A reliable place for ammo and other sporting equipment although prices have gone up everywhere. Limit of 4 boxes total per person and thats including shotgun shells.

This place was horrible. was with my friend. he bought 5 nike clothes and went to the cashier. the cashier was all calm and nice. the moment she realized he bought too many clothes, the person behind her, i assume her manager, is giving her signals to hurry. i saw their faces they got extremely mad and lost their patience. the bill was up to 200 bucks which my friend can pay for.the other employee said you can go ahead and grab the bag she said that exact like in a disrespectful tone just cause he bought too much stuff. the last bag was there he was gonna grab it and the cashier rudely put the receipt in there without saying anything about the receipt.my other complaint: the store manager or whoever was literally yelling across the store about line issues. she was next to me and her voice was in my ear. i almost freaked out as well. not my fault she do not know how to manage the lines.

I like the friendliness and helpfulness of the workers here. There were sales associates everywhere available to assist customers. There was even a gentlemen at the front by the entrance to answer questions and point you in the right direction. And of course, there’s plenty of the items one came to buy or check out whether for workout, sports, camping, outdoor hobbies, etc. The store is welcoming, bright, and clean. There is ample parking in front.

Sports equipment for the kids, never let you down at Academy.👍I think Academy should meet with the brands a figure away to come down on the prices especially if your buying more than 3 or 4 items. Having more than 1 kid in sports gets pretty expensive, definitely at this time.

Good experience. Found a pair of Nike, for under $40. There clearance rack was filled with great graphics T-shirts items. Helpful staff. All around Good experience.

I was able to walk in make a purchase and leave with no issue. Lines were quick considering the number of people. Masks are optional for fully vaccinated people.

They have a great selection for kids. We have an 8 and 6 year old and they always have the best brands for reasonable prices

Huge location, you can find a variety of sports/ outdoor items here with no problem.

This is my Go To location when I want to try it on or hold it in my hand before I purchase. If you are going outside, everything you need or want is here including the extra boat plug you keep forgetting!

I feel very lucky to have this Academy close by. I only go to this one, because it is ran so well and management and the entire staff does such a great job at giving sincere customer service and trying to help out the community. Great staff at this location. Great GM as well.

Gentleman in customer service was very helpful and took care of our exchange quickly! I didnt have a receipt for one of my items and he still attempted to help me as much as possible! He ended up finding the best resolution for me! We have also been to this location to purchase new bikes for the kids and they are happy!

Theres not much to say really, customer service is okay but the place is pretty pricey. I got a badminton set and the rackets were absolutely terrible. Within only a few plays the wire started to fall apart and so did the wrapping at the end of the racket. So in conclusion I dont recommend the badmintons and the badminton sets they sell otherwise the place is okay

Cool stuff you wont find in Walmart

Took my son to buy sneakers. One associate showed us shoes but then left us. We then asked another and was poorly helped by the associate who did not act as though he even wanted to be there. He looked for the shoes but didnt offer any alternatives or suggestions. We left and received better service at a Sketchers store. Very upsetting, wont be returning for shoes at this location.

I refuse to shop anywhere else for my sports and outdoors needs.

The staff, from the door greeter to the manager, were all very friendly and helpful. The manager spent several minutes with me while I was deciding about a purchase. Also, I needed two of one item but only one was in stock. They ordered it for me and had it delivered to my house with no shipping fees. It wasnt a big ticket item. Just $10.

Not happy with the service I was provided. Purchased a bike and the training wheels were put on incorrect and wheels were falling off. When I pointed it out the individual told me they were supposed to be that way. Will never come here again. Returned item.

Sammye is a terrible manager. Academy sold me a product (inflatable kayak) not performing at all as marketed (false marketing). I return the product and I was told that it is not returnable because I used it (??).I was not advised to buy there as long as this manager is in place.

Good selection for it being Christmas Eve. Bad experience with Devin at check out. Had bad attitude, wadded clothes into bags and after I corrected this, he left a loss control pin on an article intentionally.Guess I need to follow the online crowd.

Great .. They had what i was looking for and at a good price...Also the cashier was very honest...My total merchandise was $51 and change.. I thought she had said $61 and change... She gave back to me the extra cash...

Employees were helpful and the store was clean. Its frustrating to shop in store and leave telling yourself Ill just find that size online or I know they have it online, but I dont see it on the shelves. They didnt have the childrens shoe size we needed, and they didnt have the 12V ride-on we wanted.The fishing department was understocked or out of stock on so many tackle items. I couldnt find the swivels, pyramid-shaped weights, or double drop leaders I needed. We went the Wal-Mart and found them.

The store itself is fine, but don’t waste your time buying online and doing curbside pickup unless you want to wait at least 30 minutes for them to bring your item.I waited and waited, then I called them and told them I’ve been waiting well after I clicked the link to let them know I arrived. I thought it would save time doing it this way, but I was wrong.Just go inside and make your purchase...it will be 100 times quicker.

I had a very unpleasant experience performing a simple online order pick up this afternoon. The manager on call was rude towards me for asking a clarifying question and the communication between employees was the worst.Not to mention that the manager was entirely wrong by giving me attitude and telling me that I am not the only customer picking up an order when I simply asked if that was my order that an employee was wheeling out the door. Turns out she was entirely wrong and that was my order and the employee had to come back into the store because I was waiting at the online order pick up counter the entire time.It makes no sense to me that they have an online order pick up line and regular customers are checking out in that line slowing the whole process down. I had received a confirmation that my order was READY for pickup which I still have to wait 30 minutes in the store after I presented my online order confirmation which makes no sense.Walmart, target, Home Depot and countless other stores I’ve picked up online orders from do not have this wait time. If my order isn’t ready please don’t call me letting me know that it is. There isn’t competent leadership in that store and the ones in leadership are RUDE!

Was chatting with a representative about availability of an item and they had no idea when they will receive their next shipment and that their last shipment was three months ago which is understandable given the circumstances but the rep. was not very friendly and abruptly hung up on me immediately after answering my question. Evidently the rep must be very tired of answering questions quite frequently like this but that doesnt excuse bad customer service.

Academy started out as an army surplus store in early 70`s in Houston,Texas . All these years I am glad to see them expanding. Early times I got all my camping, fishing gears in academy Ina very affordable prices. I move to California for 30 years. Anytime in town I always visit Academy . That is my root in Houston . Hopefully in the near future I will retire back to Houston. By the way how is David the kid appeared in the ad in the 70`s doing. I wish him well and healthy and happy. I did some black Friday shopping in the store located at 59 S . Prices always good,staffs always helpful. Merry Christmas everyone. Until the next time, I will shop again in Academy, my number one store for sporting goods in Houston .

This location is a little smaller than the stand alone locations, but still has some great variety. I was at the gun counter and it was one of the better experiences Ive had. Even though they were busy (Black Friday!), they took the time to let me try different hand guns and made some good suggestions and reviews. Other places where Ive gone to the counter (Im looking at you, BPS) seem to be put out with the questions and time. Good job, Academy! You got a convert.
