Called in to schedule an appointment to fix a grinding sound in my brakes, brought it in 20 minutes after calling. These guys are amazing. I am on a road trip with my family and brought my car in just before they closed on Monday night because I was having break issues. They told me they would work on my car first thing the next morning. Sure enough, I looked out my hotel window at 7:55 the next morning and saw that they were pulling my car in the garage. Truck wouldnt start in Walmart parking lot. Walmart gave me the name and phone number of Modern Repair. They came in 20 minutes and towed 1 mile to their shop and immediately began diagnosing the problem which was a bad fuel pump. Replaced it along with the relay an fuel filter. So since I was out of state an trying to get to Montana that day they had me on the road so I could get to my destination. Service was excellent an I highly recommend!

This place is amazing I broke down and he came and got my family after hours. He also worked on his day off on memorial day weekend to get us back on the road. Great service would definitely recommend.

I just moved to Spearfish and brought my truck in for an oil change. As a single female, it can be a daunting experience trying to find an automotive shop that I can trust to give me honest information, quality service, and a fair price. I was very happy with Modern Repair and will go back to them for subsequent oil changes and any other repairs needed.

They took forever to complete an oil change and they kept 4 dogs in the office that barked the whole 40 minutes I was there, I dont mind shop dogs but they at least need to be trained not be be obnoxious!

The crew at modern repair spent several hours with me as I shopped for new wheels and tires! They found what I wanted at a very affordable price! A great group of people that will treat you right!

My granddaughter (Sara) is going to college at BHSU, it was very hard to think of her being so far from home and not having a trustworthy mechanic to work on her car. Grandpa normslly fixes the car and we know how easy it is to take advantage of someone who doesn’t know a lot about cars. Modern repair was recommended by quite a few people at the college as being a great priced place with great work and honest above all. They went above and beyond by explains the damage on the phone with us and our granddaughter; the mechanic told us about a few little issues that could turn into bigger jobs down the road and said he’d kept an eye on them to make sure they didn’t become huge repairs. They even offered to send picture messages so my husband could verify the repairs needed as well.They were kind, good priced, honest and reliable! They do great work at a fair price and treat their customers like family. They offered to give my granddaughter a ride back to school and to pick her up when it was done. It makes this grandma and grandpa very happy to know that it’s one less thing I have to worry about. If you want a honest place that’ll treat you right Modern repair is the place to go!

Allen called me back on a Sunday! Wow! I recently needed new front brakes for my truck. I called to find out about pricing, had to drop the call due to something else. The owner, Allen called me up and stated a fair price, and time to come in the next day! The manager of the shop even gave me a ride to work that day while they were fixing my truck! Awesome service! BTW, the brake job on the truck is fantastic! I drive from Lead to Spearfish every day to work, I needed the new brakes, no chances taken on that drive! Took our car in to get fixed a couple months ago because of oil leaking and car smoking. They took two weeks because someone was sick which I understand, but they wouldnt call to give updates and then one of the times we called to check on how far along they were said they forgot to get to it that day. We finally got it back and they did changed the spark plugs for free and did an oil change to make up for it. I felt a little better but then we had to go back for the same exact problem recently. They said it should only take half an hour to fix, mind you we had made an appointment so they knew we were coming. So we left, I was on my lunch break, and told them wed be back after I was out of work. We get back about three hours later and when he saw us he just laughs and says oh didnt do it should take like 15 minutes so we left to go drop off groceries at our house and came back 30 minutes later and HE STILL HAD NOT DONE IT. Finally we get there he does it and we are on our way back home. All the way home Im driving behind the car and the smoke is way worse than when we brought it in and when I get home its leaking oil worse than when he had fixed it called him to let him know and told him he made it worse and to call me back and they never did. My fiance put a review and they commented on it and had the audacity to tell us it was not smoke but it was vapor because they had washed the engine. Im sorry I THINK I KNOW THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN SMOKE AND HOT VAPOR. Needless to say never using their service again. Dont waste your money here.

We were stranded up in Spearfish last Sunday (Labor Day Weekend). Everyone was closed, even the car rental places. We left a message with several auto repair companies Sunday afternoon. ONLY Allen Harwood of Modern Repair returned our call on Labor Day at 8:30am. He came in to repair our car at 9:30 am. He was good on his word, the parts warehouse was open and delivered what he needed. His repair price was fair and standard pricing! He and his wife were really nice and so were his dogs! We were so lucky! Thank you for saving our vacation! We highly recommend Allen!

Was having rough breaking coming down hills so took truck in on a Sunday (I know!) and technician looked it over and said it was a warped rotor. I asked if I could wait until Friday when I headed home and he assured me that it wouldn’t be dangerous and that my brake pads were fine. No B.S. and was upfront with me. I decided to wait since I was on vacation and preferred to get my service done at my local shop. But I would definitely recommend this shop due to his honesty with me.

We took our vihicle into them to fix the axel. A day later it dumped fluid all over the driveway. We took it back in. They said it wasnt leaking. I took it home. It started dumping oil all over the driveway. So I took it back. They did thousands in repairs. I got it back and was driving up Jackson boulevard and it started smoking and dumped transmission fluid all over. The dad of the owner Allen shows up and says Allen was lazy and didnt put new clips on the lines. So they towed it back the shop. I got it back it was still leaking oil all over. Lg amounts. So they claimed it was the oil filter. Got it back. Drove it for a week. Went out to start it. It was dead. There wasnt any oil in the vihicle. I was told it wasnt thier problem after paying them thousands of dollars. I deff wouldnt recommend them to anyone.

I have never left a review before in google. However I have to THANK these guys for the AWESOME and fast service! My brakes started going bad in Rapid City while traveling to Montana. I called them outside of Sturgis on a Friday and they got me right in! I had my dog with me which they welcomed and gave a treat. As I was waiting they saw I was on my phone so they volunteered a WiFi password. And they were all very courteous! Great job! Highly recommend!

On Tuesday I took my truck in. They said they are booked until Thursday but to leave my keys and they would try to sneak me in sooner. At the end of Thursday I got ahold of them to see if they had an estimate and the woman got cocky on me told me they dont have time to do it today either. When I said I would just come get it she freaked out and told me go ahead its not like we are holding it ransom. Never again!!!

A truly honest mechanic is far too rare. This guy originally quoted me 300 to repair my truck, then dropped that price to just 50 when he realized the problem was easier than he thought. This guy is one of the truly good ones

Was on a family vacation in the Black Hills near Lead, SD when my Town and Country began to overheat. I attempted two shops near Lead, but had no luck with either. I contacted Modern and got an immediate ballpark quote. Allen and his staff replaced a leaky radiator and heater hoses in less than three hours. In the meantime they suggested places to go in Spearfish, and his office manager gave us $5 in quarters to feed the trout at the fish hatchery. Allan picked us up in the van at the hatchery and we were back on the road by late afternoon and had no problems the rest of the trip or on the two-day trek back to Texas. I went to Walmart to get some tires for my trailer, they didnt have what I needed they provided me Allens information I attempted to call him being Sunday I didnt get an answer. Thought they may have been closed for the day. 15 mins later he calls me back and and in fact they were CLOSED, but he made the drive out to get me what I needed. He was VERY fair in pricing and was able to help me out in a very professional way. We are not from the area and dont come here as often since I am here due to my job. we definitely need more people like Allen in our Boston area. Allen hooked me up with new tires after we suffered a blowout in the freeway while traveling to Seattle. While the tires were off, he showed me that my back brakes were shot. The brake job completion was delayed by a search for a replacement bolt that broke off the caliper, and the parts store that sent the wrong kit to install it. Allen got that problem solved and completed everything expertly. He also gave me a discount due to the hassle and extra time. Great service, very personable, and honest and fair.
