Fixed my car! Runs like a top and not as expensive as I thought it would be! Friendly and dependable!

These guys are excellent. I had them rebuild my 4l80e for a performance / towing application. It wouldve cost me $4800 for this transmission new, but I had them rebuild mine to handle 600 hp for a mere $1600. Even after I broke the transmission during installation, they took care of it for me for just the cost of parts.Great service, great communication, and they take care of their customers.

I highly recommend these gentlemen! They were recommended to me by a friend who used them, and was very pleased. I thought I had a transmission problem. Rick ran diagnostics and determined I actually had a misfire on an engine cylinder than made my transmission light come on the dash. He referred me to get to my regular mechanic to have them examine it. He spent a good deal of time diagnosing the problem and then wouldnt even let me pay him for his time! I dont think you could find a more honest or professional guy than Rick !Also, Rick tells me hes about to construct a whole new facility. Hope it goes well !

I had my transmission go out in Lawrence and decided to get it fixed in Lawrence. The estimate was slightly under 4k. Just because I drive a cool car does not mean I am rich. I had another shop look at a transmission issue i was having, i was quoted between $2500-$2900 for repairs. I was told by a friend to get a second opinion, so i came here based on a recommendation and had these guys look at it. It was repaired for half of what the other guys quoted. This is now the only place that will work on my transmission!!

Thank you Rick, Mat, and team for your thorough work! We originally bought our 2010 Dodge Grand Caravan from Ed Bozarth. From the beginning, we were continually having the same issue over and over. Ed Bozarth was unable to help, so they contracted out the work. Not long after, our van’s issue resurfaced. My husband took the van to Certified Transmission, twice. The first time, they reset the codes and couldn’t recreate the scenario. The second time, they told us it was a $4k fix. My husband told them no and decided to ask Ed Bozarth where they had outsourced our van’s work to previously, which was Smith Brother’s Transmission. Mat was able to diagnose the issue and it only cost $100! My husband says the van drives better than ever before! It was a smart choice to take our vehicle to someone who had worked on it before. If we had known who they were sooner, we would have started with them. On the day they looked at our van, they were able to fix it the same day! These gentleman were so professional. I had gotten a diagnostics on my car and was told that I needed to get a whole new transmission which was going to be 3,000 dollars, I haven’t even finished paying off my car yet so every option felt impossible in my situation, my grandpa then insisted on introducing me to Mat at Smith Brothers who took great care of me, he only had my car for one day and informed me that all I had was an electrical issue with my tail light, and needed a fluid treatment. I’ve never had such a great experience getting my car worked on, i could’ve cried when he told me how much money i was going to be saving and how easy of a fix it was. I will definitely be coming to mat with any questions or any new cars I would look into buying in the future. They’re very knowledgeable, honest and trustworthy, I will certainly be sending all my family and friends their way.

I brought my 2012 Ford Focus, which is notorious for having transmission problems and Rick got my car in ASAP. I told him to keep it overnight and he called me the next morning saying it isn’t the transmission and it is under warranty. Priced well below other transmission shops. I have been referred here a couple times by auto parts suppliers and have been treated fairly and courteously. If you need an honest answer at an honest price call them up. I know when my cars start acting up, they are my transmission shop of choice.

On 01-15-2019 we took a 1988 Dodge W-150 Pickup into be looked at because of transmission issues. It would not shift right. We dropped this vehicle off and went to eat lunch and when we returned the owner told us that the problem had been fixed. He also noticed another concern that needed to be addressed with the truck of which he showed us how to fix it. I was told I needed an additive for my transmission. After I brought my truck into his shop, he told me I needed a tune-up. Then he explained in detail how and why a tune-up would fix my issues. He didnt even charge me. I will go to him for my transmission needs. Good honest man. Thank you.

My car was jumping really bad when i took off. I took it to a different trans. shop and they said i needed a new clutch said it would be $700. I took it to Smith Brothers for a second opinion. Rick got in my car with me and took it for a thorough test drive.He told me he didnt think it was my clutch or transmission. He then made a phone call. After the phone call he said i was going to like this, pulled the car over and popped the hood. There was a big crack in my air intake hose.My family and I want to thank Rick for his honesty and for saving me $700.Very nice guy

I was having a grinding noise in my 05 Silverado. I had changed the cv joints and it stopped for a day, so I thought I had taken care of it. Well the next day it started again, so I thought it was the t-case because it got worse when in 4wdr. I called all the shops in town and got estimates on replacing or rebuilding the t-case. They all wanted anywhere from 1400 to 2600 just to swap them out for a rebuilt one.Well, I called Vern at Smith Bros transmission and he wanted to drive to drive my vehicle to diagnose it to see what the problem was before he gave any kind of price. He doesnt believe in just replacing a whole unit when its just one thing. So I took it to them to get it diagnosed. Come to find out it came down to a wheel bearing and not the transfer case and this was all done for FREE! With Vern driving my vehicle it saved me over $1400. While another place wanted to charge me 50 to do the same thing that Vern did for free. All I know right now if you need any transmission, T-case or rear axle work that you cant do yourself. Vern is the person to see, because he believes in treating people RIGHT!

This past week started off horrible, but quickly turned into a great one. One of my business vehicle sprung a leak. It went from a drip to a pour in two days. After stopping by Oreilly Auto Part store in SW Topeka, I learned that it was transmission fluid and that needed to get it checked out sooner rather than later or risk buying a brand new transmission. A New transmission for my 2003 Rendezvous starts at $2300. One of the guys in the parking lot walked by and asked me if I need to find a good transmission place to work on it, and gave me the Name Smith Brothers Transmissions. I walked in a little anxious and concerned, but after speaking with Rick Stallbaumer, Owner, all my fears were put to rest. My vehicle was taken in that morning 9 am and I got a call 4 hours later. I found out that he needed to drain the fluid and see if there was any damage. I received my second call an hour later and found that I needed a flush and fluid fill $200!I must say, usually it never goes this way! Ive known many people who have been taken advantage of by mechanics, saying the need a new transmission when they didnt. This was by far the first time I received good customer service without inflated price. Over the past two days Ive ran into a dozen of people who knew Rick Stallbaumer, and the team at Smith Brothers Transmission, who were not surprised with my experience.As a small local business owner, I do not have the luxury of being able to go without one vehicle for any short period of time. Based on their professional service and sincere integrity I will ALWAYS be a loyal customer. Give these guys a call. You will be pleased that you did.
