This place is great! Came in with my 4.5 year old to spend her allowance, and the cashier (Michelle) was fantastic! She talked to my daughter about what she liked, and gave great recommendations. I cant wait to go back, and neither can my daughter.Looking around, it looked like a good selection of games for all ages and experience.
Will was so helpful and nice. There are a lot of great finds here, we’ll definitely be back.
The best comic and gaming store in the south bay has a new amazing location! Just swung by for free comic book day and the place is amazing!
Absolutely love this place. Staff is knowledgeable and friendly. Amazing selections of comics, games, and accessories. The new location is great..
Best friendly local game store in the bay area! Super knowledgeable and friendly staff, great game selection and lots of table space to play whatever type of games tickle your fancy make isle of gamers a fantastic place. And now in their new more spacious location they also have a VIP player room that you can rent out by the hour for private gaming parties👍
Great collection, friendly and helpful staff. Can highly recommend!
I’ll definitely come here again in the future. This is a pretty big hobby game store with a solid amount of Warhammer minis, paints, and codices. The person at the front desk was very nice and helpful.
My fiancé and I absolutely loved visiting here for the first time! The staff members were friendly while enforcing health restrictions, and the store was very well organized. We got what we wanted easily and really like the point card system thatll allow for a $10 discount in the future. Hopefully well have a chance to use their rental system too!
I believe this store is one of the best place where kind staffs, and various merchandise are located. I love visiting this place to get board game and mostly Pokemon boosters. I definitely recommend this shop!
I love this place. Its been a home away from home for years. Ive seen countless customers become employees become friends and I truly feel like my time here is valued and our voices are listened to
Im super new to the area and decided to check this place out, boy was I glad I did! Allison was super nice and knowledgeable, she made some great suggestions. Ill definitely be returning and recommending this place to my friends.
Great local board game store, the staff are very friendly, easy to talk to, and knowledgeable. Open and sanitized during covid. Id highly recommend coming here during the pandemic to support this excellent local business.
I needed a green dragon mini for a major story arc in my campaign, and Isle and their sister store Illusive Comics went out of their way to help me get what I needed. They held the mini for me, offered to commission them to paint the mini for me, and when I wanted to do it myself, they showed me exactly what I’d need, tips and tricks, and told me to call either store if I had any questions about painting, as it was my first time painting any miniature at all. These people (especially Ian) simply went above and beyond a local game store, but they were friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable. Be sure to give them your business.
Very helpful And informative staff. A great place to make some family & friend gaming options during this Covid season. Thank you guys, so much!
Great stock, super knowledgeable staff and excellent Covid safety procedures!Give these guys a starting point and they will have 5 great recommendations for games to play or model painting tips to try :)
Always friendly and super helpful!
Great local board game shop with friendly staff and welcoming atmosphere
Friendly and helpful staff!
Super friendly staff and the owner Anna is amazing. The whole atmosphere of this store is positive and welcoming. Ive played in their organized events and had fun every time. For whatever divine reason this establishment attracts awesome people. It is whimsically decorated, clean, well organized, and has a large stock of good games. I highly recommend this store to anyone who is into gaming.
Super friendly staff, the most welcoming and best presented and organized hobby & board game store Ive ever been in
This is my go-to board game store in the area. Staff is really friendly.
Ive been going to this place for my board game needs for years! The staff is friendly and they are knowledgeable! Theyre not letting anyone touch the games because of COVID-19, but theyll be happy to handle them for you so you can look at all sides of the box. Also, they replied to this review and they said that they give out gloves to customers to handle the games with.
Man they lied to me I drove a distance to get here was told they sell single pokemon cards, I even asked repeatedly and said yes. Once I got here they told me they dont sell no singles at all for pokemon .
Friendly, both staff and gamers. Good selection of stuff. Games for rent. Cool place.
Ive only visited the store twice now, but on both occasions Ive been greeted with very friendly service and the staff answered my questions with helpful answers, even if it meant less business for them. One exchange went as follows:Me: Do I need primer for my miniatures? I see you guys are selling Primer.Clerk: Oh you bought that miniature? Dont worry about it. You dont need to prime those.Ill gladly come back to buy more miniatures and support them.
Cozy game store with a giant game library and a decent selection of product. The staff were friendly enough and knowledgeable. The patience they showed a complete newbie to the hobby was remarkable, and the fact that they were training each other on games was also pretty impressive.
I visit here almost every weekend with my group and I absolutely love the place. This is one of the best hangouts places in the area. Has a huge variety of board games here. The store guys are extremely polite and help us explore new games !! You can purchase your choice of set here as well and at times they put up some really good discounts
Our go to for games, dice, miniatures.... pretty much anything! They have board games to rent. Have you wanted to try out a game but didnt want to buy it first? Go and play it there! They have a wall of games you can rent! Check out their calendar. They run DnD games as well as many others. Im not sure I am doing them justice. There are so many amazing things about this store! Seriously, check Isle of Gamers. I keep looking for reasons to go back!
We low key board gamers in our house. We love to come here to find new, cool family games. They also have a rent / try in store section that we love. We were able to take a $70 game out of the box and let our 8 year olds try it out before buying. This is, for us, the major pull of in store buying. Which is why we dont care if Amazon is slightly cheaper sometimes. Also, he staff are incredibly friendly and helpful. (And extremely knowledgeable to boot!)
Not the deepest inventory. Bit the staff very much makes up for it. They are welcoming and friendly and want to make sure that you can find what you are looking for. Great gaming spaces as well
This is a great place to shop, to play, to learn new games. One weekly event I really like is Isle Teach You (used to be called Gamer Overboard!) where theyll teach different games each week to whoever shows up. You can also rent games there, play in tournaments--the staff is super friendly, and so are all of the other gamers Ive played with.
A great place to buy and play games. The staff is really friendly and knowledgeable and everyone is welcome. They offer great summer camps for kids, too.
Awesome staff and an extremely welcoming atmosphere. Great place to try out some new games or join one of the daily events! Playing here has always been a wonderful experience!
So, the pic I posted is from their washroom.Must say..they have got the great sense of humour.Apart from this..they have lots and lots of games. A paradise for board gamers.
A great place to get board games and minis. The staff is knowledgeable, helpful, and very nice! They also have loyalty cards that get you a discount after collecting all the stamps (you get one stamp for each $10 you spend).
This place is fantastic. Great for female gamers and solo players. Clean, brightly lit, and creatively decorated, it is a comfortable spot to hang out with the wonderful, welcoming community that seems to populate the store. They host many activities throughout the week. I attended a Pathfinder Society on the spur of the moment. Our group decided to share the cost of the VIP room. Only 25 dollars total and we were granted access to a quiet, private gaming space that was heavily themed to resemble a cabin on a ship. Loved my visit, can’t wait to return!
I very seldom write reviews, but I must say that Ive had nothing but positive interactions with staff here. Theyve gotten to know me on a first name basis, remember past games Ive purchased in order to suggest others that may interest me, and are extremely friendly and knowledgeable. Additionally, the atmosphere always feels warm and inviting, and the store is always packed with other tabletop enthusiasts with a multitude of games being played at any point in the day, even late at night. For me, the quality experience they offer there trumps the ability to simply order games online, as Id much rather make the long(ish) trip there to support their business.
Great space - clean and well organized. Prices are impressive for a brick and mortar store. Their game rental program is *fabulous* (play it before you buy it) and I love the sound of their weekly mini-Cons to introduce players to new games. Their staff is knowledgeable and polite, and their loyalty rewards dont expire!
A fantastic game store. Its clearly owned by someone with both the self respect and the willingness to properly invest in creating both a wonderful atmosphere and a community of gamers. This is what most game stores want to be like when they grow up.
Go here. Just do it. Board games, MTG, 40k, DnD and the space to play it all. There was never any pressure to buy anything, and the cute blonde who worked there was just so excited and passionate about everything they had in stock. Even if your going just to check it out. Do it.
Isle of Gamers is an offshoot of the much-beloved Illusive Comics, located just across El Camino Real. This new store is beautiful. The chairs are comfy. The tables are plenty. The games in stock are numerous. The demo library is large. The staff is helpful and friendly. Organized events are held daily. What more could one want from a game store?!?!
Isle of Gamers is great for many reasons. Chief of which is that they have a number of board games to test. I like this the best as it allows you test a few games you might be interested in, which lead you to buy.Their selection of board games is impressive as they have games from Armada to Tokaido. The obvious game they probably sport the most is Magic: The Gathering, but it is varied. With plenty of seating, space, and selection, and a sister store across the way, its a pretty decent place to be to play games for all ages. Staff is extremely friendly, and the space is very comfortable to be.
Impressive selection of games and a great trial library! Staff is super friendly and helpful, and it looks like theyre running events all the time!
Love the staff and the people I meet here. If you really want to make new friends or geek out in a safe place with a diverse selection of entertainment and people I cant recommend this enough
Very pleasant helpful staff, amazing collection of games and a great place to hang out. Loved it !!
Great laid back atmosphere. Great for kids. Plentiful game selection. Usually something is on sale. If you arent sure about a game they have demo copies you can play. You are also welcome to bring your own games from home. Great for groups. Great for magic the gathering.
Great place to buy games, nice selection of cards and comic book memorobilia. They also have a game night once a week with games on their walls to use for free. Definitely recommend ✊👌👍
Was there today for a few hours of X-Wing. Awesome community of gamers.
Great place to play and kind of tabletop game, and z friendly atmosphere for the whole family. They welcome gamers of all creeds and ages. Staff is helpful. I preorder a mini they were out of and it was not a hard process. They asked which brand and which style had it ordered in seconds. I highly recommend this shop for new and advanced players.
Ive been going to Illusive Comics and Isle of Gamers for several years. Every experience Ive had in Isle of Gamers has been a good one. Employees are nice and very informative, and dont try to push a sale which is a issue Ive faces at other stores. Prices are reasonably priced above retail.Their stock of games is good and diverse. Ive been here dozens of times and most often they have the games I want or theyre happy enough to order it for you if available. There is also plenty of gaming space available and it has been really convinient when none of my friends could host.Overall a great LGS that is a staple of Santa Clara.
Perfect place to tryout different kinds of board games for free and hang out with friends. The fact that they are open till 12am is a big bonus. The staff are friendly.
Great game store with a wide selection. The owner suggested two new games to us after we described the games weve enjoyed in the past. About half the store is open tables for playing/trying out games, or for D&D sessions. Definitely will be coming back the next time I want a board game, and Im strongly considering coming for D&D as well.
Not much of a MTG singles selection... but the owner is cool and polite lots of room for gaming. Great shop
This place is exciting due to its huge board game library and space in which to play. Its a fun night out and the friendly staff make you feel like coming back again and again. I always make sure to buy a little something because they have some really interesting and unique products.
Great place for Nerds and boardgamers. Got cool stuff from here and they foster gaming communities.
Ive been coming to Isle for several years. Lovely friendly local game store. Excellent staff who are knowledgeable, passionate, and friendly. Great board game nights too!
An amazing place. Staff is hella chill and fun. Will for sure help you out, have a nice conversation and put a smile on your face
Very helpful customer service.
Its definitely the best geek environment I been to in San Jose. Friendly staff members, well decorated, and have events for people.I mostly come to this store for Dungeons and Dragons. My opinion they need to increase the tables by one at least. Too many players get denied by the spaces already taken and I had few games where I left out because Warhorn kick me out sign up. If just one more table was added then bet lot of players be very joyful. The store has a wifi great for customers who are using it during events, really helps out players with questions of games.Variety of board games can be found here. Miniatures for Dungeons and Dragons as well other games like a star wars one. Im not one hundred percent of card sleeves but definitely on dice, dice trays, dice bags, etc.If youre a geek around the are then Isle of Gamers is top place to go.
Great place for board Gamers. Almost all the games are available. Super friendly staff! Open till 12:00AM!
Great place for all your gaming needs! Whether youre looking to buy or play games, they can help you find what you need, and a group to play with.
This place actually ended up being a great night with my wife while their knowledgable staff assisted us with choosing a game took the time to sit and teach us to play it. we ended up having such a great time we purchased the game and they get my business whenever I need something. thanks for the unparalleled customer service!!! keep it up
Great selection of games with a great service included :)
Friendly, knowledgeable staff create a welcoming and inclusive environment so everyone can enjoy being their gamer-selves!
I was visiting this city for a some tech training, and had the evenings free with nothing to do but more studying. One night, I wanted a break and looked around for something to do, and found Isle of Gamers. I was welcomed with open arms in this place, and allowed to play in a game despite my being a total stranger to everyone. Plus, it only cost me one dollar. One dollar! You cant ask for better. I bought some dice so that I could help support the store, it seemed the least I could do. I highly recommend this place, the staff and patrons are friendly and welcoming and its really a great environment.
Great gaming store, super staff and fun Thursday evening gatherings!
Very friendly and helpful staff. Prices for games are a bit high, but the service and selection are worth it.
Fantastic store!! Great people that know their games and are happy to teach you how to play too!!
They were very helpful, and were able to make quote a few recommendations when trying to find some gifts
Very welcoming shop, tons of events all the time, great selection, and the crowd is super friendly there, dont hesitate, go!
Fantastic gaming location. I play D&D in their Adventures league games on Tuesdays and Wednesdays and Im looking forward to the magic pre-release coming up this weekend. The staff is very friendly, they have decent prices on drinks and snacks for gaming and tons of seating and table space. Come on down and play a game it will be a lot of fun!
Just down grading from 5 stars to 3. They keep changing store policies, not as community oriented as they used to be.
I’m here every week for Dungeons and Dragons and absolutely love Isle of Gamers. The prices are fair, especially considering the loyalty program (1 stamp per $10 spent, 10 stamps = $10 off), and I appreciate that they have snacks and drinks.
They have a very good collection of games and are open until 12 which was convenient as it does take time to learn new games!
Friendly atmosphere, fun games, tons of stock! Support your friendly local game store.
Ive never been in the store, but always see lots of people having fun
Pretty much everything youd want in a gaming store. Friendly staff, lots of events, nice people, a lot of demo games for open gaming.
Friendly staff, lots of great games. Definitely worth checking out for all game lovers.
Used to be a fantastic place to play. However, after a change in staffing, it is clinically business like and there is abundant favoritism
Friendly, efficient, and welcoming. Had a very enjoyable MtG prerelease there.
Fantastic selection of board games in an organized and clean store. Their sister store Illusive Comics & Games thats 1.5 miles away is equally organized and well stocked. The owner Anna and staff were helpful in recommending board games to me for my group of 6-7 players. They had in stock all the games on my shopping list, including Hanabit Deluxe, Dixit, and Sushi Go Party. I picked up The Resistance from their recommendation, and it turned out to be the favorite game of my group. The game caused many raucous and hilarious situations.
Great place to play, and a very welcoming community.
There at least twice a week fun place to meet people and play games
Great selection of games! Staff was helpful with recommendations.
Awesome! 5 stars.
Great place to pick up games, minifigures, and board/card gaming accessories. Hosts a variety of events like D&D Adventurers League, Pathfinder Society, and MTG events.
Great place to demo board games. They host d&d games and MTG.
Very friendly staff and nice vibe overall.
A great place with a friendly atmosphere and staff who are more than willing to assist you and give recommendations based on your interests or the kind of game youre looking for. Also a great place to hang out and play a game or two.
The store is located in a really decrepit mall where, no matter how hard you try, its difficult to feel safe; like 1980s Detroit.... The parking lot has more potholes than it does parking spaces and the store fronts look like stock photos of urban decay and blight. While these arent the stores fault, they are the stores issue especially considering they are the ones who choose the location. As for the store itself, the selection of games seems really limited and the staff didnt seem interested in helping me, greeting me, or making me feel welcome. In fact the only interaction they had with me was to shake me down for money, as in, i went there to play board games with friends and the guy comes over and says you know you all have to spend $5 while your here (a table fee apparently which is poorly signed, if they posted at all)Yes i get it, they have rent to pay and everything else but a $5 per person per visit table fee is rather much.I would rather go to a different store where i felt welcome and appreciated as a customer than here. The store itself is extremely loud and they bought these fancy chairs which are quite horrible... they are so low to the ground and they have backs that go way to far back so trying to sit in them means you lean way back and bonk heads with the person behind you, that is when other people are constantly bonking your head as they try to get in and out between the tables.I get it, the store is trying to make money and they are trying to get as many people as they can into the store at the tables and everything but it feels like a budget airline not a nice place where i feel like a valued customer who is appreciated.
Great vibe! When it comes to comes to Game stores this one is for sure one the best :)
Super friendly staff, nice selection of things, recommend
Great board game store. As a warning though, its mostly board games, a fair bit of dnd stuff and very little tabletop war games. You can find scythe and its various expansions, dnd minis and dice for days, but dont expect to get a new warhammer army here. The incredible staff know their games and can recommend, demo or teach a huge variety of games.Wonderful themed private rooms that Ive seen but not used. Very cozy and not cramped from what Ive seen.Clean bathroom that is stocked well (they even have some feminine toiletries for free in there just in case)Plenty of space to game with tons of chairs available. And a giant demo section to try out many games brand new and classic for free. They do politely ask to spend at least $5 a person on their website and some signage, but you can just buy a magic booster or some snacks and basically get the huge demo library as a bonus. You can also rent games from their library, but I havent done so myself so cant say much on that. They also have free use lockers to store your small items while youre playing.Check the calandar for events like magic, board game teaching or even just pick up games.
Great collection of games and cheap rental rates! Always keep going back for more.
Im primarily a video gamer who has recently caught the modern board gaming bug. However, I am not interested in Magic: The Gathering whatsoever, so I cant really speak to that very active scenes presence at this location, other than they clearly do carry at least some MtG stuff. In my opinion, this store is everything a local game shop should be, hindered only by its relatively small size. The staff is super friendly and engaging. They actively host all kinds of special events. At least half the floor space is dedicated to open gaming space which can be used without reservations or fees. The selection of demo games is massive. Their rewards program is extremely generous compared to most stores nowadays. They have plenty of snacks, which are admittedly expensive, but reasonable considering the previous points. Really, this place is a gamers paradise. The only issue I have is that the retail part of the business is so small that you really cant expect to go in and find a specific title you want. Im sure you can order or preorder anything, but at that point, you may as well buy online, save money, and get faster shipping. If youre a casual gamer who is just looking for any board or card game in general, then thats perfectly fine. You can go in, ask questions, find a suitable title, and walk away perfectly happy with a new game. But this place is clearly by and for gamers, and having such a small selection does affect them more.So in summary, this store is a blessing, and deserves a full 5 stars and a round of applause. However, just because a game is common, popular, or highly awarded, dont expect them to necessarily have it in stock, because the retail section only makes up about 20% of the floor space.EDIT: In my original review, I listed several discrepancies in their stock, such as having expansions but not base games, but in the weeks since, theyve stocked many of the titles I listed. So in fairness to them, I think they probably rotate stock frequently, so if theres a title you want, ask and they may have it. This is really a major improvement over the only weakness I had perceived.
A lot of choices of board games, good for both amateurs and experienced gamers. Staff is super nice and helpful.
My kid and I play the Pokemon card game here almost every Sunday. Their Pokemon selection is growing.
Always a good place to indulge my inner tcg side.
