Extremely rude Walked!Walked in with my daughter and 2 grandsons. First thing he said is I dont make cheap chocolate!As we asked questions.. idont make chocolate for kids. Very dismissive!I gave it 2 star only because chocolate was good but nothing extraordinary. He assumed I wouldnt really buy much and he was wrong. I would have but didnt!

Very professional, high quality. I dont understand why anyone would buy their chocolate from Fanie May when Rockford has a jem like this place.

Very excellent chocolate. If you want milk chocolate or the taste of Hersheys, you wont find it here. But if you love deep chocolate, you have to stop in and buy a few.

Dont bring your kids here, they dont like kids and are rude to them!

Daniel makes incredible chocolate, thats all there really is to it. He knows his craft inside and out and was more than happy to answer any questions my wife and I had about the selection he had available. Every piece we got was fantastic, my only regret is that the box is now empty.

As someone who as baked and experimented with desserts for over 20 years, I can tell you that in my professional opinion these are some of the best chocolates Ive ever had. Owner was funny and sarcastic and VERY knowledgable. Love that everything is as natural and home grown as possible.

What an amazing place. We have been going to Daniel for 10 years. He is flat out amazing. Hos love and talent is the best we have had...we travel often and have a love of chocolate. What Daniel does is pure art! Please please go visit him!

I stopped in one night for a quick typical piece of chocolate. When I got there, I learned this place was anything but typical. He only sells dark chocolate. I got 3 different dark chocolate pieces with unique flavors and a slice of a flourless baked dark chocolate torte. These were the best chocolates I have ever tasted. The torte melted in my mouth. The owner was not rude. He was funny and proud of his work.

Hand made custom small-batch chocolates. The chocolates are infused with flavors, not filled creams. Brought home for Christmas this year: eggnog spice, frankincense (tastes like Midnight Mass), mulled wine inspired by Dickins, a rare caramel, fire and ice (cayenne and vodka?), and my favorite Intrigue. The greeting we received when entering this dark business was a rude did you come to look at some expensive chocolate?.Then the owner told me he highly doubted [my] daughter was going to like [his] dark, bitter, unsweetened chocolate and then seemed insulted that Id consider allowing it to cross the lips of a child (who I allowed to run her sticky kid-fingers all over his do not touch glass case after his unwelcoming tone and lack of people skills).My daughter loved your $5.00 tiny piece of dark chocolate and wanted to go back for more. I would have purchased a box to take home had the owner not been a presumptuous and condescending business owner. So many other businesses with owners who are appreciative of customers.Dont support ungracious business.

Best chocolate I ever had before in my life. An amazing selection of high end dark chocolate. Will definitely come back! If youre not a fan of real dark chocolate, get a Hershey bar. This guy knows how to make real chocolate!

I travel to lots of random towns across the country for work and try to get local chocolates from wherever I am to take to my wife. She said Daniels chocolates are the best Ive ever brought home. They are very pure without additives and you can taste the quality.

Fantastic chocolates. Dark only, but unique and delicious. I dont even buy chocolates anywhere else because I know they wont compare. Expensive? Not really. They are not the kind of chocolate that you eat a dozen in one sitting and still arent satisfied. These are decadent treats.One good piece, eaten slowly and with attention, is all that is needed. The chocolate diablo is to die for.

Okay, so the lavender chocolates are amazing, but Daniel behind the counter seemed extremely uptight and could be a little more friendly to the customers. I thought it was just me, but a friend when they went in said they had a similar experience.

Great chocolate! Very knowledgeable. We got the Diablo chocolate cake and Turkish coffee. Excellent all the way around, highly recommend.

Im a French chocolatier from Lyons, France. After reading this mans website about how he studied in France I knew I had to visit. After sampling several chocolates, I can say in full confidence that all his claims are lies. Nothing about these chocolates had any french influence, I would prefer a Hersheys kiss over whatever trash he sold me.

The shop is dark and creepy in the daytime. Much more conducive to evening atmosphere. I have enjoyed the chocolate for years, even introducing it to newcomers of Rockford. The snobbishness of the owner is off-putting. If it werent for the fact that the chocolate is so excellent I might be deterred from buying it.

The store smells like a moldy basement. The owner was quick to assume we stopped by for a Hershey bar or some cheap candy. Instead of asking if he could help us with something, he told my grandkids not to put fingerprints on the glass. Proceeded to tell us hes closing because City Market is starting. He said he wants nothing to do with Those People with rotten teeth and drink too much beer. Quickly showed us the way out. I wouldnt buy from him under any circumstance.

The guy is a little crazy or???... but his chocolate is good....but please dont tell customers ...not offend the chocolate gods.... I mean really!!??...... dude---- this is NOT what you say to people; who come into your pitch black place( NO LIGHTS ON ) then you flick the lights on..... and say in a European... phony...voice MAY I HELP YOU come down to earth........ and just sell your candy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!AND WHY DO YOU HAVE A CANDY CALLED OPIUM???? I wasnt sure what to expect walking in... but I was not disappointed. Daniel makes everything from scratch and knows exactly what its in every piece of chocolate. A little pricey but worth every penny... hot chocolate is seasonal but I will be stopping in when it is available.

I took the time to read the one-star reviews, and they all point to the same thing: people are whiny brats who expect business owners to grovel at their feet. Wahhh, he didnt make me feel warm and fuzzy! Wahhh! I appreciate Daniels GTFOH attitude. Let a big box store appease these entitled customers.We go to Daniel to buy gift chocolates mostly. His chocolates are so good that I am usually really sad that we are supposed to be giving them away as gifts. We bought a bunch of them for Thanksgiving as a gift this year. They were beautiful and delicious - the pumpkin flavored chocolates were especially well-received.

I will admit this place may not be for everyone. Yes it is pricey but it did not disappoint. My experience at Daniels was a pleasant one. He was more then happy to go thorugh the selection and give descriptions. You can tell he is prideful and knowledgeable about his job. This may be where some people perceive him as rude. I will be going back when I need my next chocolate fix.

This guy knows his art. The flourless Chocolate torte will give your tastebuds something to write home about. We are fortunate to have this guy here in Rockford.

Asked what the different flavours of the chocolate were, he suggested Lemon. (There was no lemon taste) the chocolate all tasted the same. Beautiful chocolate but no need to snob it up! I wouldnt be back because the owner likes to hear himself talk. Asked if the chocolate had a glaze over it. A simple No would have been sufficent, instead he replys with no the crystals have been formed to perfection ... not a peoples person! Very talented but what he makes up in skill he lacks in interpersonal skills. Such a shame as his chocolate it beautiful

Daniel makes great chocolate. Its fairly expensive, but in a world of excess his truffles serve as a reminder to slow down and enjoy the small details.

I was treated like Julia Roberts in Pretty woman.....Rude....Asked if I wanted to look at his very expensive chocolate.......after telling me that his neon lite was an I.Q. tester because I mention that it looked like he was closed... Downtown Rockford shops cant afford to lose customers...so sad...
