This is a really solid, classic diner with a wide range of options on the menu. I’ve only been for breakfast so far, so I won’t speak for their dinner service, but both visits I’ve had great service and delicious food. You can choose from regular, hazelnut, or Jamaican coffee (and decaf, but 😑), and the servers come around frequently for refills. The blueberry pancakes are a must-get for me, and the Mediterranean omelette is a great savory (and vegetarian) option.
Great spot for a top-notch breakfast. You cant beat the old-time feel of dining in an actual rail car. Inside, the decor is beautifully done and takes you back in timeThe breakfast was delicious. I went with the Gyro skillet with feta, red onions, and tzatziki sauce, topped with two sunny side eggs. Hot and tasty coffee. My wife had the combo with two eggs combo and bacon and rye toast. And oh yeah, great English muffins to top it off.I will surely be back when back in Rochester.
Really good and filling food, friendly service, quick delivery, cool looking building, very welcoming and pleasant atmosphere. We were really satisfied at the end. I ate the best omelette Ive ever had in my life. I would come here everyday if I didnt live 6 hours away.
My daughter and I had a great breakfast here. It was busy but didn’t have to wait for counter seats. Waitress was super friendly, attentive, and efficient. Best Greek omelette I’ve had at any restaurant. My daughters cheesecake French toast was excellent. Only negative was that owner’s father came out of wherever, hung behind the counter with a scowl on his face. He was in the way of the waitresses and was making comments to them. Changed the whole mood. And he wasn’t helpful! If you’re going to be in the way, then refill our coffees, or cleanup when customers leave. Be part of the solution, not the problem. Boo! To him. Keep him off the floor!!
Really good food. Small tables though. I love that its very old-school, however there wasnt much room for myself, three friends, and all the food we wanted. Wish I remembered what I ordered. It was a hot skillet with jalapeños, though I requested mine without Shrimp. It was good food, though the grits werent my favorite. The customer service was great! The atmosphere also was overall nice. Looking forward to going there again. Possibly with one other person, unless theres larger seating somewhere I didnt realize.
Amazing food amazing prices guit what you get you wont leave here unsatisfied. The highland skillet was so good and the portions were enough to fill you up. Staff are super friendly out really gives you a sense of community. Its a cozy diner experience so try and call ahead or give yourself some time before being seated.
This is one of our favorite places to eat in all of Rochester. During rush times there will be a wait but its worth it for breakfast, brunch or lunch! They make a fantastic milk shake and they have a large menu for both breakfast and lunch. One of my favorite Rubens or... try their patty melt! My wife loves their pancakes with bananas and Walnuts! The staff is always so friendly and the service and food are excellent. I love enjoying a breakfast at the Highland Diner
Place isnt what it used to be. Chef mike seems to be pretty busy. Definitely something you dont want to see when youre at a respectable diner. I can nuke food at home for cheaper...Good luck to them on this new direction.
This is a very small diner and you will most likely be waiting for a table no matter what. The food was decent but definitely over priced. I ordered the cinnamon French toast and it was not fully cooked all the way, but the eggs and bacon were good. Milkshakes look awesome will definitely be back to give those a try, thats what most people seem to be stopping in here for.
Great breakfast and quick service. Wait times can be lengthy but worth it. The Nutella breakfast was my favorite.
Has really good food. Decent prices. Servers were nice food came quick. Will go again.
Good service. Good parking place. Coffee needs improvement. Over all good place to visit.
We had a late lunch with our two young kiddos. The service was quick and waitress was friendly. The food was delicious, and reasonably priced. The kids loved the Mickey pancakes, my brother had the country fried steak, and I had the western omelette, huge portions and so good. Highly recommended.
Oh man, this place is worth the wait! Our wait was only 30 ish minutes, but it was so worth it. Everything comes our fast and so fresh. I highly recommend the pumpkin french toast. However, any of the Benedicts are equally amazing.
Breakfast was good. Grits werent fantastic (I am a Southerner). Overall not bad for breakfast.
I definitely would like to spend a little less than 7 years between visits next time. The food is absolutely worth it, the location is just in a part of the city I dont make it too very often.
Consistently amazing meals! We always get breakfast and I have very literally *never* had a bad meal or even a mistake in my order in the 15 years weve been eating here. We go 2-4 times a month. And the friendliest staff in the whole world!
Our server Tina, was so incredibly nice and attentive. I had ordered the cheesecake French toast which was the best thing I have ever had on this earth. My boyfriend had ordered the regular type of breakfast and the pancakes were so delicious. I definitely recommend this place. The inside is so cute as well.
Good fair at fair prices with a great staff. Great place for breakfast.
I love this place. Huge portions, great service, lovely atmosphere, reasonable prices, and quality food. What more could you ask for?
Dirty interior flies all over, repeatedly saw food being microwaved. The super soggy French toast, ugh…. Pancakes had almost a foul spoiled taste to it. On a positive note the waitress was efficient and friendly.
Huge portions, excellent quality, fresh ingredients. My husband had an omelette (which he said was terrific) and I had a skillet and we split the banana bread French toast. Great job packing the food for take out. Our order was packed well, with all condiments and serving ware. Can’t recommend enough. Make sure you’re hungry though—we couldn’t finish what we ordered!
Perfect environment for a little bustling diner, with some incredibly unique offerings. Theres regular diner fare, like omelettes, but almond french toast and nutella milkshakes are a new one. Despite its popularity, theyre always great at getting you seated quickly.
You pay for what you get. The french toast with almonds stuffing..yummmmmmmmy! Our waitress was amazing and kind. Price wqs great..im going back!
Skillet breakfast for lunch was superb. Service perfect.
Food was pretty good. Nice lil spot to have breakfast. Nice old school diner feel.
Great food as always! Friendly staff, HUGE portions, great selection!
Great diner - very friendly staff and good value. Show up early to make sure you can park easily and get a spot inside.
The Nutella stuffed French toast was phenomenal. This is such a fun place to grab a unique bite to eat!
Easy Claps. Felt like a boss cuz the servers made me feel like one. 10/10 would come back. Maybe even live here 👍
Just visited again after not having been there in a few years. Service was friendly. Breakfast skillet had sausage gravy. It was basically like a flour paste with very little sausage in it. Italian omelette sausage was cubes of odd tasting sausage. Coffee was basic diner coffee. Honestly, we kind of had to work through it just to finish and get out of there. Nothing there to draw us back
LOVED this place. Our service was so quick and the food was amazing. Must visit for breakfast after a late night.
Ive been eating here for almost 20 years and its always been very good. Great for breakfast or lunch, and open for dinner. Takeout available. Awesome shakes, which come in over 15 flavors. People love the omelettes, and my favorite is the turkey club. Not cheap, but the food is good quality. Limited seating and parking. Great location, if not easy to get in or out.
Its fine. The burger/bun ratio was off and everything was falling out of the burger, but if you dont mind a little mess then its all good. Fries and milkshakes are good.
We love this place. We always try to visit when we are in town. Great food and Great service
Wish I took pictures. Portion size will blow your mind and the taste was amazing. Im very hard tp please with food when i go out as i know what good and not good taste like from my years of experience in the kitchen of many restaurants, even serving as a cook in the military.!!! THIS IS A MUST VISIT LOCATION !!!Youll be thankful you did
A bit congested, but other than that the food and service are always stellar. Recommend getting there earlier unless you want to wait for a table.
Love the prices! Great diner, only wish it was open longer!
The food is fantastic, I would highly recommend it for breakfast or lunch. Just be aware that you may have a hard time finding parking, so plan accordingly.
Food. Was great Im going back. It cost a little more but its worth it
Food ordered: Eggs Benedict with potatoes, Nutella stuffed French Toast and french fries with Cajun seasoning. The food was good. The Nutella french toast is super sweet and in my opinion its something 2 people can share. Its also a great dessert. The place: the place is SMALL with limited parking. Once you get a seat and order the food comes out pretty fast. It feels like a fast paced environment but I think its because its small. Staff is fine nothing out of the ordinary but they get the job done.
Fantastic! A must stop if traveling through town. Mostly locals here; popular. Great service. Fresh food. Don’t let the old school, diner-style fool you.
There were about 7 parties waiting before us and we still got to sit down within 10 minutes. Our food took about 5 minutes to be out, which was surprisingly fast considering it was packed. Ive waited at iHop longer when the place wasnt even half full. The food was AMAZING and so was the service. Its an old diner but thats the beauty of the place.
Delicious food, nice relaxing atmosphere, exceptional service, food was brought out quickly after ordering.
Great place for a casual breakfast. The retro bus-made-diner aesthetic is interesting. As for the food, the portions are huge. I ordered the New Orleans Skillet and wasnt close to finishing my plate before I was full. A little bit more seasoning and flavor to the dish wouldve made it perfect but other than that everything was great, including the service. Also I wouldnt order the grapefruit juice, it tasted like tang so we switched it for the cranberry and that was way better.
Such great food! The eggs benedict dishes are all fantastic!
Had best blueberry pancakes in years! Guest of mine loved her turkey sandwich, and it reminded her of a diner in the 10th ward her dad used to take her to as a kid. Big hit!
The food and staff were amazing as always.
The chocolate pancakes were decent. Pretty good food
I felt that perhaps I was in the NYC metropolitan area.....the little chrome diner squeezes as many people inside as humanly possible. Even the counter space is incredibly crowded. And yet....it all added to the ambience of this buzzing mecca on a Saturday morning. The breakfast was delicious, the cost reasonable.....just be ready to wait outside until your party is called - something to think about as Rochester goes into a winter deep freeze.
The fact that it is a restaurant in a real railcar is a cool experience, but more importantly the breakfast was Amazing!! We went back 3 times before we left introducing my brother & father to the experience. Although very busy, the staff us friendly and attentive! This is a must visit in Rochester!!
Amazing breakfast food. Theres so many options to choose from too. Took my non-Rochestarian family here and it was their favorite part of visiting roc.
For was great, waitresses were also great!! Love the atmosphere 👍
Great food. Pancakes are too thick for my taste.
Nice interior, very cute place. I had high hopes based on other reviews. The service was great! Everyone was super nice. Tho the food kinda sucked. Definitely not the best but ok.
Turkey was great but meatloaf didnt hv much flavor. Mashed potatoes great. Bean soup great. Bathroom was clean.
We stopped in for breakfast on our last day in town. I had the chicken verde omelet, and my sister had the raspberry French toast. Everything was fantastic. Mary was the lone server holding down the fort in the early morning, and she effortlessly glided throughout the diner taking orders, serving food, and refilling coffee.
Best breakfast in town. Great atmosphere!
I liked it!!!! Loved that diner feel. Was A bit dissapointed in the smoked salmon omelette. Salmon was more cooked than smoked. But overall good. Would definitely recommend
Love visiting this fun diner. Milkshakes by far are the best.
Its a great place to eat and its very popular and sometimes you have to wait for a while but it is worth the wait.
Great food, great service! A bit pricey compared to suburb joints but very good!
I went there tonight (Sat 11/7) on a date. I had been there before, But it was nice to bring my date there as she had never been there before. We had appetizers, & Gyros. For dessert we both got milkshakes. I had coconut my date had cheesecake flavor. She was very impressed. Loved coming back, hope to return again.
Food was good, portions were large, and waitresses were awesome. Really nice place
Visiting family and today, Easter Sunday, is the second time I have eaten here. Ive had dinner and now breakfast. Both times, the wait was short and the staff was excellent! The food was tasty and the menu is well rounded. For breakfast, they have a list of eggs Benedict that is comprehensive! The quality of the food is superb and the atmosphere is homey. The back of the staffs t-shirts accurately declare nothing could be finer than to dine at the diner!
Very busy and friendly place food was excellent and hot
Me and my friend truly love this place. Its has a great vintage feel. And we always get breakfast. Its wonder treat for brunch. You definitely get a good bang for your buck. If your not too greedy lol. You can make it last two meals . They have a great variety of options. And the staff has always been nice. Currently with COVID-19 and winter. I would def get there a bit earlier just in case you have to wait for a table inside.
Food is always great. At most its a 15 to 20 minute wait. Service is great. Always a positive experience
This was italian skillet, bananas foster, and Mediterranean omelet!! My favorites!!
Food is great! Always something yummy to try, but the place is very small. I would only recommend going in a couple, even small groups are hard to fit.
Hands down, without question, the BEST breakfast spot in all of Rochester. Food is incredible, fresh, and comes out amazingly fast. On top of this, the servers are always so friendly. Been going there for years, and a lot of the staff have been there just as long. Consistently amazing food, consistent staff, cant beat it anywhere. Oh... And you do not pay a premium for this amazing food and service. VERY affordable. Very limited seating, but worth the wait if you have one.
I love coming here, the food is always amazing and the service is fantastic. The atmosphere is always great and I bringing the family.
One of the best breakfast I have hadHighly recommend
