First impression, great customer service. There are some unknowns when it comes to the repair job. Carol mapped everything out detailing their process and issues that may arise. So, we left the special hat in their apparently capable hands knowing ahead of time what challenges may occur. No surprises, genuine compassion, and full honesty.Impression when we left the store, AMAZING customer service!It will be 4-6 weeks before we get the finished product so Ill have to update more then. Either way, theyll have our future business.

I just left JW Hats after the best experience! I unfortunately didn’t catch the name of the wonderful woman that helped me, but she was fabulous. I never thought I could be someone to wear hats; I’ve never found anything that just works for me. However, she was extremely patient, knowledgeable, and was able to figure out my style quickly. Together we created a beautiful, custom hat that I cannot wait to wear! This experience is something I’ll remember for a long time, and the hat is something I’ll absolutely cherish for years to come.

I have designed and Purchased three hats now and my wife has had one made, and we love every one of them. The staff take their time and explain every step of the way so you end up with the hat you want. Designing the hat is a fun learning process, I highly recommend the experience. my advice is go in and see what its about. leave the mass produced S,M,L off the shelf hats behind, and get one that will last you more than a lifetime. Ive literally been in the store when a customer comes in to have their grandfathers hat cleaned and fitted for them. I highly recommend JW Custom Hats, so much so my wife is thinking about what she wants next.

Excellent attention to detail. Lots of measurements. Fair prices. I was however, not expecting a 4 week wait time for reshaping of the crowns. Im guessing that speaks to their quality of work. We will see. Highly recommend.

JW is an outstanding place. I spent about 2 hours in the store going over options for a hat I loved. I’m from out of town and wanted add some custom details to an already made hat. They were able to get it done the same day! It was a small fee but their customization takes 4-6 so this was OUTSTANDING! The workers are so delightful and helped me to create a hat I fell in love with.

I celebrated Pioneer Day, my heritage and my birthday by making my own custom cowboy hat at JW Custom Hats. It was so much fun to pick out the crown and brim styles and then to get hands-on making my own hat from a blank hat body. Started with a 10X beaver / rabbit blend (fur comes from Russia) and worked it through the process of shaping, sanding, smoothing, hardening, cutting and final shaping. It turned out to be exactly what I wanted!To make it even more cool, there is a line of history that I love. The equipment used in this shop can be traced back to the original hat makers who brought their trade over from England and came across the plains with the Pioneers. The table I worked my hat on dates back to the 1880s or earlier. The story I am sticking with is it could have been the table where my Great-Great Grandfathers hat was made that he wore in the famous photo of the driving of the Golden Spike.Happy Pioneer Day! Im really impressed. This is a great little custom hat make with some awesome product. If you want a good had that will last you years, Id come here! They can even see a hat broom or do a full cover to a riding helmet.

I wanted to alter the brim of my fedora. I had to wait a month (backlogged) but when I got it back, they worked with me to get it the way I wanted it. Nice hats there! Ill get my next one from them!

I have a late 1940’s Stetson Open Road. I liked the shape, but I was really wanting a Stetson Stratoliner that isn’t made anymore. JW Customs reshaped the crown like the Stratoliner for me and stretched the size just a tad to fit my head better. It’s perfect. I’m very grateful.

Stopped by to see what they had i was looking for a Stetson Gamblers Chocolate Hat but they Customise there hats for you Its a little bit much for me but its a great place to learn and the gentleman is super nice he shows you how to make them and he has all of the old machinery made when his dad used to make them Great place to visit and to get a custom hat made ! Great little shop that will make you any custom hat you want from their own selections to your own designs. Willing to work with the customer and very helpful with any questions. They have some really cool designs as well for anyone looking for an awesome hat.

This place is super nice with a clean storefront and if you ask you can also receive a tour about how they do it (kind of like a secret menu, ish). They provide high quality hats even if you buy the low quality ones and put a lot of time and effort into it. Be prepared to wait a couple of days, though for it, the shaping and stuff takes time. I really recommend it for anyone who wants a hat for any occasion.

Raymond really cares that every customer is satisfied. Brought in a Stetson to be cleaned and reshaped and was not happy with original work but Raymond made it right. I was so happy with it I ordered a custom hat that I love.

We were treated to a tutorial of the hat making process, a quick tour of the work shop, and personal assistance in selecting the right custom hat. By his own admission JW was still learning how to make custom hats but the ones he made for me are exceptionally great hats. They fit me perfectly and are a tremendous value for the cost. The same hats I had JW make for me would of cost you $1000 or more in place like Santa Fe or Denver. Unfortunately JW left us in November of 2017 (before he and I could go on a New Mexico road trip). I loved my visits with him over the years and miss him. It remains to be seen whether or not the new owners keep his high standards. Theyll cost you a little bit more but if theyre made well they would still be a bargain.

A lost art in todays world. I brought in an Outback that had an elastic, crumpled up, uncomfortable, that I wouldnt wear because of, lining in it. They transformed it into a leather lined, made to fit my head perfectly, my favorite hat again masterpiece. If you have an old hat thats been handed down, or hat that has one of the for mentioned elastics, this is where you go.

Owner very nice Guy enjoyed the visit. I bought a hat about 25 years ago from them, its nice to know I can take it back and get cleaned and shaped again. Big different from a hat and a custom hat.

I never expected to find a decent custom hat store in Salt Lake City. Yes, I am showing my prejudice towards big cities, where dudes still wear hats. NYC, Chicago, Philadelphia, L.A., are cities with hat stores, but even urban metropolis are seeing hats stores evaporate as the owners get older. Thus, my shock and awe after walking into JW Custom Hats.Brennan at JW knew his stuff, and they’re resizing and reshaping a few vintage fedoras for me. However, I am a hat monster, and eyed a beauty on sale I just had to have. It was too nice to resist, and I plucked down the dough without giving it a second thought. I knew what I would pay for that hat (In NYC we called it a “sky.”) in Chicago. It was a steal at JW. SLC is truly fortunate to have one of America’s great hat emporiums.

My fiance paid over $100 for a hat that was too small, bad service, and an even worse attitude from the owner himself. Save yourself some hassle and go somewhere else.

I asked if they could fix a cowboy hat I had and they said to bring it in. I brought it in and they said they couldnt fix it. It was a fairly minor repair.
