I am a violinist. The shop is in a nice part of town and has a pleasant feel. Instruments of all kinds all around. The shop owner was super nice and helpful. Her knowledge was impressive. I went there to get a new chin rest and she brought out a few different kinds for me to try. The prices are agreeable and it was a pleasant experience. My violin’s varnish was messed up where my old chin rest was and she patched it up for free. When I asked for a tool to change my chin rests out she gave that to me for free as well. Great place to get student to advanced instruments and options range from around $200 to $4,000+. I would 100% recommend to anyone looking for a new string instrument or accessories, repair of an older one, or even to talk. Great time!
I called prior to ask for help tuning my new violin and was told I could stop by and she would take a look at it for me. Upon arrival Deborah was very inviting and tuned my violin for free. She gave me advice on future purchases and answered any questions I had. Thank you for a great experience Deborah. Kindness goes a long way.
A great little shop we are lucky to have local!!
Nice local music store with much more than violins. Theres a whole section of gongs from tiny to HUGE which inspired me to invent the word Gongalicious. Great, if eclectic, selection of hand drums too. I picked up a nice bongo stand for about 50% less than the chain stores.
Lovely shop. Nice selection of affordable and good quality violins and bows. You will feel very comfortable just walking in and looking at things!
FRIENDLY and practical luthier. VERY realistic and helpful. Reasonable prices. Knowledgable about a lot of musical items; but a true expert of String instrument repair and care.
From violen cello viola Bata drums and more. The women was very educated in the merchandise.
I had a horrible experience at this place about a year ago. This review is well overdue. I went to inquire about repair of a violin and costs of a new violin. The woman, cant remember her name, might have been Deb. Either way she is not that important. She made it pretty clear that she didnt want to repair my violin. Made excuses as to why she didnt want to do it. I asked her for costs of a new violin, I received the response of These violins are up to 3,000 dollarsand she said as if I couldntt afford them. She also told me that there is no gurantees in life. about products in the store working that she is selling. I couldnt believe the disrespect of this woman. I spoke to her several times on the phone she was sweet and inviting. When she saw who she was speaking to she went on an attack. I am a black woman so she didnt want to give me service, and I couldnt afford a violin. Persons of african descent. I strongly suggest to stay away from this rickety shop. It looks like she is selling used items that are overpriced and I let her know that.
Basically, their quotations are based on the reselling value of your violin. I brought a Germany violin for repairing a small crack on the top (not crucial), and they quoted me over $1000 while another luthier in the Capital Region took $200.
Deb is a great luthier and very kind and personable woman. Her shop has all kinds of musical treasures beyond thr violin family, but is home to sone beautiful violin family instruments. Her repair and refurbishing work is fantastic and she is great at helping musicians figure out how to get the best sound from their instrument!
Nice store
