All the Big Y grocery stores are fine markets as I wrote in a recent review of the Avon Big Y. The Torrington Big Y renovated its interior awhile ago, maybe 2010?, into a more upscale shop like their others and customers welcomed the improvement. This particular Big Y makes great daily doughnuts. Everything in the butchers case yesterday looked fresh and impressive. If I didnt have dinner plans, the steak pinwheels looked beautiful. The only ribs for Labor Day we could find werent pork, but Angus beef, but this will be a delicious change.Like all grocery chains now, they use digital coupons you have to upload to your card from your online account. A spontaneous shopping trip, I didnt go online first to add any Id have liked to use, otherwise Id have bought their pound of butter on sale that could only be purchased with the digital coupon. Im not sure this helps seniors, or anyone too much unless they are computer savvy. A little pricier than some chains, but working sales and coupons a visit can always make the trip a good buy. Big Ys own brand includes some good products.

This is a great supermarket, they have everything and I love their pizza that you can order and puck up after done with the shopping.

Go here because its close.Associate friendliness and awareness is hit or miss. Service areas have slow react time on acknowledging customers.cakes are good, but dont let the associate pick which cake to give you, they give you the oldest cake there. My husband came back with a strawberry cake that tasted expired the next day. PICK YOUR OWN CAKE. Sandwiches are good depending on whos making it. Pizzas are good and good priced!

The daytime manager who was an older woman was rather unpleasant and seemed to have an attitude.It would have been nice to have been greated as a customer who frequents this store on a regular basis.I dont know if this is her daily deamenor but Id recommend she gets training on her customer service skills.I do however speak highly of Dave who is quiet pleasant.

Above the rest = top of its class = service is indeed world class, prices were a little high but the bargains are also there .... Staff is polite and informative . I think of returning soon

Well-organized aisles with beautifully displayed products of every kind! There are well-known products, as well as newer, locally sourced items, and seasonal bargains. The location includes a florist, pharmacy, butchery, creamery, bakery and pizzeria. The pizzeria only sells pre-made slices, so one cannot order customized slices (maybe they have not yet figured out a way to charge for made-to-order pizza) but must choose only from slices displayed in a vitrine.

Huge Clean very nice store. They have everything and then some. Super friendly and courteous staff. On the pricey side.

First time in the Torrington Big Y. What a wonderful grocery store. Far larger than I expected. Very nice layout with everything fully stocked. Wide aisles that are well lit but not starkly lit. Beautifully appointed shelving and cases with everything clearly identified. A huge step up from your usual grocery store.

Their selection of gluten free options s has grown extensively since I was last at this store.

Every product known to man... and some unknown! There is a pharmacy, a florist, stationery, butchery, seafood, pizzeria, creamery, bakery and café. Friendly staff. Self check-out and automated coin-sorter. One gripe is that the pizzeria only sells pre-made slices, with the employee telling me that “they are not supposed to add toppings” which they had added when pre-making the displayed slices only minutes before.

Let’s be real, the bakery here is out of control amazing. You can tell stuff is actually made from scratch, tastes fresh, just too good. Sushi is way better and fresher than stop and shop. And I love their sandwiches. Oh, and we all know the pizza is incredible too. But overall I feel like I don’t find as many sales here as other places and things end up being a bit more expensive. The selection suffers in some departments, but for example their Asian foods section has memmi and cupie mayo which other places don’t have. The atmosphere is nice. The produce department is the weakest link. The selection isn’t great and things are clearly not fresh many times. They don’t carry some basic things and hardly ever have worthwhile sales. It’s strange because the rest of the store is great except for these few issues. Overall I just really like the vibes of coming here and everything on the right side of the store haha

Highly impressed with the Winsted BigY. Their bakery goods are reminiscent of the quality breads you would get from a local bakery back in the 60s & 70s before big box stores became the norm. They have a really impressive selection of cheeses, including local ones. The fish is fresh, delivered almost daily. And the selection of meats offered is tremendous. Im sorry I didnt check out this store sooner.

Big Y is ALWAYS in my top 3 of grocery stores. The employees are polite and love to help with a smile on their face. Very clean and organized.

Fried fish and Clam Strip dinners were wonderful. Cant say the same for the Cole slaw. Terrible. Plenty of French Fries in the meal.

American owned! The store is ALWAYS spotless and brightly lit. They have a great selection and I have never left there without whatever it was that I went in for.

It has great products at decent prices. Everyone was so helpful and friendly except the night manager. I dont think I ever experienced a Karen who is also a manager.

Very competitive fresh produce, as well as deli and fish. Large store well assorted.

Horrible staff! Extremely rude and very displeasing. Employees treat you like a kid and will just disrespect you without even taking a breath in between their un-needed comments. Management needs to have sensitive training apparently.

Ok ok, we are not from Torrington.. we decided to do our food shopping here while passing by .. so far the cleanest, nicest place, it has peaceful atmosphere, stocked really well, lots of local stuff I would drive 30 minutes to come shop here. Kudos to the management!

The store is so big

We take markets like Big Y for granted.Its a step up from most markets.

Most expensive grocery store around and the quality is no better than anywhere else. The employees arent rude but they arent friendly either. The only positive thing that I can say is that the store is visually appealing, but that doesnt make up for everything else.

Its clean and well organized, and the Pharmacy is great too. This store has some things I cant get anywhere else.

Could not be a friendlier market ask for Abby in the flower department and cashier Anna, both delightful ladies! Such a wonderful place with wonderful people!

Good service and food

Ordered the fried shrimp dinner on 12/12. Only got 4 shrimp! Supposed to get 10. Shrimp were small. Never again. Stick to clam strips

Love their prices for fruit, veggies, and meat. Also, their flowers and fresh herbs, I minus one star because they dont have any old bread or bakery things. They donate it, which is cool, but thats a big part of my buying bread groceries shopping

My prefer shopping place. You have to shop smart or you can overspend though. I am not a big fan of their world classics brand or any big y store brand items. I always enjoy stopping by the back to check out the clearance items. The staff are always pretty helpful and nice as well.

I used to feel safe at Big Y in Torrington and shopped there often. But today there was a women shopping without wearing a mask and no one challenged her. She even checked out with a cashier! I no longer feel safe from Covid at this store. I will not be back. I’m disappointed in the Torrington Big Y

The Torrington BigY is any overall good store, but their prices can be on the high side if youre not shopping the sales. I have to say that the quality and freshness of their products is held to high standards. The fresh made pizza and bakery items are surprisingly good as well.

I live in Litchfield county. Been here for over 50 years. Times are ah changing and a lot of changes are crazy. Grocery shopping I hate. But I am happy to say that big y in Torrington is out performing all the other grocery stores around. Kinder more respectful more helpful and carrying good merchandise. And I hate writing reviews. Big y has excellent products but for lack of a better analogy the price of their products are a rip-off just as an example they must have bad labor problems because their prices are double.normally,a $2.75 quart of coffee creamer was $4 89.Thats what 2 quarts should be

What we have here is a well run operation. Check your weekly flyers and purchase wisely. This store has a lot of unique items. I always buy things that I dont plan to. Excellent staff and not hard to get out of there when you want to leave.

This is a nice store. Clean & well stocked. Employees are all pretty nice and helpful. Prices are a little higher than Id like but they always have good sales. Theyve recently installed several self scan registers. Im not a big fan of this.

Staff was very nice and knowledgable. I shop here frequently since its convenient to where I work. So Ill pick up a few things before I start my shift or before I go home after work. Only downside personally is that they dont carry a lot of fresh ocean caught fish. Youll find some in the frozen section but not too many fresh options.

Big Y in Torrington is such a nice clean store. The have an excellent meat department with a real butcher shop. The deli is nice and clean too. Staff on the whole store is very helpful.

I shop at this store all the time. It has everything I need & everyone is very, very happy and very helpful & friendly. I will tell all my friends to go there to shop.

Got to say, that its great to shop here. Easy to just get what you need or if you just wanted to get a snack for yourself. Muffins are gooooood!

I go for the deals but then they fool you. For instance a four pound bag of no name wings by one get one for $14.99, really? I fell for the no name precooked bbq ribs buy one get two thinking even there it cannot be more then ten dollars as is cheaper in other stores but no, it was $19.99. So if l go in there next week after the sale a pkge will cost me $20.00? Nice store, pleasant people but basically a rip off if you are trying to pinch pennies.

Do not go for pizza this is the third time I have walked in and ordered a pizza and waited 1 hour only to be told I wouls have to wait another 45 minutes. When I walke in and ordered they had no other ordes.

First time at this Big YAlways a challenge in a new store. Were employees all pleasant and helpful. Big Ys app is definitely not my favorite. No everyone is savy to get the bargains.

Big Y is awesome there store is ALWAYS spotless.There Angus beef is the best meat available.They too occasionally also have excellent sales.I also like the fact that if you ask someone where an item is, they stop what there doing and actually show you were it is.

December 10, 2019I go here for the meat section, it is reasonably priced but the quality is very good. Best place outside of a butcher shop to find meat. The only reason I rate it 4 out of 5 is because everything else os way overpriced. I will drive over to Market 32 for the better deals.Edited December 11, 2019I do have a BigY card but still find better deals at market 32 (I have a member card here as well), price right, and walmart. But thank you BigY for the offer for the card.

Really love this store. Its a bit on the pricey side but they have a wonderful selection of localy sourced goods. Way worth the extra $ in my opinion. I dont do regular shopping here but I do go for certain things.

Produce is always fresh. They have a great variety of cheese, fresh bread and their seafood department is s favorite of mine.

I dont usually shop here but I was told they had a party size pizza, so I ordered one and was nothing but an awfully cut, mountains of dough pizza. Thats all. Thanks. Bought Friday June 26 at 430pm.

Their produce and fresh bread area is pretty good compared to some other stores in the area as well as other big ys Ive been too. Decent selection of organic stuff as well.

Everyone that works there are very sweet people, the store is always clean and the employees are helpful if you need something. I love our local Big Y, just about all the employees know my name and daughters name. When I go with out with out my daughter I am asked Wheres Frankie, How is she today? Trish (who works there) always gives Frankie stickers and she even bought my daughter a christmas gift. Ive been going to that big Y for about 6 years now, and everyone is just soo courteous, friendly. I absolutely Love my local Big Y
