Would NOT recommend this shop at all whatsoever.Only reason we brought the car over this location for repair was the fact that it is the closest distance to our house and the car was having issue with the alternator. After they replaced the alternator, a few days later the engine was starting to develop some kine of noises. Brought the car back 2 weeks later and was told extra charge will be accessed to look at the issue. Prior to visiting this place, car had been running great without any issues and it only has less than 60K mileages. This place overcharged for everything and the worst part of it was the fact that the final amount they charged me was higher than the original one. When we confronted the manager he explained that his employee was still a rookie so he was giving me a wrong number. In short, DO NOT go to this place. Read other comments before making a trip here and compare their price with other places first. The manager is very unfriendly and you could tell he is not an honest man.
This place is is amazing! Extremely professional and honest. Very friendly and knowledgeable walked me through the whole process and explained everything to me. I didnt feel I was being taken advantage of at all and since I dont know anything about cars I was afraid of that happening to me but not here at Franks automotive. I was very happy with the service and price. I would recommend them to anyone who needs vehicle repair. 5 stars all the way.
Asked if they work on our vehicle type regarding electrical and fuses. Stated they did. Had my car for 2 days and told me I would have to take it to the dealership. Charged me just to say they can’t work on this type of electrical issue. Now I have to take it to the dealer, pay yet another diagnostic fee, just to get my issue resolved. Do not take foreign cars to this place. They will not disclose that they can’t work on all electrical issues and will then make you pay for NOTHING. Wasted 2 days and 10 min arguing with the guy about the charge. Obviously I wouldn’t have brought it to them had they said they have exceptions for electrical work knowing I would have to pay another place for the same diagnostic. Thanks for wasting my time, money, and energy, but mostly thanks for reassuring me that you guys are not the place to take my car…EVER.
*****Update - I received a call regarding the review left below and was able to get the quote that I needed. I was treated with such respect and got an apology to boot. There are so many places that dont care when a customer leaves angry or leaves a bad review. This was a welcoming shock. I will be getting my work done at Franks. Theyre prices are fair, theyre honest, and they genuinely care about their customers. The bad experience that I had from a busy employee did not justify my original review. Its possible that not all employees there have the same integrity and customer service skills, but it doesnt mean that its a bad place.*****Original Review - I called to request a quote on some work for my vehicle. I was very specific on what I needed (shoes and drums/alignment/tune-up) and was refused to be assisted. I was told to bring my vehicle there to be looked at, which would require a charge $$$.This makes me really sad because my dad swears by this shop.
Great experience. I brought in my work van with brake issues and was provided options and received a follow up call telling me they did further research and recommended which option would be the best for our van (which happened to be the cheaper option). Many thanks for the honesty and I will be a repeat customer.
I came in a few months ago and asked for an oil change as well as both filters to be changed, air and cabin. When they finished with my car they ended up only changing one of the filters and claimed I had not asked for both. After all of that, it was still more expensive than the dealership quote and for less work. They did give me a discount I believe. With the discount it was still more than the Chevy dealer. I also gave them my email for their car updates they claimed to give me but it’s been months and I have not gotten anything.
Frank’s Auto repairs have always be reliable. My AC was not cooling. After a diagnostic on the same day I was told what was wrong, what repairs were required, and that I could pickup my car the next day. The guys at the shop we’re friendly and professional. I just picked up my car and it is cold inside. That’s reliable and quick.
Had a blow out one week, and they fixed my truck within a day, then I had my radiator go out, and the day I told them I needed them to work on it, they had it done before the afternoon ended. They’re awesome!! They’re a little pricey on taxes and labor however, I am glad I found them and they’ve worked on my truck. Thanks guys! Colton is the best!
Although Frank’s may be a little pricey, I always have a good experience. Anytime I go in has been for when my car breaks down. All the staff are very nice and accommodating, especially Colton who is my favorite. He even had another staff member drive me home after dropping off my own vehicle. After 5 visits with no problems, it’s safe to say I’ll be going back. :)
My car is pretty old. At the end of the oil change, they were nice enough to print out and explain which parts and services were required in the near future if I wanted to keep up with the maintenance. They even wrote the number on the pages in order of high priority to low priority so it would be easier for me to remember which ones needs immediate attention. No other companies have done this or gone as far as they have to explain about it and how long can I wait before they need to be fixed. They’re very nice people.
Project took a long time for a quick fix. They kept blaming others for my vehicle not being ready. I should have just taken it to the Ford Dealer. Will not be going to Frank’s again. I was not going to leave a review (because I didn’t want people to think I was a Karen) but they would not stop emailing/texting me to leave a review. If you know your customer was not happy, don’t keep bothering them for a review, please.
Frank’s is a place I’ve been going to since I’ve gotten a car and since my family has settled in Texas. They always treat you like family and have quality work. I would highly recommend going to Frank’s for all your auto issues if you live in or near the San Marcos area!
Do not trust this company with your vehicle. Went in for an oil change and it started leaking two days later. The owner wouldn’t own up to it. Ended up costing me $500 to replace. Trash company and expensive. They pry on young people and students.*** Then they say they cant find me into their database. Lies lies lies!!! Be very careful with this company especially if your a college student! I would always get a second opinion.
My experience with this garage was amazing. I came in on a Friday morning before a Monday Holiday. I was interested in knowing my car’s condition. As a AAA member it was a perk of membership. As a female you don’t know if you are being ‘taken for a ride’ regarding car repair. This garage is not that kind of place. The owner Frank & the shop manager George were all about helping me understand what my car needed and how long I could expect my car to keep going. I have never, repeat, never had an experience so professional and straight up about car repair. Felt at ease about my repair decisions. Then these guys went the extra mile to get the parts and complete the work right then. Will tell everyone who wants a great garage you can trust—that this is the place. My car runs like new & I’m so happy. Job well done!
These guys are my go-to. I LOVE THEM. I struggled for years getting ripped off by mechanics until I found them. Been going for a couple years now and they’ve always done good by me. They’re reasonable about what needs to get done, and very straightforward with you. I’m always on a tight budget, and they really work with me. Friendly guys that know what they’re doing. It’s great to know my beloved car is in expert hands. Definitely 5 stars!!!
I took my car in because it had a low coolant light as I did not want my car to overheat, and in the process I had them check another issue I had with my tire bearings. They diagnosed my coolant problem correctly, but nearly completely misdiagnosed my tire problem.Theyre diagnostic summary is very good, state of the art I would say. They send it to you via text and it tells you every thing they checked and their recommendations. One problem that I did have and why I ultimately chose to take my car to a different mechanic, was the gross overcharge that I saw. Franks quoted me $960 to replace my coolant expansion tank, thermostat, and coolant flush. I called the BMW dealership, because that number seemed a little too high and sure enough, they quoted me $550 max (ended up paying $460). On my tire bearing issue, Franks quoted me $1400, to replace the bearing on both sides and some other parts... while ignoring that my knuckle was the actual problem while the bearing still had road life. The mechanic that I took it too, charged me $600 less (paid $780) including all the parts Franks wanted to replace plus the ones it actually needed. My verdict is, I cant never trust Franks as I cannot see where the $1,100 overcharge would have come from.
They treated me great, fantastic service. AC is super cold. I will tell people about them if they need help fixing their cars. Thank you for fixing my AC.
Franks is always good to do business with. They keep u well informed once they know whats going on and get your permission 1st. An auto place that can be trusted, one of the few.
I went because my speedometer was stuck at 0. I am a college student at texas state and this is my brutally honest review of my experience. I called to ask if they took Volvo, I was hit with a rude attitude and abrupt speech. I didnt have any other choice in mechanic since everywhere else was appointment based and wasnt available til the next week. I bit the bullet and went to Franks. They had to run a diagnostic on my car (which cost 100 bucks) then proceeded to call me hours later to tell me that the flat tire I replaced was the wrong size and was the root of the problem. This was the only accurate information. They then proceeded to try to take advantage of me because I was a student. They told me that they had to re calibrate my dashboard with what would be a 200 dollar charge on top of the diagnostic fee. (I called my Houston mechanic and he told me that the car auto calibrates when the correct wheel was on...). I dodged a bullet by not letting them rip me off. They then sent me a list of things that were good and bad with my car. The top of the bad list stated I needed an oil change but I thought that was funny because I got one 3 days ago! The rest of the list said I had to flush every possible system in my car. These people are preying off the students. All the reviews are positive but I just cant see why. I hope yall make sure you are being charged for what you really need to be fixed. Dont let them take advantage of you.
I have a daughter going to Texas State and I live two hours away. I do have automotive knowledge but dont claim to be a mechanic. These guys diagnosed the problem and repaired her vehicle and where in line price wise with any good shop! Friendly, knowledgeable and fair. Appreciate them taking care of my daughters car and will return if any future problems occur. Thanks
George took great care of me from start to finish. I was in a really sticky situation with my car breaking down on my birthday and on the first day of my visit to San Marcos. George went over and above to reassure me and treated me as a priority. I knew I was in good hands from the very beginning. He went out if his way to help me. My car was fixed in quick time and they did a great job. Great work, fair prices and great customer service. Thank you George!!
This review is based solely on the preliminary service received upon arrival. The staff was friendly yet professional. Took time to explain anything I didnt understand. Gave me a breakdown of costs and seemed to make it a point to try and get my mechanical issue resolved as quickly as possible. I will come back to this review to add my comments on the final and most important part...the final product: the repair.Okay...now for the repair. I was provided with quicker than expected results. They had me back on the road the same day. When an additional repair had to be added to the job, I received a phone call immediately with the details and was provided evidence of why it had to be done. Professional service throughout. Prices confirmed to be fair by a friend from DFW who is also a mechanic.Thumbs up to Franks Automotive and their team!
Good overall diagnostic tools and helpful people, but simply overpriced. I got several other quotes for the same work and same materials that were generally about 3/5ths the price quoted by Franks. I finally took it to 4-Way Auto in Kyle. 4-Way did the job well, as Im sure Franks would have, just at nearly half the price. On a different note, I hope I have written this review kindly enough to not receive a passive aggressive reply from Franks, as so many other reviewers have. They also misspelled my last name in their system as Runze, and I have noticed that they often reply to reviews saying that they are not in the system.
Professional work quality at a professional price. Our old car was not worthy of this shop, however when we eventually buy a newer vehicle, we can trust Frank’s to perform good auto service in a timely fashion.Unfortunately for us, after $1500 of repairs, the car totaled out for another reason on a road trip out of state a week later. Frank’s work was all good, just wish we’d known the investment was not smart beforehand somehow.
I am a retired ASE Master Mechanic and just moved to the area. I went to 5 different shops to get my rotors turned and was turned away! Took a my last chance @ Franks Auto and was very impressed by their customer service and their quick turnaround!! The Service Advisors were very Professional and above all Courteous! I highly Recommend!!!
On my way to San Antonio Texas, my engine burned up, was towed to Franks Auto, by AAA and was taken to Frank Auto AAA Recommend, this was on a Sunday got a rental car and continued on my vacation, George the general manager, called and told me that my motor was shot & recommended a used motor my car 2001 Avalon, had to leave with Frank & crew, took about 3 weeks to complete the transition ( I live in Dallas) picked it up Wednesday and much to my surprise I found a Lexus motor under the hood. Drove home very fast & smooth.GREAT SERVICE, JUST TOO BAD FOR ME TO FAR TO SERVICE MY TRUCK. THANKS FRANK & GEORGE.
I’m very pleased with the work that Franks Auto did on my BMW 325ci. They not only fixed my problem (worn control arm bushings), but did it in such a quick fashion. This is not the first time I’ve been to Frank’s (and with a different BMW too), and they have always been fair, honest, and kind. What more can you ask for? I will definitely be back!
I had an a/c issue where the lines were leaking at the valves. Franks fixed it very quickly and it now blows very cold air.Everything worked out but I thought his charge was too high. But my problem was resolved very quick. I would recommend and go back to Franks. I had work done on another car years ago also. I think he has skilled mechanics but he is a bit higher in price in my opinion.
I can’t say enough how grateful we are to have found Frank’s.They fixed my Volkswagen’s AC problem quickly and efficiently. And!!! 1/2 plus some change of the price of the dealership quote. We are now lifetime clients! Thank you Frank’s!
Once again the Franks team has provided excellent service. All questions were answered in a way a non automobile person could understand and the repairs were done quickly. After 11 years won’t take our autos to anyone else.
Just moved here from Florida had problems with my Corvette so I took it to Chevrolet dealer. They had the car over a month for a windshield wiper pump. So I picked it up and went to Franks. I talked to Service manager Colton. He had the part and fixed the next morning. And very happy he did as the next day I had to take my Lincoln Navigator in for air conditioning. Frank had the parts and the ok from insurance company before I got there and was fixed before I got up the next morning. If it’s a few dollars more. It’s worth it as I have two high end vehicles to fix and so far Franks is better than the dealer. Thanks Frank and Colton. I’ll be back.
Our Volvo SUV had a complicated, on-gong shifter/transmission issue that required a lot of time and effort to resolve completely. Colton and George and their crew of mechanics worked very diligently on several occasions to ensure that the problem was resolved completely. They guarantee and stand by their repairs and we appreciate how hard they worked to get us back on the road again.
Have been using Franks for all my car repair needs for a while now. Service usually done in one day, so long as its nothing major. They always keep you in the loop and great customer Service! Id recommend it to anyone looking for repairs!
Very satisfied with the service. First I took it to Chuck Nash for some reason they couldnt figure it out. Then took it Franks Automotive they figure it out within an hour. Great job guys.Thank you
These are the most honest mechanics I have ever dealt with. I moved to San Marcos 3 yrs ago and have had a couple of issues with my car..but what blew me away was when there is nothing wrong or it doesnt need to be repaired yet...thats what they tell you. They will forever have my business.
Great service, Thanks!
Knowledgeable, helpful, and detail oriented. Ill never take my truck to another location if I can avoid it.
I was happy to patronize this local business in San Marcos. They ordered some parts for me and let me know as soon as the parts came in just a couple of business days later. I then made an appointment with the business and I was seen right away at my appointment time. I needed a new fender liner by a front tire, and they fixed it quickly and did a great job. The cost came out to their estimate. Very pleased.
I finally found a reliable car shop to bring my car to without them charging a leg and a arm! The guy who worked on my car did such a thorough job making sure he didnt miss anything, and he finished in a timely manner that worked for both of us. I appreciated being told honest and affordable prices for getting my car fixed and did not feel like I was being scammed. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone looking for affordable parts and/or work to be done on their car.
Very nice to work with. Colton was amazing. They completed the work quickly. Especially helpful when parents are out of town and kid with broken down car is at school.
Honest place for Auto Repair. My daughter attends Texas State and is about 600 miles away from home. When we first took her Mountaineer (which had 150,000 miles) we searched for a great automotive repair shop. We found Franks and it has been so comforting knowing I can count on them for repairs and oil changes. They even give 10% off to students and are AAA certified.Well my daughters engine light came on and now she has about 170,000 miles on it. She took it in this morning and they said it was going to be $85.00 for a diagnostic check. They checked it and determined it was under warranty on some repairs they did this year. It didnt cost us anything - George thanks for being honest and taking care of my daughters car. Great place - I will definitely continue to take her SUV to Franks.
Brought my car in with what I thought may have been a fan issue. They checked it and instead of making something up they were honest and told me it was running fine. They will always have my business
Very helpful and did great work!
Everyone there was very friendly and I have nothing against the people that helped me. However, they tried to charge me $700 to replace my front rotors and to replace my back brake pads. My dad said that they were ripping me off and proceeded to take my car to a different mechanic that only charged me $170, service and parts included. Im sure I dont need to tell you that a $530 difference is extremely significant. The service is great, but the prices are awful.
I chose Franks because when I inquired about Fees Bob was honest, friendly and smiled. Franks employees do fabulous work. They are thorough, and will tell you what all they find wrong with your vehicle. They will not do any work without your permission. The location is very convenient. I was truly amazed at how welcoming the employees are at Franks. They are funny and are truly one big family. Franks Definitely has true friendship and team work. Thank you to all of you at Franks. Great work !
I recently had to replace the left side catalytic converter on my SUV. Called Franks Automotive had the part ordered and took my SUV in and they completed the work in the time stated. The cost for the job even beat other shops in town! Nice! I have been going to Franks Automotive for at least 13 years. Always received excellent service from Frank and his team! If I had a technical question or if there was an issue they promptly addressed it. I especially appreciate them whether its Frank or Bob explaining the technical aspect of the work or diagnoses; yes I ask technical questions and am technical. Always get satisfactory answers, confirmed. Btw, Bob is one of the best Service managers. Franks Automotive has a nice waiting area which Ive enjoyed when I waited for preventive maintenance on my vehicles. I really appreciate the team at Franks. And they are certified! Thanks to Frank and his team at Franks Automotive!
They overcharge and aren’t honest. Some of them are friendly and some aren’t. They aren’t good at communicating and they are slow. They will try to up-sell you and will definitely take advantage of you if they think they can get away with it. I would not recommend them.*EDIT* - Downgraded to one star for the illiterate and passive-aggressive reply to my review....And in regards to the window problem, they charged something like $50 to roll it up and lock it (incorrectly) twice (probably going on three times, well see). Another mechanic was able to fix the sister window with the same issue for $25 in 5 minutes flat, going on over a year now...
Excellent Service. Honest and trustworthy. Great prices (better than the competition). I didnt tell them I had other estimates and they still had the best prices..Fast and friendly service. I was impressed!!!!
Took care of my car quickly, with a smile. I appreciated the clear explanation of the process they would follow and updates after the diagnosis.
Took my truck in today to have my front driver side brake checked today and they quickly found the problem and had us in and out under 2 hours.. they are straight up and honest people with a professional atmosphere with reasonable prices thank you so much yall are amazing
I cant even express the amount of gratitude I owe to Frank and his team! They were absolutely excellent! I was very stressed with all the problems I didn’t realize I had. Franks Automotive was very through and caught all the problems another mechanic didn’t. Their service was excellent. They provided another level of high class service that I have never experienced before and they went above and beyond their duties to make sure that I was not stressed anymore. I am so happy with the work they’ve done that I immediately needed to write a review for them because they deserve all the credit and more.
Colton and the team at Franks Automotive took excellent care of my sons Nissan Frontier. They did the work at a much more affordable price than the Nissan dealership wanted for the same work. They were very helpful throughout the process.
I took my car into Franks Automotive to get the shocks replaced. Everyone at the shop were very helpful and very nice. They were very fast and very efficient. Plus they offer warranty for the work they did. I will take my car back to them if I ever need anything else done and I highly recommend them
These people are liars and thieves. I was headed to work on morning and all of a sudden I was having over heating issues with my car so I took it to the shop for a diagnosis because I had to go to work. By the time I got out of work they told my they looked at everything on the car and that there was a “huge hole in the radiator.” They wanted $1,100 to replace a $130. Radiator. So I did it myself. Took me an couple hours just to find out there was absolutely nothing wrong with radiator what so ever. So basically they just told me it was a broken radiator so they could have me pay an astronomically high price just to make me pay for something else after I realized it was still over heating. Took it to a different shop here in Kyle called TNT Automotive for a diagnosis and they took maybe a couple hours to find out what the real problem was and charged me $60 to fix it. No problems with my car whatsoever after I took it to TNT Automotive. EVERYONE JUST BE CAREFUL THESE PEOPLE ARE OUT TO TAKE ADVANTAGE OF YOU.
They always do the most thorough work up and diagnosis for my cars. Then they work extra hard to give me options bases on my budget needs. Then they make the repairs fast and get me back on the road.
My mother had her car go into limp mode near Franks automotive. Her car was left there around 10am. Wasnt given back til close. They miss diagnosed it for a throttle body. Replaced it. Limp mode occurs immediately. She leaves it there over night. In AM they look her car over. They see coolant on belt housing to transmission. Automatically they assume with no pin testing that she needs a pcm. Throttle body is replaced with old one and new pcm is installed. Again as soon as she leaves her car goes into limp mode. I work here in san Marcos. I get my moms car here and receive input out put sensor codes. Which is transmission related. I ask them about it and their response is they never received those codes. That new pcm was responsible for giving code cause old one was bad. When your transmission goes into limp mode its highly possible that throttle body codes along with traction control lights will occur. Im very disappointed how they conducted their diagnosis on both occasions. I changed both sensors in transmission valve body. Car ran fine for a day and limp mode occurs. So we change her transmission here at aamco. Shes been over two weeks with no issue or transmission codes . She has a evap code which I will address soon. My mom tried to resolve it and get compensated on any amount for the nearly 700 dollar computer that solved nothing they claimed to have diagnosed. So Im here as a mechanic myself writing this post of a terrible experience with their company. Good luck on those who go here.
I have been very impressed with the customer service at both Franks Auto locations. Mark has helped us tremendously and is always great to work with. I definitely recommend the San Marcos location.
I was a loyal customer of Franks automotive, but after this experience, I wont ever take my car there. My car got overheated from work to home in Austin, I had to get mechanic to diagnose the problem, the mechanic said it was a leak in thermostat housing. So I said, okay Im gonna take it back to Franks, since they replaced that part a few months ago. I took my car to them to replace the thermostat housing, first when I to my car back to them, they didnt even ask me anything about the incident. Second I got a call from one of their people just to tell me, its not the thermostat leaking. I was okay and then what is it, and he was let me find out. Who in the world, calls a client to let them know its not what I said it was and not offer a solution or know whats the problem??? So they checkd the car again and call to say it was a leak in the heater hoses. I said okay fix them, and they up charged me a ridiculous amount of $400, just to replace two heater hoses. Next day Im driving from work to home in Austin and again my car get overheated. I call to talk the manager because obviously I want my money back since they did not fix the car. and they are like owner wont be back until Tuesday so you have to wait to get a refund. Its absolutely ridiculous. Please dont take your car here. They dont fix the problem, they are were not sympathetic at all with my situation, they up charge taking advantage of college kids. Dont take your car there.
They actually made a/c unit work better than it originally did! But then, its a Nissan. Good work done fast!
Long story short I had an insurance claim involving water and my car, I was really worried about my vehicle but the people at Franks Automotive kept me informed and help me feel at ease. Once I went to pick up my car I was super happy, the car looked great, and when I learned what they did to restore the car, I was impressed at how thorough they were. What stuck out in my mind is that they were very concerned about my satisfaction, I can appreciate a business that cares about the customer.I cant speak for anyone but myself, but I am 100% satisfied and will return to them as long as they continue to provide this level of customer service!
A/C went out in my car. I took it to Franks in the morning. They replaced the condenser and I had my car back the same day. Fast, professional, and great work.
Be very careful. These guys will try to BLACKMAIL you into repairs you didnt ask for. My sons truck wouldnt start. That was a simple fix, corroded terminal, however, they noticed a leak in the brake system and found that it was almost out of brake fluid. While its true that this is a problem, the truck was still drivable. All my son needed to do was add some brake fluid and get the truck home where I could fix it. Its not like the slow leak from the master cylinder would cause a sudden catastrophic brake failure. But, now that they had noticed a problem that had to to with brakes, they claimed that the truck was unsafe to drive. They gave us two options. Pay them to fix it or pay a tow truck to take it off of their property. The person I talked to would not even try to work with us. He was a rude jerk that hung up on me while I was trying to ask for options. A GOOD shop would have noted the defects and had my son sign a waiver stating that he understood the risks and would not hold them liable. Hospitals do it. Its called signing out against medical advice. This shop prefers to scare, threaten and blackmail their customers. If you dont want to pay them for the work they want to do then they are going to make it as difficult as they can for you. They would not even give him the keys, even though he had paid for the repairs that were done. Im not sure thats even legal for them to do. They cant file a lien because he paid for it. No business has the right to seize your property without a lien. Then the jerk threatened to call the police if he saw my son drive the truck. Shops in New York used to be able to red tag and hold a vehicle they deemed unsafe, but the practice was so abused that a law was passed in that state to make it illegal. I havent researched the Texas laws yet, but its disgraceful practice, even if its legal (which it may not be).Follow up: Now that we have the truck back, it turns out that their diagnosis of corroded battery terminals was WRONG!! So we got nothing but a bad experience and paid for it. Way to go Frank, youre a rip off artist. I guess they were so excited about the extra work they thought they would con us into that they didnt pay any attention to the ACTUAL problem that we asked them to fix. What a disgraceful business. Frank, you should be ashamed, if you had any morals or conscience. In response to Franks response. Upon receiving the vehicle from the tow truck driver, it would NOT start. You did NOT fix the original problem that it was brought in for. We paid and got NOTHING in return. Youre techs absolutely FAILED at the diagnosis. We never asked you to inspect the vehicle. We never authorized you to inspect the vehicle. All we asked you to do was find out why it was intermittently not starting. You FAILED to do what we asked for and instead looked for other things to charge us for. As soon as I made it clear that I wasnt going to have your shop do all the additional repairs that you suggested, your employee became rude, condescending and just a plain jerk. When I asked him to explain why it had to be picked up by a tow truck, why he wouldnt give my son the keys (since the bill had already been paid and you couldnt file a lien) and why we couldnt tow it ourselves, he said why am I talking to you? and hung up on me. If you want to be considered a professional shop then I suggest that you get some professional employees that are smart enough to interpret and explain your policies. This is the worst experience I have ever had at any auto shop, maybe at any business, and I plan to make that known as far and wide as I possibly can.
An honest auto repair shop. A tire shop in town suggested I consider realignment for my car so my new tires would have the longest wear. I was told Franks Automotive has the equipment to accomplish the task. I made an appointment and the service was completed promptly. They put the car up on the rack and found the car did not require realignment after all, and I was not billed.I have not considered Franks as an option for auto repair; I always had taken the car to the dealer. Now knowing more about Franks Automotives capabilities for service and friendly knowledgeable staff, I plan to have them take care of my car and diesel pickup as well. Thank you!
I went into Franks yesterday because I hit something in the road, leaving a metal scrap hanging underneath my car. I knew Id get a discount through Franks being a AAA member. However, it didnt take long for them to check and fix the piece hanging for me! They gave me an estimate and let me know I could come back around summer to get it fixed and for now they fixed the piece of metal so its not dragging anymore, free of charge! I thought that was great customer service, and a relief to not get charged for something I thought I may be able to fix myself anyway! Thanks Franks!
Fast response with the dx and repairs. I liked the visuals sent via text. Pleased with the service!
I was charged 350 for a battery in my Nissan Versa and they took all day I had to pick up the car the next morning also I looked up the battery when I got home and found it on amazon for 120
Reasonably priced and they really take quality care of your vehicle
BEST auto place in San Marcos!! AMAZING service, Colton is awesome. Will always come here! Thank you Franks!
Cost was more than if I would have taken to the dealer. They broke part of my dash while diagnosing the problem and charged me for the part and labor for what they broke. Pro was they only took two days to fix what they broke and the original problem. I don’t like taking my vehicle to shops because of things like this so I try to fix what I can but this job was above my skill level and sure enough it was way more expensive then it should have been.
Top notch mechanic. Knowledgeable, skilled, FAST, and FAIR. Colton goes above and beyond. Won’t take my vehicles anywhere else.
Frank did an excellent job getting our car back on the road. Friendly staff and honest work.
This was our second time using Franks after several years and we found the quality of workmanship and courtesy has retained the same high level of professionalism. We will definitely be recommending Frank’s to all who have need of automotive repairs.
Great quality service! You can tell theyre very genuine, friendly people. My car needed a few new parts and it was ready the next day!
Did a great job taking care of my daughters car.
Recently I took my car to Frank’s for repairs. I was given a comprehensive assessment of the problem and recommendations for repairs. The staff was professional, respectful and honest. I will return for future service!
Great, fast and honest. I was relieved with the care and respect they gave me and my vehicle, I strongly recommend Franks Automotive Inc for and vehicular needs you have.
These guys will take care of you! They worked diligently to get my truck running again and even offered to give me a lift back to campus.
Great Service and friendly. Would use again.
They were honest about the price, nice and efficient. I also love the text with your cars health report, so helpful!
Went here in hopes of a good deal for college students. Had my girlfriend’s car towed a block and they charged $120 after a $50 student discount! This was just for the tow and diagnostics! They then proceeded to tell me they had to do over $1400 to “get the car running again”. I said no and took it to a shop in san antonio...cost me $250 to replace the starter...everything else was fine. Do not go to this place.
I won an oil change from Franks Automotive at a fundraising silent auction for the Martindale Volunteer Fire Department. So, already I like these guys for donating the gift certificate in the first place. I went and received very prompt friendly service. I was out of there in less than 30 minutes. And they use name brand, premium motor oil (Valvoline) too. I will be back!
Will NOT do business with this company again!!! They lied to me in my face!!! They got good reviews from Spanish and of course the price is not an arm and a leg because they help their own. All other nationalities will pay arm and leg and hair and an eye.
Franks automotive, is a great shop and convenience. Great mechanics.
I decided to wait a few days and cool off before I wrote this review primarily because I didnt want my anger to guide the way I rated and reviewed Franks. So here is how my experience went: I was recommended by Jiffy Lube to come to this place because one of my headlights was not working even with a new bulb. So when I arrive I already have an idea of what is wrong with the car which was one of the plugs the headlight attached to and I explained this to the girl who works at the front counter and then to Bob the manager and he came out and checked it out. After approx 2 hours of waiting and hearing the two front desk people talking to each other in spanish while awkwardly staring at me Bob finally pulls the car in and indeed diagnose the issue as there being a problem with the plug. So they order a new plug which took about another additional hour and Bob calls me to the desk. He informs me that the part is 6-8 dollars and that the labor included would come out to 58 dollars. Now I know what you are thinking what a rip off and why would I pay? Well I had no choice as I dont know how to discard the old plug and put on the new one nor do I know where to buy this piece so reluctantly I agreed to this and it was quite upsetting. So after about 10 minutes of work they finally attach the plug and roll the car out. One of the Mechanics informs Bob that there is an outer piece that holds the light bulb in place that is missing. Bob then waste more of my time by trying to find it but comes to the conclusion that he has lost it and would have to order in another one. So he writes on the back of his business card AC Check Basic 40.00 No Charge for the inconvenience since earlier I informed him my A/C was messing up. He tells me he has ordered the part and to come back Monday and keep in mind it is Friday at this point in time. So Monday rolls around and I come by after class before I head to work ( I live and work in Austin BTW) and he tells the part has not arrived yet and that I can wait there since their guy usually brings parts in the afternoon, or have them call me. More upset than before I decided I will come back Wednesday. So Wednesday rolls around and I receive a call after class which was about 11:00 AM that they finally have the part and I knew I would have to deal with this place one more time. So I go there and Bob comes outside and puts the part on and I leave being annoyed at how much more simple this could of gone.To sum things up I wouldnt return here again even with a free $40.00 A/C check. I rather hot air be blowing on me all day then have to spend another day or dime at this place again. I will be honest though and say I genuinely believe they want to help people but they also want to rip people off and are disorganized and slow and hence a two star rating rather than a one star.
Franks Automotive has been my go-to place in San Marcos since i got here 3 years ago. They did about $1000 worth of work on my engine for about $600 last year and the problem never came back. Ive called asking about problems and they gave me options to try myself other than bringing it in, which saved me a couple hundred dollars. The staff has always been courteous, the service timely, and the experience above-par. Whenever someone asks about a shop I recommend Franks. One thing to note is that they do NOT do body work, just so you know before you give them a call.
If you like spending money and replacing parts that do not need replacing, these are your guys.
Super late on this review, but very helpful and informative with my vehicle and taking care of it!
The Front Staff; Mark, Colton & Bob take care of my old trucks needs in every way. Thank you for fine service.
I have been using Franks for a few years and am very happy with the level of service. Much better service than the Mercedes dealerships and much much better price!
The guys at Frank’s are the only ones I trust with my car. I’m not the best driver so I’ve had to take my Kia in quite a bit this year and they always have her just like new when they say they will! They also take care of all my roommates cars as well and we never have any problems after we drive off the lot. Thankyou, guys!-Me and the roomies
I know my car is in good hands when I bring it to Franks. These folks are family.
Their mechanic lost my keys and I had to wait two hours after my car was done being worked on to get it home.
We have taken our vehicles to Franks for over 20 years. Good and Honest Service is what keeps us coming back.
I had a good experience here, George took care of my Volkswagen. I was impressed they did a good job.
Mechanics here know what theyre doing but charge a arm and a leg for the little things that after I had them run a diagnostics changed myself. Took literally 20 mins and tried to charge me $850. I will never be going back theyre crooks who want all your hard earned money!
Was very friendly did great service. Vehicle was finished day ahead of schedule.
Ive brought my car to this place several times now and so far Ive been impressed with the service. The guys Ive dealt with have yet to try to trick me into paying more or getting services that werent needed. In fact they have talked me out of expensive procedures that they realized were completely unnecessary and usually work towards finding the simple solution and not the expensive one.
Awesome service, highly recommend. Excellent communication.
