Mr. Sandy Garrett is a true revolver master. He is one of the few remaining qualified gunsmiths that can work on the original Colt revolvers, including the Python. I trusted him to fix the crane shake, timing issues, and to rework on the bluing worn out of my 1978 Python and it looks immaculate. My Python now looks like its brand new and there is zero trace of any wear on it now. The holster wear and the cylinder burn marks and the ring around the cylinder is completely gone. All this for only $200 and was finished in one week.
Place is worth it! Thank you! Definitely coming back if I run into any issues. Prices are good.
NVGW was highly recommended by a friend, and they provided high quality work and great customer service...all at a very fair price. Highly recommend them, and will be back to them for any future firearms work I may need.
Theres a reason both Sandy and Robert were awarded the American Pistolsmiths Guilds Pistolsmith of the Year award. These men are truly masters of their craft. Sandys candor might come off as brash to some, but this is not an indicator of rudeness but more so a quality of seasoned experience and expertise. There are many things you can do to a firearm, and both of the Garretts know what works and what doesnt. Sandy performed trigger and action work on my revolver, and I can say without a doubt that it was worth every penny. Anyone with firearms in the DMV area would be remiss to not have their weapons serviced by these local legends.
Excellent work done by Sandy. Quick turnaround and fair prices.
Sandy and company are terrific. If you want a rush job and sloppy work, go elsewhere. After two years of bringing everything from 1850 French Pistols to a Henry 45-70 repeater, their work is solid. Craftsmanship is seldom found nowadays. Someone may be cheaper, your choice. Take the time and have these experts work on your arms.
Their work is really excellent. My experience with them has been for trigger refinement for competition.
Sandy and Robert have worked on my firearms for over a decade. I first visited after my Orthopedic Surgeons recommendation. I have worked with other Gunsmiths in the Washington DC Metro area, but going here is on a whole different level in terms of quality of work, fair pricing, and advanced gunsmith abilities in general. I highly recommend Northern Virginia Gun Works to anyone looking for quality work completed in a timely manor.
Came in for a quick fix on my pistol here for the first time. The gun tried to chamber a round when another round in the barrel was not ejected and got the slide stuck. I was not comfortable with trying to fix a hard stuck slide with a live round inside at home. The guy in the shop was friendly. Not only did he clear the malfunction in less than 10 minutes, he also cleaned and lubed the gun for me as well. Ill definitely come back for future gun works.
I have know Sandy since he was running the Fairfax Police Range back in the early 80s. Since that time he has performed miracles on more S&W revolvers than I care to admit to owning. In fact, HE should be running the S&W Performance Center! Then it would mean something today when you bought one of those guns. But I digress. If you ever want to get a rise out of him, ask him if would like to restore an old Marlin 1893 in .38-55. If you do, I wont be responsible for putting his eyes back in his head.. The job he did for me on that old Marlin has won me numerous titles in Roanoke at the long range (250 yard) shoots. It looks like it did the day it left the Marlin factory...back in 1893! Absolutely gorgeous and spot on accurate. It is one firearms that will always remain in the family.
Mr. Sandy Garrett fixed my Model 29 S&W when two local gunsmiths couldnt fix it. Mr. Garrett is a true revolver expert. When I drove there to pick it up he explained what he had done to repair it giving me before and after measurements. I would trust him over any local gunsmith and will definitely use him in the future.
Went in for a small modification; thought Id have to make an appointment and leave to pick up another day. Was pleasantly surprised when Sandy took care of the job on the spot. He normally doesnt do that but decided it was easy enough to do. And finished it he did - with outstanding results! A true craftsman and gunsmith. Robert, his son, is equally as talented. I strongly recommend NVGW.
Sandy Garrett and his son are two of the few true gunsmiths left. Theyve done several projects for me and have always done absolutely top notch work. As is always the case with true craftsmen, their work is in high demand and as a result you need to be prepared to wait for them to get to your project. They work very hard but the re in such demand the wait list is long. Theres only so many hours in the day.
Absolutely top quality gunsmithing. These guys are some of the best in the country. Their work never fails to impress. I took in a rifle for a minor malfunction and they not only corrected it, they tore down the entire thing, measured everything against spec and corrected a couple of small problems. The whole thing took about ten days. Now, it is true they are not cheap. But, as with everything else, you get what you pay for.
NVGW did work for me in the past.I was happy to see them still going strong.I currently have an issue with a Remington .308 that if Remington is unwilling or able to resolve, will be left in these trusted hands. You get what you pay for with these gentlemen! True service!
Sandy Garrett over at NVGW do a phenomenal job! Straight to the point and goes above and beyond whatever you ask, Brought in my revolver for some work and couldnt be more pleased with how it came out smooth action and I love it even more! Convenient location and certainly my go to spot for any repair or job!
I was pleased to find an independent, not in a range, gunsmith in the area. The store was hard to find; the hours arent super convenient; and you pay for the level of service you get....BUT, they do GREAT work! I had a shotgun that was having issues. I couldnt even get it apart and neither could several gun store experts. NVGW had it apart and showed me what was broken in under 5 minutes. They made a new custom screw to replace the broken one and repaired the two retaining screws that had stripped the wood barrel stock. By repaired I mean they drilled out the stripped wood, put in wood epoxy plugs, drilled holes and reinstalled the screws!
Best gunsmith in the country! Ive had several firearms worked on and they always exceed expectations.
Extremely talented craftsmen, very well versed in their trade. I cannot imagine taking my firearms to anyone else.A team of father and son unparalleled in this area.
The work seemed to be of quality, which was no issue. What was the issue, however, is not charging a fair price when faced with difficulty. I brought in an AR 556 from Ruger to have the barrel nut taken off. When I returned they surprised me with a $325 bill.... to take off a simple barrel nut that costs $2.50.... Imagine how you would feel if you took your car to the shop and what should have been a straightforward repair now costs you $4,000.... so beyond ridiculous. If you go here, I advise you dont provide them with a hard problem OR make sure you get some kind of guarantee on the price before they go hog-wild.
Ultra high quality expert service, fast turn around and reasonable prices. I was very pleased with the work on four custom pistols that I left for work!
Ive had several long guns serviced by these gentlemen. One took 7 months to fix. (Im not sure if they had simply forgotten about it.) Of the two gunsmiths, one is a perfectly pleasant professional who believes in customer service. One, however, is a very surly gentleman who, it seems, has no appreciation for the customers that pay him. This could be overlooked if I was drawing on a single encounter. Not only did he ensure that they will no longer receive my business in the future, but I am also currently alerting my friends in the Northern Virginia shooting community to spend their money elsewhere.
My family has been using NVGW for many years and have received nothing but fine work by them. Sandy and his son truly are the areas only real gunsmiths. I especially appreciate their work on S&W revolvers. I have had negative experiences with other gunsmiths in the area. If you have a quality firearm, or a family heirloom, take it to Sandy. Yes, quality takes time. As the saying goes, you can have it fast or you can have it right - which one do you want?
Sandy and Robbie are the BEST. If you want your guns taken care of by the best, bring them to NVGW. If youre impatient or want the lowest price, go elsewhere - but youll be back at NVGW to fix the fix. Seriously, Ive taken all types of work to Sandy and Robbie and each and every time the work and expertise are the best. I will trust my guns to none else and happily spend what it takes to get the care, professionalism and results I get from Sandy and Robbie.
A true professional. Its like stepping back in time. If you own a classic revolver, this is where you get your work done.
Always professional. Dependable work. Unparalleled firearm knowledge.
My first purchase of a quality firearm was in 1971 when I purchased a S&W Model 19, 2.5. The action was horrible. A friend of mine said I should take it to Sandy Garrett in Newington. I did and was told he would call when it was ready. Sometime later I got the call and when I picked it up he told me he had installed a target hammer and trigger, smoothed the action on it and test fired it to POA / POI. My Smith 19 is still dead on. I have qualified with it for LEOSA in the last 5 years. The 19 has become a little heavy to carry since I retired. Therefore, I moved to a Smith Model 38, bought new. First stop was Northern Virginia Gun Works for action work on the j- frame. When I picked it up Sandy said that in addition to the action, he ground the trigger smooth to eliminate the ridges and sighted it in POA / POI. This is my carry either in Wolf or Sparks leather. I qualified with it last year. Im sorry I cant post photos. If you need absolutely first class gunsmithing, spend some time talking with Sandy Garrett. Then decide if you want to trust him with your weapon. I was looking at a really rough Colt Agent that was on consignment today. First thing I thought was it would need to go to NVGW for rehab.
Please Pardon the Pun: Great Bang for the Buck at NVGW !!!Youll always receive Top Notch Craftsmanship from Sandy ... Well Worth the Wait !!!
Very limited in what they will do. I called to have custom gun work done on my Accuracy International AXMC and they only install one muzzle brake. Pretty piss poor. Its simple, thread it... I install my APA brake. No go. Go to WAR rifles in Manassas
Went there on two seperate occassions to get work done and both times, the work was done above my expectations! Either it was finished earlier than promised or extra steps were taken to ensure that work was done properly with minimum/no extra charge. Thats quality in service!!
Sandy is a master of his craft. If you choose him to service your firearm, be patient, and you will be rewarded with the best work in the area
I have taken four guns there and they did outstanding work at great prices. I will always take my guns there as long as they are in business.
Good service at a reasonable price. Cant ask for more.
Customer service is lacking.
