Hard to believe this is a hardware store. Its incredible. So much fun shopping and finding new ideas for projects. A must go if you need a few nuts and bolts.

Very Helpful staff. Helped me find what I was looking for, and if they didnt have what I needed they were honest about it. Knowledge seems to vary between employees (not sure depending on experience or due to dedicated departments) but the staff worked well with each other to get the right information to customers. There is a reason for their slogan the helpful place it is very accurate, great job!

Cool ace hardware. Its 3 floors. In Hillcrest so space is tight, but had plenty of supplies and had what I was looking for.

Amazing little hardware shop! So many handcrafted items, towels, soaps, socks, coffee cups with cute sayings and hard-to-find items. Cool Old popcorn makers that pop within its lid, modern Items, paints, an entire down stairs that I never even got to! Method cleaning products, ball caps, absolutely need a few hours to look through this place! Employees are beyond helpful, polite and kind. My 4/5 stars is because this place is expensive. A single hand towel w/funny saying or a single bar of soap is $9.00. That popcorn maker is $48.00. Rubber maid bowls, whisks, all over priced. The saddest part is you will need to walk urine stained, uneven, hacked up walkways and step over homeless people to get to the front door. The neighborhood is not good.

I had the most lovely experience with Brian (who was helping out on the floor). I had a lot of questions and he was wonderful. He helped me with everything and was patient and knowledgeable. Thank you Brian, you are exceptional. I know I will always come back to this Ace.

First of all this is a gorgeous ACE and all of the staff are super nice. 👌This visit was just to have a guest key made and when I pulled into a spot on Robinson the meter said it still had 12 mins on it and I thought I wonder if they could have it done in that amount of time? So I set a timer just in case I needed to run out and put some money into the meter.Walk in, as always super helpful staff... Gave the gentleman my current key, picked out a PRIMO new on, and in LITERALLY under 10 mins I was done, paid and heading home. There was still 6 mins on the meter when I got back in my car.I wish I could give this place 6 stars. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

I came in to have a house front door key copied. I had previously gone to the big box home improvement store twice to have the same key copied and both keys did not work. The person at ACE hardware that helped us was friendly. He informed us the probable reason why is that an improper blank was used to make the copy key. I got home and newly cut key works great thank you Ace hardware!!! I always appreciate your friendly personalized customer service!

I just moved to San Diego and this was the first time Ive been in the store. I never knew a hardware store could be so colorful and friendly! Amanda helped me find what I was looking for and was super friendly and helpful. In fact, everyone I encountered was super friendly. The displays were fun and colorful and the selection of cool and unique products was impressive. I found a super cool bistro set for the patio! They even helped me bring it out to my car! This is my new favorite hardware store!

This is a very nice, well stocked store. It doesnt fail when we need home improvement stuff, and the personnel is knowledgeful and super nice. The Hillcrest store is always a great shopping experience.

Ace Hardware is a convenient hardware store that you will always be surprised by their inventory. What I honestly like the most and knowing some of their employees that always help you and recognize you when you come back. Is my go to place when I start any of my projects. They offer me a reliable explanation of what I will need and the options. Specially Mr Ray their gentleman manager that has always a smile and helped me a lot to choose the products I needed. And Mr Bryan that helped me choose our new barbecue station and they even come to your house to install.

Oh my! So much more than a hardware store! Lots of unique, handmade items, pots & pans, cleaning supplies & succulents! Plus all the hardware!

I dont always go here most of the time I go to some other store I came here to pick up wheels for my shopping cart its a few other parts of my shopping cart people in the store very helpful thats one reason I go there I go to home Depot and theres no help you cant find anybody there but usually when I come to the to Ace hardware on Hillcrest I can actually find why you dont want in that store I go this time because I have my shopping cart I use to buy groceries and dye my laundry and just carry around with me the one of the wheels on them broke so I go in there and they have the wheels I need to fix my shopping cart worth and they also have the equipment theyll put it back together you cant find this kind of stuff any place else.

Its a hardware convenience store. People are friendly...But you are gonna pay more here for the convenience. I only go here when I am short in time.

Super good Ace Hardware store and Ive been to a bunch! You can get everything but the kitchen sink here. Who knows you might even be able to get that. I always feel like a celebrity when I visit since there are so many people asking me if I need help and then directing me to the proper floor and then new people ask me if Im ok. Historic building too. Check out the artsy mural on the side.

Great store, this store is literally 100 times better than Lowe’s and Home Depot, If they don’t have what you need on the floor they can order it from the warehouse and have it delivered, the workers were very knowledgeable and friendly. This will definitely be my go to store.

I must say being a handyman kind of guy and visiting many establishments providing tools and equipment and home service goods to the public, this is one of the most shwanky hardware stores I have been to. Walking in I would not have assumed it was a hardware store at all with the incense and home decor upstairs.. (and for those of you who dont know, TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT ↙️ DOWNSTAIRS.) Of course it fits right into Hillcrest and it caters to both indoor and outdoor goods and services. The staff was incredibly friendly helpful and pleasant. Lots of knowledgeable customer service and I will look forward to going back. Only thing I did not notice was a sign pointing downstairs for irrigation plumbing and supplies along with tools. Perhaps I missed it but I had to ask nonetheless. Overall, Im looking forward to going back here.~JR~

They are always so helpful and friendly here! They have pretty much anything you need for your home. They also have their own parking in the back of the building...which is AMAZING since its always hard to find parking in Hillcrest!

Old building thats very well maintained. Has that old-timey feeling. Three floors counting the basement and the loft. Clean, well managed, well stocked. Long hours. Freeway close. Super-friendly, knowledgeable and mature staff. Not that Home Depot/Lowes grind by any means. Order on line and pick it up at ACE. Since I found this one a few years back I go out of my way to shop there and avoid the big name stores. A much better experience for me.

The selection is great and all of the salespeople are very knowledgeable, personable, and friendly. The store doesnt swallow you whole like at one of the hardware warehouses like Lowes or Home Depot. And if Hillcrest Ace Hardware doesnt have something in stock, they will order it for you. Hillcrest Ace Hardware is small enough to feel like a neighborhood hardware store with the personal touch, but they also have the ability to compete with the warehouse type hardware stores because they have the resources and supply chain available to cover anything that you might need. They are always my go-to place for all things household and hardware because of their attention to customer service and ability to obtain what I need to get the job done.

As always - great customer service. Store was busy but team member told me he would get back to me as soon as he was done helping customers he was with. Sure enough he came back in a few minutes- helped me find my item (actually they didnt have the item I came in for but he found a great substitute - I could have ordered but wanted for a BBQ this weekend). I LOVE THIS ACE HARDWARE - has typical Hardware stuff but also great for browsing because it has so many home good items also. Nothing is better than the hardware store in the gay neighborhood - has everything on both sides of the aisle!

Felt super singled out and discriminated against for not wearing shoes- no policy listed on door or officially anywhere- manager felt like it was a hazard... that is so basic and ignorant. Im expecting the owner to call.

This is a great, small-town feel hardware shop right in the middle of Hillcrest. The people are super nice and helpful with none of that big-box store pretense. I mostly come here for keys and gardening supplies.

Frankly I have been going there for a very long time. This store has been serving the LGBT for years in one of my favorite neighborhood in San Diego.

Clean, equipped as your expect for Ace, but no fun if youre mobility challenged because all the hardware is in the basement and help is scarce so finding help and things easily requires a couple trips up and down.

Very nice store. They have a nice selection of both hardware and home goods. The blending of the two make this Brand a nice place to shop. They are helpful and nice here.I do not like how at the register you are always asked for your number or if its not on file to be added to their reward/marketing program. It can be borderline annoying. I eventually gave them my number to make it easy on me. Now when I go I have to scream my phone number to them while everyone in line can hear. My recommendation would be to allow us to enter it. Sure, they have the little card to put on your Keychain; who has used those since 2005?Another positive note: really fun gift options.

I walk with a pronounced limp. As I walked in, the staff member who saw me looking around for the department that would hold the item I was after asked me what I was looking for and then directed me down a large flight of stairs. Pretty tone deaf. Made it downstairs, to find the area that should hold the thing that I was searching for. I searched for that rubber washer of a particular size for a good 20 to 25 minutes with no luck and no assistance from anyone else. I did eventually find it, no wait, I didnt, because they were out of stock of that particular item.

Always friendly staff willing to help out.

The Ace in Hillcrest is great for finding anything for home repair and general hardware.Easy location on University. There is only street parking so finding a spot really depends on whats going on in the area.The store itself is really nice. Its clean and organized with that classic hardware store character. There are three floors of items. Hardware on the bottom basement floor, general stuff on the main floor, and office supplies, paper products and pet products on the upper floor. Prices arent the best, but they arent terrible. The store really shines with service. Everyone is super friendly and helpful. Its also dog friendly, so your pooch can come in.

Its a little smaller than most Aces but itll still have almost everything you need. The only thing thats lacking is plants and garden stuff. And the staff are incredibly helpful and friendly.

I came in last week and asked a male employee (who clearly doesn’t want to be working) in the back if they had any large spray bottles. I was standing in front of the small ones.His irritated answer was “maybe in the back.”Then nothing. He was fiddling with something. Unloading some boxes maybe?And so after a long pause, i said, “can you check?”Clearly annoyed, he said, “it will take a while.”At this point, he’s ignoring me and doing something behind the counter. So I ask, “when will the truck be unloaded?”“A few hours,” he snapped back.Bad customer experience right here. Manager should be informed. So here it is, and I went to Home Depot instead.Oh, there was another Female staff right next to us and she ignored both of us. Smh.(Maybe hire secret shoppers and find out who treats your customers right!)
