The classic ceviche is unique and interesting. They use tiger’s milk, a tangy liquid, to cure the fish, which you can see in the photo. It also comes with fried corn nuts which give it a nice taste of fat, corn, seaweed, and yam. I wanted more carbs in my meal but it was definitely interesting and authentic. The lolo pastado, steak and fries, was just okay. I liked how they didnt have too many fries and the fries were larger than usual. The meat was chewy and tough. There were some vegetables but I’d have preferred more. On top of this it was $19, which doesn’t do it any favors. The chicken and rice was fine.
I’ve been here a few times, and I have to say Jora is a delightful addition to the San Jose food scene.Peruvian food has an awesome mix of culinary heritage. I love the Lomo Saltado here - a stir fried beef dish that also has red onions, tomatoes, chiles, rice, and mild spice. The beef is always cooked medium, which is exactly what you want in a stir fry. The rice soaks up the sauce really well. The onions add a sweet and fragrant element to the dish. It’s really just lovely. The chaufas (fried rice) are also a solid option here. The seafood chaufa is a hefty portion, and has a solid wok aroma.
Delicious Peruvian food in San Pedro square market.Everything was very well seasoned and fish was fresh. We really enjoyed every single dish! Ceviche was yummy and authentic, seafood rice was creamy and the seafood on top was well cooked. And the dessert was perfect end! I love rice pudding and this one was one of the best I have tasted! Mazamorra was very flavorful!Highly recommend this place! Will definitely come back plus the outdoor seating was pleasant. Came here on Thursday around 5pm and there was plenty of available seats that were cleaned after each guest.
This place has been on my radar for a long time and finally today I was able to try it.I had the vegan entree (sautéed seasonal veggies, grilled chimichurri tofu, Peruvian white rice, potato fries, uchu hot sauce trio). My friend enjoyed seafood rice (scallops, shrimp, catch of the day, creamy Peruvian bisque rice, parmesan, green peas, piperade) and we shared Chicha morada (a drink made from purple corn, fresh lime juice, cinnamon, star anise, clove, simple syrup) and of course dessert: ½ Mazamorra + ½ Rice puddingEverything was DELICIOUS! And yes, even the tofu on the Vegan entree was flavorful. The big surprise: Chicha morada, please give this drink a try.The staff is super friendly and explains each component of the dish and the waiting time: nothing, especially when you can see that everything is made at the moment you order, and you can taste the freshness of the ingredients. So if you want to try something different, flavorful, and new, go there!
This is my new favorite food in the downtown sj area! First time having Peruvian food and it was great. I got the fried potato and steak. Had a nice spicey kick to it. Came with veggies and rice. The rice was so good too! I had no idea their rice was going to be so flavorful. This is definitely the best spot to eat from at San Pedro square market. Good prices and big portions compared to other spots at the market.
Food was not worth the cost. Meat was so chewy and the girl working there was very short and kinda rude every time I asked her for something. I’ve eaten lomo saltado various times and my honest opinion this was one of the worst ones.
Had the vegan dinner and it was sooooo delicious. Also a side of plaintain yummmm
So first of all, they have 3 different prices. Their website says one price, then the chalkboard menu at the location is higher in price than their website, and a printed menu they give you is even higher in price. Of course they charge you the price on the most expensive menu, and don’t care that they have different prices advertised. But the worst part of it, the food isn’t even worth the cheapest advertised price.I got the Lomo Saltado plate, the Yuca and the Fried Plantains. The portions in general were small. As for the Lomo Saltado, the amount of meat was ridiculously small, the meat was chewy like gum and the whole plate was waaayyyyy too salty. The fried plantains, which are supposed to be ripe, sweet plantains, were only semi-ripe, and therefore had almost no sweet in them. The only thing that was actually good (and therefor the 2 stars review) were the yuca fries, that although were a small portion for the price, were actually really well prepared.
Ceviche was alright .. Lomo Saltado was okayI’ve had better that’s for sure!Customer service was great!
Great new place in the San Pedro Market!!! This place has so many food options including vegan ceviche. I had the fried plantains and the purple corn drink ( I cannot remember the name but it tastes amazing ). My brother in law is from Peru and was super excited by this place. The food is authentic and flavorful. The Alfajores were AMAZING. Perfect flavor and texture. Definitely will be a regular stop for me.
Great food, great service! If you are looking for authentic Peruvian food, you need to come here!About the food; the ceviche was awesome, I have tried to find a good place to get a fresh and tasty ceviche and I found it! Also, the pork sandwich and sweet potato remind me of my favorite place back in Peru “La Lucha”.The service was fast, and the attendant was kind and she also explained to me about the meals.
Very pricey but good food. I got my Peruvian food fix at least.
This plan is 100% unreal... San Pedro Square Market does not deserve ceviche or Peruvian food of this caliber. Unbelievably elevated cuisine. This is very similar to what youd find in fine dining Peruvian.Several months ago I was introduced to Jora Ceviche from my brother-in-law who Peruvian born and raised. Hes obsessed with Jora, Im obsessed, my wife is obsessed... Pretty sure the whole family is obsessed. The classic ceviche is amazing. If youre not a fan of REAL heat, ask for mild on the spice level. Their main dinner dishes are delicious and perfectly filling.Anyone to knock their prices is ignorant. Fresh high-quality fish of this level cost MONEY :) Trust me, your taste buds will thank you!
For a Peruvian the Lomo Saltado was good. But the causa rellena? Naa que ver causa. Lol. Not really causa rellena far from the original taste. My wife and I really liked the surroundings though.
The food is really good :) Tried their ceviche and carapulcra and it definitely made me feel home.
Jora’s food is incredible!!! Authentic Peruvian food in San Jose definitely isn’t that easy to find, so this place is a shiny gem. I was blown away by their flavors, their staff was kindhearted, & the service was reasonably fast relative to how busy they were. The Vegan Ceviche, Shrimp Causa, & Purple Drink were the tastiest combination of flavors I’ve experienced in a long time. Super stoked to support them!
I’m Peruvian and love peruvian food of course!! But You guys can do better! Peruvian food is really good but with you guys it feels like I don’t want it anymore, I order a lot of food, expensive by the way and the ceviche is the only dish I can say was so so and for dessert I ordered mazamorra morada.... no raisins no prunes no apples no cinnamon sticks, come on, more attention to the kitchen, if the food is perfect you will have more customers, I love the customer service, 100 points right there.
The best Peruvian food! I just got a shrimp causa 😋🤤🤤🤤 SOOOO GOOD! The guys are super friendly, the place super clean, and the flavors of another world!I can’t wait to come back!
The mixed ceviche was ok. Did have generous portions of seafood-fish, shrimp and scallops and fresh lime juice, but the dried corn was off-putting and near ruined the dish for me especially $17. Wouldve enjoyed some cilantro. Did arrive promptly.
Delicious ceviche.
Very friendly staff and food is delicious.

Great walkup location for ceviche. Knowledgeable chefs and authentic selection of ingredients.
This place is so freaking good. My favorite is the ceviche mixto. While the dish might look small a surprisingly large amount of seafood is packed in it and the hominy and toasted corn make it quite filling. Speaking of hominy, other times Ive had it it can be a bit mealy but somehow at jora they make it perfectly tender and sweet. Yumm. The pork stew and chicken causa dishes Ive tried have also been delicious.
Amazing! overpriced and very slow service... unique food i guess$18 for 1 a half leg of octopus, rice, potatoes, few leaves of greens...... ok....
Very good and tasty, but very expensive for what you get. Low value.
Awesome 👍 food
Great food and service.
Bastante bueno..lo que comí me dejó satisfecho. La chicha morada buenísima. La comida peruana tiene bastante aceptación.
I highly recommend the chicha morada is very good! You can ask that they give you a little to taste. I ordered lomo saltado, which was very good, and chicha, which was also very tasty. In those 3 things I spent about 42 dlls.
The best ceviche in San Jose and Santa Clara
The incredible cause, the ceviche as at home (Im Peruvian) and the seafood chaufa 10 points.
