I came in, and the extremely short chick working there today didnt even respond when I cheerfully asked how she was doing. And then I order an egg drop soup without the peas and carrots, and she says in a rude tone the price, and pours the soup. And then she literally snatched the card out of my hand, knocking over the card reader machine, and handed it back to me- making me feel rushed. I get home, and that was when I saw she didnt strain it, and she gave me STALE fried egg noodles. Not happy at all. She made me feel unwelcome, rushed me, and ignored my request. Yall need to make it right with me. At least give me a free meal or do something about her. Until then, I wont be coming back.

We get combination fried rice and combination lo mein and it’s really good. Egg rolls are sooooo good!

I will start by saying this is the best Chinese Food I have had since moving to Rockwall county. Now, I must also add the bar isnt set very high in this area. The lady who took my order was pleasant over the phone as well as in person. The lo mein was good but reminded me of the type you get at Mongolian bbq and was pretty heavy on the garlic (but I like Garlic). The flavor profile on the sesame chicken was good but as other reviews mentioned the breading is super thick and not the tempura type of texture that youd expect. The fried rice that came with the lunch special was lacking in vegetables and egg but I also know usually the fried rice that comes with the specials doesnt have any veggies so I am curious if an actual order of rice like a shrimp fried rice would come with more veggies. Overall 4 stars but I would come back for sure.

Arrived very quickly, we were very happy with that, but we werent all that happy with dinner. We both ordered chicken teriyaki bowls and they just dont come with much veggies - I guess you have to take the time to add it separately. Kind of a PITA, but that would be user error on my part for not reading I guess. The egg roll and spring rolls were really good, the main dish was just missing a lot.

I was greeted very the people are very nice. I ordered shrimp in lobster sauce for lunch it was truly fantastic they really make an excellent lobster sauce. This was my first time there I cannot wait to go back and try another dish. Price was very fair and the amount of food they give was perfect.

I like Chef Chen. They are decent. They offer lunch specials for about $6.50 total which includes a lunch portion size of main entree and rice (fried or steamed) and spring roll. I had the orange chicken... 🤔 I don’t think I’ll have it again. The flavor is there, but the chicken pieces are over fried and the meat is really tough and dark. Not sure what piece of the chicken this is. If maybe they used white meat pieces and cooked less time, could be perfect!

Dont put dine in on your description, if you only offer takeout. Absolutely rediculous!!

First time I ever tried Chinese food I had shrimp lo mein it was very good

Their orange chicken tasted burned and rice was bland, didnt enjoy my meal. I had to drown my food in duck and soy sauce to make it tolerable. Only thing good is the portions but rather have quality than quantity in this case.

I have been searching a good Chinese restaurant around my area and this is the spot to go to. The Orange chicken is amazing, the lo mein is really good, and dumplings are delicious. I have been to several places, but fail at making good Chinese food with bad/cheap product. When I want to eat a traditional Chinese food I would go here instead of your typical Panda express ( Not real Chinese food). You wont be disappointed with the orange chicken. Great taste and wont get enough of it. This is the place where I will be coming back for more and more.

We used to love Chef Chen, but our last few visits have not been pleasant. We were overcharged (just $2, but still) and the fried shrimp was so over fried it was inedible.

I love love love Chef Chen!! The food is always amazing. My favorite is the orange chicken because their mix of sweet and sour with a the right amount of heat dances on your tastebuds. They also have quick ans friendly service and offer delivery when you just dont feel like leaving the house.

Round here it’s probably the closest you’ll find to good Chinese food. Only criticism is I’m not a big fan when places don’t load up their friend rice with egg, veggies etc... it was basically just white rice with soy sauce.

We usually go to China Lake, but theyre closed on Tuesdays (which, of course, is when I wanted Chinese), so we tried Chef Chen.My husband and daughter shared the sesame chicken and enjoyed it, but my Chow Mein with vegetables was a disaster.Upon opening the container, the chicken was translucent... not a good thing to see with chicken. I decided to try a bite, but it was undercooked, so I spit it out. We tried cooking everything, but with the rice it was a gummy mess, and the chicken was still a strange texture. Everything went into the trash.Despite the rest of the food being okay, I will not be visiting Chef Chen again. Definitely was not a good experience.

Really good. I got the Sesame Chicken and some Spring rolls and kept eating after I was full. Thats when I knew it was good.

This is the 3rd time we ordered delivery and they got the order wrong or left off items. Last time we got no rice with our entrees. This time no egg rolls. Lousy service. Three times you are out!

Terrible customer service, if they forget part of your order they do not care. I understand its the holidays during a pandemic, but the customer service issue we encountered went beyond that. We ordered at 545PM and the food arrived at approximately 7PM, incredibly reasonable turn around. Unfortunately, they forgot half of the order. No big deal- it happens- so we call and report the oversight. The manager immediately claims to call the driver to have him come back with the second half of our order. We received a promise they would call us with an update shortly. We called them again at 735PM and they advised they were making the second half of the order having it delivered. Ok, we were understanding and said that was fine. We called again at 834PM and were told the same thing. Again, we chose to stay calm. Its the holidays, people are busy- we get it. But when I called for a 4th time at 9PM and was told again, the order was going to be delivered shortly, I finally got frustrated. As of this time, it was more than 3 hours after we had ordered. Chef Chen never bothered to reach out to us, we had to call them each time. This is when we have officially become frustrated and finally ask for a cancellation or a refund of the missing items. The restaurant argued. Insisting on the order being delivered and offering a 15% discount on a future order. At this point, we have no desire to order again in the future, the food was no longer needed and we had to change meal plans for half the family. I had to ask numerous times for a refund before one was finally agreed to. A refund of $20.19 was offered to offset the items we had not yet received. At 910pm the food was delivered and we received a call from Chef Chen saying that instead of just refunding the items they would just have the driver leave the missing items and $20 and call it even. So, half our meal was 3.5 hours late, and were given $20 cash instead of a proper refund. The staff was very short on apologies and lacked understanding of how to correct an issue. Instead we were told numerous times it wasnt the restaurants fault because they were busy and just didnt have time to fix the mistake. Again, I understand it is busy- but when a restaurant makes a mistake it should not be a punishment for the customer. If they were not going to get the items out timely, we should have been told that upfront and given a chance to cancel the missing items. instead we were forced to call 4 times and request a refund multiple times before action was finally taken.

First time trying a new place for Chinese and god is it awful... I got orange chicken and hot/sour soup.My orange chicken is hard as a rock... can’t even bite into it. Hot and sour soup tastes old.At least they didn’t mess up steamed rice..... hopefully this is a one time issue and not their normal food service.

I usually don’t do bad reviews but I was so embarrassed because we planned a big family lunch and the second we walked in the restaurant smelled so bad and rotten. The floors were super sticky and mirrors were disgusting and not wiped down. You can tell if they don’t clean the seating area then imagine what the kitchen would be. The food came and it was all old and rotten. The rest of our family left and we ended up staying and got a horrible stomach ache. DO NOT go here. I understand it’s covid but the restaurant was NOT clean at all. I almost threw up. Even the seats were sticky, the guy kept hovering over us and watching us which made us uncomfortable. Never going here again save yourself the embarrassment.

Visited with my toddler son on a Thursday midday, about 2pm and the restaurant was empty. We ordered from the menu at the register and the food was brought over to us after just a few minutes. They have a good selection of lunch items from 11am to 3pm so we were able to share the beef lo mein. Lunch comes with soup and an egg roll for about $6, not bad. I got the wonton soup which was quite tasty. The noodles for the lo mein were a little over cooked and kind of soft but still had a good flavor. The person who brought the food forgot to bring the side of fried rice that I ordered and I never saw him again for ask about it. I asked the 2 asian folks sitting at a booth eating (assuming they worked there). They apologized and got me some rice. Overall with lunch, side of rice and 2 drinks the got was $12. So disappointed!! This used to be the best place to get fresh and tasty Chinese food. We have ordered for years, but it has definitely gone downhill. The food does not have any flavor. The meat is terrible quality. It’s like it’s changed owners or cooks. :-(It looks like we will have to find a new place to satisfy our Chinese cravings.

For my one year anniversary, I said ‘pick what you want for dinner sweets.’ My honey did and I was pretty disappointed. Zero noodle veggies, bland sauce, & the dishes with a spicy notation were anything besides flavorful. I’ll stick to Golden Pot for my next craving 🤷‍♂️

Really, really good!! Got the Catay Combo, China Town, and chicken wraps. All portions were very generous. The Catay and China Town were the same, both with triple meats and all the good veggies, like water chestnuts and baby corn, nor Napa filler. However, The Catay is spicy, more so than most places, and lots of chili flavor, not just heat. Really liked both dishes! The chicken wraps were really good, although the lettuce was missing from my order. This would be my new go-to place if it were just closer to my house. Open a location in Rockwall, Chef Chen!

To the owner- you could make your life easier and make more money and most importantly satisfy your customers if you implemented Chow Now for online ordering. Its ridiculous in the year 2020 to have somebody answering the phone putting people on hold and taking phone orders. Really bad customer service and closed minded. I suggested Chow Now to the woman on the phone and she dismissed my suggestion. Plus due to the language barrier and her panicking due to the other 3 phone lines constantly ringing she didnt even understand what I was saying. Ridiculous

First time trying their food and we had it delivered within a timely manner. I personally think you get a lot of food for your buck and overall, pretty tasty. We ordered the sesame chicken, the orange chicken and a cup of egg drop soup. The soup was a little salty for my own personal taste but nothing that stopped me from enjoying it. My kiddo loved all plates so we will be ordering that again.

Yesterday was our first time we went to this magnificent restaurant. But It is definitely not the last time. We enjoyed the evening very much with the good service, with the fine cuisine and booze and with the decent pay. We will surely come back soon.

I normally try to eat real Asian food and not American versions. Chef Chen has very good American Chinese food. Lots of yummy veggies. Dishes with mushrooms are normally loaded with mushrooms. The chicken fried rice is some of the best I have ever had. Highly recommend.

Best General Tsos chicken I have ever had. Food is always delicious. Orders always correct. They delivery themselves if youre close enough which means no boosted grubhub or Uber eats prices. Definitely one of the best experiences Ive had from a restaurant.I havent ever eaten inside the actual restaurant, always take out. Its a little hard to find, and from the outside looks a little off putting, but the service and food Ive had so far is amazing.

Waited an hour for my food. Come to find out, it was sitting on the counter the entire time. No one bothered to give it to me even though I already paid and told them the name on the order. They said it wasnt ready yet so I sat down to wait. Finally asked how much longer and then tried to give me the food that was now cold.

I had been a loyal customer for years. The establishment has been going down for the last few years. I informed the manager of the incorrect order I received tonight. I was told that the owner and manager PERSONALLY checked my order before it was sent for delivery. The manager was quite dismissive and disrespectful. I will not spend my money there again. I will go where my I and my money are appreciated.

I have eaten at your restaurant for years. Your food is good. Your prices are good. BUT allow me to say your restaueant is filthy. We came in this week and it was horrible along with the restroom. I am calling for the health department its so bad! Please fix this horrible situation or I believe you will lose your restaurant.

We order from here often. Today is the last time! I placed my normal order for delivery & was quoted a price. Received a call back stating my total was higher because I asked for my sauce to be on the side instead of on my chicken. I stated that I always order that way and have never been charged. The order gets here & sauce is on the chicken. I call for them to fix it and after going back & forth they agree to send me the corrected order. 45 minutes later delivery driver shows up and asks for the food back before he would give me the corrected order. I explained to him that Im feeding two hungry kids so the rice was gone but he could have the chicken. So he waited and wouldnt let us have our food until I gave him the chicken.Seriously cant even believe I just dealt with that. Never again.

Good food thick accent Asian female could not understand my order and would not allow food combos but the week before I ordered the samething and it was allowed.

I order from here about once a month and have never had any problems until this time. My 8 year old daughter almost swallowed a 1 inch metal shaving found in her white rice. I have published this photo in the photo section. I called chef chen to let them know of the finding. They said that its probably from the metal brush they use to clean the pots with. They offered me 15% off my next visit and I found this to be a horrible resolution. I told them they needed to dump all that rice and stop using that brush . They said they would but it sounded like they just wanted me off the phone. If you want to eat metal I recommend this place but I will NEVER be back. I hope you choose a different place as well because anyone who simply offers you 15% off your NEXT purchase for something that could have put your daughter in the hospital, does not need to be in business. Im thoroughly and utterly disgusted by their level of professionalism, customer service and basic care for human life.

I’ve never had a bad experience with Chef Chen until TODAY 4/10/20 @ 2:13pm... I was calling to order lunch for my family for delivery... like i always do! The girl that answered was EXTREMELY RUDE! She was trying to rush me and was making me be quiet lol I’m still shocked because I was and am always super nice (specially to people who handle my food!) I just told her that I’m not going to order anymore and I hung up because she was plain disrespectful. Because of her I will not ordering from here ever again omgosh horrible customer service.

Chef Chen is truly a gem in the Rowlett community! The food is delicious! It doesnt matter if you are ordering a classic dish or getting something custom made (which they do for the calorie conscious). Their food is mouth watering, hot, fast, and done right!

I visit this special place once a month since I love the good mood that is outline this place. The personel is highly loving and professional. The service is absolutely rapid. Needless to say, the food they prepare is first-rate. I have been there more than once and I was always happy. The pay is reasobable. I highly suggest this place to all my friends.

Every time I eat here it is great. I tried Chef Chen a couple of years ago when I was visiting my mother and we were both very pleased. I have been to many other Chinese restaurants but Chef Chen serves the best tasting highest quality food. Every item I have had on their menu is better than any other restaurant I have been to. I got the sesame chicken with a side of lo mein. It was made super fresh and was absolutely delicious! This is my second time coming here, the wait for the food to go is a little lengthy so don’t come if you’re in a rush, but overall it was definitely worth it for me!

Great classic Chinese food. We come here at least once a month. Portions are generous and egg drop soup is very good. See OK f you have a coupon for egg roll or a discount coupon. Try To Go since early evening is very warm with the sun facing windows or early afternoon lunch.

Very disappointed with our meal, we had 2 orders of crab cheese wontons, and 2 orders of sesame chicken and fried rice. When I called to place the order i specifically asked what came in the fried rice and I was told peas, carrots, and eggs. Our crab cheese wontons only had cream cheese, and our fried rice was only rice no veggies. The sesame chicken was adequate. When I called to ask if it was normal for the crab cheese wontons to not have any crab, I was informed by the manager that I didn’t taste the crab but it’s there and I was wrong. When I asked about the peas carrots and egg, I was told I have to ask for extra if I want any in my fried rice because even though it comes with it, they don’t put it in the fried rice. I was then told I’m the only one to have ever complained and they have never once heard of anyone having issues, so I thought I would post this here so next time they can’t tell someone else that they’ve never had a complaint ever in the history of being open. Very bad business practices will not be ordering again

The best Chinese Takeout around. Always fresh and hot, always delicious. They will customize your order if you want to add or subtract an ingredient, and they get it right every time. That is hard to come by around here! We order take out from here at least twice a month.

Usually Chen is great, but tonight the beef smells funny and the chicken is not as good as usual. Even the fried rice tastes off. The egg rolls and dumplings were good but everything else was a huge disappointment.

I dont mind waiting 15 or 20 minutes for a to go order. Im fine with that. But when the girl brings me the wrong order and tells the rest of the staff that I changed my mind (instead of admitting that she made a mistake), makes me upset. Now I not only have to wait another 20 minutes, but I can hear all the kids behind the counter saying that I changed my mind. I ordered Combination Fried Rice and Beef and Broccoli. She brought me Combination Lo Mein and Beef and Broccoli. I felt very uncomfortable while I waited. My only complaint is with the service. The food was great. The Combination fries rice had some big shrimp and they give you a lot. I was very surprised to find it also had scallops in it. Willing to give then a second chance, because the food was that good.

This is a great local spot in Rowlett. I get the lo lein noodles almost every time I go there. I love how hot it is and I put soy sauce and hot oil on top of it as thats my favorite way to eat it. I have tried the chicken, beef, shrimp and vegetable lo mein and they were all delicious.
