Very nice museum with a lot of history of dinosaurs and the like. Very clean and well laid out. Cute dig area for the kids as well as a cute gift shop with some reasonably priced items (and really cute T-shirts). A fun way to pass the time while we waited to check in to our hotel. Very friendly staff as well. Overall a great place to visit while in the area.
Super surprising museum. We were skeptical because of the neighborhood, but this is a well done museum. We travel cross country almost twice a year and have visited many many many museums.Staff was very friendly and professional, the gift shop is very educationally stocked with gems/coloring books/informational books/building kits/lifelike dinosaur action figures/games/ tshirts/stuffed animals and more, boxed water sold as well 😀.Bathrooms are very clean, smelled good and stocked.Museum itself is carpet and well lit to display the exhibits appropriately. The exhibits range from natural rocks, fossilized trees and shells, dinosaur bones, dioramas, viewing area of the lab where techs work, kids play area with coloring station, dig site with shovels and bones (in crushed walnuts), and a Dino with a saddle to sit on too. There was a lot to see.You can make this a quick trip and walk through to stretch your legs and the kids run or take your time and take in all the information available on each exhibit. This is a kid friendly place where the kids can have fun. They have to be supervised so they dont go into the dioramas, but there is plenty to touch. We made a fun game where the kids had to find the green go hand to touch something. All in all a great value and quick stop off the freeway. We took less than hour and took our time without reading every sign.
This is a must see spot if you are in the area. Easy parking for vehicles but if you are in a motor home or camper I suggest parking on the street. The have a clean, well designed museum with a small dark exhibit room with an interesting rock display, great history, and larger exhibits that are sure to please any crowd. They also have an interactive exhibit that is great for children. Clean restrooms, friendly staff & awesome gift shop. We love Mesalands Dinosaur Museum!
Every time I drive I-40 through New Mexico, I tell myself, Next time Ill stop. Today I did, and Im so glad! This is a thoroughly delightful facility, with engaging exhibits, unique bronze casts of fossils (as well as the real thing), and a peek into a working paleo lab. Great stop for restless kids and adult bone nerds. Highly recommended!
Absolutely loved our day trip to Mesalands Dinosaur Museum! We decide to head out of town just for a short get away with the kids and decide to visit here. Definitely did not disappoint. The scenery on the way there was simply breathtaking (we took the shorter route). All of the kids enjoyed it to the max (we had 4 kiddos with us and 6 adults) It was affordable and only a tank of gas for this family fun day. The staff were very friendly and knowledgeable about the exhibits. The gift shop was also great (came away with some very beautiful and rough stones). Definitely on our list to go again 😁.
Great price and great exhibits. My daughter enjoyed every moment of the museum, especially digging for Dinosaur bones.
What a treasure! I didnt expect to find anything like this museum when I got off I-40 to try a little bit of the path less taken. The museum is pretty chill on the outside, more humble than the exhibits within warrant. Theres plenty of parking, and youll probably only have one or two other families for company.Students comprise the staff. Theyre well informed and friendly. I felt that they were genuinely interested in helping me get the most out of my visit.Admission was $8 per person when I visited. Well worth it.Inside the museum youll find a stunning array of prepared fossils. Most are dinosaurs, but there are a few other organisms as well. Several preparations are cast bronze! Theyre absolutely beautiful. You can also see fossils in all stages of preparation and watch the preparators through a large window. Great learning experience for adults and children alike.I will go back here with my kids.
This museum is a hidden treasure. Small enough not to be overwhelming but large enough to keep your interest and be fascinating as well as entertaining. I went with my son, it was one of the first museums where he’s actually been allowed to touch things. Fun for every age and very inexpensive.
Great place to visit. It was with the drive to Tucumcari to visit. The price is reasonable. The museums layout is nice and visitor friendly. Full of information and an all around great place to visit.
This museum is awesome. Incredible collection set up in a manner that engages the visitor. The exposition is very thought provoking. There is a section with images and documentation from NASA that shows the recent effects of climate change on our planet, and how similar changes were precursors of the large extinction of the dinosaurs. The casts and remains of the dinosaurs and early planetary life, along with stone collection make the visit an extraordinary educational experience.
My son loved the museum, he is a dinosaur enthusiast! It has a fair amount of dinosaur artifacts. Worth a visit!
Had a great time touring today. A great inexpensive attraction for all ages. Very informative.
We stopped by this museum on a whim on our cross country road trip from CA to AL. My 3 year old loves dinosaurs and this little museum did not disappoint. It well very well done, had interactive displays and activities for the kiddos, and the staff were students at the local community college, so they helped answer all our dinosaur questions. It was the perfect way to take a break from driving and spend an hour, I’m so glad we found it, and I highly recommend it to anyone passing through the area!
Very nice, unexpected historical treasure.
This a very informative museum. Its rather small, though. Only $8.00 entry fee; $6.00 for seniors.
Excellent museum with things the archeology students have found on legitimate digs. Well worth it.
Popped in with my 7 and 1 year old on a road trip to get them out of the car and to stretch their legs. They absolutely loved it! Staff was super friendly and sweet with my kids, definitely recommend to anyone passing by
I estimated there are almost 300 rocks and gems. The fossils, local and from around the world, are impressive.
Great for all ages... Highly recommended to visit... Ill visit again
Really enjoyed our stop here! Educational, fun! GREAT place for all ages. Handicap accessible. Hands on, dinosaur sand dig for little ones, too. Great opportunity to see current research for older kids and adults...dioramas. casts, skeletons, and bronzes. Nice gift shop, too and friendly people!
Great museum for the little town it resides in. Very friendly staff, cool artifacts, even a kids play area. If you happen to be in the area and looking for something to do with the fam, drop in and have a gander.
A must visit...
Really fun and interactive for all ages
Fun first the little ones.
Very informative and fun. Great collection of really really old stuff. Lol
If you like dinosaurs this is a must be place. Great exhibits.
Very cool place. We were on a road trip and decided to stop here on our way. Very interesting and the kids liked it.
Super affordable, kids had a blast. Not real big so it was perfect for a quick stop on our road trip.
Awesome Lil spot for a break from travel. Kids loved it. Nice Lil gift shop as well. Nice people.
A family tradition. This museum is designed to get kids interested and entertain patrons of all ages. Their inventory of fossils and displays over the ages are really worth seeing.
This is a total hidden gem. Its small, but the bronze casts of dinosaur bones are really interesting. It is SUPER kid friendly. Fair warning, the gift shop in the front is full of dinosaur toys that you will end up getting for your kids. This was the perfect rest stop for Dino crazy kids.
Grandkids loved all the exhibits and information about the 🦕
This is a real treasure for Tucumcari! Have visited multiple times over the years while visiting family. Took my children & last time, my grandson!
This is such a great place! I wish I could have visited when I was a kid, what a wonderful adventure!!! The staff were very accommodating and socially pleasing. Take your kids while theyre young!!! Go when youre old and play like a kid! Either way, I HIGHLY suggest enjoying this experience, SO AWESOME!
This place was amazing! In the middle of nowhere New Mexico this was a very welcomed stop on our road trip. Price was nice and the museum itself was well kept and very hands on.
Very cool museum. Check it out when youre in town.
It was awesome my daughter LOVES dinosaurs and we were driving through and got there late but a man let us in and we got to look around, there is some neat stuff and the girls got to dig for fossils it is definitely worth seeing!
This was a fun and informative museum. My grandkids and myself enjoyed it very much
Great little stop off I40. The kids were able to stretch their legs and play. The museum is very kid friendly. There are lots of touch things and theyre clearly marked. They also loved the digging area!
Very educational, beautifully executed displays, I definitely plan on bringing my son sometime in the future when Im able to travel again.
Cool sign on the side of the road said to visit this place. We exited the 40 and followed some faded but yet still visible dinosaur tracks (literally painted on the road) towards this museum. The town itself looks like something out of an apocalyptic sci-fi movie. I couldnt tell if the town just died a long time ago or if it just looked abandoned due to COVID. The Museum on the other hand was warm, welcoming and amazing. I originally scoffed at paying high prices for entry but paid anyway. My family was not disappointed in the exhibits. You can tell there is a lot of heart that goes into this place. It was totally worth the visit. Thanks!
Small museum with some very good displays. Many of the articals on display are from New Mexico.
Nice place to visit and enjoy how it long time ago! Great rocks and theres a working lab there too that you can look at through the window!
Fossils, art, minerals, sculptures and more are all in this modest sized museum. The Mesalands Dinosaur Museum works with paleontologists and students to discover remnants of the past. Visitors can watch paleontologists at work in the lab from windows in the museum, feel some fossils (touching is permitted for displays with a green hand), listen to what a Parasaurolophus may have sounded like based on computer simulations scientists as Sandia National Laboratories created from CT scans of their fossils, ride Bootz The Dappled Dinosaur, and more. Kid friendly, cool, and educational, we enjoyed our visit immensely.
An amazing museum with a large collection of fossils. Many hands-on experiences and a must stop for all dino lovers.🦕🦖
Its incredible. Please do visit very educational for young kids as well us for adults. I would like to thank Linda and the crew for keeping the place very nice. Please lets preserve our History without it we are nothing. Pack and go to your nearest museum and encourage our kids to understand even simple history of our hometown. Im very glad to experience the magnificent place.
Family of 6. Neat little museum. Clean. Very friendly and helpful at front desk.
It made for a nice pitstop has lots of displays and an open viewing of all the paleontologists at work. Fantastic area for kids to dig for bones and lots of hands on displays for kids to actually touch and feel.
Didnt believe that there are real dinosaurs until I visit here. Nice and well maintained place. Very fair rates . מקום מקסים שווה ביקור
We needed a place to give our two-year-old son a break on our road trip. We happened upon this really cool little dino museum and were pleasantly surprised at how much fun we had. They have a great collection and several really fun activities that allow kids to get their hands dirty. Definitely check it out if you have little ones.
Cute little place! Green hands on displays show where its ok for people to feel away. Loved the music inside. Very informative pictures everywhere
Very interesting museum. Staff was very knowledgeable, friendly and helpful.
Fantastic place!!! One of the best dinosaur museums Ive been to. The people there were all very knowledgeable and friendly.
Ive been to many dinosaur museums and this one is unique. They had a different variety of dinosaurs that other museums just dont have. There is also active paleontology work goi g on in a lab that you can watch the active job of preserving fossils. I love the walnut shell dinodigs and the hi tech vertual water and sparkling white sand exhibits. I especially love Boots the saddle wearing dinosaur perfect for photo ops. The gift shop had the best quality and variety of dino souvenirs. The bathrooms were high tech. Self flushing toilets, and hot water flowed automatically from the taps. I liked that the entrance way was an enclosed space so the weather is separate from the main store lobby. I would love to come again.
Fun experience! Learned a lot! Hands on exhibits for the kids. Highly recommend!
The museum is very well done with lots of good information and kids interactive activity. Staff is friendly and helpful
Great museum! Amazing for the size of town. It is associated with the University so it has some pretty amazing displays, fossils and dino exhibits. It is definitely worth a visit if you are in the area and like dinos or fossils.
I loved it fun to look and touch bones while learning! 10/10 would go again!
Great place to walk around and view bones and history
One of the greatest paleontology museums ive ever been too!
I had low expectations. This museum blew my mind. It highlights the work of the local community college and their paleontology program. I highly recommend it. Unlike other museums, this one encourages hands on and touching.
Awesome place! Very friendly staff and interesting displays! Great for kids!
It was a lot of fun and very informational. Great for Families and kids!
Wonderful exhibits and specimens. Ver knowledgeable staff.
Friendly and knowledgeable staff, great stop on our road trip
Top notch! A really pleasant surprise - Smithsonian quality exhibits.
