Cat cafe and coffee shop in the heart of downtown with adoptable cats. Be advised, if you want to see the cats (or even be in the same room as the cats) there is a $15/hour charge. As far as their menu goes, they have a few specialty coffees in addition to a more traditional coffee selection. I tried the calico - a caramel, vanilla, and hazelnut latte which was yummy. However, I’m not giving this place 5 stars because overall my customer experience was not great since the front staff were not very welcoming or helpful.
We decided to drop by and check out this Cat Cafe, and it was well worth our time. You have to make a reservation for an hour timeframe ahead of time before you show up. Once you get there your ticket in gives you the ability to have 1 beverage or morsel to eat from their fridge of goodies. Once its your time to enter, you can go inside and interact with the kitties. The cats we met were adorable and were fun to cuddle with. You can adopt any of them, and the staff will help you in that regard. I recommend visiting this place. We have gone to one in San Francisco and now San Diego, and both were great!
I had seen this cat cafe on tv many years ago, that during my visit, I had to stop by. I was let in without prior reservations due to a slow day. $15 for an hour, with one free menu item. I ordered a vanilla latte, nothing special, it was perfect for this cat bonding moment. I guess I was expecting to be holding a cat, but rule is, don’t pick them up… I own a few felines myself so, that was especially challenging. Overall, I loved being around these rescues, was hard not to consider adopting… but for a first time experience, was proud of the self restraint. Non cat owners, prepare to be tempted to the max, cute kitties lie in this cat haven. You’ve been warned, but I do recommend!
Rude girl behind the counter told me there was dairy in the chocolate syrup without even checking (I checked the bottle, there wasn’t any dairy) I asked for a frappe she gave me an iced mocha. Very bland, nothing special.Creepy guy in the cat room the whole time who made me feel pretty rushed and unwelcome.Way too expensive for this poor quality in service and environment, I felt it could’ve been cleaner for the cats there was feces or something on one of their toy stands.Had a reservation for 5 but only 4 could attend. I tried calling a day before and went to voicemail. I tried calling the morning of and finally reached someone who told me I couldn’t receive any form of refund or credit for the person not able to attend due to me “not calling” the day before. They then told me to email cat cafe to see if they could see past it and I didn’t even get any type of response or apology. I paid around $85 for 4 people to have their coffee made incorrectly. Would’ve been better off hitting Starbucks then taking a walk through the animal shelter.EDIT: I leave reviews to help people decide what businesses they choose to support, not to get a refund after I already tried to get my refund. It’s very unprofessional for a business rep to ignore customer complaints and state they will continue their unfair, greedy, and rude way of providing service instead of understanding that reviews are for alerting other persons not to waste their time or money and to help owners to improve their business. I wish I would have read their reviews before because I’m not the only person who felt this way. The response from the cat cafe is a perfect example of how they treat their guests and how it felt to be inside the shop.
Coffee was so-so, but we went for the cats! We made a reservation (highly recommended; it was fully booked all day and walk-ins were turned away) and spent an hour petting friendly cats! The cats are adoptable from the Rescue House and the friendly representative from the shelter was there to tell us about all of the cats and answer our questions. They had about 11 cats the day we went, but only about 7 of them came out to play (although some just wanted to nap). There were 8 people there, so a few too many for everyone to engage with a cat.
A cute experience for kids and animal lovers. Good food and coffee (excellent soy latte). The cats were fun and the kids really enjoyed the experience. The only negative was it was tricky to find and many of the public parking lots in the area are $25 for the day. Arrive early to find cheaper parking!
Its a cat cafe! Hard to have a bad time here if you love cats! :)It was mostly nap time when we visited. The kitties have a spacious area with lots of snoozing spots and an open area with toys for playtime. The staff showed care for each cat and could tell us a lot about each ones personality traits or medical concerns. Good times!
Its a cat hotel where you, the paying customer, are treated below the staff and the cats. I understand the business model, but for average working class folks who make around $15 an hour after taxes youd be better off going to balboa park cat sanctuary to feed the local strays than pay for this experience. If they pledge to read their customers a little better and treat them accordingly instead of treating everyone like idiots who have never seen a cat before Ill change the review to 3 stars. In this economy I cant see the value in the price for the experience.
I have been to this location once before a few years ago but Im happy I visited again. The owner is professional, straightforward, and kind. The coffee was yummy and the two baristas were kind as well. The cats were in excellent health and very happy. I appreciated the environment the business has set as the cats were happy and it was very obvious all staff care deeply about the business. I will be returning :)
It was a lovely experience! Its $15 to get an item from their menu and an hour with the cats. Only a few people are allowed in at a time so the cats are not overwhelmed. This also makes it a more relaxing experience for the people :)I walked in at 10am on a Saturday, and my partner and I were lucky that they were able to squeeze us in. The people who came in right after us werent so lucky, so I recommend making reservations online. The staff was generally friendly and firm about our boundaries with the cats, which I really appreciate. Its clear that they care about the cats comfort. But they also let us know which cats are happier being petted and played with, and generally all of the kitties there were very chill and comfortable with attention. There was also a lady there from the Rescue House who could tell us more about each cat and helped a man start the adoption process right there!Customer service at the front could be improved - there were two staff members who were both busy handling the drink orders and the admission, and it took a little bit of time for them to finish making drinks before they could attend to new people coming in. Maybe separating the responsibilities and having one person for each task, or adding another staff member at the front, would help.Overall the experience was good and we really enjoyed our visit!
Always a supporter of animal focused establishments, this one was ok. I would not recommend bringing children under the age of 12. While I understand there need to be rules to protect our furry friends and they most certainly need to be followed, there could have been a less uncomfortable and oppressive attitude.
Very enjoyable experience at The Cat Cafe! The customer service from the staff was friendly and helpful with getting to know the business, selections from the cafe and getting to know the cats. We enjoyed looking through some of the fantastic cat inspired art in the cafe portion of the cafe. The cafe does a good service for helping to find homes for the cats in need of adoption. The staff are very helpful in explaining which kitties are available for adoption and those that make the cafe their home. Overall, my friends and I enjoyed The Cat Cafe and highly recommend it to everyone.
Such a great and fun place to enjoy a moment with a cat. Plenty of snacks and beverages to enjoy. Reservations are recommended. We were able to secure one the night before, but I noticed someone walk in and schedule a time for later in the day. Loved it and cant wait to go back.
The cats were so cute. Great place and friendly staff. If you go be sure to tell the cats I said pspspspsps
This is hands down one of the best cat cafes I’ve ever been to. The owner is really chill and takes great care of the cats. The cafe is always clean and bright and welcoming. Their new location is fabulous. And the cats are (almost) all adoptable! What more could you ask for?
So much fun! Perfect place to get plenty of cat play time. $8 gets you in, all my with a complimentary cafe menu item. The attendants are very informative and the space interactive. The shop partners with a shelter to help the cats find forever homes. There are some ground rules to follow to make sure both the guests and the cats have a wonderful experience.
Havent been here in awhile but if you want a fun outing with the coolest cats (wait I have the coolest cats :) and you can ADOPT them as well!!! So you can socialize with the cats to see if they fit with the 👪! I wanted to bring them all home naturally! Lol Parking is a little tight around the area, but make sure you feed the meter enough. The parking patrols are demons!!! They harass me all the time when I help the homeless on Thursdays.
Went late in the day, Cats pretty exhausted. Not allowed to hold the cats. I think I get to lay with cats more just walking around my neighborhood. Protective iss one thing, but over protective kind of ruined the experience. Have adopted/ rescued all my cats throughout my life... this would not be a great way to do it. Coffee was delicious, Julian (staff member) was great!
It’s such a pleasant experience. I went during covid, and they’re making sure they’re able to safely run the cat cafe. Making a reservation, especially now, is definitely highly recommended, because you may not be able to come in for a visit without a reservation in place. It’s absolutely adorable. That’s saying a lot, since I’m not a huge fan of cats in the first place, but I felt very comfortable.
Hanging out with cats that are eligible for adoption, while sipping on some coffee, is a wonderful experience. The people who work here are great, and you can feel how much the cats care for them.
Loved all the sweet cats and kittens. Was a very fun experience for the whole family. Coffee was very good too!
Great place. My kids had a lot of fun interacting with the cats. Very well taken care of.
A pretty nice place! Like the interior and coffee.
If you love animals this is an absolute must-see. There are two rooms: the first one where you order your food and pay the cover charge of $6 each which by the way you can apply towards your food . This room is filled with cat artwork and trinkets. Then you go around a corner into the large nice-smelling beautifully decorated cat room. There is even a cat bouncer to make sure everybody treats the cats lovingly. The only thing you cant do is pick them up. Their dossiers are posted outside the room before you enter. There are amazing cat trees and colorful structures on the walls. Its a friendly place where all the customers chat about cats. You can even adopt a cat that day as long as you bring a carrier.
I know that its not right to make a review about a place when you havent been to it but I noticed you guys answered questions very quickly so I wanted to ask if to go we had to make reservations or we could just walk in thank you I will definitely visit soon
The cutest experience ever, all the cats are chill and playful and they really make you fall in love with them ♡ the staff is super nice and after the hour is done they take the time to sanitize every table. I really wish I couldve taken them all home ): really recommend going and seeing the cats yourself and adopting one if you can or kindly making a donation :3
If Im ever back in San Diego, Ill be sure to come back! The $8 price tag also comes with a drink/snack, which is a fantastic price compared to other cat cafes. The play room was clean, and all the cats were sweet and friendly. I wish I could take them all home! Staff was also friendly, and you could tell the cats received a lot of love.
Go enjoy some coffee and the company of felines! $8 gets you in the door (along with some karma). In exchange for those $8 you get one item from their coffee shop (drink or food) and unlimited warm fuzzies from their kitties. Most cats nap during the daytime and are more active towards the morning or evening. All cats were very friendly. I’d adopt them all if I could!!!
Me and my fiancee have been coming here for at least four years. We love it here the owner is super nice and helpful. The coffee is so good and I love hanging out with the adorable cats. The cat cafe is very affordable as well.
I was visiting San Diego to attend a conference. I found theres a cat cafe in a walkable distance from the conference center so I decided to drop by after lunch. You pay $6 for a coffee and you can stay there as much as you want! Some kitties were sleeping, two blind sibling kittens were playing with small balls and I also met a white deaf kitty. They are all really nie, chilling out. They are definitely more friendly than those in other cat cafes Ive been before. Maybe its because they are available for adoption and not staying too long there. There is a WiFi too, hope I could spend more time! Highly recommend to all cat lovers even if you dont have much time. Ill definitely be coming back next time I visit San Diego.
By what metrics do you judge a cat cafe? The drinks? The cats? The ambiance?Fortunately for these fine felines and the cafe they call home, it excels on all metrics. Ive been here twice, once at this location and once prior to their move and Ive been purrfectly satisfied with them both times. The cats are well treated here, given kind and attentive treatment by the proprietors and the shelter staff that work with them. Yes, many of these cats are here to hopefully find owners to adopt them into loving homes. And knowing that youre supporting a business that helps kitties find homes makes the the drinks you sip while petting them all the sweeter methinks. Not that the drinks need any help with tastyness, because in addition to the typical assortment of coffees found at other cafés, The Cat Café has its own unique mini menu of coffee cocktails, sans alcohol. Each one is delightful and worth a try when youre here. The indoors where the cats play is spacious and colorful and the outside has a gated patio with tables and chairs looking out over a small single lane street, with a nice upscale hotel on the other side.Parking can take a while, so come early and make sure you make a reservation beforehand!
The place itself is great!! Coffee is good, nice vibe, amazing art you can buy and of course.. THE CATS. I wish I could’ve adopted all of them. Which you can here!! Only thing I was upset with, was that of the alotted 30 minutes they give you, TWO GOONS hogged three cats in a corner for about 25 of those minutes!! Not happy. Other then that, will be back.
$8 for a really good cup of coffee and a room full of friendly cats to hang out with. No brainer, this place is great.
10 cats were out...a really great cause. Staff was engaged and the cats were awesome.
Quaint place to get acquainted with kitties up for adoption.
Ive visited this cat cafe twice, both on work travel to the area. Definitely one of the coziest ones Ive been to, in that during the weekdays at least its $8 to get in and that comes with a free breakfast item or coffee (and the mocha is pretty good!). Also unlike most cat cafes, if they arent busy there is no time limit, so you dont feel like youre being monitored/rushed. Makes it a fantastic place to just hang out with your laptop or a book and every now and enjoy the cats (which have all been amazing each time I went).
The reviews are hilarious. We had an amazing time and you HAVE to respect that these are animals and they have rules for a reason. If your child is doing something that puts the cats in danger they have a right to correct them or don’t take you child to a place with animals. these cats are their children and your going There to see them. The cats are most important and we should all agree, the employees understand the cats and we got a wonderful explanation of who each cat and their personality was. One thing I also noticed is that there is no litter odor!! I’ve been to a handful of cat cafes and one specifically in LA REEKS of litter(not just on the inside but the outside) But this cat cafe was clean and odorless!!!!!!!! I enjoyed my ice chai and my friends also enjoyed their drinks. We had a wonderful afternoon making new kitty friends and will be returning very soon. ❤️❤️ thank you!!P.S the customer is not always right😂
Enjoyable experience. Got some tea and played with the cats.
Good place for a moment of relaxation
Very cute Cat Cafe that allows you to buy something inside and pay just a little extra to see a room full of lovable cats. The idea seemed strange at first, being as I have 2 cats of my own, but to see an whole room made just for cats that are adoptable too was worth the extra cash.
We met a sweet little silver tabby at the Cat Cafe that we just knew had to come home with us. The cafe was clean, odorless and full of toys and perches to help cats up for adoption come out where people can observe and play with them. The staff and volunteers are so nice. If you fall in love with a cat while visiting, ask for an application while youre still there, or youll have to return for one - there are no applications online to download. The Cafe partners with The Rescue House, who helps all kinds of cats find assistance, healthcare and fosters until the right person comes along. Between the Cafe, Rescue House and the fosters, youll get all the info you need to welcome your little buddy home as soon as possible.
Suffered from stress from all the noise around the city. this place is a safe heaven of peace and quiet.
I enjoyed a hammerhead coffee while hanging out with the cats. There were 11 cats in house today. Clean facility and the coffee is great!
Very chill place with a good atmosphere. We booked a reservation and got to spend an hour in the area with the cats. Its a nice touch that a drink or food item is included with the entrance fee. Overall a relaxing and enjoyable experience getting to hang out and pet some cats.
Buy $8 in coffee or treats to pay for admittance into the cat room. Everything tasted great, but the best part was cuddling on the sweet cats. The people who work there really care about the cats and its a really positive environment to be in.
Love visiting every time Im in town. The staff is very friendly. & helpful with any questions you have on adopting or getting to know the cats personalities. Nice relaxing place to interact with cats and hopefully find them a forever home. ♡
Its a bit of a novelty to have a cup of coffee and hang out with cats. In order to be in the cat room, they require that you purchase a drink or other item for every person in your party. Snack treats were $3 and up--quite pricey for something that would usually sell for $1.50. The cats seem happy although there were a few feisty ones. There were no convenient trash cans or extra napkins in the cat room. They had two tables and a few benches. Parking is tough, so be prepared with patience.
Great for coffee or treat even if you arent going into the cat section. Friendly staff, good iced mocha, and fun cat themed items for purchase. Visits and coffee with the cats can be done with reservations or walk ins if available. Nice for quite place to study. Outdoor seating also.
Nice people, cute kitties, wish we could hang out longer
I love the business idea and I enjoy coming here. There was a volunteer there who was very helpful but also did what she was supposed to do and observe and be there if needed I never got a name but she was blonde and had straight hair and I really appreciated her. The only thing I dont like is how hot it will be in the room especially with the body heat from the amount of people in the room. I feel like they have too many people coming in at the same time before covid and now, during even more, There was 12 people in the room including volunteers, which should have been cut in half. There was this one black curly haired woman who Im pretty sure was a volunteer but I could be wrong. She was invading peoples 6 ft safe distance and she was calling attention to cats when other people were in the middle of petting them which is just rude. She talked a lot clearly wanted to be center for attention telling everyone the cats names and attempting to be seen as helpful. These cats are already skittish and not used to being handled since they Do Not allow you to handle them The cats never get to become comfortable. Also make sure youre early and not on time because if youre at all late they dont allow you to simply change your time instead you just lose that time which is only infuriating. So show up early because parking is limited. I heard theyll be changing locations so hopefully they will be able to improve on their air circulation and take away that discomfort. Things can always be improved I would never give a cat cafe less than five stars unless It was due to cleanliness/animal treatment, but this place was clean and I saw some volunteers cleaning tables quickly after use So they are definitely doing well on top of that situation.
I came here during a visit to San Diego for a conference. I was a little less than chipper after a night out and needed a nice relaxing activity. As a lifelong cat lover, this seemed like a good fit. The admission is $8 and includes a food or drink item. The staff was excellent not only with the cats, but with the visitors as well. You can really tell that they care for the kitties. When I went there were 10 cats total, but only 6 were hanging out with the people (in typical cat fashion). Overall it was a fantastic experience chilling with cats
First time visiting a Cat Cafe and it was so cool. We had never seen a bengal cat before and they had this gentleman named Leo! Gorgeous cat and a really nice way to have your morning coffee.
Came here on a whim and luckily there wasnt too many visitors today, so I didnt need to make a reservation. You pay a $14 fee to hang out with her cats, but you get a free drink with it, so its a really good deal. The cats have lots of places to hang out, plenty of toys, and most of them are very friendly. There is a back door for them to leave if they dont feel like being in the front. Overall, great place to hang out with some kitties or find a cat if youre looking to adopt!
Really loved the atmosphere and how calm it is . Also Very pleased on how clean it is .
Great little spot to enjoy a cup of coffee and the comfort of a fur baby. The owner went over all the cats and which ones need special attention or not as much attention. It costs $6 per person to go back with the cats but they take into account the amount you spend on a drink. Since it was later in the day we didnt want a coffee but had a peach oolong tea to offset the strange cold weather.
We had a nice time at the Cat Cafe. I would suggest making an appointment online to see the cats. The only thing I didnt like his how hot they let it get it in the room. Their AC is on a timer but they should either turn it on or not have so many people in one room. Also hard to interact with a cat you want when theres so many people.
Love to drop by this place. Their staff was truly amazing they cater my favorite iced coffee. A 5 star coffee shop!
Awesome chai latte and getting to pet and play with cats! Will def go again, plus its a great cause!
This place is really awesome! A very relaxing place to chill with cats. They are so amusing and entertaining! Staff is super nice and helpful!
All the cats at the cafe are adoptable, which is amazing! The space could use better ventilation. The coffee was surprisingly good also.
The place is amazing! the cashier and staff are super nice and brought us water since it was so hot. the cats were super nice the the drink were so good. theres a small admission fee but you get so many benefits from it. during co-vid kids under 6 are not allowed but luckily we had back up. 10/10 would come again
Staff is great at supervising and enforcing a calm environment for these precious kitties and the cats have plenty of places to climb, hide, and play. Each visit comes with an hour with the cats and either a cafe drink or treat. I will be buying a membership for sure. Cafe works with The Rescue House which has adopted out over 13,000 cats since 1999.
This cafe was well worth the visit, our group enjoyed the coffee and the cats. All of them were well behaved and very sweet plus the employee was very well informed on cats in general and knew all of the individual cats habits and assisted in helping the guests get to know the cats. Definitely a 10/10 experience here!
Not being a coffee drinker I was disappointed that the only drinks on the menu were coffee based but they also had a cooler with a few non coffee drink options. The cat room wad very nice and clean. They had 11 cats in residence when I visited. 1 house cat and 10 that were available for adoption. All the cats were friendly. The staff was knowledgable about and happy to talk about the cats. Staff was upfront about the rules so there were no suprises, and if one of the cats was in an unfriendly mood, they were conscience about making the guests aware for everyones (guests and cats) safety.
I would come here everyday if i could. Such a mellow environment and you can tell they take care of their cats. They have nice coats and theyre a good weight. Theyre doing great work to get cats adopted.
Cozy and friendly. The best cat cafe Ive been to on the West Coast.
I love this place so much..anyone in the area should go visit. I went three times made special friends with some furry kitties and drank good coffee/tea ..what a cool experience
Fun place to get coffee.
A favorite evening place of mine. The service was very kind and attentive. The bill was good for what you get. Feels similar to a cafe in Chicago I loved.
What an awesome place! All the cats are adoptable and adorable and who doesn’t love coffee!?
Took my son who loves cats. Had fun sipping our lattes (included on the $6 pp charge) and playing with the cats (approx 5that day).
The staff could’ve been a little friendlier. The coffee was okay. The time spent around the cats was enjoyable.
Great experience!! Extremely recommended.
We loved hanging out with the kitties. Staff is very friendly and helps you interact with the fluff balls.
Cute little cat cafe with many cute moggies. We visited late afternoon when the cats were sleepy after a long day, but we we’re able to play some games and have a few cuddles. Go and support this cat cafe so they can continue their good work 👍
What a great place. Not all cats do well in cages, and the Cat Cafe is a fantastic opportunity for these rescued kitties to meet potential adopters. The owner knows all of the cats well and clearly cares a great deal for them. There was also a volunteer there during my visit, who chatted quietly about the cats while helping a new cat adjust to the space.
The cat cafe is an awesome place! If you just want to relax, pet cats, and drink coffee this is the place to be. :)They have binders filled with cat photos, the owner will let you know which cats are available for adoption as well. Just know there is a fee to make a reservation. The owner of the cat cafe is friendly and will answer all the questions you have about the animals.
It was really fun and amazing. The cats are so lovely and the coffee was great... I definitely recommend
Nice place, you can tell they take good care of the cats.
Came here several times during our San Diego trip. Staff was very friendly and very knowledgeable about their coffee. Helped us decide on a coffee that we enjoyed very much. We also ate breakfast here. We ordered the organic French toast and applegate sausage. Very yummy!! Would definitely recommend this place.
Great deal! $8 for coffee and to play with cats!
Booked a visit for my friend and I while we were in San Diego. The staff was friendly, the environment was positive and beneficial to the cats. There was a shelf of toys you could take and use to play with the cats.the staff were knowledgeable and the cats wonderful. Our drinks were good.I would recommend giving this place a visit!
I was not planning on adopting another cat... but I fell love with one and once he was home I did not regret my decision... he is so loving and sweet...They take very seriously the adoption process to ensure that the little guys go into a safe and loving home. They were very thorough with explaining to me how to care for my new fur baby and also gave me all of his health information. I was also advised that if need be I could call them for assistance. They truly care for the well-being of their cats. Strongly recommend if you’re looking for a new fur baby or maybe just want to grab a cup of coffee!
