Hong Kong is the best grocery store in the world. The selection of beer is really good. They have some inputs that you wont find anywhere else. Also, they sell these Chinese sweetbreads that are to die for. The cashiers are very friendly. The store has its own bookstore and bubble tea spot. Huge selection of fresh fish in the back that are killed and gut in the store. Its a very neat store.
I love me an oriental grocery store! I came in search of something specific. Tofu fa...to eat when I break my fast today. I grabbed a small plastic cup of what I thought was tofu fa...it was Vietnamese yogurt. It was delicious, according to my husband. But not tofu fa. I love the variety of Asian spices and the prices are very good. And veggies! They have happy veggies! Cashier was very friendly. I love this place! Look at that cauliflower!
Even though I love this store I hate seeing people behind the counter serving food eating. They were literally shoving food into their faces like they havent eaten in 10 years. Maybe feed them before a shift so they arent violating food service safety standards and laws. We were going to order but sat and watched in horror as 3, not 1, not 2, 3 employees were eating from the food with their hands to be sold to customers. Almost filmed it, but realized posting videos here seems to not be an option anymore. So gross.
Huge and pretty well organized. This place has a fabulous selection of groceries from around the world. They also have some great fresh produce. The beer and wine selection is amazing, too. My favorite thing there though, is the fresh pandan waffles. A woman makes them up front to order and they are hot, fragrant, full of coconut, and delightfully green.
This store I would recommend if you are in a hurry… Everything goes well until you get to the fish line, you can be the first one there and everyone skips you, it’s not a line when everyone just comes out of nowhere and rushes in a hurry like they never seen a line before and the workers don’t say a thing and take their needs before yours, I would have have a 5 star if there was at-least stickers saying there was lines on the ground, or the workers taking your order first as they clearly see you are next and been waiting for a longer period of time. Overall experience is not bad besides the fish lines.
Such a large store! Great variety and pricing. I had been hearing about the market for so long and finally got to experience it. I will likely need to go again to look even deeper into what they have, but what I saw, was awesome. So glad to stumble upon potato starch at a very inexpensive cost. As someone who avoids gluten, I was pleased to see so many things that indicated if it was gluten free or made in facilities that process gluten. Definitely an adventure for the books! Some other items I bought were spicy (Sriracha) mayo, sesame seed oil, Thai sweet tamarind, chayote, oyster mushrooms, small bok choy, Thai bananas, red pearl onions, Chin Chin sugar free jasmine green tea, black chocolate, rice vermicelli, tapioca starch, and deglet noor pitted dates. Looking forward to the next chance to go.
The food is always good here! Since the dim sum is push around on the carts and all you have to do is point to what you want the service is quick. Only gripe I have is that I should have looked at the total of the meal carefully. I dont remember them automatically adding gratuity to the bill for parties of 6 which two were children. Just a heads up for anyone who have parties 6 or larger.
Hong Kong is best described as a spot to find hard to find items from other places. A combination of Latino and Asian foods populate the aisles. Theres much to find for casual goers and people looking to find specific items for their recipes. Its a recommended visit. Fun fact this place was a filming location for Netflixs Project Power!
To the owner whom replied: Is Panda King inside Hong Kong Market? Because I was inside the Hong Kong Market. Also, are you the nasty little manager who was closing checkout lanes while people we stacked up waiting for 15 minutes to check out?Dont ask for vegetable fried rice because they refuse to make it whenever you ask for it.
Fish market. Large produce section. Oriental, South Asian, Latin and other ingredients. Fresh tofu is a blessing. Large ramen section in back left corner.Chinese BBQ on the far right side (whole duck and rack of ribs in addition to to go plates).Kitchen tools, dishware, pots & pans and gas burners. Small cleaning section compared to a Rouses or Winn Dixie.Wonderful place to get less common ingredients. Pricing is erratic but prices themselves are good.
Busy, shelves well stocked, GREAT variety, friendly and helpful staff
Biggest selections of Asian- Middle eastern goodies and fresh meats, fruits, veggies and Vietnamese to go food & the best Bahnmi!
They have rearranged the fresh vegetables and I like it! The cleaned, headless shrimp is missing tho.
Authentic market, everything is really cheap which probably explains all of the good reviews - keeping the prices down is really bringing in the customers. I never shop but every time I come here my gf like omg it’s so cheap, I guess that’s good? There’s some interesting stuff in there and it smells but it’s definitely an authentic market.
Very good store with a large selection. This market reminds me a lot of the markets I used to go to growing up in the Bay Area. My daughter loves Asian snacks, especially anything with seaweed, and this market carries all of her favorites. Glad we finally visited; well definitely be back.
I give that place 5 stars. Why? Because they are having the good variety food, asian food are something delicious, it makes your heart meltdown like an ice cream. Go visit that place and you will know what I am talking about.
Some of the best produce in town! Also small bahn mi sandwoches for $3-4, which is about the best deal in town.
Excellent produce and meat departments. Expansive selection of Asian foods and a reasonable selection of American, Arabic, and Latin foods.
The place stinks, literally. Could only stand the smell for 3 minutes before I left..
Great sandwiches and food. Very good vegetables and fruit. Ground beef, ground pork and seafood. A lot of other foods. You need to visit.
This supermarket has everything you need in an Asian kitchen. I love their wide variety of fresh deli foods and ready made Vietnamese snacks and desserts.Theyre located conveniently in an Asian center, with other eateries around. I always pay a visit to this grocery store when Im traveling back home to Jackson, MS. Its a 3 hour drive for me, they always pack things nicely and my fresh meats on ice for the road.
Houston much better but it works as always could be cleaner
Amazing selection of international foods.Going through the produce section is an education in itself
Very thankful to have a large Asian market here in NOLA. Usually very well stocked and good brands.
Love it so many selections staff friendly havent had a bad experience ever♥️
Great selection of produce and herbs for reasonable prices. All kinds of Asian food, and ingredients for Asian food, that are hard to find at your regular grocer. Very fresh fish and meat also available. Quite a small selection of personal care and household items
4⭐ only bc this is the first time staff didnt act like they dont understand English. The guy and woman was very helpful. A rarity at HKFM. At least for me.
Awesome grocery store! This place is huge and so many great options! Found many different vegetarian and vegan options Im exctied to try!
Everything you can want and more, love this place
Huge market with a ton of variety, especially fruit/veggies. However, be warned the place has a very pungent smell. Fruit/spice/meat/seafood all at once.
Reminds me of the Hong Kong Food Market back in Houston. Great selection for all your Asian groceries. I wonder if the stores are related?
They have many things to pick from. They have fresh fish, and vegetables that you wont even believe exist. This is a amazing place to try things you have never tried. Their building also include fresh food places, I havent tried them myself. I recommend visiting here if you havent already.
Large selection of whatever it is youre searching for.... if you can find it. But been coming here whenever I feel adventurous and want to try making some type of oriental dish. Only thing is I am always scared to ask where something is but I am not going to judge the store based off my insecurities.
The employees in the seafood section was very disrespectful. I stood and waited for service for over 20 minutes with no one ahead of me. And I watched them snicker and smile all the while. And was told that the manager was up front but she/he never showed up. ☹
Best place for fresh produce at great prices, fish, and all things eastern. Love to go there!
It’s so tight and packed that it’s hard to get around the store. But it has lots of things you might like, such as different snacks, drinks, fruits, and seafoods.
Love their veggie options, and the discount table. Have to check whole store, tons to choose from and wide variety of products. The power pill review, top notch reference. Lol. Just watched that movie also!
Dirty store that need renovation ....I dont know the fish it was frozen and after they selling like fresh smell disgusting
An amazing selection of Asian foods and flavors as well as food from other ethnicities all at affordable prices. If you like ramen youll love this place. Their ramen selection is diverse and the ramens themselves are actually hearty, filling, and tasty.
Great bread.
On top of the wide (almost overwhelming) variety of imported items and ingredients, the banh mi is 💯 !!! $2.5-$4 for an awesome sandwich. Can’t beat it
Vast selection good prices friendly people.
This place is awesome anything Asian you can think of and so much more, I go once a week and still finding new stuff to try!
I get ALL of my meat and fish there. Fresh fish cleaed and gutted and fileted. Spare ribs. Quail. Fresh vegetables! I love it!
Great place. Fresh vegetables. Good stuff
Do you still have those power pills available? I believe they were stocked in the back of the store next to the alligator wine section.
Great variety of items. Nice prices
Place had odor not pleasant. Were able to find most things we needed for a special dinner. Bought lunch sandwiches tasted good.
It a decent Asian market
Smelled horrible, did look like it had a wide variety of vietnamese food
Good variety of Asian vegetables
Have a big variety of international products. Their vegetable selection is wide and they are fresh. They sell fresh meat and seafood. They sell bahn mih sandwiches that are very affordable and taste good.
I love this place so much. Since my trips to Tokyo this is the only place that can hold me over until I make another trip. Just amazing on what they have to offer. I just wish there were more ramen offerings. Best place to shop
Best vegetables, live crabs, fresh shrimp live lobsters and best International selections
Largest Asian food market in New Orleans. They should have most anything you need.
Awesome place to find foodstuffs you have never seen before, but crowded and a bit cramped.
This is a great little Chinese market. Reminiscent of the ones back in Shenzhen. Good selection of proper Chinese and other Asian ingredients.
I went there for something else and found a fish market. This is where Ill be buying my fish! It will save me a trip across the river plus it was gorgeous and so fresh.
In and out - - no problem
You can find anything youre looking for anytime
We come from Pennsylvania every year to visit our daughter in NOLA. Hong Kong market is a must !! We love the large variety of ....well EVERYTHING ! And we always get a sandwich on our way out. Some people come for bourbon street, we love your market !!
That duck is soooooooo goood
A lot to choose from. Went to use the bathroom and seen ducks hanging on the sink. Nasty!!!
The only issue was social distancing and spots not marked on ground. Love this place but afraid they will get shut down for non compliance
Love it. The workers were respectful and pleasant. Ill be back soon.
The variety is extensive and the prices reasonable. And the staff pleasant to you and helps when possible.
The only reason Im not giving Hong Kong a 5 star rating is because of the way the owner chooses to reply to negative reviews. There is absolutely no good reason to be rude to customers that had a bad experience and choose to share it. Aside from that, we had a wonderful visit. Even later at night the produce was very fresh, and they had a good variety for the area. They also had a huge selection of liquor and beer. For the New Orleans area, this is as good as it gets for Asian supermarkets. The cashiers were also very nice and helpful. The owner should just realize that customer service in the modern world also extends to social media/review platforms.
Hands down best grocery store atound here! So many different varieties of veggies for the best price in town. I live on the other sode of the river but still make the time to come here to have a bubble tea fron the front and get all the crazy ingredients to make delicious thai cuisine! 💜💜💜💜👍👍👍
This place. How have I only just now been to THIS place? What an amazing market. A huge selection of foods, great produce, and an expansive beer / liquor selection. Plus, convenient restaurants? Definitely worth a 5-star rating.
Fascinating. They have a lot of items popular in different cultures around the world. Never disappointing.
Im lucky that I work right next door to HKFM and I usually stop in on the daily. I have never seen so much variety as far as ethnic food choices before in a grocery store here in the States; they have everything! I dont even care for fruit but I do enjoy looking at all of the exotic fruits they have and their overall produce section is phenomenal! From their housewares section to prepared Vietnamese delicacies, HKFM has everything one could need. The staff is super friendly and the owners are very hands-on, which is refreshing to see. Its not that often where you go to places and see the owners working side by side with the staff; very humble and generous people. I recommend this store to everybody as theyre welcoming to all; Ive heard Vietnamese, Urdu, Spanish, Arabic, Kiche, English, Tagalog, Haitian Creole, French, Korean, Japanese, Portuguese and other languages spoken in there. In short---everybody is welcome!
I like Hong Kong Market. They have real fruits and vegetables; the kind you wont find at a traditional grocery store like Walmart, Rouses, Whole Foods, and Trader Joes. The shelves in traditional grocery stores are riddled with GMOs, which is extremely unhealthy and cancer-causing.
I like to pick up a new to me veggie so off to Hong Kong I go. But they have excellent heavily- filled Spring Rolls with a nice nutty sauce to go with.
THIS PLACE IS A DREAM COME TRUE AND I THANK THEM FOR BRINGING SPICES AND NOODLES TO ME IN VERY CLOSE PROXIMITY. THEY HAVE SO MANY VEGAN OPTIONS IN ADDITION TO THE SMELLS OF FISH AND SEAFOOD. I HAVE NEVER BEEN TO HONG KONG BEFORE BUT NOW I JUST SAY I HAVE BECAUSE IM SURE THEY ARE VERY SIMILAR. DONT THINK TWICE, JUST GO NOW! YES!
Ive been here a few times within the past couple of years and Ive always liked it. Its even better now with the new renovations! Theres a whole new produce section with a Vietnamese dessert and frozen yogurt restaurant. Its clean and organized and cheap! They have an extensive liquor section as well. Great new place for produce especially.
Prices are fantastic and the selection is amazing. The quality of vegetables is really good here, everything seems fresh.
Typical Asian market with a moderate pricing and low customer service with the distinct smell of decaying fish. Basically everything you expect from Asian market.
The cashier at station 7 at 11am Sep 20 suddenly closes the station while he sees a lot of customers on the line waiting for him. He works slowly as no energy at all. He is not respectful to those who spend time for waiting.
I love Hong Kong Market more than anything else on the West Bank.FOOD: Their produce selection is unreal - I have never seen so many different varieties of cabbage, cucumbers, radishes, lettuces, etc., and they beat even the cheapest competitors on price and quality. The counters at the back of the store have a ton of fresh fish and meat cuts on display, and the employees behind the counter are very helpful and knowledgeable. Endless sauces, spices, and teas, and a surprisingly well fleshed-out Mexican spice section.BOOZE: They have an excellent beer & liquor selection, too, at prices comparable to the Martin Wine Cellars of the worldCONS: Obviously the distance from home is a boon, but I will continue to drive it because the pros far outweigh the cons. My one true complaint is that they dont have a great cheese selection. I know cheese doesnt factor very heavily into Asian cuisine, so I certainly understand why the cheese selection is so slim, but the lack of cheese is the only factor preventing me from making this my primary/only grocery store.
It was my first time here and I needed some ingredients to cook some stir fry. I had some trouble finding things but an employee had helped me find everything I needed. There were so many interesting things to try on the snack isle as well. I would definitely have to come back to explore some more.
Found this place on a whim. Always well stocked, clean, and has everything you could ever want or need to make every Asian style food from Chinese, Cambodian, Japanese, Korean and beyond. Best prices on produce, huge seafood selection including live fish and lobsters. Spices galore, and even the cookware. Its not just a grocery store either. There is also traditional medicines, many restaurants and shops in a plaza surrounding the market.
Lots of choices but very busy and congested. Pick a slow grocery day to go so that you can actually see everything they have.
The best Asian market Ive ever been to. Super cheap meals that are awesome. Check out the roasted meats there too. They have live lobster and tilapia for purchase at the seafood counter. Very fresh products. Will return!
Wide variety of foreign and ethnic foods.
Bought bunches of snacks last night there for road trip back to Atlanta today. But theres a EXPIRED merchandise while I just ate in the car😡. Just look at the picture, this snack named Taiwan Prune printed with EXP 2017.07.28 while TODAY is 2018.12.25 Christmas Day🤬. Almost past ONE AND A HALF YEAR of its expiration date and its still placed on the dock for selling. I wish the staff should know what they are selling and what they shouldnt. Just a kindly remind to all the customers pay more attention at the expiration date of all merchandisea there. TRUST ME, PASS THIS ONE if you could have an alternative.
The Best!
This place is great. You can find unusual produce, not available anywhere else in the city. Selection of snacks and groceries are expanded. Live seafood is available. Overal this is the best ethnic market in town. Make sure to buy their bread.
This is my favorite Asian grocery store, as soon as you walk in they have a full service Vietnamese restaurant, Bubble Tea and Vietnamese Po Boy shop. Then the grocery store is the size of most major retail grocers! Pretty much any sauce, drink, produce, and cookware you would need to make an authentic asian dish is available here. Sometimes I go just to walk around and relax! Great spot for spending time with my wife after a long day of work! We often pick up some items go home and enjoy a stir fry with some jasmine tea!
