Greens Art Supply in Rochester. Been going there since I was a kid. Still worth the drive. I literally gave the woman behind the counter a quick, one sentence description of the kind of soft pastels I was looking for- they were my grandmas and they spread like butter. She knew EXACTLY what I was talking about & directed me right to them. They were Rembrandt brand & they had a full selection! I couldnt afford nearly all that I wanted because these are high quality pastels but I got a nice start. To build off of. Im so happy with my visit today!#ArtTherapy
We send all of our students here for supplies and they’ve returned happy year after year. The staff at Greens could not be more helpful and this place makes you feel like little kid in a candy shop with all of the supplies that they carry.
Friendly people and good selection of lovely art supplies. Love stopping in whenever I can!
Unfortunately closing due to retirement. This has been a Rochester classic.
Drove 40 miles to find the place closed till Nov 2021
Incredible knowledge of art and the tools required to make art of different media. They take care to share that knowledge with each customer.
Love the variety of art supplies available! I got myself India Ink and the guy who works there was very helpful in showing me different calligraphy pen options to work with. I will definitely be making frequent trips for art supplies there!
Surprisingly large selection. Very nice and helpful staff. Would be helpful if they updated their cash register. Unreliable credit card machine but worth the trip if you need quality art supplies.
Really great store that has just about everything. They even carried a special brand of oil paint I needed in the right color. The owners are friendly, generous and attentive. I would say it is a pretty great place
Cool little art store, it has everything i or my art loving kids will love
Everyone is incredibly friendly and helpful. Its an excellent specialized store with products for the professional artist all the way down to little kids. I love having this store nearby when I need to pick something up but dont want to wait for online delivery. Theyve got a good selection of copics and other alcohol markers, as well as paint and nearly every type of paper you can think of.
They have a good selection and really great customer service :) I love this shop!
It is easier to tell you what they Do Not carry then to talk about EVERYTHING they do. They do not carry yarn or staplers, but sometimes they have staplers. I have been tring to think of other things for 10 minutes, but can not think of anything else art related they do not carry. If you cant find it ask. They dont have room on their selling floor for everything. The have a garage full of clay. The basement and second story are full of everything: brushes, paint, pastels, canvases, stretcher bars, paper, pads; ceramic tools, glazes, kiln furniture......and the list goes on. They even sell Evenheat kilns and service them. They are a second generation family owned business.
The owner is sooo friendly and helpful! michigan is in the middle of the covid-19 pandemic with everything closed and i desperately needed a tube of white gouache. being able to pick up orders from the exterior of the shop saved my butt. i can’t wait to see what the inside of the store looks like once businesses reopen. thank you again!
Greens is a great place! Nice employees and family owned. Its always nice to give back to a small business
Great art supply store. Great selection of mat boards as well as other supplies
I was looking for one-shot lettering enamel locally, and a couple different people had suggested Greens. Although they no longer stock the paint, I found one dusty old can on the shelf. They said thanks for coming in, and gave it to me for next to nothing. Nice gesture and obviously speaks volumes to their service. Thank you!
.Great art supply venue. I have been buying from them since I was an undergraduate art student at Oakland University back in the 50s
This is hands down one of the BEST art stores I have been to. They have a huge selection of products for many different crafts. Pottery, drafting, illustration, painting and kids options. They carry a great selection of Windsor-Newton water color paints and tools I use for drawing. Good prices and the staff are absolutely hilarious. They remember us when we come in even if its been a year or two. Greens is a must stop for us.
Its an amazing place for really high quality art supplies
Amazing store . One stop for all your art requirements. But watch out for the timing of the store - it’s 10AM to 6 PM on weekdays
Closing soon.
This store has been around for a long time with good reason. Great place to buy all of my art supply
Friendly staff willing to help you with your artistic desires. Way better than a mainstream box store where special help and advice wont be found.
I worked with Kim and the Greens Art store team to coordinate the purchase and delivery of supplies for an event I was coordinating from afar. The team was amazing to work with -- super kind, detailed, and they executed my order perfectly. I look forward to the opportunity to do business with Greens Art Rochester again!
Love this place!
Always friendly and helpful, my go to for my painting supplies 🙂
They have a large selection of Matt board and I was able to find the one I wanted.
Wow, this place is terrible. They have an alright selection, sure, but their customer service is wretched. Aside from being standoffish and cold, they repeatedly treat teenage/young adult customers like criminals, even going so far as to mistrustfully snatch items right out of my stepdaughter’s hands (items that she was going to purchase). Appalling. How dare that employee lay hands on my child. They should be ashamed.
Very nice place with a huge selection and friendly staff 👍🏼
I will never, EVER go here again. I dont want to be stalked while walking through a store, and when I asked the gentleman cashier to leave me alone directly, he still didnt. I dont care about your prices or range of products. If Im made that uncomfortable in less than ten minutes at the store, you wont get my business. To top this off, they did not have the colors and mm of calligraphy markers I needed and no other alternatives.
I live in Rochester, am in the creative field, and have been purchasing art supplies for myself and my children for over a decade, and I love Greens. I find the people that work there to be knowledgable, helpful, and extremely nice. Art stores are fighting a losing war with e-commerce; its nice to see that personal service and midwest charm can keep Greens going. :)
Very helpful every one is very nice. They have great selection of art supplies for all kinds of art.
Very friendly staff as well as helpful. Great experience.
I just went there for the first time and had the best experience! The people working there dont feel like theyre trying to sell you something, theyre genuine and very knowledgable. The people complaining about parking have obviously never been to downtown Rochester! its worth the trip, promise.
Fantastic art store. Great staff
Greens has old and dirty stock and is difficult to navigate, being very cluttered. The help is RUDE and NOT HELPFUL. The most interesting thing is that all of Greens stock can be found online for half as much. Not worth the trip or the difficulty finding parking.
Got in and out quickly. Usual McD guality
This store is great. Very friendly service
Great selection of just about everything!
I have been going to Greens since 1999. I observe the following:+ it has improved over time, especially in the past 1/2 year (I am writing this in August 2015).+ the staff has always been polite to me, but I have seen them be much more overtly kind & generous to children.Since my daughter also loves art, I have often gone there in her company & as a result, I probably have a better experience with the staff than many. In fact, from my perspective, Greens has shown us the upside of shopping local -- the people who work there recognize me & my daughter (& for that matter, my husband & sons) when I go in. I really have not had any issues with personalities.Once Greens sold their Birmingham store, but especially in the past few months, its stock & appearance have improved markedly. I use M. Graham paints & was delighted to see that Greens now stocks both the oils & the watercolors, which is more than Ive seen at Blicks (not that theres anything wrong with Blicks, but its much more of a schlepp from my home). I had been getting M. Graham mail order from a store in Chicago; I am happy I can stock up from a hometown store. Greens has also expanded their hours & seem to be working more to become part of the art community -- e.g., offering classes.Once the parking structure behind the store is complete, I am hopeful those who gave the store poor reviews will give it a second look. One thing I have heard people complain of & thats the check out system -- Greens still writes out receipts by hand & has a very slow credit card link. I generally am not in a rush so my biggest problem with the slowness is that I start looking around again & make a few impulse buys. I wonder, however, whether this means my account information is more or less secure than at bigger stores such as Michaels (which has had its entire database hacked). So far, I feel as if the lack of electronic data keeping is probably a good thing.
An artists paradise
Friendly service.
One of the older businesses in downtown Rochester, almost everything you are looking for in art supplies.
Fantasic selection
Great staff
Family business environment
Nice
