I dislike shopping the swampscott stop n shop so much that i only go in if i absolutely have to. I think being rude must be a trait they look for when hiring. There are 3 employees that are nice but they just cant make up for the absolute rudeness of the rest. Its like theres something in the air in that store that brings out the worst in not just the employees but the customers. I listened to a lady tell Matt Ill let you bag my groceries but you better be faster than you usually are. I was sickened by her considering Matt is disabled. These types of encounters are the norm in this store. Theres also the problem of nobody stocking empty shelves. Why? Market Basket has people stocking all day long. I will go way out of my way to avoid this particular S&S. Ill drive to Wegmans because the experience is the exact opposite. Pleasant employees, friendly fellow shoppers, full shelves and good prices. They must have good management whereas S&S does not. I hate this store.
This Stop n Shop is knowingly selling bad or spoiled products especially in the frozen dept. I bought 3 gallons of ice cream and all of them had seperated making ice on the bottom and sand textured ice cream on top. Why would you expose your customers to food that you were aware has unthawed?? Just....awful. Losing power is no excuse.
Good products overall and fair prices. This particular location is fairly clean.Biggest draw back to this location is that product is not stocked accurately. In an effort to make the aisles look full, employees line product along the edge of the shelves without any regard to what the actual product is and where it should belong. This makes is so that you have to read the labels and move product around to dig for the product you are looking for. It is particularly bad on the tea isle.
I enjoy Stop and Shop. Their fruits and vegetables are the freshest. The clerks are nice plus an older lady helped with bagging. I will always return. Thank you.
Very nice and clean supermarket. Just stopped to buy milk.
Melted frozen foods, frequent out of stocks, no cashiers, and the most frustrating, glitchy self check-outs (which Im forced to use due to the lack of cashiers). This store has been going downhill for awhile but it seems just as soon as I think it couldnt get any worse, it does. The store is clean though and the pharmacy is always great.
Their prices just keep climbing and climbing. Great produce.
Very clean convenient for all grocery needs
Re: stop & shops response: Look 4 stars is a pretty good review Im tired of people acting like 4 stars means needs improvement, if I thought it was only fair and needed improvement I would have given you only 3 stars. just take the W.
My shopping experience this time was an absolute pleasure...Shelves were stocked and employees were courteous and friendly!!
My ATM card got stuck in the Citizens machine. I needed some kind of tool to pull it out. I went to the service desk and explained the situation to Kevin. I asked for a pair of scissors but he also gave me a nail clipper which worked in one try. Kevin saved me from the nightmare of losing my card. He was very smart to think of the nail clipper and I am very grateful.
This place used to be great. Then they changed the self-checkout software. Now its a nitemare that should be avoided at all costs
The nice Lady at the Floral is great !Helped me to put together flowers for my FiancéThx so much.
Clean..organized..helpful
Checkout here is torture. We used to always go to a cashier figuring the service would be better, and thought that we were helping to keep the checkout staff employed. That is, until a bagger sneezed directly into one of our bags and just kept on bagging. So for a while now weve been going to self checkout. Which was just OK, until they changed the checkout settings. In particular, its the over sensitivity of the scale in the bagging area that is so horrendous; it makes me wonder if Stop and Shop is part of some nefarious human behavioral torture experiment. Here is a summary of two recent checkout experiences:1) I arrive at self checkout with my groceries, setup a couple of bags in the bagging area and scan my first item. Within a second of scanning, a computerized voice bleats out Please place your item in the bagging area!. And so it went on for every item scanned. Please place your item in the bagging area! Please place your item in the bagging area! Please place your item in the bagging area! . No matter how fast I would go the voice would bleat out the warning on each attempt. Didnt they outlaw this sort of mental torture with the Geneva Convention? I continue on just trying to get out of there, when the bagging scale misses on a lighter item and after a couple of Please place your item in the bagging area! bleats; it errors out, and the attendant has to come and punch in a code for me to continue. Thinking that maybe its just a bad register. I continued my checkout when I begin to notice a background noise. Please place your item in the bagging area! Please place your item in the bagging area!. Looking around, I could see multiple checkouts all singing the same horrible song. I managed to finish up and exited the market with a new brain worm ringing in my head. Please place your item in the bagging area! Gee thanks Stop and Shop!2) I arrive at the self checkout and setup a couple of bags in the bagging area. This time. The act of setting up a couple of bags throws off the scale. This time the electronic voice bleats out. Unexpected item in the bagging area! Please remove all items..... I pick up the empty bags, and the error goes away. Put the bags back Unexpected item.... Now I know what you may be thinking. The bags I brought were too heavy and they set off the scale. Except I didnt bring my own bags on this trip. These are bags that had been sitting in a stack in the bagging area when I arrived, and the only difference is I picked up two bags from the stack and set them up to hold my groceries. So I put the bags back on the bagging area, let the Unexpected Item... error appear as expected, call over the attendant, and explain what happened. She punches in her code to reset the error and tells me You cant do that. Do what? Take a bag thats already sitting on the bagging area scale and pop it open so I have a place to put my groceries as I cash out? I choose to ignore the comment, thinking to myself that running the self checkout area has got to be punishment for employees who show up late, or talk back to management, or commit some other egregious offense. After all. Ill be gone in 5 minutes, but this poor person has to deal with this all day. Now having touched nothing in the bagging area since the reset, I scan my first item and immediately get. Unexpected item in the bagging area!. Defeated, I move to another checkout, and get checked out with only a few Please place your item in the bagging area! bleats.FAIL
Cleanest, most organized of the 4 Ive been to in the area.
Its a stop and shop for sure, can confirm.
Good collection of produce and sometime random stuff. Fresh food, nice butcher shop
Great help, good sales person when you need help.
Good store clean friendly good selection of quality meats and produceNot to big easy to get aroundPlenty of checkouts
The check out people were very nice. I only run in if I need a couple items. Other wise I go to the other markets in area. They dont really have a lot that I want.
One of the cleanest store I been inMostly polite and helpful people work there.
I find their prices in general to be very expensive especially the fruits and vegetables.Fresh ginger 2.99 a poundWhere I usually shop it is a dollar less.I left the store without making a purchase.Someone told me that Stop and Shop will be raising their prices.I wont be returning.
Many of the employees very unfriendly. A lot of the time the selection of goods is the same. It doesnt seem like they put many new products out and if they do theyre like silly that you wouldnt purchase a lot of the time its very boring to shop there. They never talk to you in the producesection. And now because theyre feeling outside orders at a frantic Pace they dont pay any attention to anybody in there. I like the people in the deli. Most of the time they are very helpful.
Prices are a little higher than other supermarkets. But better service
Still too expensive to do my weekly shopping for family.
Usually some good deals every week, especially if you have coupons. Decent store, tends to be less hectic than the nearby market basket around holidays.Great staff, always helpful!
The staff are always friendly and they have everything I need.
Ok, not great. Poorly stocked shelves, cant always get what I am looking for.
Its OK, in general, with relatively high prices, an older physical plant... Just fair-to-middling in re selection...One stellar aspect: Bakery goods! We prefer Market Basket for excellent prices - I mean, up to and sometimes even better than one third less than Stop and Stop for the same products! And I mean THE same: brand, quantity, etc. Oh, and MBs baked goods are just as good.
Overpriced! No real deals! Fruit hasnt got flavor!
Went shopping on 12/22 with my grandmother. She went into a line with one customer in front of her being rang up. After waiting in the line for 10-15 min the customer in front of me informs us the line is closing. I ask are you sure, as the light is still on and the cashier never spoke to us. The customer states that he told her. I then ask the cashier named Ojami and he says to go to another line. He should have told us before or even while we were in line and he was very rude. My grandmother and I will not be coming back here.
A rather large store that sells groceries, some household items, needs more care, monitoring of shelves and general organization.
Fully stocked quick checkout good customer service
More expensive than Market Basket but does have certain items Market Basket doesnt. Also, never packed liked MB.
This great store in location
Very pleased with the variety of products, the prices are a little higher than what we are used to but there is more variety. Very pleased with Snow our cashier.
Its fine, not as good as market basket in Lynn though
Good location
I have been meaning to review them for a while. I live nearby so I shop here quite often because I dont have a car and have no other option. Over the year and a half I have lived here I have had to complain to customer service about smells, or leave an area because it smells so bad on multiple occasions. I understand they work with fish and meat... then why is this the only grocery store I have ever had this issue with? The staff are always ok though, I know their job sucks and I have never had issue with staff
Good quality products friendly service convenient and clean
This store has everything if they dont have it you dont need it.
Two weeks ago I purchased a 5 lb boneless pork roast at $3.99 a pound. Today I cooked it and found that not only did it have a bone but it was huge This is simply unacceptable. I have photos to show just how large the bone was.I returned to the store today July 21 Could you define boneless for me?? I looked at two roasts again today and they were also marked boneless and the bone was visible in the package. Needless to say I did not purchase these items after my last experience
Fair price every single day
Tou are very welcome i love seeing what new thing you have each week.
They have a nice deli and produce section, but they run out of things a lot.
Delightful customer service
My favorite for thier coffee and flower dept.
This is a clean store the inly priblem is they dont know how to handle front end. With the whole new line situation there are people waiting like they are supposed to then people jump in line from other side no waiting because they have noone directing customers
I love how big and clean the store is but I wish the produce and bakery sections were not on opposite sides of the store. Stop & Shop still has great deals and better pricing than Whole Foods; in fact, I think the produce and baked goods are actually better!!!
Horrible services, unprofessional staff and rude managers( Rick Lepage and followed by other uneducated “management team”) . Go to whole food Swampscott or market basket in Salem instead, much better shopping experience and better valued products.
Because there food is so fresh.
I have to say, I am so disappointed with this store. I love shopping the main part of the store, it is neat and organized and kept to order with an array of fresh products to choose from. BUT the rest rooms!! It is unbelievable how it goes from bad to worse. I was at the processed food wall buying hotdogs and I could smell the stench of urine coming from around the corner. It didnt help that my daughter needed to use the loo, and I saw for myself again how nasty that stalls were. Tissue all over the floor, wet floors and the smell! It just doesnt the rest of the store, and if the bathroom cant be kept in order where you customers can see, what are the back room like? Infection control is for ALL areas, not just the visible. Market basket in Lynn has more traffic that any grocery store Ive seen, but their bathrooms are in a MUCH better shape than this store. I definitely think YOU can do better. Next time Ill be sure to have my phone on me to take a picture!
The sale ads are SO confusing there! Ex: chips on sale are in 3 different places, diff sizes, diff prices. Even the lady at the register was confused! Went over the amount 3x and Still Over Charged! Happens at least one out of 3x. Better to go 5 extra min to Market Basket!! DONE with the Vinnin Sq store😬
Plenty of food and paper products at good prices.
Fully stocked shelves
Good selection friendly helpful staff. Prices a little high
These are difficult times for all shoppers. But I am a loyal Vinnan Square Swampscott S&S customer and have shopped for groceries only at that store for quite some time including the past 8 CV-19 weeks. Best of all, is that I can (could?) still have the deli counter cut the Hebrew National (i.e, kosher) deli meats despite the remainder of the deli counter cut foods already packaged and on the nearby shelf. But not today. Today I was told at the deli counter that it was on that shelf and they now do not cut any foods. But they did so for the last 8 weeks (including three days ago), secondly it wasnt on the shelf, and thirdly kosher foods are not placed next to non-kosher foods. Not a big deal for some - and I understand that - but a big deal for me. If you are no longer carrying kosher deli meats or will not cut them for the customer on the kosher slicer, then please provide a sign saying so. I will look for these products elsewhere.
The outside was very clean,
Im so glad the strike is over. The Swampscott store is the best location, on the North Shore, to purchase foods kosher for Passover. They have a huge selection with most everything I need all in one easy to find aisle.Due to the strike and the large amount of items left, the store marked everything down significantly and I was able to buy enough for the rest of the holiday at ¼ of the price. The workers all seem to be happy that the strike is over and a resolution found.
Great customer service, great meat selection and sales on ribs.
Everyone was so nice and the cashier was so helpful in answered what ever I ask about😊Thank you Clemencia!!!!😊
Im a little biased as i work here. But we are a great group of employees, and i love our customers. Our store is a work in progress in some areas but our management team always puts our customers needs first and we accommodate as much as we can!!
They always have everything I need at reasonable prices. Their deli is amazing! And the customer service is great!
The cashier Adam was very helpful. Helped us with the self -check out.
Very clean & friendly atmosphere🙏🌞
Im here at 6 a.m. to do some early holiday shopping, they were supposed to be open at 6 a.m. but half the lights are still off none of them meats or seafood sections are open and mostly people just stocking shelves. Why do they say theyre open at 6 when they really arent, just wasted my time coming here early. I would have been fine coming at 7 a.m. if they needed extra time to stock and open why would they not get this done early if they say theyre open early now Im sitting here waiting.
THANK YOU to all the workers risking their lives to help out the community. You are all one of a kind.
Ive been going there for about 5 years. Must say, Deli dept is always in great spirits. Excellent group of guys who go the extra mile to make my daughter (kids in general) feel special. Jeremy and Shawn, very pleasant. Thanks gents...keep up the good work!!
Neither too big nor too small. You can find all the regular supermarket standards and also a nice international foods aisle. There is a Citizens Bank on site. They do take credit cards, ebt, and debit cards as well as cash, of course. Parking is free, plentiful and wheelchair accessible.
Only 2 cashiers... lines to pay down the aisles.... horrible service...
Im only giving it 3 stars because A. They took out dunks. And B. This older woman who works at the deli is the rudest woman EVER and has zero business working with customers. I had my ticket waiting to be called, she never did. She just stood there staring at me. FINALLY I asked her if I was next. She responded Im not standing here for my health, you want something or not? She was the only person working at the deli and there was 1 other customer waiting to be served. And I asked for rotisserie chicken salad, 1/4 of a lbs, she went out back and brought me a container already packed, then weighed it for a price and handed it to me. It was over a 1/2 lbs. I told her thats NOT what I asked for and she got snippy...I left it on the counter and walked out of the store all together. I was pissed and had I stayed, I wouldve ended up cussing someone out so chose to leave.
Very Good...for a S&S. Clean, well lit and a good alternative to Whole Foods.
Happy people. Hahaha yah
Expensive compared to everywhere else, including Whole Foods, but good in a pinch.
They have not kept the store stocked properly through the crisis. They could have put limits on things like toilet tissue and antiseptic wipes rather than let people hoard them. I shop every Sunday and it doesnt look like the store has been restocked in weeks. I go there because it is convenient( I do not drive) but now I will be going to Market basket where I here the helves are stocked. Stop and Shop doesnt even have a frozen pizza in the entire store. Their supply chain is obviously week. Also the manager insulted my girlfriend when she asked when we could expect to get some toilet tissue.
Good grocery store, produce, deli and meats always good quality with a lot of selections.
If you still want free thin plastic bags this is a grand place to shop. Prices are generally high, produce is average and any help you need while shopping is unavailable. A five minute ride to Salem Market Basket will save hundreds of dollars a year.
Good variety good sale prices
This is my local grocery store. I always get great help from attentive staff. Its well stocked and well lit. I appreciate the hours and convenience.
So crowded and no one available to ask questions. There were very few open registers, and I kept walking back and forth to try to find the bread isle. Finally, after three times past the isle I found it, but never found anyone to help me. This is not my usual store. I usually shop at Stop and Shop in Lynn and there is always employees around to help people or just smile and say hello.
Great place with great produce. It is always busy during weekends and there isnt always enough staff to satisfy the needs and requests of the customers. Plenty of parking space available and is really close to the main street.
Staff stocking shelves blocking the entire aisle with multiple carts, malfunctioning scan it system that the store new about but didnt post signs warning customers, and no checkout attendant at the self check/scan it area made for a very frustrating shopping trip that took twice as long as it should have. Produce selection and quality was poor. Deli/Seafood/Meat sections reeked of dirty mop water, a common occurrence in this store lately. This used to be a really good place to shop, but has gone downhill fast in the last year. Hopefully management and staff can get their act together and make the store good again.
Not much to say - the parking lot is in terrible condition, the store is always dirty, and I find expired products on the shelves a lot. Cashiers seem to be limited, and getting help at the self checkout is a joke. I will say the location is prime and they usually have what Im looking for.
Ive been shopping here since I moved to the north shore a year ago. The selection is usually alright. However, almost every time I buy milk it goes sour before the sell by date printed on the jug. At the moment I have a half gallon I bought last weekend dated sell by 6/22, and it is soured and unusable.
Always a quick in-and-out experience, the place is very open and clean and well organized, and you dont have to worry about bumping into people. Market Basket has above and beyond better prices, though.
Always we can find fresh vegetables, fruuts and so on.
Very organized and great workers. Its a little bit high for the prices, but its clean and they have a robot
Good place.
In and out👍
The worst place to by ..on broccoli I found worms..on rice too..on chickpeas an insect that I don’t know the name.Be careful people.i don’t recommend this place to by food for your family
Love carlos & the bakery crew always does a perfect job..
Store not as well stocked or clean as it used to be. Prices are better elsewhere on many items. I only go there to fill in items Im low on or to use the pharmacy.
Decent prices, quality of produce is ok. Do not recommend a Sunday visit as it is very busy.
In an out, no problem.
This S&S location feels very claustrophobic, and moreover the layout of this particular Store is Reverse or Backwards by comparison to practically ALL of the other S&S Stores in the area. The parking lot was not Planned for Easy Sightlines, and therefore parking and driving in and out of this location are a challenge, and difficult to maneuver around.
Love love love the sales this week. Saved 28.51. Keep it up.. We need it!! Ty
Always quick and they usually have what I want
Stay away from the produce. Really going down hill for selection of many staple items.
