This place is a good spot for gamers who like board games, card games, RPGs, and TTRPGs.... but I bet it was awesome before the pandemic hit. I found the shelves a bit empty these days esp considering photos from a year or so ago. I also saw a lot of prior reviews say the community here was strong but the store was moreorless empty very quiet when I was there. Ill need to go back when life vaguely returns to normal and see what its like then. Overall tho worth a stop.

Great store that caters to all levels and types of gamers. They occasionally have people like Steve Jackson (creator of Munchkin) and others come to the store to do a event, and host D&D, Minateure gaming, and card tournaments.Visit them if you get a chance.

This is not a store it is the hub of a community. Not only does the staff play these games but they have great depth of knowledge about each system. Last time I went it was for a small item and the staff loaded me up with cool freebie items that sounded similar to what I came for. Cool people here! I remain a committed lifetime customer b/c they are on top of their game. The name is accurate.

Very nice store, huge selection of board games, card games and tabletop RPGs. I discovered this store via Free RPG Day. They have a great selection of RPGs, and not just D&D or Pathfinder. Youll find Star Trek Adventures, Star Wars (FFG), Starfinder and many other niche games. They have a game room in the back and the staff is super friendly and helpful. I felt welcome there. They are moving a few doors down soon and will have more space. I have a game shop 2 minutes from my house, UT Ill drive the 20 minutes it takes me to go to The Only Game in Town in Somerville since its much nicer.

So this place really took a downturn starting covid times. They used to be punctual and good at ooening up on time. Half the times ive been there since covid theyve been closed for “vacations” with no notice anywhere other than their door, which happens to be a 45 minute drive from me. In other words, you really dont know when youre going to be wasting your time. They dont have a working phone line so theres no way to see if they are open, and the information about them on google is dated. Just lazy business running if you ask me. Take a trip to Boonton and go to huntington games. Much better place

While i have only came once, i found the staff to be nice. I came here to find vanguard singles but they didnt have much save for a few boosters and trial decks here and there. I would come back for sure if they had in stock more vanguard products but alas, it is not the case. I bought what they had and went on my way. (Apparently, one of the decks i got had a super rare card inside of it!! Picture included.)I would also like to add that, base on what i saw, is they specialize into MTG and pokemon based purely on what i saw in the glass case. I didnt see much in the way of Yugioh per say, as i was not looking for that, but i would say that they have that in stock as well. I did enjoy seeing all the warhammer stuff as well as all the paints and brushes for the models. The board games and other card games were a nice touch. I didnt really take noticed of their names but it made the shop a lot more lively just for having it in the store. It is rare to see stores, for me at least, to carry multiple types of games within the shop.In any event, parking at this location was easy and relatively easy to find. Since it is really close to route 287, getting to this location was a breeze.

The best place to sell Pokemon Bulk. Some cards are bought for much cheaper but on the cards they would maybe be worth 1-3 dollars so its not a big deal. I would not say they rip anyone off. Very friendly staff that know what theyre talking about. Walked in with no idea what I needed to start playing Magic The Gathering, and walked out with a deck and a hand-written slip of paper with recommendations for websites and live streams to watch to get better at the game. The store was also hosting an event when I walked in and although the players were enthusiastic, nobody was acting loud or obnoxious while customers were shopping. They have a wide assortment of stock from Magic Cards to D&D and Warhammer sets, figurines and paints. Will definitely be back for a game night!

Review №31

Great selection of board games, tabletop rpg elements, and trading cards. They purchase bulk trading cards which is nice, though of course you could probably get more selling online. What is stopping me from rating five stars is my experiences in here as a woman. I visit the store once a month or so, and have brothers who visit it at least once a week. It has become painstakingly obvious that a few of the employees seem to think that I do not know what I am talking about simply because I am a woman. I have been a Pokemon fan for over a decade, and buying and selling cards for nearly as long, and accordingly know a great deal about it and the business of trading cards. Yet for some reason, when I went in to purchase a new storage box, I was told that they had none, and were a bit dismissive of my request. That alone is fine- people run out of things, and I could get one online, no big deal. However, the very next day, my brother went in and purchased two! I dont doubt that they could have gotten more in between our visits, but it would have been nice if one of the employees mentioned that they may get some in soon so I didnt have to wait for shipping. When selling bulk, there are traces of annoyance from the employees, which my brothers (who also occasionally sell bulk) have not experienced. Yes, it could be general spite for the job itself and not me- I work retail too, I get it. But this, combined with the customers makes me feel unwelcome in the store. (Yeah, they cant help the customers who look at me like I dont belong, I know thats not their fault.) Its a shame, really, because it is a very nice hobby shop, and I have many fond memories as a child of playing in the Pokemon card league in the back, but unfortunately I have to avoid going altogether.

Review №47

Before I make out this review I want to explain that it has taken me a while to put my thoughts into words about this place. And I will not be dropping names in this review I simply need to express a major concern with the staff, Im also not a difficult person to deal with at all.For years I have participated in many different TCGs with Magic being a major game for me. I have been to quite a few different shops over the years and have stopped by The Only Game in Town many, many times especially over the last year and a half. At my first visit ever, I had felt welcomed and encouraged to return with smiles and kind words from the guys behind the counter which felt great and had motivated me to make my return. However since my first time, I have felt more and more uncomfortable coming here primarily due to the different people behind the counter and their attitudes towards people and their questions. I have participated in prereleases here and have spent much money here and all the while felt criticized for either asking about singles or even walking into the shop. My initial intention was to never return here but I just would like to warn others if you come here.My last transaction here was midway through December in which i had purchased 2 boxes of Throne of Eldraine in addition to some dollar singles. The guy behind the counter was pleasant but at first seemed to not really care I was there. I had walked in about an hour after the store opened and no one else was in the shop other than me and the store associate. After faning through the singles on the counter, I had asked the guy about a few singles I had been looking for to which he did help me out however the whole time was eating a full meal right infront of me. Now normally I wouldnt care about that but you will see why I point this out soon. After looking through the singles he had behind the counter, The guy had asked me to hold on a second while grabbing his food and moving to the back room out of site. He was gone for about 20 min. Meanwhile another store associate had come in to start work and was super pleasant. She had been the person to help me complete my transaction at this point. As she was adding everything together at the counter and I was about to pay, the guy that had originally helped me came out from the back room, sat on the computer behind the desk and said oh good thank you for helping I completely forgot about this guy to the other store associate....The girl helping me and myself both chuckled nervously and I was pretty furious at this point. On the way out I had thanked the girl and shook her had and left never wanting to return. This was not the first time i have felt disrespected for doing buisness here. Let me explain another time prior to this.About a month prior to this I had gone in looking for singles for a deck I was building which I have done before at this shop. I was with a friend who tends to spend alot more money than I at this shop please keep this in mind. Upon entering the shop, the dude behind the counter said Oh no this guy again? Under his breath but still audible to people around us. I had ignored this initially and asked about a few singles I needed which was only about 15 cards most of which were in the glass case. The guy had a horrible attitude the whole time he was dealing with me and tried to make the transaction go as quick as possible. Once my transaction was done and payed for I had waited for my friend to buy what he wanted so we could leave. The same exact guy hepled my buddy and treated him with respect and spent time with him. Just a side note my buddy spent about 400 bucks this night. In my mind this tells me that after all the chances I gave this place, it really didnt matter in the end. But thats not all! I had returned recently to ask about a couple of cards that recently came out in the current Theros set and still received attitude when i asked. I walked right out. Word of advice to the owners, if you want return customers id recommend retraining your staff...

Ive been coming to this shop on and off for a little while not, and there are some pros and cons. I dont usually write reviews, but I felt very down after my last visit here and feel like people should be given a proper idea of how this shop operates.Pros:-Environment is great for play-Staff is very knowledgeable and polite-Massive amount of card inventoryCons:-Prices. This shop claims to use channel fireball as a reference point for their prices, which they do. What they dont do is take into account a cards condition. Ive on a number of occasions bought cards from them at near mint value, only to find scuffs, slight corner peeling, etc. In addition, this rule apparently does not apply to all cards, as no matter what, any non sought-after/ non-valuable commons/uncommons are always 50¢. This means every playset will cost you $2.00 minimum, which adds up quick. To put this into perspective, on my last visit I came in with a list of cards I wanted to purchase. I was originally going to buy the cards on tcgplayer, but didnt want to wait. Some of the cards were older, so they did not have about half the list in stock. Not a big deal. I was charged $20 for the cards they had available. On TCGPlayer, the cards came out to a total of $13 for the Entire list, and that was with $4 in shipping fees. Upon further searching, the value of the cards I bought, according to channel fireball, was $11.92. That means that I was charged pretty much double for HALF of my list and that they are not fully following the price reference they claim to be. Dont get me wrong, I expected to pay more, but not that much for so little.-Accessory and gear inventory could be better. In my opinion, unless you truly need the cards right away, and another LGS does not have what you need, you are better off buying the cards online. I dont say this lightly, as I am all about supporting LGSs, but this shop will likely rip you off.

Went to sell my large MTG collection here and the guy would ring the cards into the computer and then write down the dollar amount and clear the computer after a batch of cards. This didnt become a problem until the end when I had to remind him about 4 piles of cards he forgot about. Ya know if I wasnt paying attention TOGIT would have gotten about 250 in cards for free. Review №77

Overpriced on almost any MTG item. Came in to see if they had an item I was looking for. Guy busts out a few and gives me a price that was WAY over the average found through other vendors online. Before I could say anything, he then proceeded to say how they were in good condition so he couldnt do anything about the price. I wasnt going to argue the idea of competitive pricing with the guy.But really, about a 50% markup on an item I wanted two of?I politely said no thank you and left to get some lunch. Came back later to check for another item I had my eyes on. $380 average online - $500 at this store.I drove out instead of ordering online because I wanted to support local business.Sadly, my money will go to a fairly priced online vendor. Im sure they dont care about one guys business going elsewhere but I wouldve really enjoyed spending my time and money there in the future.Decent selection of tabletop board games, plushies, and other items though. Staff wasnt necessarily friendly but they werent rude at all - at least not to my face. Nice location and easy to find. Wish pricing were a little more in favor of the buyer (honestly I wouldnt even mind a slight markup, those were just way too steep).3/5Edit:@MikeThank you for responding to my review!First and foremost, I want to make it clear that I did in fact find your staff to be courteous and polite! Perhaps my initial wording made it seem I meant the opposite so I apologise for any misunderstanding.I disagree with your justification on pricing in that your store simply doesnt have the volume of business as Starcity, Channel Fireball, etc. Being a small store in Somerville, NJ doesnt compare to the volume of those giants. I believe every other store I found on TCGplayer adheres to the prices I expect and yours should do the same. Now, this is just my opinion - take it as you will.It is an expensive hobby, and markups from the local shops are to be expected, but I felt taken advantage of by the prices presented to me at your store. I did find what I was looking for at another local store at much more reasonable prices and purchased them there.I do appreciate your response and willingness to further discuss/inquire on this matter. I would love to come back to your store for some of the tabletops you have available and for gifts. In regards to MTG, however, I will continue to hunt for more competitive prices.
