We loved this place.. nice cozy inviting and welcoming environment. Great freshly brewed coffee and yummy sandwiches. Friendly service by a lovely couple
Wonderful owner. She was very nice to talk with. Good food and coffee.
Always great every time I come in. Coffee is phenomenal, sandwiches are delicious and the owner is so sweet. I love this place so much. Best coffee shop I’ve ever been to
Really like this place. Super friendly owners and service, and yummy treats and coffee!!
Right off of Hw exit, but is quiet and secluded. Had pesto chicken sandwich. Was very tasty. The bread was toasted, nice & warm.
Really bad customer service. They cashier misunderstood my sister when taking her order and turned their back on her while she was still asking clarifying questions. After my sister tells me I go in and they continue to be disrespectful and don’t apologize for their mistake. I do not care if it is your business if you make a mistake apologize.
I bought 2 chocolate croissants, and they were totally old and hard. The lady said its because I didnt eat them right away. The store doesnt look clean or vibrant since they took over from surf city coffee.
Adorable little shop with a sweet couple running the place. One makes killer sandwiches and the other makes killer coffee! SOO good. I always get a Dirty Mocha Chai, and she makes it so well! And my sandwich is always a Ham, Egg, and Cheese on English muffin, but I hear from a coworker that their bagels are fantastic too. Enjoy and tip well! They deserve it!
EXTREMELY rude lady. Go to another coffee place or cafe.Came in to use restroom (road trip with 3 kids). As soon as I came in, told her I’d buy coffee but would like to use the restroom first. She gave attitude and was extremely terse. She waved me off saying only for customers. I told her again that I would buy coffee but needed to use the restroom first with the kids. She said, “People come and use it without buying. But fine.” I don’t understand why she was so rude when I said I’d buy coffee. After we used the restroom I ordered an americano as promised and even got a muffin for the kids. I asked what she had and she pointed to the counter saying it’s right there. I asked what a morning glory muffin was and she didn’t respond. I paid and took my coffee and muffin.Another patron came in after me and she was more cordial. Before leaving, I told the kids to go in the car and asked her if something I did was wrong. She was rude and put her hands up and walked away. I told her she was rude and I didn’t do anything wrong. The man (husband) apologized. I told her I was korean too (husband said they were) and said her attitude and treatment was wrong just because I wanted to use the restroom first before buying their products.Wish I recorded her and showed how outrageous this was. Must’ve had a really bad morning or something. Regardless, don’t treat a customer like that.
Small businesses are always worth supporting, especially if they offer a quality product. The coffee is much better than Starbucks and the food selection is really good. Try a breakfast sandwich.
Nice place to sit awhile especially if you are staying at the Hilton. Hilton does not offer breakfast now. 😕
A great mom and pop coffee shop. Friendly owners and great breakfast sandwiches.
The staff is very friendly and the decor is super fun! Even though the inside dining area is closed, I could still appreciate the effort put in to having such a comfortable environment. The creme brûlée coffee has a smooth coffee flavor and a sweet but not overwhelming flavor. The iced chai was sweet and spicy and had the perfect amount of milk. And the pastry, “Kelly’s bear claw” is sweet, flaky, and decadent! The cashier, Seung, even warmed it up for us!Overall, a wonderful experience, can’t wait to come back when the dining room is open!
Great coffee and the owner is super sweet, has books for adults and kids, coloring books as well,
Its a great coffee shop, and its not a chainTheir food menu is larger than SB, and less yuppie tchatchka and milkshakes-by-different-namesEasy on and off 17 both directions
Great coffee! orange chocolate Frappuccino was AMAZING
Came in to grab a cup a coffee and was treated horribly. They are
Great local Cafe. Has a variety of different coffee smoothies, drinks, sandwiches, and pastries at a great prices.
Orders come with a free side of disrespect.
Coffee was OK. Service was OK. A bit overpriced and wanted to charge me 50cents for cup holder (didnt at the end).
Very good coffee. Always stop while Im heading out of town. Good service too.
Never paid so much for frozen food and poor customer service. The breakfast burrito was just a poorly heated frozen burrito and the ‘Dawners’ breakfast sandwiches didn’t taste like they were fresh either. Walked up to the cashier and said “good morning” only to be greeted by “ya...?” - we stay in this area a lot and won’t be back, there’s a Starbucks and much better breakfast options up the street.
I can make better coffee in my house
Three words: Peanut. Butter. Mocha
This place has great coffee (smooth and flavorful without tasting burnt or bitter) and a lot of great food offerings. It has plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. Staff is friendly and service is pretty quick. I went during the afternoon and the music was mellow and the patrons were pretty chill. I was looking for a place to recharge and this place certainly met my needs. Definitely going back next time I’m in the area.
Super friendly staff. Great spot for really good coffee, roasted in-house, weekly. Free Wi-Fi and outdoor seating available. Breakfast sandwiches available all day. Other breads and foods available, too.
Always loved the coffee here. Its a great place that keeps local things local. The staff is always friendly and chipper, which is sometimes different for a coffee shop...They have never messed up an order for me.And its really nice to be able to call it in ahead of time if you are in a hurry. One of those great coffee shops that just helps the wake-up process that much more! Keep up the good work everyone!
Great coffee shop! We grabbed breakfast here 3 days in a row while staying in the area. The dawner breakfast sandwiches are yum and have lots of egg. We had a beach bum latte which was not too sweet but delicious. We also really enjoyed the tsunami chai shake (for my partner who doesnt do coffee). Highly recommend!
Good coffee and breakfast sandwiches. They also have a sitting area and bathroom for customers.
Great coffee & espresso options and inviting layout inside (plenty of books and local newspapers available, free WiFi and comfortable seating). This place gets five stars from me for the coffee alone!
I enjoy the coffee and pastries but the owner berates the employees in front of the patrons. Not only does it make the employee uncomfortable, it made me uncomfortable as well. If I hadn’t already paid I would’ve left for sure. I won’t be back just for that reason.
This is Scotts Valley’s hidden gem. The owner is this wonderful lady who makes sure you have the best kind of experience. Both of our coffees and the food was really high grade and the ambiance is very relaxing. Love it and will be going there regularly!
Cute cafe! Love their coffee. Don’t rec their açaí bowl. It was not good. Please don’t yell at your employees in front of us or at all...won’t come back if you keep acting like that.
My iced latte really hit the spot on a warm afternoon. The outside patio was a nice place to enjoy a conversation with friends.
Its better then starbucks people are nicer
The food was great and so was the service. I had just drip coffee and it was good. Not over crowded while I was there and I appreciated that! The atmosphere is fun and just as the name would suggest.
Love this place!! The shop is conveniently right off of the exit (Mt. Hermon exit), which makes it a perfect spot to stop for a cup of coffee while waiting for traffic on highway 17 to ease down. Friendly staff and energetic environment! Breakfast sandwich is served all day, and they are...absolutely DELICIOUS. A must-try for sure!
Enjoyed my freeze and the blazing fast net.
Went in for a cup of coffee with my mug (~20oz), but I only wanted ~12oz of coffee. So I ordered a 12oz. The lady at the register insisted that she charge me for a Large since my mug was big. I said she could just fill it 1/2 way. She insisted on charging me for a large. After I told her to pour me 12oz in their paper cup and Ill just pour it into my mug and throw it away -- which I was trying to avoid doing -- she then said she would still charge me for a Large because I was going to put milk in my coffee.I walked out and got coffee down the street (Coffee Cat) from a place with better service, friendlier staff, and probably better coffee. Well never know how good Surf Citys coffee is as their service is ATROCIOUS!Shop elsewhere as their service practices are illogical and rude.
True about the relaxing ambiance everyone mentions! High churn rate on the baristas but a nice selection of food and the coffee is good. Quieter than the Starbucks and the Wifi is pretty reliable.
Amazing coffee with a surfer town vibe. It really is a unique experience that you makes your day.
Good quality espresso. Nice/relaxing atmosphere.
Went in and got breakfast in the morning. Left a car there as I was meeting someone came back later to use the bathroom. After I came out,the young girl at the countertop was snotty and asked if I was ready for my order?I explained I didnt order anything. She said Yes exactly bathroom is for customers only I told her I was a customer, as I had been in with my family earlier! I asked her what the problem was she said her manager takes 75 cents off her check anytime someone use the bathroom and doesnt buy anything. Really?!
Very attentive service and the croissant sandwich was excellent.
Good coffee
Good coffee and a good staff, and they are just about as close to 17 as you can get in the area. We ended up with a drip coffee as well as a latte, and both were good. I also got the breakfast sandwich, which was ok, but was made with american cheese (not my thing). My wife got the oatmeal, which was also good, but was served in a coffee cup which made it somewhat difficult to add toppings to. I have been coming to this place, occasionally, for years, and will continue coming if I am in need of a convenient cup of coffee on the way to or from SC.
We stopped here while traveling. The coffee was great and the food options were great for breakfast. The staff was very fun and liked to talk.
Very nice place to have coffee and chat with friends...good things to eat also.
The place cosy, and relaxing. The service and food is great.
I was pleasantly surprised by the cuppa I bought here. The place looks like the typical, suburban, cafeteria coffee and repackaged Costco faire, but they served up some really decent brew!
I was passing through and I wanted to support a locally owned coffee shop and Im glad I did. The manager seamed to know everybody by name and was very friendly. The made to order breakfast was good as was the coffee. If I pass by there again I will stop by for a cup of Joe. Support your local businesses.
Mocha was ok~ Uses Surf City Coffee.
Great coffee. Very hospitable atmosphere and staff. I love hanging out here.
Good coffee, friendly staff, relaxed atmosphere. A nice break to my work day. Free WiFi too.
Rude owner, never a smile.
Easy going place to hunker down, I will be back.
Great coffee, great food, and a super friendly staff! Love it!
With new owners a few years back, less choices, lost the charm of small town coffee joint.
At the time I visited, on a Saturday afternoon, the place was staffed with only one barista and he seemed to pick the order in which he would fulfil orders at random. Waited for a ridiculously long time. Will not be returning .
Good coffee and some decent treats. A little cramped inside so not completely comfortable lounging.
I love Starbucks. Go ahead and be picky about your coffee. Its made exactly as you wish. Mine is venti mocha. 3 shots of espresso. Whole milk. Minus one shot of chocolate. EXTRA hot. Lots of whipped topping. Yummm. Now I want one. Lol
Best coffee shop that I have ever enjoyed.
Friendly staff and strong coffee!
Extremely friendly atmosphere with seemingly unlimited food and beverage choices.
Great place to stop for a coffee and restroom break off of 17 on the way back to San Francisco. Easy to get back on the freeway from here too and coffee is good.
This place is Bunk! They claim its organic but they only have 2 types of organic coffee and they Microwave thier Eggs for thier specialty breakfast sandwich! Ewww So disgusting I felt like i was getting exposed to radiation from the 3 huge microwaves behind the counter.
Friendly staff! Really good baked goods. Great coffee!
Get the vegan Black China scone with your coffee. Black China Bakery is an all vegan bakery in Santa Cruz so youre doubly supporting local independently owned ventures
Great coffee, good food (and a wide variety of cafe favorites), and a staff overwhelmed by its own popularity. Service gets backed up but the regulars dont mind and the seating area is nice and laid back.
Its ok for a drive up. I have had stale bagel. Day old Muffins over priced.
Every time Im in Scotts valley or passing through I stop inConvenient hwy 17 access
Good place for on the go coffee
Great vibe :) Nice place to sit with a book and a cup of coffee ☕
Friendly staff, comfortable...
I consider myself a coffee shop connoisseur. Whenever I travel, I seek them out and I spend a great deal of time in various coffee shops around the nation. This particular one is near the top of my list. The coffee is, of course, very good - but, aside from Starbucks (whom I feel over-roast their beans), most coffee shops have good-enough coffee. But its the other charm-based elements that make this particular shop noteworthy. First off, they have free WiFi. A seemingly obvious offering, but theirs is wide open, trustworthy and fast. They also have excellent homemade steel-cut oatmeal each morning with all the fixings (but once it runs out...theyre out...so get there early!) The accept all major forms of payment (a surprising number of shops dont accept AMEX, which is understandable due to AMEXs fees, but unfortunate for travelers like me). And finally, this place has some charm. Mentions of local activities, outdoor seating, a wide-variety of seating options, and a steady flow of locals coming/going throughout the day.All in all, a great option and highly recommended. The waitstaff are probably the only area where some may be turned off. They arent particularly friendly, but they do appear to be hard-working (staying busy even when customers arent queued up) and as a fellow business owner, I appreciate that. If youre looking for a bubbly barista who asks about the broach on your new blouse...this probably isnt the place.
Good coffee, clean, friendly and then fast WiFi tops it off for me.
Pretty good espresso and convenient. I would say about 2 1/2 stars for the espresso.
Cute shop with good coffee, good food and quick service
Good coffee, fast service, tasty muffins, and friendly staff.
Very pleasant place to get some coding/work done.
Cheese on sandwich was rubbery, and the PB mocha was like 1% PB and 99% mocha
Latte was steamed way too hot. But the food was pretty good.
Surf city coffee makes really delicious white chocolate mochas
The owner is not very nice. No customer service.
Ok, not great.
It was ok. There is better spots.
Store is always warm, clean, friendly
Very good! Nice people
I love this little local coffee shop
Coffe is great.
Yummy coffee, and food!!
Fast and curtious chill staff
Good basic breakfast food
Great coffee and great food
Great
Their pastries are awesome!
Awesome!
A bit pricey for blended tea
Coffee is fair, service was slow
