I am the owner of ARK Cooling in Bradenton CAC1817978. I had a somewhat unpleasant experience at Gemaire in Sarasota on Monday 9/14/15. I bought an electric meter on Saturday the 12th to find it didnt work. I went to return it on Monday and got the run around. This was partly my fault as I usually use a Fieldpiece but this time I got the cheap Gemaire brand meter. The amp reading would start at like 25 amps then slowly work its way down and it took 10 minutes to do so. This is holding the meter in the open air. The first clerk looked at it and seemed to think it worked fine. I was baffled. He sent me to the warranty clerk who also seemed to think the meter worked fine. He indicated he didnt know how to actually take an amp reading. I ask him if he ever worked in the field as an hvac person and he said no.....WOW.....This guy works at Gemaire and has his own office but doesnt know even basics of electricity or hvac. I know people like this are low pay but give me a break. Basic electricity, as in volt and amp readings, isnt that difficult. This highly educated inquisitive warranty manager told me to contact the manufactured and they might help me. I left and called Gemaire headquarters. I explained the situation and they put me on hold and called the store manager, Kevin. They told me he would call me directly in 15 minutes. Two hours passed and no call so I called him. He said no call came from the headquarters. Hmmm.....well thats what he told me so I assume that is the case but I have my suspicions. He too seemed to think the meter was fine and not defective as he explained his knowledgeable warranty manager looked at it. I explained you are taking the word of a person who doesnt even know basics of electricity. I explained further that if I install an A/C for one of my customers and it has a problem I step in to fix it I dont direct the customer to the manufacturer of the unit. The concept here is customer service. He relented and gave me my money back. A lot of time and calls over a cheap electric meter. It wasnt the money it was the principle. Have caution my fellow hvac peers or you too will get the run around. Use Gemaire when you have to, as they do sell Rheem units, but for equipment maybe you might want to go down the road. I went to Johnston and got a Fieldpiece for a cheap price and yes it is working well. Although I have used Gemaire in the past and they have come through for me. This was the only difficulty I have had. They are well staffed with good selection and the wait time is minimal. I do try to be fair and balanced about stuff.
