Very cool swanky coffee shop! Stopped in twice this weekend and both times we were treated great by staff. Drinks were on point: latte, italiano and even drip was good. The donut action is awesome and delicious - keto, gluten free, vegan! They also have plenty of buttery delish baked goods. Large open space with ample indoor seating (small outdoor area) and an atmosphere to chat or work a couple hours. Noise level was suitable and comfortable. The bathrooms were also clean and nicer.
First Ave is one of my favorite weekend spots for coffee. They are owned by the same woman who owns Roast House Coffee, so you know they brew the best coffee in town. They have a huge selection of donuts and pastries, and a lot of them are gluten free and vegan. They arent really labeled, but just ask and they are happy to point out which ones are! Their walls are always featuring local artists, and I just love the general vibe of the place. Since its on the West edge of downtown, its usually pretty easy to find parking.
WOW! When they say damn good coffee, its not a sales pitch its a mission statement. I ordered a classic Cappuccino and was served the most perfectly crafted, bold yet smooth and creamy cup of heaven that I have experienced in all of Spokane. The investment they made in the perfect bean and superior roast as well as the very best equipment and training has paid off - well done, well done indeed.Coffee and service is perfect. You deserve 5 stars. However, not a fan of the uncomfortable chairs and unwelcomed, semi-modern minimalist want to be Greenwich Village elitist vibe. It just says to me that we only want a certain concerning customer and the rest can go elsewhere. Good luck with that in Spokane.
I make sure to stop here every time I visit Spokane.I had the luck of being in town during their first few weeks of being open, and also just stopped in today. All of my visits have been nearly identical: phenomenal. The space is open, light, airy, and modern while still managing to offer cozy corners. The drinks are always spectacular, the baristas are very friendly and knowledgeable.I will continue to come here when Im in town and will continue to recommend this place to anyone who will listen.
Such a cool 2 story coffee shop! I think there is a loft area with couches but I didnt make it up there. I ordered a pour over, which they make right in front of you and its fun to watch. Its a modern and clean shop. Alexis was friendly and professional. I will most definitely be coming back here when I come back to Spokane. i recommend
The themed art pieces make for great atmosphere and the employees are delightful. The owner herself is amiable and a great baker.
Earlier today, I came by for an iced americano & was blown away. Their Mexican single origin espresso was 10/10, as was the customer service. So happy to see our coffee community coming through. Cheers ✨
Nice Place good coffee Moderate $
The apple sauce strawberry donuts are amazing super moist an taste great. Would recommend
Not kidding- the best coffee I’ve ever had. from seasonal drinks to chatting with their baristas to basics I absolutely love it here and would recommend it to anyone and everyone!
Coffee and food were delicious! Cozy seating as well!
This place is so nice, great staff that really knows their coffee! Amazing pour, thank you!
Quaint but big city posh at the same time
What a gem! I stayed next door and was looking for breakfast, and I am so pleased to have found First Avenue! Lovely store, great coffee. Huge bonus for me was all the gluten free options! They have regular eats too, but I was delighted with their GF options. Ill definitely stop in next time Im in town!
Amazing baristas and coffee! The atmosphere is very chic, and is a great place to hang out. There is lots of space to bring larger groups, including an upstairs loft with sofas. They have done a great job at turning coffee into a craft, even with something as simple as a drip coffee. I highly recommend this place.
We travelbonnthe road a lot and describing a Cortado to batistas is sometimes a challenge. Not only was the staff welcoming and friendly, but the batista knew exactly what a Cortado was but it was seriously the best one weve had yet!I highly recommend it!
Very disappointed. My fiancé asked for a matcha with almond milk but instead got minor figures oat milk which is not certified gluten-free. She has celiac disease and gluten makes her very ill, which is why almond milk was requested and when we asked he did not offer to fix it and said the oat milk is gluten-free, which a quick google search says otherwise. Also, it gets worse. When we walked in, he was trying to make other orders, so I said we have a big order so Ill wait and his response was a gesture to his head to indicate he could do it. So I started simple with two nitro-palmers and he replied with what cream or milk? I was confused and asked in a Palmer? And he said I thought I meant cold brew. So again I tried to wait and give him a chance to be less busy but he insisted he could get it, and walked over to the register. Yet I did not get nitro lemonade in either of them when we received them.We then proceeded with our order hoping that maybe it was just a fluke about the lemonades and I honestly didnt care that much, and thats when the matcha got the wrong milk. The matcha was also supposed to be an iced drink but came with no ice and was instead just shaken with it, making it more of a lukewarm drink. We got 5 drinks and a donut, the donut was also almost forgotten. For spending nearly $40 Id say Im pretty disappointed that half of them were incorrect and now we have to wait and see if someone will become ill because of this. I hope they can get more than one worker to fill orders as I think this would help prevent future problems similar to our own.
Good place for great coffee and a simple breakfast.
Has a great urban feels to the building, beautifully put together. Love the decorations, art work and the welcoming vibes. Pastries and snacks were delicious!Only reason I give it 3 stars was because coffee flavor options were very limited, and my coffee was rather flavorless with a strange after taste. But other than that- customer service was wonderful, lovely atmosphere, and they even have some nice merchandise.
Great coffee, friendly staff and yummy treats!!
One of the best pour overs Ive had. Great atmosphere. Wonderful grain-free donuts and pastries.
Favorite place in town! Great coffee, atmosphere, baristas!
Nice atmosphere, nice relaxing inde music, good coffee, plenty of options, plenty of space. I was surprised how good the cinneomon donut was. It had a texture Ive never tasted before, somehow both grainy and moist. Not too sweet, just right.
This is a great place! Creative drinks and normal friendly people! I preordered their Easter donut decorating kit and they were SUPER accommodating to my needy self 😅 great gf/v options too!
Excellent coffee options. Great atmosphere.
Lovely space, but our pour over tasted like they shorted us about a third of the beans that should have been in it. They’re also still using paper cups, which is wasteful and ruins the taste of coffee, and I’m not convinced that it’s effective in limiting covid transmission.
Quiet place in downtown SpoCompton with a great selection of Damn Good Coffee and seating aplenty for digital nomads.
Lovely place however music is a bit loud if youre trying to visit with someone in my opinion but otherwise 👍
Ive really tried to like this place but Ive not yet gotten a drink here that I really liked. Infact, of the 4ish times Ive been, Ive only been able to finish one which is exceptionally disappointing when you consider the price. Also, my experience has been that about half the staff are friendly and the other half seem to be annoyed by your arrival at the register.
Great atmosphere. Metered parking is easy and always seems available near the shop. The house made syrups are why I like going here! The baristas consistently make a good cup of coffee.
I introduced my neighbor to Roast House & the coffee was most excellent as always. Our barista was friendly, but my friend ordered extra hot & none of the three orders came anywhere near that.
I had one of their drips. Not sure which. Super bitter at the end, not a lot of flavor to begin with. Bought one of their limited edition Columbia roasts and it also has a super bitter after taste even while making in a chemex. Gave 3 stars for great location and snacks.
1st Ave is my favorite spot downtown! Not only is the staff remarkably friendly but the coffee feels like home. In such uncertain times I rarely step out but when I do it’s for one of Debs and Chelsis amazing donuts and the newest seasonal drink! 12/10 every time!
I’ve been A Roast House fan since they first arrived in town ! Our friend Pauli first introduced us to yummy RH COFFEE.. Allie served us coffee over chats and stories at the roasting venue. Bu far the best coffee in town.. my fav you ask? The vibrant decaf, freshly roasted!!
Amazing mixed drinks, but a bit in the pricy side.
Friendly service, quality beverages, and eco-conscious operation. I definitely will return!
The best coffee in Spokane IMO. Roast House coffee is perfection and it is woman-owned and has sustainable business practices. The baristas at First Ave are all very knowledgeable and skilled. My favorite thing to get is a macchiato because the shots are always delicious and it’s paired with sparkling water and a short bread cookie. They’re pricing is very fair for the excellent products they offer. First Ave’s location is convenient and within walking distance of central downtown. The interior is spacious and industrial with lots of natural light. You can sit at the huge street-side windows, or tuck in up in their cozy mezzanine. I highly recommend this place and it’s one of my favorite places to visit in Spokane.
Super amazing lattes and the friendliest staff in town. Thanks for brightening my day and giving me my caffeine fix!
The coffee is fantastic. A true cup of coffee that doesnt disappoint. Deborah is incredibly passionate and the space is amazing.Incredible wheat free pastries that made my day!
Ive had the chance to work out of First Avenue more and more, and Ive really enjoyed the warm culture that they have. Baristas are more than happy to engage in conversation and teach you about the coffee processes and variety of roasts that they have, making you feel like youve learned something after. Delicious coffee, great team and a warm and inviting spot!
Beautiful location! Industrial chic! Excellent coffee from Roast House. Just not enough savory food options.
Beautiful setting, friendly staff, good variety of coffee/pastries/mugs. Love Roast House coffee!
Great coffee and the homemade pop tarts are a must!
I went here for the first time with a friend. I had walked by several times, but never gone in. I am so glad I finally went inside and enjoyed some treats!I had a cheddar biscuit and chai tea and both were delicious! There are several options for those with dietary restrictions (gluten free etc.).What really makes this place special are the staff and owner. Everyone is so friendly and full of energy. While my friend and I were chatting the owner came over and introduced herself and gave us a warm muffin straight out of the oven on the house. Talking with Debra we found out that she prides herself in buying from and working with other women in the industry. She ensures that the other company’s she works with pay female workers and that the money goes directly to them. She even pays extra to ensure all of her beans are being sourced ethically and that the workers are treated well.First avenue coffee is wonderful all on its own, but knowing the owner is thoughtful, caring and over the top kind will be what brings us back every single time!
This was my first visit and Im totally hooked on the cold brew! The site is awesome with fantastic art and lots of room to hang out. My only regret is that I didnt try any of their baked goods! I could smell them baking but I didnt think to get something until after I left. Oh well, that just means I have to go back tomorrow...in the name of research, of course.
Great energy and service in this fun & hip coffee shop. My favorite is their gf, df donuts-- they are to die for -- and a warm oat milk chai... theirs hits the spot every time. Lots of space to work or sit and chat. I would 100% recommend.
We went yesterday for the first time, they were so friendly, coffee was delicious. What’s even better is the baked goods! The coffee donut was the best we’ve ever had.
I give it a five because the coffee was out of this world! That being said, the service was dismal at best. The lady that served me was not friendly in the slightest.
Very very impressed! By far the best doppio Ive found in Spokane! Once upon a time I was a baristo in Seattle for around 7 years and needless to say I was neck deep in the coffee culture there. At one point I was training for competition so pulling shots of espresso was an art to me. First Avenue Coffee exudes passion for coffee through their product. Amazing crema as well as balanced acidity, flavor, and volume...they know their stuff and they pull a darn good shot of espresso to say the very least!
I was really disappointed that there wasn’t any kind of serious protections for customers. Nobody was wearing masks, there wasn’t a social distancing set up for the line, and I didn’t really see any obvious disinfecting stuff. The hand sanitizer that they set out with sticky. But, like always, the coffee was great.
My favorite coffee shop in town. These guys serve Roast House, which is the best coffee in Spokane (in my humble opinion). The atmosphere is great for studying or socializing and theres enough seating that you can always find a spot. Im not really into baked goods, but I looooove love their pastries. Great gluten free options, too. Check out their coffee tastings and related events
Cute coffee shop!
Amazing customer service and great coffee
Gross and cold. Will not be back.
Lovely employees, great coffee and the biscuits are AMAZING!!
Delicious biscuits, beautiful pastries, welcoming & open atmosphere. 10/10 will come back ❤
Great pour overs and great espresso. Could drink it all day.
5 stars for ambiance, taste, and service, but I had to dock a star for price (would have been only half a star if we could do that on google revews). $4 for a small donut and $8 for an 8 ounce iced chai latte is steep. The donuts and iced chai latte were amazing, but I dont think I can afford to return. Hopefully others can enjoy this local jem.
Awesome atmosphere and coffee! One of my new favorite coffee shops in the area!Staff was very welcoming and friendly.Pricing was reasonable and selection was great! This place checks all the boxes for me, and I highly recommend!!
The best coffee. Smooth test not bitter. House made syrups are yummy. My new favorite coffee place.
Love the industrial atmosphere. Shiny metal table tops and rustic wood tables make for a great place to study. Their menu placement is great. It points your gaze up realizing how spacious the area is. Also, the menu is placed on an old door. How lovely. Im really glad to see such a great café open up in the area.
Great little coffee spot. Quality coffee well trained baristas excellent customer service fun location.Definitely a great place to have coffee with friends or business meetings
An incredible coffee shop! The staff are so knowledgeable and welcoming. They serve Roast House coffee, who are top of their craft. They offer pour over coffee, cold brew, coffee cocktails and fresh baked treats. Plenty of seating, Damn Good Coffee.
Best coffee hands down in Spokane. Spacious layout and inviting environment. Great customer service. Just wish there were more filling savory food options and wish hours extended till at least till 9pm. I would be a more frequent customer if the hours extended later.
Quite good coffee, semi hectic atmosphere but overall very enjoyable!
Well, this new independent coffee shop is right near home for us, but somehow its taken a couple months to get in and try it. Unfortunately for us, we picked a holiday where they were closing early. We bought vanilla lattes with house made syrup with a very tasty espresso used. Cant wait to come back for a pour over and longer hangout in their cool space!
Its coffee
Amazing coffee - fantastic remote work location, good parking and super friendly staff!
This spot is too special to not share with the world! Simply an amazing atmosphere with even better staff. This is a perfect spot for large or small gatherings, grabbing a quick bite, or spending a few hours grinding away at work/studying. ☕️💯
Very good coffee, excellent service. Went twice in one morning. Our barista made a good cappuccino! They also had a ton of keto treats. That was a great surprise.
When you walk into First Ave you notice a difference in the air quality around you, or it may just be the beautifully luring aromas blazing thru each Americano and Pumpkin Cream Cheese Pastries.I actually dont want to reveal all of the delicious secrets the Ave has to offer, but i will highly recommend this beautiful new addition to the Avenue!
Donuts are good, but overpriced
Best place in Spokane to get some good pour over coffee.
Amazing place to hang out. Very modern style. Completely green facility and environmental conscious. Spencer was very friendly and knowledgeable about the coffee and the craft coffee was some of the best in spokane
Great experience with amazing staff! You gotta try the breakfast biscuits they are to die for.
Staff was very friendly and helpful! The space is beautiful and open with good amount of seating. But the coffee was not good. I threw my nitro cold brew out. My friends Chai was good but for the price not really worth it. If it were less expensive I probably would not have left a 3 star review. But pretty disappointed with my $6 coffee.
Coffee was absolutely terrible. I like the purpose they’re going for and presentation was great, but not impressed with the actual taste of the coffee. Just awful.
Always excellent ❤️ So many great coffees offered and I love the way they rotate what they have. The skill level of the baristas is top notch and every coffee offering is great tasting and very responsibly sourced. Couldnt be better 😎
Coffee is first rate. Atmosphere nice. Checkout the Walnut table! Staff super friendly and welcoming. More Portland than Portland.
Ordered a “South of the border” which was described as (Cola, double espresso, lime, and ice). Barista made made it (coke and squeeze of lime) Then just a splash of cold brew instead of espresso. Asked the barista where was the espresso, and she said the menus are just incorrect.... double espresso is a significant difference than a small splash of cold brew.
I stopped by First Ave. while waiting for lunch at Brooklyn Deli. The layout of the coffee shop is the first thing that caught my attention, new school with an old school feel. The coffee was awesome, I had an americano in store and bought a lb. of the Ethiopian blend of coffee. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable, this place is definitely worth a stop in and is my new coffee shop find !
Best coffee I have had in a long time. They roast their own beans and make their own blend. Tje atmosphere is sleek and modern. The baristas are great.
Best coffee in Spokane made by talented baristas. A little pricey but I go here at least once a week to remind myself what coffee should taste like. Havent tried the food
First Ave. serves Roast House coffee which is easy to love. The highest quality beans Ive ever tasted mixed with an exceptionally knowledgeable staff and a cozy environment make for a luxurious experience. Go here if you love the taste of coffee and want to try the best coffee youve ever had. Roast House has won many international awards with their signature roast F-Bomb (highly recommended) and are certified rainforest alliance. If thats not enough for you their beans are shade grown and hand sorted. The owner goes above and beyond to make sure communities who make their livelihood growing coffee are treated well and compensated accordingly. She also keeps her ingredients for all her baked goods local.Tldr: First Ave is a quality coffee shop that you can take pride in supporting.
