Love this place! Its been a favorite of ours for years! Theyre practically open year round, 24-hours a day. Only Covid shut them down, but not for long. The decor may be a little dated to some, but it doesnt bother me at all! They have jukeboxes at some of their tables and they offer a broad menu for relatively decent prices.
The people are nice there the prices are great but the food needs improvement Just sharing my opinion
Four Star is the second diner Ive revisited after a very long hiatus behind The Coach House. This used to be my go to place for great food at great prices any time of the day or night.The food was always fresh and delicious and the staff was always helpful and friendly and they kept the place clean.This was still true about 2yrs ago when I went for dinner very very early breakfast alone after taking my wife to work. The pancakes were fluffy, the potatoes fluffy yet crispy and seasoned perfectly, sausages perfect, overall a wonderful experience.Im sure they were hit hard with COVID these last 2yrs, but many other restaurants, both bigger and smaller, have been through the wringer as well and some have even become better than before. Four Star has just gone downhill and appeared to have not even attempted at recovering.First off, Im really not one of those people, but the staff were inconsistent with masks. Some were wearing, some werent, some halfway; like I said, Im not one of those people who cry about masks being on or being off for the sake of wearing them or not. As a food service professional and business owner, I just ask for uniformity.Second, the place was pretty dirty. The table next to us was not cleaned until we were leaving and it had been dirty from before we sat. Now it only had an empty coffee mug and crumbs on the table, but it speaks volumes when there are at least 3 servers and 2 bussers all gathered together joking around mere feet from the table. Yes the diner had almost no customers, but I can guarantee if the staff arent cleaning little things like that, there are bigger issues which I am getting to.The staff.
Old school diner - you wont be disappointed if you stick with diner basics.
Great prices, Great service, everyone here was so nice. But.. the food was not good nothing most had no taste/flavor meatloaf was very dry no taste, soup tasted like hot water with mushy rice, mixed veggies gross, burger super dry not taste. I really wanted to like this place because the prices are great an so are the employees. Maybe use some seasoning an change up how things are cooked.

In the past this place has been great. I ordered online. Was shuffled to another counter to get pick up. The lady who finally attended me didn’t know where to get my food. I ordered a Mediterranean omelette and burgers. The omelette was just a scoop of egg whites nothing else from menu. No toast nothing and no veggies for the omelette. Burger was nothing no lettuce or anything or fries. Unfortunate disappointment
I had an horrible experience. I ordered roasted chicken. The chicken was half raw. Im happy that we notice it was not cook properly. Otherwise it would have make me very sick. My husband ordered a sandwich with coleslaw on the side. That coleslaw did not smell or taste good. They claim that it fresh. That is far from reality.
The nearby Ihop had a long wait, which we’re grateful for since the diner was amazing.There was no wait, friendly staff and great food.
I miss being closer to this place but even though I am a few towns over, still occasionally order for delivery. This place still delivers quality, delicious food.
Horrible ! I ordered 2 burgers well done and the left them uncooked the meat was raw super red. Disgusting.
This place is absolutely phenomenal, spectacular food. This place has been here for years and I’m not a burger fan but I love the burger deluxe from here, always fresh food served hot on time, the waffles are delicious, the breakfast meals are the best in town. Absolutely phenomenal place. Always friendly.
This is a location that has been around for awhile and brings lots of nostalgia. The prices are very different from back in the day but the place still feels very family friendly and easy to enjoy the diner experience.Im not in NJ often but i try to visit here when i am. The staff is helpful and attentive, with Covid Protocols being followed well and safe place to eat.

GREAT hospitality but the food was blah. I ordered a cheese omelet with spinach and the spinach taste like the freezer. My son liked the mozzarella sticks though.

I liked my experience here, good customer service, I liked the old school vibes and but the was just ok. I ordered 2 eggs any style with bacon, a small order of pancakes and coffee. The food was served to me pretty fast and everything was ok. The price is also ok. I would recommend but don’t expect to fall in love with the food, just know they have a huge menu and they serve diner and breakfast 24/7, it’s pretty convenient and you can expect good service. I took a picture of the menu because their site doesn’t work. Hope this helps!

The server was so rude didnt ask us if we needed something we kept having to call her she kept messing up the order then would suck her teeth when we mentioned the wrong order came, the chicken soup has no chicken & the lasagna had no flavor at all.
Havent had a bad waiter yet! Everyone here is so nice. Food is good as well but the environment is where this place shines.

We took a $40 Uber from Times Square and it was worth it. We walked in and was welcomed by a man and introduced to our waitress Amber and she was very friendly and made us feel at home. Very helpful helping us select our food and explained everything. Ribs and Diane Chicken was delicious not to mention the cheesecake was sooo good. Highly recommend this place to travelers like us. Thank you ! Loved it!
I dont know where to start with this place, once you walk in you can sit where ever and if your lucky enough to have 2 quarters theres record players build around the diner where you can play either modern music or artists like Bruce Springsteen. The food is good, the sweet potato fries had a nice crunch to them and you got that sweetness that was just right. I had a cheeseburger with fries and it was good but if you dont put enough ketchup it tastes a little try but overall this place is great, the waiters are very nice and reccomend this establishment
Lives up to their name burgers are delicious service to die for we had got the cheeseburger onion rings and fries all delicious if it was possible to give them five stars I would but I did find some black things floating in my drink water is delicious though overall I give it 4 1/2 stars I really do recommend

I ordered a gyros panini. The meat looked and tasted like medium quality dog food. Mushrooms were canned. The sauce spilled and soaked the whole sandwich. All that for 16$. There are a million times better paninis in Italian delis under 10$. It was clearly a mistake ordering from this place.

I came from Brooklyn, so I usually go to Johns deli. This place has a high standard. That being said, this place is good. I am sure that once I have a chance to try more than the roast beef, it will grow on me. The sandwich was good, but I ordered on line. I think it would have been great had I have, ordered in person.

I ordered egg whites with spinach for $6.95. My son ordered a side order of ham and bacon they both $6.95 each. Can someone explain to me how come a side order is the same price as breakfast order? Also after 11:00 A.M the server tells me the breakfast changes 🤔

They should rename this place zero to one star diner. I walked in there with the desire to eat some afternoon breakfast and just relax. I ended up rushing to eat my food and ready to run out. This place does not care about anyone’s well being. They let anyone walk around without a mask, even the manager didn’t have his on all the way. Customers were allowed to walk around clearing their throat and coughing and not a single staff member said a thing to them about wearing a mask. I confronted the waiter and manager about this and they said that they were going to tell the customer something about wearing a mask but this is after the other customer was ready to leave and I was already checking out. The funny thing about this place is that they check your temperature before you take a seat as if that’s enough proof that everyone that steps foot in that place is clear of any sickness.

We fell on this spot on after a 8hr drive on Christmas evening. Waitress took some time before taking our order but kept on apologizing. It was obvious they lacked staff. We had one burger and one philly steak. Both were tasty. Many choices on the menu, good prices.

Waitress Lisa is very attentive and wonderful. The food is your average diner food. Nothing extraordinary. My biggest issue is places that cant cook eggs properly. Eggs should NEVER have runny whites! For that reason I always ask for eggs over medium. When I do that they usually get it right. Coffee is pretty good. Overall I come here because of Lisas great service, decent food, and convenience of being close to home.

We used to love going to this diner. The waitress Lisa is the best, my daughter loves her. However, one of the others waitresses wears entirely way too much perfume. I totally get that you should be allowed to dress/wear whatever you like but when it gets to the point that I am TASTING your perfume, something has to give. I am very sensitive to smells to the point of getting migraines. My husband mentioned it quietly to the owner and was given a shrug in response. So, unfortunately, we cant go back. The smell is just really TOO MUCH.

Well the food was cold I sent it back and the cook of course microwaved it...and it was still cold. No one offered to see why so when I asked for the manager the Russian or Albanian manager didn’t have the requisite knowledge of customer service, she was just a zombie of a figurehead in a position that requires understanding of how to make what happened better, so it’s no wonder why what happened, happened. Needless to say I won’t be going back to the incompetence of food that a 5 year old could make better. Pitiful

Nothing like going back home, and going back to a very familiar place like the Four Star Diner. Service and food are excellent. Very comforting to go to one of my favorite places to eat from my childhood.

Service was great! I thought maybe because it was busy service would be lackluster but it wasnt. Not only was I greeted at the door but as I passed every waitress too. Food was great, quick, hot and exactly how I ordered it. Oh yeah, if you like strong coffee this is definitely the place! Coffee was amazing! I had the Belgian waffle with eggs and sausage. My husband had corn beef omelet with fries. Everything was great! We will be back!

Honestly, everyone in the area knows this diner isnt anything extraordinary and thats okay. Ive never had a bad experience there until today. I walked in with my daughter for a Christmas dinner and the older woman who waited on us was extremely rude...she kept saying what ever the menu says whenever I asked her a question. She didnt know what kind of vegetables they had, grabbed our menus from our hands and walked away with half of our order. She returned to tell us They didnt have the appetizer we wanted (which was indeed on the menu as an option). I asked her what she could offer us instead and she raised her voice this time saying again, I SAID WHATEVER THE MENU SAYS! At this point Id had enough and went up to the front counter to complain about her being so rude and the man just looked at me as if I was crazy. I cancelled my food and said I would be leaving...then a woman (maybe a manager)followed me back to the table and offered me a slice of cake as I grabbed my things, only after the waitress walked up to the counter and denied the entire situation even happened. I get it was unfortunate she had to work on christmas, but she didnt have to try and ruin ours. NEVER AGAIN!
I love their burger meat. Great service. However, I would suggest a bigger selection of pasta.
Everything was fine with me until a friend of mine asked to see the kitchen. Apparently, its our right to see where and how our food is prepared. I was willing to let the managers respectful decline, to see the kitchen, slide. But then it got me thinking. Id had a few belly aches after eating there. Not saying it had to do with the cleanliness but Ive been reluctant to return since then.
Would absolutely recommend eating here. Fantastic atmosphere, yummy food, good customer service. Great work.
