It was great to be back, and the staff made us feel welcome, had some great suggestions, and sparked a full on debate of Applejack vs Calvados!
Look, Im biased, because by riding the coattails of a regular or two I know, I sort of became a regular-by-proxy, which means I am contractually obligated to love the spot if I ever want to buy delicious ex-bourbon-barrel-aged rum there again - which I do. But that said, my intense positive feelings towards it are authentic; I wouldnt have tagged along and met my friends there so many times if it wasnt a great experience. At bottom, The Barrel Thief is a great place, full of great people, who give great recommendations, with great drinks, and great food, and the bottle shop has some truly great stuff. What more do you need?
Ya’ll like whiskey right???!!! Then make sure you run not walk to this spot in the heart of Fremont. They have a patio as well if you prefer dining al fresco!
Great outdoor space and several drink/snack options. Was happily surprised that they had happy hour deals! Enjoyed my experience but in no rush to return.
Abundant plant-based options and a fantastic cocktails. Super chill atmosphere as well. Highly recommend this place
Great pickup service and online ordering. Super efficient and great selection. Also taking one of their online tasting classes... very informative and fantastic choices.
Great cocktails. The mini its pies are always worth it. Dont forget to get the truffle popcorn
This place is a great wine bistro. It has a dark atmosphere and plenty of subtle lighting. I went here on a Tuesday during their all day happy hour. There is a bar seating area pictured in the middle of the establishment that seemed to just ask me to read my book with a glass of red. They have a diverse food menu and plenty of cocktails and spirits. It gets loud at times but that is how you know people are having a good time. Only reason it did not receive 5 stars; despite the fact I was slowly sipping my wine reading a book, after being intially served, I wasnt checked on once by the service staff in the hour I was there.Overall, great atmosphere and perfect for a during the week drink.
Great service and good food
Casual, relaxed place to have fun with a group of friends or a private date. Long list of wines from WA, CA, France, Spain; great selection to create a flight, or two, or three! Still looking for more complex and bold selections; it will be worth the search. Good small plates to pair with, too! Wiskey flights are next on my agenda!
Fantastic! Great drinks, great service!
Great selection of cocktails. It’s a tapa’s bar so the food selection is very limited. The salmon terrine was delicious. The Mac and cheese was ok. I was expecting a good layer of crumbs but it was a sprinkle. It’s good but tasted like velvetta (I love velvetta). Penne is not my favorite pasta choice for Mac cheese. I’m just being picky. I still ate it.
Went with work buddies. Happy hour is best hour. The good is great and the drinks are well poured. I loved it. It was the first time Id been there. Please note that a gratuity will be added to parties of 5 or more. I had no problem with it or or server, she was a delight. Just want people to know.
Good plane and fine collection of wines. Not a lot of places offer 90 red wines on glass. There are a lot of local wines (WA) in Lower price bracket but their selection gets better as you move up. Worth a try if you like wines!
Strong cocktails and good service. Pretty good mac n cheese, but their steak bites are just decent. Happy hour deals and happy hour menu arent that great in my opinion.
Good hooch selection of whiskey, scotch, bourbon, you name it. The bar staff is helpful in deciding what to try out if you want a tasting selection which is four half-ounce pours of different varieties. Four stars though because they also serve truffle popcorn which is an overwhelming smell throughout the restaurant.
Great environment, amazing variety of spirits and a good selection of beer as well. Experts in mixing cocktails. The wait staff absolutely knew what they were selling and the differences between the various spirits, something that is critical when giving recommendations among 20+ different kinds of one variety of liquor, i.e. tequila.
Ridiculously diverse alcohol menu, and lots of great food and snacks as well. I LOVE that they have flights (wine, whiskey, etc)! The atmosphere and service is also wonderful. And, considering its in downtown Fremont, parking is pretty easy. Definitely one of my favorite places in this area.
Ive walked by the Barrel Thief several times on my way to and from the Sunday market, and have always wanted to stop in. My drinking buddy and I finally visited this week and were really impressed! They have the perfect balance of running a nice establishment while also offering unpretentious food and friendly service. We went for a few rounds of beer and wine, all of which was tasty and had us buzzing nicely before long, and the maple bacon tartine, which was so simple but so delicious!I really have to make a note about the service here--theyre nice, quick, and wholly unpretentious, which was a pleasant surprise for a fancier place. We will definitely be back for more--The Barrel Thief is a great place for an intimate drink with a date or a casual round with friends.
No reserved seating, so seating can be kind of awkward. If you show up at 7pm the place is full so might be hard to find a spot. Nice dim atmosphere for a date or something.
We came here for a drink in a weekday. The place was pretty quiet.I had a beer, an old ale sour. Its special but this is what I was expecting and I was pleased. My wife had a glass of French white wine and it was disappointing. Shes not very demanding usually hence the minus one star.
Really cozy and welcoming atmosphere. Walls are lined with barrels and funky pieces of art. Its a great place to spend a couple fancy spirits and spend a few hours. The staff are friendly, welcoming, and very knowledgeable. Would definitely recommend!
The very best place to try a variety of drinks. You can try so many different wines, cocktails, and whiskeys. It has excellent service and stellar happy hour prices. Their food is tasty too.
This has been the monthly meeting place for the Seattle Whiskey Collective for the last few years. Right across the street from the Fremont Rocket the bar has over 300 different whiskies on the menu as well as myriad other spirits and a ton of wine. Reasonably priced and ably served the food has expanded a bit over the last few months to include small plates of charcuterie plus the truffle oil popcorn is the bomb.
I think this place is Great for a drink and small bites, but dont expect to get a full belly. In the few times Ive visited, their wine is delicious. I also enjoy the truffle popcorn. If you havent been, you should try it!
So much good whisky. This place is amazing. I could come back over and over and never have the same drink. Or I could have the same amazing drink over and over. Either way, its a win. Tartines are pretty damn good too.
Very cool bar. Their menu is very organized!! I I had a glass of wine and they had it sectioned off by glasses you could get for certain prices. Great service as well.
Fantastic curated selection of Scottish, International and American whiskies. And now a nice selection of Mezcals. Knowledgeable - and patient - staff and knowledgeable patrons too! One of my favorite stops in Fremont.
This place GETS IT! Sit at the bar and watch all the custom drinks theyre serving and witness booze making in action. Very cool experience!! Go! Now!! Drink and eat!! Oh, the duck appetizer and locks salmon is great.
First time here, and it was amazing. Great drink selections, warm and cozy atmosphere. All in all a good time with good company.
Stellar whiskey selection, lots of flights options as well. Dark lit and intimate. Great place.
Very nice atmosphere, excellent selection and quality, very good staff.
Very quaint bar with one of the best Manhattan I have ever had and it was Happy Hour! Great selection of cocktails, flights and variety of of liquors. Totally would come back
Excellent selection, service, knowledge base, atmosphere.
One of the few places in Seattle with a decent selection of wine by the glass. They also offer a huge selection of whiskies which are 50% off on sundays. Small menu, which might not hold a complete meal but will work for a small bite
Absolutely fabulous food. Shared the rosemary tater tots, a salad and burger with blue cheese with my friend. The tater tots were to die for and the burger was delicious as well. Cool space, wasnt too crowded on a weeknight. Wine was good also.
The staff and drinks are great here. Tuesdays are happy hour all day! And the happy hour specials are great! The truffle popcorn should NOT be skipped.
Nicolas makes the most amazing cocktails i have ever had... My husband and I have both had so much fun sitting at the bar having him create us whatever he can imagine. Man he is good... (and he is super fun and entertaining).
One of my favorite Fremont bars -- I wish they had a broader selection of food, but they make excellent cocktails.I like how dark and cozy it is -- although it can get a little loud for a quiet conversation at peak times. Seating is best for groups of 1-4, although they have a larger area at the front if you have a bigger group at an off-time.
Great cocktails, good food, however the service was not so great... When I asked our waitress for the check, she informed me that she was on break and could not cash us out, and informed me to go to the bar to cash out. Needless to say, she only received a $1 tip on a $121 tab.Otherwise, again, great cocktails, and good food. Not so good on the service.
Very authentic spot with lot of great taste in decoration, music, atmosphere with high quality and elegant service.
The ambience is fine, but we went there for drinks and dinner; The place is not really a dinner place, they only have really small plates of food, which I find overpriced. Also, they do have a large menu of different wines, but I was not happy with their quality (and we tried a few).
Its not on the top of my list but my husband loves it. I must say after taking friends there who really didnt like their drinks the lady who was serving us made them something else and was amazing about it. We didnt even complain she could just tell because they werent drinking much.
Cozy place, great for happy hour. They have a patio area as well. It can get quite busy sometimes. Last time I was there, one of the waitresses was very frustrated by how busy the place was, and she was not afraid to show it to the customers. Not a normal thing, though. Usually the waiters and waitresses are usually great.
Im only going to yelp because our waiter was such a sweetheart. Fabiola was sooo kind, welcoming and very sweet.. the food was not the greatest but i will come back again because the place was sooo romantic and a calm atmosphere
Extensive booze menu with whiskey, scotch, bourbon, gin, mezcal and wine. They have a lot of great tasting flights as well. The barrel aged cocktails are very smokey and were not something I would have again. Truffle popcorn was amazing!
Huge whiskey menu and amazing specials in a pretty spectacular space.
Great lists, whether its wine, beer or spirits! The prices are a bit more than necessary, but the small selection is delicious! Excellent atmosphere and wonderful staff :)
Awesome drinks, didnt explore too much of the food menu. The décor is nice, its dimly lit with lots of darker colors and has comfy chairs. Its got almost a romantic vibe but at the same time would be great for conversation with some friends over a drink or bite to eat.
Great whiskey bar. Their drinks are very good. Nice ambience and decor.
I never got service. Never got to try their cocktails. I went to the bar to ask for drinks and was informed that we were cut off because the whole patio was cut off. I cant give anything more than a one star to a place that refused me services.Edit: The owner response is mistaken. We were roped into another party. Its not good practice to accuse your neighbors of breaking the law. After I left The Barrel Thief, Add-a-ball gave me service as well as LTD and Norms. I am MAST certified so I know the law. We were denied service because the staff couldnt keep track of who was with who. Their response to deny service is both lazy and insulting. I have to reaffirm my decision to give The Barrel Thief a single star especially when the owner doubles down on their incorrect assumption.
Excellent wine and Boyce! Loved the decor, and seems to draw a nice group of people. I cannot wait to come back and try some more of their food. Flatbread we had was excellent.
Impressive selection of whiskeys and other spirits. They offer flights of various styles of spirits, which is great for people who like to experience new and different tastes. The atmosphere is cozy and classy, without trying too hard to be trendy. I highly recommend this place for pre- or post-dinner drinks and food.
Great cocktails, massive wine selection, fantastic ambiance. This is a great, and fancy, place to take a date for drinks.
As good a whiskey selection as youll find in Seattle. They have 100+ bourbons, scotches, and ryes in house. Nice relaxing atmosphere with staff who know their product. Truffle oil popcorn isnt to bad either.
Good beer selection for wine-and-spirits focus. Decent food menu too.
Amazing list of aged bourbon and whiskey. I got the Old Fashioned, really well balanced. Great location in Fremont. When Im the area, Ill definitely be back.
Really big selection, and the staff knows their wine. I was introduced to a Greek wine that I had never tried before that was absolutely fantastic.
Terrific atmosphere and excellent scotch. Their cocktails looked delicious too. Wipp definitely be back!
Amazing craft and barrel aged cocktails. Top notch whisk(e)y and wine selection. Dont forget to get a plate or two of their truffle popcorn.
Prepare for an expense, but for a great experience. Wide and quality selection and great ambiance. A little dark though, for those of you with vision issues.
Great barrel-agreed cocktails and good wine selection. Small bites are well made, but not quite rounded enough to make a full meal. Bourbon and single malt selection is very good.
Nice atmosphere, great drink selections, good bar snacks.
Nice vibe, interesting interior, enormous selection of wines... We really liked it!
Overly zealous staff member ruined our night. I was hosting friends whod come from a long way away. You ask for a drink and you gleefully get told We have hundreds of different whiskys.... literally they wouldnt serve us more than one drink. I get that bars dont want fall over drunks... I truly do. Being told to leave at 1015 because we were having a nice time is just plain rubbish. Dont go if you fancy a proper night out.
Unique. Quirky. Fantastic. Mixed drinks are good but the selection of Whisky and Mezcal and their barrel aged cocktails are what blow this past decent into the stratosphere of freaking awesome.Bartenders are incredibly knowledgeable, funny and quick, and the propriator has one of the most amiable dispositions.Between holding bottles of your own, and Passports for Wine, Whisk(e)y and Mezcal... this place has become our go to.Decor follows the tried and true Speakeasy aesthetic.
Huge liquor menu, 50% off scotch on Sunday, good happy hour specials, delicious food, fun atmosphere, small patio but open wall in the main dining room. Good ice cubes, solid cocktails.
Great place, fun vibe.. kind of pricey for what it is.
Good, affordable drinks. Extensive whiskey list at several price points. Dim lighting and lounge decor makes the room feel relaxed, but it was loud and hard to hear my friends seated at the same table.
Great place to stop for a drink in Fremont, cosy atmosphere, great staff and a massive drinks list
Kind staff, nice atmosphere, great for people with refined taste. I liked that you can try a set of drinks (eg 4 kinds of scotch) and they will tell you all about them, the history and differences in taste! I learned a lot.
Tons of great whiskey choices including scotch, bourbon, rye, Japanese whiskey, and others from around the world. Great for a drink and a good conversation, and a small but good appetizer list for those who want some food with their spirits.
Love this place. Best wine by the glass selection in the PNW. Servers are also super friendly and knowledgeable. Great snacks. Oh, and they have whiskey too.
Spent a lazy afternoon with Hadie and David(employees) recently.... and had a fantastic time. Decent whiskey selection and a phenomenal chocolate selection. Really friendly staff with tons of info about the area for an out-of-towner. Overall a great atmosphere and wonderful establishment.
One of my favorite bars in Seattle. Great selection of whiskey and wine plus knowledgeable staff makes this a wonderful all-around bar.
The whiskey flights were amazing. I wish there was a place like this in Tucson.
I happened to walk by this joint while searching for a night cap drink with my date. As a small business owner in the industry, I could not help but notice the passion of the bartending staff. This place is a bright light in the Fremont area!
Very dark but cozy bar area. Went in the afternoon right when they opened so not very many people in there, but the bartender was awesome!
Good selection of spirits, cozy atmosphere, friendly staff.
Really nice barrel aged cocktails, but I noticed that mine was a bit small. Delicious food and not too crowded for a great, easy-to-hear-yourself atmosphere.
Nice bar with outdoor seating looking across Fremont. The happy hour menu is a little limited for beer, wine and food but if youre here for whiskey youll probably find something you like.
Great selection of beer, wine and spirits, particularly whiskey. Great food as small plates, excellent service.
Great place, extensive liquor menu and the food is pretty good too. Get the lamb sliders!
Superb offerings. Great service. Relaxing atmosphere.
Had the best scotch whiskey in my life - Scotland Islay Bowamore. Each sip of it fills your entire mouth with flavor. Great ambience.
