The monastery is just north of Silver City, about 20 minutes on a dirt road. Brother Lawrence runs the gift shop where you have to get their wonderful coffee which is roasted on site. A new gift shop is being built which will be ready late 2022.
Heaven on Earth!!! Such a peaceful place to come and get closer to God. The Monks are very welcoming and the Gift Shop is Just AMAZING!!! You must get there Abby Roast. It will be the BEST coffee you have ever tasted!!! ❤ If you are in the area come and stop by preferably around 2pm. It is a long dirt road up to the Monastery but definitely worth it. We made it up in a Motorhome! God Bless these Holy Monks!!!
My wife and I showed up at noon. We had the opportunity to meet two of the monks, who were absolutely wonderful individuals, and Brother Lawrence gave us and a small group a tour around the campus and the new buildings coming. This man was so kind, funny, and knowledgeable. I would recommend the noon chant they do in the chapel. The acoustics and sound was beautiful and it felt like I was in Europe. Great respect for these people and their religion.
Really a extra neat place to take a quick ride up into the trees to go visit. Ive never been to another place quite like it. Very humble, yet comfortable, nice restrooms, and you can really buy a nice bag of the coffee the monastery folks make to support themselves. A very easy way to support folks who are kind and yet get something unique and of value at the same time. You really need to see the prayer station at 2 pm ish. Unique to get to witness that! We enjoyed it.
Approximately 10 miles from Silver City. The last 3 miles is a dirt gravel road (car wash on Pope Street recommended afterward). Ora et Labora is the motto for these Benedictine Monks. Their apostolate is Abbey Roast coffee which you can order from thier web site.
We were greeted by one of the monks and invited to stay for the noon service. The scenery is spectacular and so peaceful. Well worth the drive.
Wonderful experience, feel truly blessed.
This monastery is the most beautful and peaceful place I have ever been in my entire life. My brother has taken on the habit and lifestyle of the Benedictine order and now possesses this sense of pure joy that cannot go unnoticed when you see him. This goes for all the brothers as well. They are so selfless in giving their lives to God through work and prayer and it is such a privilege to be able to visit and witness this. They also make amazing coffee, so if you are a coffee fan, you should order some. You will thank yourself when you taste it. God Bless.
Great place to visit. Just outside Silver City, New Mexico. The monks are very hospitable. You can also stay there in return for helping out in return for board and lodgings. They have a gift shop which among other things sells great ground coffee. They also do group dinners where all are welcome.
This is the house of Our Lord
This is a great place to go and worship and have peace. They do mass on Sinday and everyday.
I am 59 years old. I had one biological child, adopted 4 boys and Fostered one. I cannot count the young men that I would like to take to the top of this hill to meet a real man who has given up is Personal Pleasures and belongings in the service of God and Men. So many young men are lost and unhappy, if they can make their way to God through the historic, traditional Catholic Church they will find the peace that this world cannot and will not give them. Everyone is received with open arms by the Priests brothers, everyone needs to confess, everyone needs to come to Jesus Christ. The history of this Monastery tells us that it was built amidst near impossible circumstances, but it continues to grow, this is the work of God. I flew to El Paso drove 3 hours to Silver City where I spent a half day at Our Lady of Guadalupe, I was changed by the peace and the kindness of the men who serve there, the mountain top, the sound of the birds, the work taking place, the farm, the presence of God. It was hard to go back down the hill.
This is a wonderful traditional Catholic Benedictine monastery with a profound dedication to the life of asceticism in prayer.
Very spiritual. Brothers are so nice. Beautiful
Lovely Visit. The chanting Mass... Moved my Soul. Beautiful!
Traditional Latin Mass, very reverent.
Stumbled across this little piece of heaven on earth about 12 years ago, a life changing experience, real men who gave up the world to serve Our Lord. Something that I needed to experience then and as often as I can now. It is the closest thing to hanging out with the Apostles you can experience on earth. Ora et Labora, they live it everyday. May God continue to bless your extraordinary religious community tucked away in the beautiful Gila Wilderness. Thank you for being an incredible example of our faith to me and my family and all who meet you. Brothers I think of you every morning and offer up a prayer and thanksgiving for you as I start the day with a steaming cup of your Abbey Roast Black & White!!!
The Benedictine monks of this monastery are truly the soldiers of Christ and the children of God, combating the evils of the Devil, the flesh, and the world through their lives of prayer and work. The motto of the Benedictine Order is Ora et labora, or Prayer and work. These monks follow conscientiously this motto, doing their part to be a light in the world. They are welcoming to pilgrims and visitors, and they are generous in their spiritual direction, particularly with hearing Confession and answering questions on Sacred Tradition and the Traditional Latin Mass. They truly are a blessing and a role model of true faith in my life.
When in Silver City I was searching for monasteries. Why you ask? Well we had just been at Tumacacori Mission and heard recordings of Gregorian Chants, and I love to fish around and find things other may have missed and up came this monastery. And it is was only 8 miles out of town. It had a gift shop on the web site so I figured it would be open. Well we went to the Monastery and here is how it went.First you leave Silver City on Little Walnut Avenue and in 3 miles or so the pavement ends. Then in a couple more miles the signs says private road, however note the small sign in the shape of an arrow that says monastery so up the private road a couple more miles and on the way we can see the facility. It is bordering on the Gila Wilderness and the views are spectacular. In fact the views alone are worth the drive.anyway we got to the monastery and did not see anyone, and went to the door and it was locked (more on that coming). So we enjoyed the view and turned around. In the next parking area with other buildings we looked for, of course, rest rooms and the gift shop. There was a monk or brother crossing the dirt parking lot and we approached him to ask a few questions. The answers in a very friendly tone and demeanor were:oh the door is open, it sticks a bit and people often think it is locked, it is not locked.I will have someone meet you at the sanctuary. The rest rooms are over there. The Give shop is over there.Well with all those answer we went back to the sanctuary and in a couple minutes Brother Bernard, the Guest master, greeted us and talked with us for at least a half hour answering any questions and explaining the facility. He had been there 22 years after leaving New York City and his architect career behind. He then told us of the prayer session coming up at 2:00 PM and invited us in.Well this was wonderful and the Prayer session is done in Latin, singing the chants. It was glorious to hear the sound and the acoustics of the chapel are incredible. It does not matter what your beliefs are, the singing was luscious and oh so worth the trip. We then went to the gift shop and bought coffee (Abby roast) which they freshly roasted that day.All in all a very fun and thought provoking stop.I recommend it highly.
Beautiful views and the mass at the monastery was lovely. The entire mass is sung on Latin by the monks
This traditional Benedictine monastery, which is associated with the Society of Saint Pius X (SSPX), is one of my favorite places. The monastery is still under construction and like their Carmelite brothers in Wyoming, who are also building a monastery to last 1000 years, the monks roast and sell delicious coffees under the Abbey Roast brand which can be ordered online or purchased on site.Located just outside of Silver City, NM, this monastery is a most appropriate place for those seeking silence and solitude while visiting briefly or even better making an extended retreat in the spiritually uplifting atmosphere of the traditional Latin liturgy. +PAX.
A very spiritual place where the presence of God can be felt
When you’re among these sweet sweet souls you cannot help but feel the peace that is given to you freely
Mass was beautiful brings me to Old Times with my parents
The drive is scenic, the monastery is beautiful, but if youre going just for the coffee, order it online.

Brother Lawrence is so welcoming and nice, gave us a quick tour of the Abby. Their in house coffee is delicious! Its a ways in to the dirt trails, but once there this place is very serene and relaxing. There is a few renovations happening but it was a nice visit! Very good hospitality and the facilities are very clean! Thank you so much for the information provided to go back on track on the right path!
