The line to check out was the longest Ive ever seen in any store, but they were really working fast and I was out of there in no time. School starts in a few days and thats the place to go for getting kids outfitted. For men, very limited on clothing. Also for men, very frustrating that none of the rods and reels have prices marked. Ill go somewhere else next time even though Im likely to spend more.

A nice Academy Store. Clean. Well stocked and checkout was quick without a lot of waiting in line. I like it when they have enough cashiers at a place

Everything at this academy is great, up until you hit check out. We were buying stuff and the total was about $150, and during our check out we had 2 workers ask us up to +5 times to sign up with their Academy card while checking out. Saying it will save you 5% off purchases and its a really good turns out it wasnt just a simple sign up like any other business has. It was a whole Academy credit card, and the only way to pay for the $150 is to wait till the credit card comes in the mail. We didnt want to sign up for a credit card, and we dont even visit academy all that often. We just wanted to buy what we needed and leave. We couldnt leave till we signed up.Just a heads up if they ask if you want to sign up, say NO; a thousand times if you have to.

Carlos (shoulder length hair/Hispanic), working at the gun counter, decided to wait until the entire process was almost over before telling me that my current address had to be on my ID. He initially saw me and ignored me. Carlos is very condescending towards customers and one day he’ll do it to the wrong person.You would think someone that works selling guns would say that upfront. I asked for a refund and they said I had to do it online and he wrote down the order number as if I couldn’t see it for myself in the email. They treat you like you’re less here, I will not return.

Nice store. Check out was a little crowded and leaves you feeling closed in. Very good footwear selection. Including a surprising variety of options in work boots. I was impressed with that and the fishing apparel choices that they have on the floor and in stock.

They have nearly everything you would need for outdoors activities and reasonable prices.

The exercise equipment lacked selection, only 1 type of yoga mat the folding which I bought and do like it, only 1 type of arm/leg weights so I had to buy it. I could have drove to Selma but did not have time, I probably will not shop at this location again.

Great selection of clothing and sporting goods. I got some shirts there the other day that are dry wear shirts. Theyre pretty good at keeping me cool

I always get the pellets for my pellet grill here. They have them at a good price.

Waited 20 mins for curbside. Nobody came out so I called on six different occasions and there was no answer at the store. It was a complete wasted trip. Now we have to make a second trip back up there for curbside.

Limited sales people on the floor, could not find an item we had purchased there before. Asked for help and still no one came, so a special trip for a shoe insert was wasted.

I do t have any complaints other than there is little to no ammo available - due to a shortage most everywhere except online I’m finding. Their boating/kayaking gear is sparse as with their golf club (sets) choice….ALL possibly due to the post-Covid economic downside availability/supply of items “made in China” although the kayaking gear has always been sparse in my opinion.

I went in looking for the tru-oil and also walked out with a knife sharpening set.Great items something that I have been wanting. 😃

A little sad the BCG prices have gone up but other then that the line went fast and the store was very well kept.

As far as Academy stores do this one is pretty good, I recommend this store

Good place for outdoor and sport needs. it has pretty much a general sense of things. id rank it 3.5 out of 5 bc their customer service could need more work, lack of open registers despite having a large amout of workers, there isnt employees going out of their way to ask if you need help. they arent bad employees, theyre nice, they do their job right and keep a tight shift, clean, no mess, and if you have a question theyre on it, but as far as an exceptional store goes, its just needs some tweeking. i recommend this store for most outdoor needs, however, if you have a specific item you need, i doubt theyll have it.

Were living in an upside down world where the customer has to be inconvenienced so the employees arent. The store closed at 9 pm and it was 8:15. They had a sign at the dressing room door saying it was closed. My husband told the attendant he needed to try something on. The attendant was reluctant but went to get a manager to let him in. Customer service is dead🥺

This Academy is kind of small and they dont have as much as the other stores do. I like Academy in general though. They almost always have what we need and then some and they always have good prices.

Needed wide size shoes. Have been there several times, couldnt find any my size.

I dont know how you can say bad things about Academy. My kids love all of a sports items and especially the fishing section. My husband loves the gun section. We all love the camping department that has the greatest selection of items that you can actually touch and check-out versus just buying on Amazon and watching YouTube videos. The shoe selection is also amazing, this is my go-to for my running shoes. Theyre always really excellent about returns or items that just dont fit well. They have everything here that we need for the pool and an amazing selection of seasonal items to add to the list. Thank God for Academy :-)

The store has a nice selection of shorts and tshirt, but the shoe game was lame. Overall still pretty good.

Line was pretty long at checkout, only 1 cashier at first.. it was a Sunday,, my guess, was short staffed.. but, all-in -all everything (checked out) ok 👌..Get it? Checked out 😆🤣.

This is a clean location. Staff was ok but not very out of their way helpful.

They are so concerned about the spread of the covid that they have someone at the front door monitoring the baskets and people coming in to make sure they have face masks on yet here during the holiday season they only have four cashiers and a line of people going down through the store. Seems a whole lot safer to get people in and out more quickly than people having to stand in line. That just makes good common sense. Needless to say I left everything I was planning to purchase.

Need more hunting supply such as clothing and gear to get ready for upcoming seasons.

I can spend several hours looking at all the Sporting Goods and apparel. The sad part is that Ive never been approached for help during the hours I have spent there...

Friendly staff and never feels crowded despite high volume of customers. Some shelves were bare and a lot of products werent clearly labeled or displayed with their prices, though, there are plenty of price checker locations throughout the store.

Firearms staff could be better trained but they do try.

I wanted to get in the san Marcos river to fish. Stopped to get some waders. Picked up a pair like $75, they worked well. I picked them up 3 years ago. Just now doing review because they just now sprung a leak when we were in lake Huron in Michigan. I used the mess out of them. Best pair I have ever had. I am not into name brands but the ones I picked up in Sam Marcos held up well. I suffered through the leak but will be stopping at an academy sometime soon to grab another pair.

This is a smaller location, but the employees have always been great. They do carry most items, and some not found at other Academy stores. It is always clean and fairly well organized.

I desperately needed some wide walking shoes, because the ones I had were suddenly squeezing the toes on my left foot. I found a pair of Skechers Track Knockhill online. I saw a credit card advertisement that would give me $15.00 off my first purchase. I tried to checkout, but I was not able to get the $15 credit. I went to the store and found the shoes and took them to the cashier. I told her my story and she scanned the barcode on my drivers license, which pulled up the credit card application and instantly took off the $15. I thanked her very much and would have put her name in this review, but her name was not on the receipt. Very smooth transaction. A+++++

The selection since KKR bought the stores has gotten a little thin. But other than that fine.

So much to do and so much to buy! Great deals and many items to choose from. I really didnt recieve help from from any employees which I feel they could have been attentive. There were alot of stickers which would have been easy to help out if I was in need.

Gotta address the shoe selection. Its dominated by Nike, New Balance, Sketchers, and Brooks. Essentially no selection of zero drop shoes. Maybe Im just out of touch with what people buy off the shelf. I was hoping to go try on some shoes, but do to the dominance of main stream cookie cutter shoe selection, I went back to on line shopping, which I really dont like doing with shoes.

Specifically a girl named Kristen, she helped me find what I was looking for quickly, and even though the store was extremely busy, she did not rush me, or make me feel like I was wasting her time (many other retailers do this too much.). Back to school shopping for my teenage son was a breeze.

Dirty and very disorganized. They had very few items I was looking for. Store help and cashiers were in short supply as well.

Two stars for failing to enforce any kind of mask rules here. I know the governor lifted the mandate, but the virus doesnt care. Apparently, Academy doesnt care either. Lots of customers without masks and employees wearing them incorrectly. If theyre unwilling to require masks for customers, they could at least require employees to follow COVID protocols.

Not for the casual shopping, but will satisfy the sports minded. Shocked to see the lack of ammo. If youre lucky they have your load in limited quantities.

Academy Sports + Outdoors in San Marcos is my go to for all things sport and recreation. The staff is very friendly and always there to help. Their selection of firearms and outdoor goods is excellent.

Employee in the bike section early this afternoon (8.22.20 @ 12:30pm - Didnt catch his name, young guy with blonde hair) was very knowledgeable and professional. He spent 20 minutes talking to us about the different bikes they had in stock. Competitive prices on inventory too.
