I was in and out and cant wait for the next time when I can spend time actually looking at each and every book. Id love to look at the wall of staff picks more in depth than I did, for sure. The staff was friendly and helpful. The vibe here is very positive and nerd friendly

This is an absolutely tremendous bookstore and should definitely be on the destination list for any bookish travelers visiting San Diego. They are genre specific with new books as well as novelty items and the store is beautiful. Open, clean, and well organized. The staff was very helpful and I visited multiple times during my stay. Will come back again!

MG is the single most amazing, customer service focused indie bookstore I have ever been to. If you love mysteries, sci fi, urban fantasy, paranormal, or fantasy adventure genres, this is the store made just for you! Everyone that works there knows the books and the authors intimately and can make suggestions of other authors to read based on just a few of your favorites. And lets not forget to mention that they have the best author signings around! Oh, and various monthly book clubs that meet...

Everyone is super friendly and nice, and the book selection is fantastic. With the most recent expansion, the kids corner is comfy with a table and a lil besn bag to hang out in. Theres something for everyone.

Mysterious Galaxy is my favorite bookstore. It’s my favorite place to find something completely new I’ve never heard of while also grabbing something familiar. The book sellers all have great recommendations.I unfortunately did not get a chance to see their new location in Point Loma before COVID shut downs, but their team has kept up their amazing customer service with their online and over the phone orders.

My signed preorder of Brandon Sandersons Rhythm of War arrived on time and in pristine condition. Upon purchasing the book, the store was quick with processing my order and had good communication throughout. Very professional. 10/10, would order from this location again.

There is not enough good things to say about this store. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable. From some one who worked in a book store for more than 10 years I can with confidence these folks are pros. Plus great independent artist sell their goods here too.

Our favorite bookstore! The staff is friendly and helpful and always have great recommendations when you are in a reading rut. They host fun events, like author events and signings, book clubs, and D&D campaigns. If you havent checked out this place you need to do it. Keep in mind they are moving to a new location in January.

I LOVE this place, as soon as you walk in you can see that this is not the typical bookstore. Reviews and drawings left on books in notecards detailing and recommending everything was just a great experience. They also have regular guest authors and signings from Big Names! My favorite new bookstore by far!

A bookstore full of all my favorite genres: sci-fi, horror, and mystery. Such a cute place, they have great events happening all the time. I bought a Mysterious Galaxy t-shirt the first time I visited because the design was perfect!

This is a wonderful bookstore. Every time I visit San Diego, I stop by and buy a few books. The store emphasis is on Science Fiction, Mysteries and Thillers which suits me fine. There is a special young adult section as well. The store is inviting and well laid out. Many of the books have personalized information cards that give add information. They also carry many signed editions. Side note, among my purchases this time, was a signed copy of Neal Stephensons latest. It might be possible to get books cheaper elsewhere, if people dont support this store, they will have lost a true treasure. Highly recommended.

This is a great independent bookstore! They focus on SF/Fantasy and mystery. In addition to a great selection of books for adults, they also have really good children and YA selections. Lastly, the staff is extremely knowledgeable and are able to make extremely useful selections. We are lucky to have them in San Diego!

Great selection! The traditional book store is a soon to be extinct location. I love this little gem. My kid struggles with reading what is expected for his age and this store had opened him to new possibilities. Love love love it.

This place is really nice. It has all the latest books, but also some off the wall, hard to find works. Very friendly staff and nice local joint. Well worth a visit. I buy from here before hitting Borders, because I like the small business, smart and friendly feeling I get each time I enter the store.

A cozy nook of a book store, it smells like.... books~Very knowledgeable staff and honestly you can just get lost in its tiny confines chasing book covers, authors, and genres walking back and forth!They have mixed media available such as audio books and certain limited edition audio books on LP.The majority of their stacks are arranged floor to just above eye level, and the taller stack are floor to ceiling. Recommendations by staff are solid, can’t go wrong as long as you have a good idea what you are interested in!They also offer a small line of apparel and canvas bags.

Book Lovers Paradise! This place amazes me, granted I live in San Diego so it doesnt take much! They have an amazing collection of books about art, and the prices are more than reasonable. I would think a grad student could get text books here, its that amazing. They also had adorable little shirts for kids with original covers of ironic books. loved it. Cant wait to visit CA again and spend hours browsing the books here!

I love this bookstore and the employees! Everyone is friendly and knowledgeable. If they don’t have it they can order it for you. In the days of point-click-deliver, I am glad that this place still exists. They have turned me on to many new authors. I have gone to several signings and had actual face-to-face time with some of my favorite authors like; Brandon Sanderson, Jonathan Maberry and Joseph Finder.

Best specialty bookstore ever. If they dont have it, theyll get ASAP. I have never been disappointed. Always happy to pay retail to support them. Plus the staff is so knowledgeable--they can always recommend a few authors I dont know if I give them the name of an author I have been reading. The recommendations are always on target. Fantastic SciFi/Fantasy bookstore, especially considering that those are the genres Im primarily interested in. They have consistent author signings, special editions, signed editions, and a nice t-shirt and miscallenous selection. You might find some cool goodies from your favorite books! Everything is a bit on the pricey side though.

While a tad tricky to find, this is an AMAZING book store. The staff is engaging and personable - even though we just were stopping by they made us feel like a part of their community. We plan to come back again, online or in person.

This is THE local bookstore of San Diego. Nerds rejoice! Every book you could want, with chatty and knowledgeable workers, and authors coming in every week for signings and events (even big NYT bestsellers!). I really loved this place.Though it looks like its off the beaten path a bit, its actually not hard (or time consuming) to get there.

I love the selection of books and the way that theyre organized, however the genres of books are more oriented towards suspense and adventure. The people there are also super nice and they hold book/series related or themed parties where everyone is welcome. I also have a good time when Im there.

I love to support the little guys when I can. The ownership here really cares about their customers, and responds well to requests. The staff doesnt always greet you when you walk in or pester you with questions while you look, but they make sure you know they are there when you need it. I prefer it this way and find the overt customer service in a bookstore to be over the top. Lastly, the bookstore is dedicated to Fantasy/SciFi/Horror which is the main reason I go to the bookstore, so it takes away all the other distractions. Oh and the live author signings is an added bonus. Even if you miss the signing they usually sell a few extra signed books.

I dont live in San Diego but whenever I visit, going to Mysterious Galaxy is a must ! Possibly its a good thing for my wallet that they arent any closer, but I found out they do online orders to, so that may have a bad end. Particularly like their in-store events where they bring in great writers from all over the country for readings and signings.

Mysterious Galaxy bookstore is a special little bookstore tucked away into Clairemont. For us lovers of fantasy and sci-fi, this is an excellent location to pick up, meet and greet authors and enjoy store events. The shop staff is wonderful, polite, helpful and absolutely LOVE what they do. I cant recommend Mysterious Galaxy enough.
