At first I was a bit skeptical about this place because I thought $10 entrance fee could not be worth it. However the collection of cars is huge, the panels are informative and you can learn a bit of the history of the car and about mechanics, from its invention to recent days, advances and curiosities, all with a very pedagogic distribution. It is also cool for kids. Overall highly recommended.
Wow!!!What a very very nice car museum. Brought my husband here for good birthday and he really enjoyed it. We have a one year old that we brought with us and he got to sit in some of them to make Christmas pictures.Next time we will book a tour since my husband and I both had questions as we walked through. Very nice facility - highly recommended.
It was really nice. We attended a charity event for the Front Street Animal Shelter and had a great time, lots of cool cars!
Situated along the scenic Sacramento River, the California Automobile Museum is an expansive facility showcasing more than 160 classic cars. This museum aims to preserve and share automobile history so, during a visit, you’ll get to admire beautiful cars and learn the history behind them.Hot rods, muscle cars, race cars, and early models are just some of the cars included in the collection. Many of them are on loan, so the exhibits change from time to time. Guided tours are available.
Dont forget to play the Jukebox by the main entrance!! .25 cents for 3 songs- We paid $50 for 5 adults, great car museum to spend about 1 hour looking at. Lot’s of classics mixed with some muscle and a few Italian exotics. Some notable concept cars and race cars featured.-Only thing would be that they should look into having custom t shirts for merchandise. I really wanted to buy something after going through the tour, but there wasn’t much on apparels.- getting there was a but tricky, try not to miss the entrance on freeway or you’ll have to go out far for u-turn. And be aware of “One Way Only” roads.
A terrific place when we went there and could not think that everything would be so interesting and informative. we spent more than 2.5 hours there and enjoyed it a lot. our 8 year old son especially liked the cars in which one could sit and drive. a very large assortment of cars presented allows us to study how the automotive industry developed. beautiful cars of the last century and modern cars. worth a visit you will not regret it.
Found this on a random search of things to do in Sacramento. And wow was it worth it. Claude saw us walk in a gave us a guided tour throughout. He was wonderful friendly and knowledgeable. My Dad said it was his best birthday gift. Thank you for the wonderful experience and memories.
For years I wanted to check out the California Automobile Museum, it’s less than 3 miles from my house. Finally went for a work luncheon and had a blast! Loved the docent tour! The cars were so fun to look at! Even some you can sit on. If you’ve been debating visiting, just go! Perfect afternoon family activity. (Especially on a rainy day!)
They have a bunch of cool cars! There is some information on how parts of the vehicles work. There are many cars older than 100 years. Beautiful machines shining under the lights. If you like cars this is for you. As there are a lot of vehicles you might get tired of slowly walking through them. It may be a kind of maze but amusing. And the personal is willing to tell you interesting facts. Ask them!
Stopped by there today at a date and time it should have been open, the open sign was out front and the lights were on but there was no one around. We tried calling their number but there was no answer. Google even said they were still open but it definitely wasn’t.
Drove up from Modesto and was not disappointed! Felt the entry cost was quite reasonable. Be aware, the facility temperature tends to vary a reasonable amount, so if it is cold outside bring a jacket, and if its warm exoect it or be fairly warm inside.Clearly laid out, and its very evident the cars are loved. Docents are very knowledgeable and full of cool little facts about each of the vehicles and it is fun to hear. Sent lots of pics to my dad while walking the cavity and it brought back a lot of memories for him. Thanks for making his day from 2k miles away guys.
If you are a car guy, or gal this is a good place to visit at least once. Went here with the squad and took some pictures of my girl for insta.
Museum has more then just cars. A lot of interaction with displays and educational experiences . But I came for the cars. Cars range from the 1900s to today. To the cars you can get into four pictures and some of the displays have interactivity to them with parts you can turn or touch. Parking is free. The museum is a five-minute drive from Old Town Sacramento so if youre in the area I would suggest going
One of the most unique auto museums in Northern California. Great collection of classic cars and knowledgeable staff. Worth visiting in spring or fall when the weathers nice.
Great cars are displayed here. They also have cars for sale. Staff is well informed. Love the tire on near the rest room...it is a great workout.
Went to check out this museum with my Dad during their station wagon and camper display. Had a bunch of cool wagons that brought back lots of memories. Many other cool cars that are on display that arent part of the seasonal / rotating displays.
Really cool collection of cars, from rare vintage, to muscle, to more modern-classics. We stopped by during the Front Street Animal Brewfest and it was nice to get out of the heat and look around.
Here is presented the best of Americas Iron. For over a century, four wheels, a few pistons and a couple of accessories (like a steering wheel and brakes) made life easier. Starting with these basic ingredients, entrepreneurs, designers and engineers added sheet metal and created speed. This remarkable museum contains many contraptions, the successful ones and the failures. Restorations are excellent. Some you can touch. Others speak for themselves. The Docents love their cars and show respect for the engineers and assembly line workers that made these miracles possible. Good display of alternatly powered vehicles. Easy free parking. Wheelchair accessible including bathrooms.
Great place, I enjoyed it and so did my 13yr old son. Small but well worth it, especially loved the motorcycles.
Huge collection of vehicles. I am really impressed!
Excellent service, and a great place for a day trip.Knowledgeable staff and each car having its own story to tell really makes this place great.
Friendly and knowledgeable staff. Museum is open (April 2021) and not a lot of visitors. Its fun and interesting to see old cars.
Wonderful classic cars. Knowledgeable docents who can provide a tour.
Wonderful mix of cars and knowledgeable docents
Really nice location, good exhibits (so many cars) and very informative docents. Excellent place to hold an event.
Great visit, the docents were really knowledgeable
Definitely going back again, Nice quality time with my little man who like cars, especially the blue one !!!
The knowledge of the docent volunteers is fantastic and their enthusiasm for the cars and history is contagious
Awesome place a lot of cool old school vehicles GTOS T-BIRDS
Excellent selection, Love the private tour, very knowledgeable. The inside stories.
Im not 1 for cars but my husband wanted to check it and it was actually truly amazing adventure.
Good museum!
Just a heads up there is a sign posted on the door that they will be closed starting Nov 13 until further notice.. someone should try letting google know so nobody else drives there and gets disappointed.. lol
Fun, lots of cars
I enjoy this place enough that I generally will visit once every month or two. Im very into cars and its great having a nice auto museum so close. They have a rotating display they change out, I believe once a month but I dont remember for sure, so there is always something new to see, or new history to learn in addition to the cool cars that are there long term. They always have different cars for sale too, which are cool to look at and dream about buying. The staff is very friendly, and the docents are knowledgeable and passionate about cars. They have old automotive magazines and literature for sale!
Very good visit. Approximately 160 cars on display.
Great collection of classic, famous, and concept cars. Definitely a must see if you visit Sacramento.
Pretty cool, alot of history. Some bad a$$ cars!
Awesome collection
I was fortunate enough to have a work meeting at the CA Auto Museum. Meeting was in large room capable of hosting banquets or large meetings. After we were able to view the amazing selection of cars. By far the best collection of old vehicles and memorabilia for miles. Its an event the entire family will enjoy. Docents are very knowledgeable. Several really rare old cars. Like the original horseless carriage! Very worthwhile if you like car museums. Located close to old downtown so very convenient if you are down there exploring.
This place is amazing! Very minimal fee to enter, friendly and knowledgeable staff and volunteers! There so so many automobiles and detailed information to go along with them. Clean but outdated restrooms. I love that you can have private parties as well! We will definitely try to return!
Lots of cool old cars
As a surprise for my wife, who is much more interested in cars than I am, I found this place almost by happenstance. The volunteers are extremely friendly and knowledgeable, and my wife is now super excited by the thought of learning how to drive a Model T. Classes are available via their website. This is a fantastic snapshot of automobile history; incredibly well planned and very educational. We were especially impressed with the level of involvemenf of the local clubs as well as the availability of some beautiful classics for sale.
This is a great niche museum, especially if you like things that usually have four wheels! I was pleasantly surprised with its creative and educational displays, making it visually appealing as well as informative. Its really a walk through automotive history. Most vehicles are show quality so no touching allowed but a couple of them can be sat in for hands on photo opportunities. Admission fees are reduced for various age groups making it more affordable. The gift shop offers trinkets and gift items plus an array of used automotive manuals. Its a must visit destination!
Some nice displays and great photo opportunities because you can sit in two cars. Excellent clean energy vehicle section but why hasnt Tesla donated a car? There are some problems with ventilation since they have cars for sale they run them frequently causing toxic stinky air quality problems because its not properly ventilated. Also some noise pollution from the movie they play.
This Facility HAS NO HEAT! So, if the temperature is 45 degrees outside- the Museum is also 45 Degrees! So, if going in the winter time, be sure and bring multiple layers of clothing. If you don’t, you are guaranteed to be pretty miserable. Aside from the winter cold, the Museum is great! The Docents do a great job. I limited to 3 stars, due to the climate control issues.
Such a lovely day. The California Automobile Museum has a great sample of the automobile history. From steam, electric and gas, theres a bit of everything. It was a pleasure to spend the afternoon enjoying these awesome cars. The staff is also very nice. I was fortunate to have Ann to guide me through the museum and explaining me the history and evolution of these cars. Thanks Ann.
Let me start off by saying that the automobile museum has lots and lots of amazing cars old and new. The reason I gave it a 4 star is that there were not a lot of staff around to help give information and describe what we were looking at. I would have liked for it to be a little more interactive for children. I have a 5 year old nephew who LOVES cars and was so excited to go see them. The down side was that I felt it was not very kid friendly as he wanted to touch all the cars, and get inside them which I kept having to remind him he couldnt due. They do have one or two that they allow photos on, but for a car kid that was not enough. While we were there they were fixing an older vehicle and drove it around the museum which he thought was awesome. This is defiantly a place for older children who have the ability to control themselves.
Went here awhile ago. detailed exhibits and a huge amount of cars from all different decades at a pretty cheap price. would recommend if youre even a little bit interested in cars, and especially if you have kids who are into cars, they will love it
My kids and i had a great time viewing all the beautiful cars they have here and all the staff is super friendly i love it
What a fun experience! Loved seeing all the different makes and models. Cool photo opps, too! If youre a car lover, this place will be money and time well spent. Highly recommend!
Lots of interesting knowledge by the Docents.
Super nice ppl and good collection
Though this used to be Ford automobiles only and now has many different types of automobiles. And little Snippets of their early history makes the place totally fascinating. Did you know Hitler commissioned the Volkswagen and wanted to provide it to the German people?
Thanks, it was priceless to SEE what cars were like in the past. Especially that Morgan.Autocycle like a Slingshot!
Car and Truck donations used to be up to the highest bidder. Somehow, they are now diverted to pet car dealerships and/or buyers. Not an open bidding process. Understandable that some 1976 and newer must be sold to non California due to emissions. Not understandable about a new policy of relegating sales to business partners. Please sell again to the general public for transparency and fairness.Next thing, if you are worried about negative feedback on places like Ebay, just list all of the imperfections and you will be fine. Dont let some upper management person convince you that an auto should sell for something. NADA and the others are buffoons and merely part of the inflated prices that only exist at national auctions.Great people and a great museum. Please sell your donors great too. Thank you so much for listening.
Fun museum with old cars.
Nice museum, pretty informative, big selection of old cars . Would be interesting for kids
Nice cars and friendly staff :)
Always a great time
This is an amazing museum. We went here to kill time before a different event we were attending in Sacramento. The tour guide was so nice, funny and knowledgeable. They are having some roof issues causing the cars to not be in their normal spots. But we will definitely be back for another visit when they get everything all fixed. Wonderful place to take the kids!
This place is amazing!!!! I have gone to so many places and museums in Sacramento but this was by far my favorite and I am not even that interested in cars lol! Great place. I highly recommend it💖
The best cars Ive ever seen! Like Doc Hudson From the disney pixar film Cars.
Great museum for all gear heads alike.
This place is AMAZING! It has such a large variety of cars from the turn of the 20th century to every decade in it. It’s SO cool to see how cars have developed, and they even let you sit in some of the cars which is super awesome. I would totally recommend this place to spend some time in when you’re visitng Sacramento!
Went to the Car Corral to see what was available for sale. The sales staff were rude and very immature. I will not be going back. The next time I want to go to a Car Museum, Ill go to Reno to a real car museum. The museum lost one of its greatest assets when Mark (Sales Manager) Left to find greener pasturesThe worst thing is that I was going to consign 5 vehicles to the sales floor.Glad I left when I did.
Great collection and guides are absolutely awesome. Ive got a great tour about the history of automobiles from the earliest models up until 80s.
Packed alot of stuff into a small area, I had fun, but I wish theyd let you sit in the cars for the price. Ill most likely come back.
Awesome museum!!!
This is a great place to hold your next event. Their renovated event center is superb!
Took My 6 year old there from the doctors to celebrate him being free from leukemia he loves cars especially fast ones. {had never been there before} The Docent was very nice and pleasant The docent told my son he could get on the fire truck and turn the siren mine and the docents attention was distracted by another person. A volunteer yelled at my kid for being on the vehicle he had permission to be on made him cry then mouthed off to me. I will not be back ever! I had to calm down to write this review. Big man yelling at a 6 year old cancer survivor you should be proud of yourself pos
I have to voice my passion for your kindness giving support to those people that should have guidance on this important matter.
It was a very cool scene. Helped kill some time and show off really clean cool cars as well!
It was a fun and unique experience. I’m not a car person and I enjoyed it. I suggest coming during a special event.
Great cars and lots of good info. Plan on a few hours if you are interested in Auto history.
A must go SEE! Brings back great memories. Thank you all for being so courteous and helpful.
If you like cars and their history - this place is for you.
Awesome place! John took us around and told us about the cars and history. Definitely recommend!!
An amazing place. The staff are very friendly and are so very passionate. Thet have mechanics who restore old cars, all of them are volunteers. The exhibits are all in immaculate condition. Each exhibit has a story behind it and it also good to know the history of the car industry. This museum is associated with NARM, hence my wife and I didnt need to pay the admission fee. As an added bonus, the museum has a huge free parking lot. I even ended up learning a little bit about Governor Brown and the car he used. I would say there are about 15 cars that you can purchase as well. There is gift shop where you can purchase old magazines and other items.
Great place to visit, with a very friendly staff!
Cheap simple fun. Plenty of information on the cars there, activities for kids, and helpful staff
If you are a car fanatic you should come to this museum, it has good collections of classic cars, the place is well maintained and you dont have to pay much.
This museum has a wide variety of automobiles displayed in a large warehouse. Each car has a sign that identifies the make and model and explains any historical significance. They have made an effort to make the displays attractive and appealing, and the vehicles are organized chronologically starting with steam-powered cars and horseless carriages and proceeding to more recent sportscars, racecars and hot rods. The museum also has special exhibits that change, so if you visit more than once youre likely to see something different each time. When we visited in August 2018, there was an exhibit about hot rod customizers, including work by Sam Barris, John DAgostino, Dale Hollenbeck, Bill Cushenberry, and Rich Sides. There are also some educational displays that explain the mechanics, like how internal combustion engines and fuel cells operate. A play area is provided for the kids. The staff was very friendly and professional and there were docents roaming the exhibit hall to answer any questions.
Great cars for adults to see as well as interesting interactived for kids. The CAM keeps getting better.
Great museum that mainly features Ford. Website says open until 6, but really closes at 5pm
Had a chance to talk with a real nice group of guys was invited to come back as a guest. Looking forward to returning
Track history of automobile from electric and hydrogen vehicles all the way to steam cars. People working here are very nice and knowledgeable.
Id give this place ten stars if I could. Definitely worth the price of admission for anyone into car stuff =)
Good mix of automobiles and I especially like the fact there are certain cars that youre allowed to touch & sit inside.
Good visit today BUT It Was too hot in the warehouse, We had to hurry
Very friendly and knowledgeable staff.Working museum with extensive collection of classic cars.Must see for gearheads
