Southside Moving and Storage moved me from Maryland to Virginia. Tony, Steven and Timothy were awesome. They were punctual, professional and accommodating. I downsized from a 4200 sq ft home to a 2100 sq ft; It was challenging trying to get everything in and situated due to seizing and the 31st of the month. But they got it done effortlessly. I would use this company again.

I would not recommend Southside Moving and Storage. Customer service has been virtually non-existent in my case. My move was underquoted, understaffed and several pieces of furniture were broken and/or damaged. Concerns were addressed prior to the move with the Richmond sales rep, Brenda as well as on the day of the move. To no avail. The movers-as well as another employee of the company-confirmed I had a two truck, 4 man move. What I got was one truck and three men, unfortunately, one of the men was ill and not much assistance with the move. After the move, I filed my claim, received the expected denial as I’d not purchased additional insurance. I had to call for the disposition of my claim. I then wrote a letter to the sales manager: Joe El-Attar. The letter is below. To date, I have received no response from Mr. El-Attar. I have initiated several phone calls to him and only twice has he contacted me-and both times I was not available to take the call.August 9, 2017Dear Mr. El-Attar,Attached you will find my original claim for damage sustained by my personal belongings dueto the negligence of your contracted crew and the mismanagement of my move in general. Ihad hoped that a reasonable response would be received from your claim department, but aswith the majority of my interactions with your company, your policies and rules and definitionswere simply repeated back to me and no alternative solutions, apologies or empathy were offered.Prior to my move I brought cube sheet concerns to the attention of your sales rep and dispatcher-the number of boxes was listed as 10—I had at least 100. I was still underquoted andunderstaffed. On moving day, my concerns were addressed by your sales rep advising me to“take a deep breath”. The day of my 3 man move, one of the men was ill and essentially unableto help for the majority of the day. At 6 pm with my damaged furniture, and quite a bit remainingto be moved, I told the men I’d finish on my own.I am asking your company to be accountable for the consequences of improper handling ofmy property. I am a customer looking for a solution to a damage incurred by contracting withyour company. I simply want my items repaired and I feel it should be at Southside Moving andStorage’s expense. The antique hutch was broken even before we left my previous residence-yourcrew member told me and admitted it was his fault. My expectation was that my belongingswould be handled in a professional manner, following general moving protocol and procedures. It was not unreasonable for me to expect that my antique hutch would be wrapped andsecured before the truck moved. It was not unreasonable for me to expect the same treatmentfor my dining room table-blankets secured on the table would have prevented the scrapes allthe way around the table. The same holds true for my sofa—light colored or not, proper wrappingand securing would have prevented the damage. This expectation also applies to the antiquesewing chest with the leg snapped off. IF your customers cannot expect for their belongingsto be handled in a professional manner, that should be made clear before signing any contractor offering insurance coverage.I request that you review my claim and the circumstances concerning the damage and offer aviable solution to the problem, which in my opinion, is repair of my damaged items, Thank youfor your time and l look forward to hearing from you soon.9/22/17. Still no response.

Calvin and Steve R. were incredible! They showed on time! Worked extremely quickly and were willing to move a couple of things repeatedly so we could be sure it fit the way we wanted in our space. We thought we had straight access to our home but it turned out to be 25 steps to entry way as the back access was too narrow foe the truck. Notwithstanding, Calvin and Steve R. persevered without complaint! They were kind to our 3 incredibly annoying dogs and made the relocation a positive experience. I can’t say enough nice things about Southside Moving who accommodated my quick and tight preferred moving schedule and Calvin and Steve R. who were kind, efficient and accommodating. Thanks again and if I ever have to move again, I’ll definitely use you all! Lisa W. Williamsburg, VA to Winston Salem NC

I orginally gave a wonderful review (5stars)... Dont get me wrong the services were great, but the financial side of things arent too great.I was given an estimate for $537 for my one bedroom move to my new place (1hr away). Long story short it came to a total of over $700The workers are AWESOME, but it shouldnt have cost me so much for just the items I had...Ive used the service before but I def. will not return 😞

Proceed with caution with this moving company. They take no personal responsibility for your prized possessions. Many of our items were scratched and one antique piece was even missing a leg (irreplaceable)! I would not have them move my dog house! Dave Vanderburg

I wish I would have read the reviews before I selected this poor excuse for a moving company. The movers tried to back up my driveway, scratching and gouging the concrete. I told him he wouldnt be able to get his truck up the steep hill. However he insisted on trying. They took the handles off my refrigerator doors never put them back on. They attempted to take the doors off the refrigerator cracking the fitting which cant be fixed. So the doors now wont close, rendering the refrigerator inoperable. When they removed the fridge through the back door they broke the door hinges and the base where the back door closes. I filed a complaint for all of these items within the proper time frame and BLUF, they said they are not responsible and they are sorry they couldnt resolve to my satisfaction. They are certainly the worst Ive ever dealt with and I would not recommend anyone spend their money with this poor representation of a moving company. My experience with them was beyond unsatisfactory!

Great move - exactly fit in tight window and schedule. Very professional, efficient and friendly moving crew of 3 guys. They moved a piano and furniture for our Mom who had passed away after we contracted for the move and they were able to adjust to our new circumstances and be effective and sensitive to our needs. The move was completed without problems and with care and consideration for us and our Moms belongings. They were terrific with the piano and knew exactly how to handle it.Becky R.

NEGATIVE 5 STARSCaveat emptor: Let the buyer beware! The nightmare began on January 16th, 2020 when Mid-Atlantic Moving and Storage showed up at our front door to move our belongings just one mile down the road. We didn’t know there was a problem at first. The three men who showed up were very polite, maybe a little too polite. That should have been the first clue. After 9 hours of loading and unloading, we discovered that the movers had stolen alcohol, been drinking on the job, and failed to use pads to pack our furniture. Consequently, nearly everything we owned had been scratched, chipped, or broken, including an unreplaceable oak bench more than a hundred years old. All the covers on our patio furniture were now torn and useless. Then after we realized that so many pieces we valued were damaged, the nightmare got worse as we tried to persuade Mid-Atlantic to make things right. They told us that the insurance covers virtually nothing, and they would be doing us a “favor” to have their restoration department attempt some repairs. We should be grateful they were willing to do that much. Now, two months later, after thousands of dollars in damaged furniture, and dozens of unreturned phone calls we are left with this: They offered us $100 to keep our mouths shut and not tell anyone what they did. (Remember this when you read their reviews!) $100 Wouldn’t even begin to replace the patio furniture and grille covers they destroyed, let alone fix the furniture. Then after telling us they had a professional furniture restoration expert, we let them take three pieces for repair. Result: They returned our dining room table with more damage than when they took it to fix it. They completely ruined, and we mean ruined! a sideboard which now matches nothing in the house. They did do a fair job fixing our breakfast table. But it is hard to be grateful for a repair when it never should have been broken in the first place. In retrospect, we are so glad we did not allow them to “fix” everything they broke before seeing what their repairs would look like. It is obvious they would have destroyed our antique bench. For the future protection of those who want to avoid a nightmare like ours, you will need to know that Mid-Atlantic Moving and Storage and Southside Moving and Storage and its subsidiaries are part of the same company. And lastly, here is a word about contracts. Mid-Atlantic tried to get us focused on the limitations of insurance. Regardless of insurance, it is implicit in all performance contracts that the work provided be done in a “workman-like manner”, meaning, the work must be done competently and professionally. Our dispute with Mid-Atlantic is not over insurance, it is over them failing to provide a professional service and then failing to make things right. We are now waiting to see if Mid-Atlantic writes a (lying) response to this. If they do, we will be back with more details.

Leading up to my move, everything went smoothly. The moving crew was fantastic. Two guys, one truck, and they loaded our entire house of stuff in the truck and delivered it two states away in a couple of days. They unloaded and reassembled everything in our new home. A piece of equipment received what appeared to be minor cosmetic damage, which I was not concerned about, and they were a great crew, so I had no intention of filing a claim (although I purchased full replacement cost coverage). However, after they left, we discovered that the reassembled equipment was no longer functioning properly due to either a piece being lost or broken in the reassembly process. I filed a claim, and the claim was denied. Their reason? They did not verify that the machine was in working order when they inventoried it, and I then let them leave before checking to see if it worked. Seriously? Am I supposed to keep them here and turn everything they touched on to make sure it works before I allow them to leave??? BEWARE...you will have to unpack and check EVERYTHING before you allow them to leave if you expect to recover for any damage, no matter which damage plan you choose. They have no interest in doing the right thing.

This was a horrible experience! I paid the movers to move 3 pieces of furniture and a few boxes less than a mile away. When transferring my new couch (less than a year old) was RUINED. The couch started as a cream and after transferring for a less than 5 minute drive the entire front was black because it was not wrapped correctly. The movers also broke the frame because they dropped it several times. The back wooden support beam now pokes through the fabric. They did not reimburse me for any of this damage after much talk that they would (thank God I had a separate insurance plan with the company i bought the couch from). The movers took apart my dresser to transport it and did not reassemble at the new location. My boxes were also thrown around. The movers cared very little about doing a good job. One mover carried my very long antique dresser by himself and did not care when bumping it into the walls. This company claimed they would credit me for my ruined couch. They did not. I had not heard from them for over 6 months and then was charged with a bill and over a 50$ late fee. When first contacting the company I thought I was moving with Atlantic moving. Apparently the management was switching and I was stuck with South-side. I would advice you to be careful and choose a better moving company. This company may be cheap but it is not worth the damage they cause along with the headache.

Horrible beware! Sales lady on phone said they will be done in specific time. Then when the guy showed up to move they said all know this is going to take is double the amount of time. We call the lady back she said oh no they’ll get it done and five hours later they said they were gonna be charging us more money plus another truck fee which was never said to us in the first place. We tried to call back and let her know that they took longer than what she said and she did not answer and the next day got a hold of someone different and they told us that they wouldn’t do anything with a credit card until we called them back looked at my account and they took the money without even asking for permission. Will never use them or anyone else affiliated with them in the future. Beware beware you wear

Movers broke and lost several items. I paid for a packing service that was not completed. I wrote a letter to the company and never received a claim form. I e-mailed the company and never heard back. I just finished filing a BBB complaint. Hopefully now they will answer my requests; or maybe I will have to see them in court. EDIT: Looks like I have to file a law suit as the company will not talk to the BBB. Good thing I took before/after photos.

The movers ruin my table. The fail to follow their own companies protocol. The contract states all furniture should be shrink wrapped. however, my table was not. I even asked the mover to wrap the table and he did not. The table is totally ruin. And, they want me to pay a $500 deductible for their employee reckless behavior. DONOT USE THIS COMPANY.

The movers themselves did a great job. They were professional and took care of our furniture without issue. The problem is the company only gave them one medium sized truck to move my house for 8,000 lbs. of items... my weigh in was no where near the 8,000 lb. minimum and they were only able to get roughly 75% of my items in that medium truck, so basicallly I had to take two more days and a uhaul on my own to move the rest of my items. If you say youre going to move 8,000 lbs. of items, thats your obligation. Not happy with a job incomplete.

Im going to keep this short and not-so-sweet (as Ive written a much lengthier review on Facebook, and I would invite anyone to read that review for more details). My wife booked Southside (through the alias Richmond Movers), which has done some small moves for my grandparents and mom in the past. They were fine then. We were quoted 5 hours with 3 movers at a reasonable price to move our storage unit and our 2 bedroom apartment to our new home. All sounded good.In the process, one of the movers all but quit (he stayed on to help but was in everyones way, and was the reason for furniture damages). My late grandmothers 100+ year old piano ended up on a truck for two days in 100 degree heat because they couldnt move it in (because the third guy refused to do it). Our move took 15 hours and we were billed over double the estimated cost. DOUBLE. Calls for additional support (both by myself and the movers) were ignored. Several pieces of furniture (one is an expensive Italian bed) were damaged. Furniture that was disassembled by them was not reassembled. A walk-through was supposed to have been performed pre-move, and that never happened. My wife, her sister, and I ended up having to move boxes into our house - all while paying for a service that would have allowed us to start getting settled in our home. And, thankfully, my wifes sister was here, because she had to take my wife away for an hour or two because she was crying over how badly everything went. And to top it all off, their customer service is some of the worst Ive ever seen. Once we finally received my piano (two days later), the moving truck literally just showed up at our front door. No call or anything. Trying to get resolution for any of these issues has led me to Carolyn, who, I dont believe, has lifted a single finger to help us, except to expedite the piano delivery (after it was already on a truck for two days). It took them five days from the move, and three days since our first contact, to email over a claims form (its 2016 - you can do this stuff while on the phone with your customer). She has not picked up the phone once or replied by email to anything Ive sent, even though Ive taken time out of my day (costing me time and money, since I work from home and bill hourly) to call her and email her to attempt to resolve things amicably. In short: Southside ruined the day we moved into our first house, billed us excessively, damaged our furniture, and is still costing me money to this day.Southside has been reported to the BBB for their actions - both for excessive billing for poor service (and bait-and-switch techniques) and furniture damages. Before my report, they had a D+ rating anyway. That should tell you something. Ill withdraw my report with the BBB and revise this review should they come through. Until then, this company gets two stars from me, simply because the two movers that actually worked (Mike and Terrance) were some of the hardest-working, most caring people Ive ever had the pleasure of meeting, and they both deserve to work for a better company than Southside. Otherwise, I wouldnt recommend Southside Moving to a soul.
