This place is amazing.My wife and I love to eat here.The staffs are friendly and the food is really delicious.We love it .My wife hardly gets impressed by someone else food but this place impressed her and we started visiting a lot .Food is worth every penny and it’s filling .No complains at all.It has easy access,covid secure,good place for family as well.They have a lot items on the menu to choose from including kid’s menu .Its also affordable .

Im as much a fan of old school diners as the next man. It doesnt get much more OLD school than this place, the drinks predate the invention of coca cola. The bread prehistoric. I would avoid unless you are archeological inclined 🤢

The Diner is a great place to eat. The food is quite good and well presented and at reasonable prices. It is one of the few places in the City where you can get a decent plate full. It does get busy at times, though. Visit them, its worth it!

Great simple food. They are not shy with their portions either. Service is also great. We will visit them more often.

A great little cafe / restaurant that was a treasure to find. Very complete menu and always piping hot food cooked fresh to order. Very helpful and friendly staff working their little socks. Never had a bad meal here and always managed to find a table although it does get very busy. The fact it is so busy is a testimonial in itself.

City diner... This is a review that I thought Id never make.Ive been going to City Diner, way back when it was called Starburst when Chelmsford was a mere Town! The food was great for value.However, since becoming a City and the name change, the owner Ali; has been increasing the prices every year to the point that the food isnt worth the price anymore, which is a real shame. The staff are always lovely and always welcoming to new and existing customers with joy, fun and wholesomeness.If the prices were to drop again, I would be more then happy to raise my review up to a solid 4*, because this is a good greasy spoon current with the current prices; it isnt worth what you get served. - not that Im implying their food is terrible because when its actually cooked properly it is actually really nice! But there is zero consistency with the food being served to customers. Its either overcooked, undercooked or burnt.

Tucked away in High Chelmer it is my favourite dinner as they serve an amazing large breakfast all day and I can have liver added!!! Only place I know that serves liver, all the staff are friendly and professional with a smile for everyone. Great yourself and stop by.

Meals are OK,but the cups of tea are too milky, I like to put my own milk in, because I like it strong without sugar and a few drops of milk

Been here a few times and never had a bad experience, its generally busy which is a good sign that their doing something right, theres a large amount of choices from all day breakfasts (6 different choices) to curry, paninni or baked potato or you can just pop in for a cuppa tea or coffee. The staff are very friendly and helpful too. Reasonably priced too and makes a good change.

Proper cafe grub at reasonable prices. Helpful staff but the fixed seats can be a squash! Gets very busy.

Shabby state of menu. Greasy food, over priced for quality, no butter on a bacon roll or option!!! £1.25 for half a tea! Greasy city cafe more like! However the staff were polite and efficient... a shame the hospitality and the excellent community feel of the place doesnt match quality of food...wont be back...

The worst cafe Ive ever been to. Selling hovis bread 2 slices for a £1. Food not cooked properly. Hp brown sauce looked like curry sauce where it was watered down.. Couldnt even cook hash browns properly just tasted like greasy oil. Overpriced. Run by cheapskates. Ive been going cafes since Ive been a little kid from London to Essex and this is worse than East ham...If your looking for a decent cafe with actual edible food go Moulsham Cafe just down the road.

It’s alright. The staff are pretty rushed and one in particular is very demeaning, being very blasé about the food, telling my sister that ‘many people come back for the Bolognese and it’s not that bad’. DO NOT GET THE SPAGHETTI BOLOGNESE! The bolognese smelt like it was 54 years old, tasted like how it smelt and was so refined and so opposite to what mince looks like, it looked like it was from a can. It was horrible, I wouldn’t even feed it to a dog. The spaghetti was cold and rock hard. The vegetarian stuff’s ok though.

Surprisingly way better than it looks from the outside! Yes the tables are small and all looks a bit too crowded and uncomfortable. But the food is very good, tasted so fresh!! The ladies serving there are really nice and the atmosphere is very friendly. It was a perfect lunch with my daughter on a shopping day. A pasta bolognese and a chicken kiev with 2 drinks was only £12.00. Well worth it!(took 1 🌟 as it is a bit tight the table for 2, sorry)

Quick service but the good was not very nice, I had chilli con carne in jacket potato, the chilli com carne tastes like it was from a cheap brand can, it had no mince and was so watery, it actually made me feel sick, my partner had a all day breakfast, which even the mushrooms looked deep fried, we were very dissapinted

Experience was terrible! Ordered 3 meals 3 different meals came out before we finally got what we ordered! Then one meal was wrong asked for no mushrooms but they came with them! Allergy!!! Argh! Then our 3 meals came out at different times with the toast coming out 10 mins before the meals!! So it was cold!!! Avoid avoid avoid!!!!!
