parking despite having built new garages recently. The parking lots are also in desperate need of repair. If it rains, be prepared to walk through what seems like a lake--literally, I have had to trudge through water mid-calf before. Also, be prepared to ruin any decent pairs of shoes you own because of the water and the mud and the otherwise uneven lots and sidewalks.2. There is not sufficient lighting in the walkways/sidewalks and parking lots for students who attend classes until 9:45 at night. Sure, they have some students on patrol, but these students do nothing more than stand with a little orange light talking to one another. If I were seriously in danger, theyd have no idea. Be sure to have pepper spray and take some self-defense classes. I never felt adequately safe when walking to my car at night.3. This schools focus is business and STEM. If you are in education or literary studies, you have the worst buildings, classrooms, and resources available to you. Classes had to be cancelled on more than one occasion because an animal crawled under the portable buildings, got stuck, and died.

Great University in a great location. If you are thinking about applying here, go do it. Its a relatively young school, so the facilities are still very clean and at night, the campus almost looks like a block off of a futuristic city. There are lots of events happening on campus, and lots of networking opportunities. Just warning you, this is not a school where you can expect to get laid and party every night and pass. If you plan to go into a serious major such as engineering, science, or business, you will have to focus.

Absolute terrible staff. Attended this school for 1 day. Went to the office and dropped the ONE class i had the FIRST day for financial reasons. I get a bill 6 months later for $800+. Apparently the one class was $4000+ and i was responsible for a percentage of it because according to their records i waited over 3 weeks to drop? This place is a scam and if you need anything done like this be sure to keep your paperwork and names of people you talk to. They will try to get all the money they can out of you in whatever way possible.

Good state university with generous scholarships, and is quickly improving. Great especially for engineering and business majors, as those schools are probably the strongest. Opportunities are abound, as not many traditions are established, and students are able to make a real impact on the campus if they want to. The construction never seems to stop though as the campus grows, and this place is not the place if you are looking for a party school.

Had a great time touring, but the campus seemed a little empty. The buildings were new and clean, and it was interesting to see how the school would be expanding in the near future. The best school for someone working full time and has the desire to earn a degree part time in the DFW area. While the school is not highly reputable, it is steadily improving in its ranks year over year. Contrary to some of the comments here, employers actually do consider you with this school on your resume. Reputation and the value of the career services that the school offers to its students are two things that if fixed would make UT Dallas a school that is well recognized by its peers (for academic purposes) and by top employers (for business purposes). However, I must say that this may need years before it happens and the leadership teams at UT Dallas have a lot to do before this becomes reality.

This university boasts an exciting, challenging, and enthusiastic atmosphere that sets the bar a little higher for all places of academia in the immediate Dallas-Ft. Worth metroplex. You know that great things are happening here when you can see your friends run electrical engineering labs that renovate the basic properties of recharging a fuel cell, code lines of C++ to design a program for the movement of a rudimentary robotic arm, or attend national conferences for business competitions and win. The list of bonuses at UT-Dallas are nearly endless. The problem with parking? Its being resolved with a new parking garage directly on campus to make getting to class for commuters easier and convenient.Dishonest administration? Not at all. Every department is very transparent and you can easily speak with any dean or chairperson with the simple call and scheduling of an appointment. Having done this myself to resolve a minor issue, there are hundreds of faculty and staff that want nothing more than to make your academic career just a little bit easier.Ridiculously hard curriculum? You have to work hard, but for anything that its good in life that is standard. Be able to study as hard as you would to any college you go to. Changing your mind and major here is not difficult if you find yourself in a plan that doesnt quite fit your skill set.As you can see by the kudos and boasting, Im thrilled with my choice of secondary education. You will be too if you decide to enroll and attend UT-Dallas. Whoosh!

I see a lot of reviews saying this school has a beautiful campus and amazing reputation, which it does. Also, the professors are amazing and the students are very bright. However, the administration and politics within this university is abysmal.Little to no information was given regarding registration for after being accepted into the university for graduate students. When I called and emailed the school, I was transferred numerous times to numerous departments because nobody knew how to answer my question or who could answer it. There seems to be little to no communication between departments.Parking doesn’t exist between 10am-3pm. With how much the cost of Parking, housing, and tuition has increased over the years, I expected improvements in the facilities and organization within this university. I have seen little to no change.Student life is also quite mundane. The university clearly does not strive to encourage an active and engaged student body. The university’s events such as weeks of welcome and guest speakers pale in comparison to every other university in Texas. This includes universities such as UT San Antonio and Texas State, which are significantly cheaper and smaller. Considering UTD’s notoriety for having the 4th most unhappy student body among universities in the country, I’m surprised the administration can turn a blind eye to student engagement.I feel like I’m just a dollar sign to this university after 4 years as an undergrad and 1 year as a masters student. I would not encourage anyone to come here.

I tried to be very hopeful about having a good experience at this university—but mine was anything but great over the course of 4 years as an undergrad. The administration I’ve worked with and have come across have not been open-minded nor trusting of students and are very much so biased in their outlook. This attitude was also present in the Panhellenic council organizations I’ve had to work with. Overall, they’d made it very difficult for a student to openly express concerns and to know that they’ll be heard, and their voices and opinions valued. Please do not go here if you value your wellbeing, and do value any and all other aspects of your life outside of academics. The university will truly not care..and yes, My experience was bad enough to transfer out even if I were only 4-6 credits away from graduation. My life matters more than my success in attempting to convince close-minded academic personnel and university department admin. about the validity of my struggles despite having already provided evidence and proof of documentation, as stated and required by the law of the United States.

That was after spending two years at another local college making As and Bs. No amount of time or effort I put into my classes seemed to make any difference in my ability to pass (and I mean PASS, forget about getting As). Unless you are an over achieving wunderkind honors kid (because they were the only ones I saw not struggling), I would think twice about going here for your BA degree. There is a reason why this college currently only has a 45% graduation rate (per their own website as I write this). They do offer good services, every employee I ever encountered was pleasant, I never had to wait more than a few minutes to meet with anyone, and the professors are on top of their game. Compared to UNT, UTA and any other public 4 year universities near Dallas: its the best. The school is on its way to becoming a tier one college. Its known for its Business school and Arts/Technology.I would say the school has an identity crisis. With 23,000 students and growing it needs a football team, school spirit and a more traditional setting. Its large enough to sever ties with the UT school system and become a standalone school. The diversity is intense! Parking is getting better and they are improving the buildings with state of the art technology. Not your traditional 4 year experience but they could develop into a school like some well known counterparts such as (Baylor, UT, Tech, A&M, TCU, SMU etc.) but only if they continue to make changes and develop school spirit & loyalty.Classes are pretty tough and the business program is very difficult but considered one of the best. Greek life is really just boring: send your kids here if you dont want them to party. Overall like I said its the basic college experience, great education but without traditions & school spirit.

The green lot fills up so fast you cant find anywhere to park, not even the last row! I have to leave 30-40 minutes early even though I live by the school! They also charge for parking for not only students but visitors as well, which to me is in poor taste. I dont agree with schools charging for parking anyway, but they can never get enough money can they? The lack of online classes really makes my life difficult. My previous university had them and it was such a blessing. Now at UTD my work schedule has been severely limited because I have to go to a class when I could be taking it online. If I had all the time in the world id most definitely prefer a regular class, but thats just not how my life works right now.Another problem with classes is how few sections there are. Some classes only have one time for that semester and if it doesnt work for some reason youre screwed. Or, youre forced to take a professor you dont want which could impact your grade.Overall UTD is a good school. The campus is beautiful, the coursework is challenging, and there are some pretty great professors here. True its not much of a party school but my last uni was so I prefer UTDs quiet atmoshpere.

I had a horrible experience with Xianming Dai (faculty). He completely ignores facts and tries to put you down.He also has a very thick foreign accent which is very hard to understand, if youre going to work here and interact with people maybe work on the English a bit.I can ignore the accent but he also has this sense of superiority and adds right to the end of everything he says, even when hes clearly wrong.I cant believe that UTD employs this person in a teaching environment.Maybe hes that way because of his culture, but here in America we treat others with respect and are open to points of view that arent our own.I dont recommend this college as long as they employ close minded people like him.If you go here you will have a bad experience!

The administration here is corrupt and the whole school reeks of incompetence. Teachers dont have the ability or drive to teach while students are mostly full of themselves.

Honestly if you had to pay for college dont chose UTD. If you get a full ride then it is bearable knowing that you dont have to pay for this lowtier school. A couple of things stand out if you are planning on making a decision.1. UTD gives out scholarships to a bunch of foreign students. In fact I think UTD has the most foreign students when compared to other public texas schools. Foreign students arent really a problem when integrated with the university but UTD makes a big deal about diversity and how diverse they are when in reality it is the opposite. All the foreign student tend to congregate into their own cultures and societies. Indians hang out with Indians, Chinese with Chinese, etc. etc. In fact this is so prevalent that the clubs garnered for these ethnicity are swollen in size with around 500 in each whether it is the Vietnamese Student Association or the Chinese or etc. You could try to join one of these programs but you will be treated as an outsider, in fact good luck feeling welcome with any ethnicity if you are white. All the activities, all the clubs, all the school sponsored spirit has some form of ethnicity attached to it and with around more than 50% of the school being from Asia they tend to congregate and leave anyone else out. If youre from the Asian continent youre in luck, youll fit right in. Except if youre a non-muslim arab. Good luck trying to join the MSA or fitting in then.2. Regardless of social life, sexual life is even worse. Good luck finding someone attractive, the girls that were mildly attractive before UTD get inflated in attractiveness due to the rarity of beauty on this campus.3. Its expensive for nothing. UTD knows its so lowtier in the system that it tries everything to get up to the UT system of quality. Harder classes, more expensive tuition, more expensive everything with lesser quality. The only reason you should go to this school is if you cant afford good colleges and UTD will pay your tuition for you. Honestly youre better off with a community college degree because they equal to the quality UTD brings to the table.

I attend UTD as of right now, and let me tell you something about the university police they are unprofessional, i asked to see the radar he tagged me with and was responder with the fact that he had loaded weapons in the car, why did he get out of the car by himself at 2 am? He mentioned that he would rather go to court since he gets paid overtime to go. I asked him how i was to know that he clocked me at 28 on the road that was 15 or if he clocked me while i was on a road thats 40mph and he said because im a cop. Tell me that is professional? I drive an 06 yellow corvette and have not gotten a ticket in 3 years, upon attending utd i have gotten a speeding ticket and multiple parking citations... screw this school. I also dread going to class, some of the professors know what they are talking about and others are just... blank
