I travel to South Bend every weekend from Pennsylvania. I was more than delighted to find a shop that would recondition my father’s antique Schwinn bicycle !The owner was extremely knowledgeable about the reconditioning process and did an outstanding job! The bicycle was serviced, cleaned, and reconditioned in one week! I would highly recommend Avenue Bicycle company.

I live on Long Island. My son is a student athlete at Notre Dame. I called John and explained that my son had a problem with his Swagtron Swagger 5E electric scooter. John said that he would take a look at it and determine if he could fix it. He gave me both his store and personal cell numbers and asked that my son call him directly. My son spoke with John. John met my son on the ND campus, picked up the scooter and brought it back to his shop. John was able to make the repair to a loose fender and met my son the next morning on the ND campus for a drop off. Simply put: Outstanding service, great repair and at a very reasonable price. John and the Avenue Bicycle Station are tops in my book. Thank you John!

This shop is soooooo great and the men there are so nice. I went in the little shop to see what they could do to fix up my moms old bike for mothers day. I had brought in pictures because I couldnt sneak the bike away without Mom noticing just yet. They gave me an estimate on what it would be to restore it and it was so much cheaper than what I was expecting. So I had my dad bring the bike in the next day they were open and he said they were super excited to work on a vintage bike with all the original parts. Now we dont know exactly how old the bike is but it was originally my grandfathers bike, a sears roebuck, that we think was from the early 70s.Now we were bringing it in kind of late to have it ready by mothers day but the guys said they could probably squeeze it in after the other two restorations they had to do before it. These guys ended up going above and beyond with it. They replaced and replenished and even went so far as to find the original decal stickers it once had and put those on it. They said they turned a bike around that fast and I say they did a damn good job for the little amount of time they were given. It looks beautiful!When we presented the bike to Mom, she absolutely loved it. Grandpa had long passed away and the bike had just been lying around collecting immense amounts of dust and cobwebs. It has a lot of sentimental value to her and she was so happy to see it completely restored and in mint condition road ready. So pleased with the work and extremely thankfully for the work they did!

I rarely give bad reviews - or believe in giving them - so its notable that Im doing this! The Avenue Bicycle Station is the kind of business Id like to support. But Ill avoid them with everything I have. EVERY time Ive gone in theyve messed up on some level. They do shoddy work and charge high prices. And they could care less about the customer. They close frequently early without warning. Theyre rude and unapologetic. Theyve charged me twice on my credit card - and I had to be the one to notice the error. In short: DO NOT GO TO THEM.

I was not very satisfied with my experience at The Avenue Bicycle Station. Initially I was told that the bike would be done in a few days but when that turned into a week I gave them a call and was told that it would take another week. It was two weeks before the bike was actually done. They were still working on the bike when I got into the shop. The initial price was reasonable, but immediately after leaving the shop and testing the bike there was a problem. The axle broke and it wasnt broken prior to having it serviced. They needed to replace it with a new one, charging me an extra $21 in the process. All told I spent nearly $90 on having my bike repaired here on a used tire, axle and chain when I told the owner that I didnt want to pay more than $60. To their credit they did give a free bar handle grip and reflector. I still couldnt recommend them to anyone. You could buy a used bike cheaper than getting it serviced here. Overall it was a negative experience and a long wait.

Awesome same-day brake service -- knowledgeable and clearly focused on fixing the problem as quickly and economically as possible. Within 45 minutes they brought a 20+ year old vintage 10-speed from dangerously unrideable to like-new. Dont think twice about stopping by!

Ive had a couple of problems that Ive taken my bike to the shop for: bent derailleur, truing the rim. Ive found their work good, their prices reasonable and their advice sound. What more could you ask?

Whats important to me in a bike shop: honesty, transparency in pricing, thorough knowledge, follow-through on work done, being a local small business. The Avenue Bicycle Station aces 4 of the 5. Their follow-through on work done can be slow; more than once, Ive been given an estimate on when my work-commute bike would be ready to take home, and its taken 2 more days to complete work. Note, as one reviewer here states, their hours are often limited, and I once did show up during business hours to find the store closed; I fixed the problem by calling before heading over. However, their prices beat the competitors in the area, and the bikes they offer for purchase are great. They are welcoming and knowledgable. Honesty and transparency matter to them, and they are a local small business. I will continue to highly recommend them to anyone in the Michiana area.

These guys are very fast, very knowledgeable, and a whole lot cheaper than e.g. Albrights round the corner. Theyre also willing to help those with a tight budget. On the downside I think they can be a little bit unprofessional at times, failing to call when they promised and possibly over e extending themselves when busy. They are better at fixing bikes than running a business. On balance, fairly strongly recommend but be prepared.

Nobody in town had the part I needed to rebuild my wheel. I rode down to Avenue figuring I would at least get to look at some vintage bikes. Not only did they have the part, but it came with an axle, locknuts and washers for about what I would have paid for shipping if I had purchased on-line. Thanks Avenue: my new favorite shop.

I learned about this place when they ran a Groupon promotion and I received the email. My bike was due for some maintenance so I figured Id give them a shot. The service was excellent and my bike rides as good as new.
