I need to come back and try their espresso drinks to give a completely fair review. I tried their dark roast drip coffee and it was...fair. The pastries are a little too sweet for my liking and a little oily. However, for the ambiance and lively atmosphere, and the fact that its super cute, Id come back again.
I had their enchilada pie. It was yummy. They have some books and games to use while there. They have indoor and outdoor seating. They have a few parking spots in the alley. That is a huge plus for me.
This is my favorite coffee shop, especially with the end of an era closure of Espresso Metro. Their pastries and Dark Star coffee alone are worth coming for, but everyone there is so nice, and its always maintained that old school charm that I very much miss in Sacramento.
What a find! I’m not in this area often but when I am, I will definitely get my caffeine fix here. I ordered several pastries that were all very delicious. The breakfast scone had ham and cheese and had an awesome balance of savory with a touch of sweet. Also ordered the jalapeño scone which had bacon. Also sweet and savory. The pumpkin bread was very moist with a nice rich cream cheese frosting. The chocolate chip cookie and blueberry muffin both looked good but I didn’t get a chance to taste it before they were inhaled by someone else. I ordered an iced hot chocolate because I was curious. I expected it to be chocolate milk with ice. I was wrong. It was delicious. I tried to order one at my local Starbucks with absolutely no luck! Quick service cute little place. I will definitely return next time I’m in the area.
Cant wait to visit after COVID, looks great to hangout at. Coffee is great!
Excellent local café. Great scones.
The coffee is better than I expected but still not that great. It has a good amount of seating and an interesting vibe. It has a good amount of variety when it comes to pastries
THE BREAKFAST FOCACCIA. THE BREAKFAST FOCACCIA. I freaking love the breakfast focaccia. Just moved to East Sac a few weeks ago and during the move, my wife ran around the corner to grab coffee. She also bought me breakfast and the rest was history. Coffee is great too. Good quality products. I highly recommend this place!
I dont drink coffee but my husband does and he says its the best. I go there for the eats! Favorite is strawberry white chocolate scone. Bran muffin a very close second. Really cant go wrong with any of them!
I had the quiche du jour, it was a ham Swiss quiche. Im sorry to say it was overcooked. The crust was like sawdust, well the top was overly dark. It was edible, it wasnt enjoyable.
The best coffee in town! I love their cold brew, Italian roast, and French roast. I go out of my way to get my coffee from here. The friendliest staff that make an attempt to remember your name & order. Steve, their coffee roaster is an exceptional human being that seems to love what he does. Great environment. They even have treats for my pups!
Great coffee, had the black label breakfast burrito and thought it was good!
Coffee Works thanks for perfect coffee int the town. Like place
I had high hopes for this place, with such good reviews. Ordered a cappuccino and a breakfast burrito. Cappuccino wasnt an 8oz, more like a poorly steamed latte. It was so big. Giant bubbles are very unpleasant. Breakfast burrito wasnt hot when I got it, very bland, and the salsa was definitely pace. It did not taste fresh at all
Friendly and fast, good coffee too
Best coffee in town. Has been and will be. One location One focus
Cute place, great staff, very friendly, delicious food. Not very good coffee. Ill probably still go back and try again.
Great coffee, amazing 90sish coffee shop atmosphere, and the best customer service. This place is unique and fun; everything you could want from a local Java joint.
Amazing food and service!!!! I have been frequenting coffee shops in the Sacramento area since the 80s and Coffee Works is the best! They have fresh pastries, the best breakfast burritos in town, and excellent in house roasted coffee. We are lucky to have a coffee of this caliber.
Always friendly staff. Great coffee choices and music to relax to. Tasty snack options too - a favourite with my daughter who always wants to call-in for a cinnamon swirl on our way home from school pickup!
I really dug the place! Had great vibe felt like shops Id been to in New Orleans. Super great and friendly guy behind counter. He made me smile by dancing while waiting on me to order so I danced a little too...was great experience would definitely go back!
Although I don’t come here often, I should because their breakfast and coffee is amazing. I love it! They are friendly and efficient. You should try it out.
The best fresh roasted beans in town!
Outdoor seating section was good. Great coffee cafe. Great atmosphere. Staff were nice and greeted us very well.
Excellent Excellent Excellent! Expertly crafted latte, delicious chocolate croissant, and the fellow behind the bar was knowledgeable and genuinely friendly. Very pleasant atmosphere. I have passed this place so many times in a hurry to be (wherever) and always thought I MUST stop in someday. Truly, I am glad I finally took the time...
Great coffee shop with good prices and excellent service. I am a tea drinker and they have a wonderful variety. Take a look through their pastry display and have a snack! Im a fan of the quiche and empanadas for a quick pick-me-up in the morning. Dog-friendly, but please have furry friends sit on the patio with you to enjoy the fresh air.
Got here early. Watched the moon set. Raspberry scone hot from the oven and a fresh light roast brew. A delicious morning!
Cafe food, excellent. the service was very kind and attentive. feels similar to a restaurant in new york i loved.
Really liked this place. The coffee is really goodl, reasonably priced, & its a cute little place. The baristas are also super nice & welcoming! Will come here again next time Im downtown :)
Always had a great experience here and the staff has always been wonderful and helpful
Good drinks-coffee, tea, iced tea. Muffin & scone were both very dry & had little flavor. Very nice/helpful staff member on the early a.m. shift.
Great hidden coffee shop. Gets quite a but of traffic but it will be easy to find a place so sit and study for a while. Serves a nice cappuccino. There is something about it that makes the place feel cozy. There are outlets most places so you can bring a power cable and charge your devices. Side note: there is a very appreciated hook in the bathroom for your bag so that it doesnt have to lay on the dirty floor. It is also a bit hard to find parking, most of the spots around the area warn that your car will be towed so be careful.
Coffee Works is a great place to get a fun cup of coffee without the hassle or wait. The staff is very friendly and will make great conversations.😊 Lots of seating indoor and outdoor. Whipped cream is the best on anything here. The staff will ask how hot you want your coffee, thats great so you dont just get a burning cup of coffee that you dont like. Great coffee in East Sacramento. I recommend coming here again😄
This is a nice small business that serves quality coffee in Sacramento.
Love their espresso and just plain old coffee. Super friendly and always willing to take the extra time and step to make a perfect drink. Would gladly go out of my way for them, way better than anywhere else in East Sac/Downtown. You guys are great, thank you!
Delicious and fresh pastries, variety of drinks, wonderful staff!
Cafe food, mmm, so tasty. Everyone at our table was quite pleased. The staff was very kind and attentive. Reminds me of a place in New York I loved to visit.
Classic coffee house. Roast their own beans and they make their pastries in house.
Got a breakfast burrito and a nitro cold brew, both were amazing. People were friendly, will be going here from now on
Cafe food, so fresh. Stopped in on a Tuesday. Next time Ill be back with my relatives. Prices are fair. Atmosphere is like a restaurant in Fort Worth I loved.
Love their selections of baked goods
Great food and great service. Nice atmosphere
Highly UNDER-rated, location and lack of parking make it tough to pull over. Amazing organic fair trade coffees...Their not stuffy about their knowledge either...Coffee for the rest of us!! No gimmicks no retro fitting employees and or college students taking up all the space. I guess the 50s look is at every other coffee shop in town..
One of my fav locations for tasty Cafe food. service is always awesome even when they have a full house. prices were reasonable.
Great customer service and great coffee. I came in for the first time after looking at all the information that they had on their website. I asked for a recommendation for a good coffee for French press and I am enjoying a great cup of Balthazar!! Thanks!!
Go here a lot for lunch. Their burritos are really good. Most of the staff is excellent but a few will make you not want to go back for a bit because of messed up drinks that kind of thing. Overall great shop.
Yummy coffee, baked goods and huge slices of quiche! They also roast all their own coffee!
The vibe of this place is one of the key reasons why I always come back. Ive always been impressed about how I instantly relax once I enter the door of this cafe.
Best coffee in Sacramento! Its just right. Staff are incredible! Very polite & helpful.
My neighborhood coffee joint. Its no frills, down to earth and my favorite spot for an iced coffee. Try the cold brew, its the best in town!
Good Coffee and Pastries. Enjoyable ambiance. Friendly staff. Poor parking situation. Better to walk or ride.
A bit disappointed with the pastries here - particularly after Google and Yelp users commented on how good they were. Not only was the selection disappointing (came in early afternoon on a weekday), but the chocolate chip peanut butter cookie I had was hard (almost stale seeming). That said, the service was friendly and fast.
Great coffee and very friendly staff and ... Vegan pastry options!
This is delicious coffee! Ranks right up there with places like Tupelo or Temple and likewise roasts their beans on site. Coffee Works offers one important difference... the pastries are heavenly! You cant go wrong meeting friends or colleagues here. Grab a dry cappuccino and a pear almond tart, so delicious! Theres always street parking on 34th and the 33rd Street Bistro (see me review) is right across the street. Perfect start to Friday nights.
Best coffee shop in town. Hands down. Love the aprons love the service. Always a good time
Great quick meeting spot and the lavender strawberry lemonade is great!
Cute little cafe spot. Got myself an iced chai and for my baked good I asked the cashier lady what she recommends, but she basically just listed whatever was inside the bakery case lol I ended up getting a raspberry muffin. The iced chai was alright; although there was a decent amount of chai the drink overall was a bit watered down. Raspberry muffin.....skip it lol although its fluffy its pretty bland.
Went in and got some coffee beans. Nice people, quick service and they have a number of different coffees that they import from all over the world. Great for coffe lovers.
March 19th 2020, they are still open for pick up. They have plenty of food and pastries currently as well.
Best coffee and staff in the area. Creative use of wall space, local artists. NON-CORPORATE! Loyal customer since 1983. Long live Armenia!
Small little coffee shop on Folsom with pastries, coffee and some seating. Typically not crowded and seems popular with students. Coffee was decent and overall atmosphere was relaxed and quiet.
Great coffee and snacks. Background music is nice, I like the atmosphere
Great old place, been there forever! Always nice servers, always good snacks!
Best coffee joint in Sac, hands down. Unpretentious, reasonable prices, great place to do work or chat. The fig Danish is SO GOOD.
Nice little vogue shop located right next to a laundry mat. Very friendly staff! Great cup of coffee...
Great old school coffee shop. Excellent coffee, great food options, with no pretense.
Very nice customer service and great coffee!
Nice place to meet a friend. Good food. Good coffee. Outdoor seating. Street parking only.
Good food and service?, friendly atmosphere.
Less hassle than Temple, but not quite as good either. My friend likes the scone section
Forget Starbucks. Shop localCool people, great coffee
A unique selection of tea, coffee, and pastries. Chill atmosphere. Friendly staff.
Cute coffee shop in East Sac. Only downside is the lack of parking. Customer service was quick too.
Great coffee and food. Definitely recommend.
Nice local coffee cafe
The best place on EARTH FOR coffee. Great staff, food, coffee, and reasonably priced. The atmoshere is comfy and cozy. But dont try the Darkstar. Thats mine.
My favorite cafe in Sacramento. Coffee and baristas are all super friendly and helpful. Great almond croissants too.
The best coffee shop in Sac that Ive been to. Especially like their Organic Dark Star coffee.
Very nice staff, and great coffee and pastries. Top notch breakfast burrito!
Solid coffee shop: great drinks, delicious pastries, and amole indoor seating. Parking is a bit of a pain.
Great local coffee shop. Employees are warm and always pleasant.
The coffee is good but inconsistent depending upon who is preparing specialized drinks. I only ever order a latte, but sometimes its creamy and smooth and other times I feel it like draino-strong. That said, this is the only coffee shop with a really good selected of baked goods. I think there is not ONE SINGLE THING worth eating at Starbucks (or Peets for that matter), but Coffee Works has actually good muffins, croissants, pastries, cakes and treats. They donate leftovers to a charitable outfit at the end of the day, which is nice. Friendly staff and a good number of tables. Terrible parking, though. Very limited.
Very creative! Loved the variety of pumpkin goodies celebrating the fall and All Hallows Eve. Excellent espresso, too!
Nice laid back, friendly atmosphere with good coffee and pastries. Ample bike racks, for those who ride. Free wi-fi. Speed tested @ 2.18 down/2.39 up on a Saturday morning.
A good alternative to the chain coffee cafes
The coffee and carrot cake have great taste but one of the ladies wasnt friendly but was friendly to the guy after me. Smh
I hesitate to recommend this coffee shop for fear you will all go there and eat all the pastries. They make an ecstatic eclair and a flaky pastry called a Kouign-amann which is like a thing designed personally for me - imagine a croissant, dusted with sugar, filled with custard, forced into a ramekin and then baked again. Mmm.The coffee is very good too - they have three levels of roast, which for someone who intensely dislikes the carbonized bitter residue that most Americans think is good coffee, is perfect.Friendly staff, Gorgeous pastries, good coffee.
Great coffee, great baked goods, and a wonderful staff!
This place was roasting coffee locally before we knew what Starbucks was. Great coffee, local owed for decades.
Good prices, good food. We have breakfast here, it was enough to keep us till lunch
They have board few to play while you wait for your coffee to reach a reasonable temperature
Best pastries, always fresh coffee, #loveatfirsttaste
Super cute place and delicious coffee
The pastries are outstanding! This shop is a clean, fun meeting place.
Pretty good Columbian gold with a smooth taste. Coming back for more.
The place is a great local hang out. The espresso is sub par, but everyone loved their coffee drinks.
Nice place with good food options to accompany your drinks
