I have mixed feelings about this place, after going there for about 7 years. On one hand, they serve an important function for the community. Its nice to be able to buy used parts, and have access to tools and such. Salt Lake City is better off for having them here.On the other hand, i have usually had negative experiences with their staff, including events like these:1) Showing up on a night where men are not allowed to enter the building.. with a donation worth $200 and having to haggle with them for them to accept the donation ( i didnt want to enter the building, i just wanted them to take my stuff )2) Being derided for bringing an electric bicycle into the store. Even though i have seen electric bicycle parts for sale there, and there are no posted rules against it.. and also, the staff is familiar with me as a long term customer.3) Being extremely inflexible about selling things to a point where they seem to be more like a government than a business.4) Odd hours that change frequently and a significant amount of the days where the sexist policy that discludes men is in effect.5) Staff are very often inattentive to people at the counter trying to buy things.Overall, it has been hard to do business with them and also i have felt unwelcome many times, so i will no longer be frequenting this place.

Picked up a 1990 Specialized Rockhopper Sport. Beautiful vintage bike for a friend of mine investigating the joys of biking. They gave us an appointment, they helped with what we were kind of looking for versus what they currently had in stock and we got a more than fair price for a beautiful vintage ride. Very happy and the guy calling himself Ginger was really helpful and enthusiastic about helping. Cheers.

Was great for repairs before covid. After covid, they do the repairs for you, $45 dollars for parts and $190 for service. They charged me for things they didnt do (true up my rims) and replaced a low profile tube on my bike with a mountain bike tube that was 2 too big and popped as I biked home from picking up my bike. If you want to save some money on repairs, take your bike to Guthrie.

I purchased a commuter bike here about a week ago and had a great experience. The staff there was incredibly helpful. They assisted me while looking for my new bike but also with others who brought their bikes in needing work. I was able to test out different bikes, and I ended up getting one that was a perfect fit. Thanks, SLC Bicycle Collective!

I am new to Utah and the biking World. Purchased a bike I knew little to nothing about. Did some research online and found the Bike Collective. This place is a GEM!!!! They took the time to educate me, show me basic maintenance, even how to change my tires, while never missing a beat with everyone else who came by. We also purchased a bike for me soon to be bike enthusiast boyfriend. Met some really awesome individuals from every spectrum of this cool city! If you havent visited or better yet donated I sincerely suggest you do so. One of the best experiences since moving here! Ill be back!!

I love the SLC bicycle collective! A few years back I had a horrible bump in my rear wheel. I was looking into options to replace the back wheel and even in my most thorough research I found that replacing the wheel would cost me at least $150. Since I was on a budget I decided to check out the collective since a friend referred me there. This place was great! I was able to get a new rim and mount my old hub and cassette onto this rim. The staff there helped me every step of the way. It took me about five hours to build my new wheel but at $5 an hour to rent a spot and ten bucks for a new rim and tube. When all was said and done I had a newly built rear wheel for under 40 bucks! Some months later I was in the market for a new bicycle and saw a beautiful late 80s model Scott for sale. I took it for a test ride and fell in love. You cannot beat the prices there especially if a bike is needed to commute or just for fun. The message and positive impact on the community this bike shop has is unbeatable!I love the collective and refer all my bike friends to here!

I didnt know the abcs of fixing a bike. Thanks to Rick for helping me fix it and for telling the exact details in the billing counter(because I didnt know what parts were being fixed). Thanks to others for directing me. Also, I got my bike fixed in less than $15.

This place is awesome. As soon as you walk in the employees are asking how to help, there was only two of them there when I went (a longer haired red-head looking dude and a girl with a European accent of some kind) but they have tons of parts. Dont go expecting brand new stuff for dirt cheap, but its perfect for those looking for a small upgrade here and there and they dont care if its new parts or not. Overall awesome environment and community-like feeling there. I spent 6.50 for a suspension seat post, a decal, and 45 minutes on one of the benches and using their tools.

I would have had to pay $300 for parts and labor at a normal bike shop, but I was able to fix it at the Collective for $40. Not only that, but fixing it at the Collective meant I actually learned more about how my bike actually works and how to fix it myself. Thanks, guys!

Took in my old bike Ive had for the last 10 years that needed some work. I had a quote for the work from a shop in Salt Lake for $200 new parts and labor. Going to the Bike Collective I was able to do it myself and learn about my bike for a quarter of the quoted cost with new and used parts. The guys were able to help me out and taught me how to do what was needed. Highly recommend this place, great staff, and plenty of parts.

This is the best place for the DIYer on a budget. They have all the tools you need, plenty of knowledgeable people there to help (though it can be hard at times to get access to them) for free and they are cheaper than any bike shop. Tubes are only $5! They have everything you need at a great price, it just may take you awhile to sort through everything to find it. They have tons of used parts and bikes. They can get pretty busy so you may want to call ahead and try to go during non peak hours.

If you have an old bike that you think may be of some value DO NOT take it to these people! They will cherry pick the good stuff for themselves and sell the less valuable items or junk bikes to the public. Again DO NOT give them a bike that may have any real value. If you still feel the need to donate a good bike take it to DI or any other place other than this. At least it will have a better chance of getting to a deserving home rather than a greedy bike mechanic or shop manager. KSL those good bikes and donate the cash to your favorite church or charity or give them away to a neighbor kid or family in need.

This is the best place to buy a bicycle in the best place to work on your bicycle. I would never go anywhere else! After I discovered the bicycle Collective I have never gone to any other bike shop. I bought my last two bicycles from bicycle Collective and I will buy my future bicycle from them in the future. They give you a great experience and help you fix your own bike.

I went here to buy a couple of 26 wheels for my commuter bike and I walked out of there only spending $26!!! This place is fantastic for those on a tight budget or dont have the tools to do their own wrenching. Also, if youre patient you can find great deals on complete bikes here too. Since this place is a collective (aka non-profit) and community based dont expect someone in a spiffy polo to hold your hand while looking for stuff. Theyre happy to help but not hand hold while you build your bike; its a community place after all and the best one of anytime Ive ever been too.

I bought a new bike from Target a few months ago and due to a manufacture defect the crank arm came off during one of my rides. As there was a lifetime warranty, Target sent me a new pedal crank arm - only for me to discover they sent me the wrong one. :/ When I went to the Bicycle collective however, they were able to provide me a new crank arm for only $5 and also helped me get my bike in top condition. It now works fantastically and Ive learned a lot about how bikes work!

After the front tire to my bike was stolen, I was lost for most of winter on what to do. A drive over to the collective saved me. You should know that you are completely responsible for the work associated with your bike, but I found it pretty rewarding. The final bill 2 hours later was $21, for the two intertubes, a tire, and a wheel, but this is very low compared to expectations. I gave them 10 dollars as a donation because this place needs to live on in Salt Lake city for all time.
