They have some delicious sandwiches. The ingredients are quality. And their bread has a nice robust flavor and softness. The crudo dandwich might be my favorite and while a simple few ingredients, they take care to get the quality right. Also, they make their own Gelato with a rotation of flavors!

The food is excellent but it is quite unfortunate that the opening times posted are not accurate. Ive been there in the afternoon only to be told they are on a break. they should post the actual times when they are open so as to not make customers waste their time.

Fyi: imo this place is actually 2/5, but i always leave 5 stars for local/non-chain places, bc i feel kinda guilty otherwise. note: i havent had their sandwiches yet, so maybe ill change my mind once i try those.---we got the eggplant parm and meat sauce; tbh when we got to the store, we didnt really want the parm bc it was so small, but whatever, thought i need to try it at least once cuz i live so closewhen we got home we realized the sell by date on the parm was like 3-5 days ago (cant remember exactly, but it was surprisingly long). not sure why this was still being sold or labeled like that.kinda wish i got a sandwich, feel like maybe that wouldve been a better buy, but i only realized they had those as i was paying (the menu is a paper on the desk)taste wise: both were fine. i mean they were good, but i guess i was expecting more because of the quality/authentic ingredients shpeel. but i guess i shoulda expected that tbh since i don’t think my taste buds are good enough to notice/appreciate things like thatbut yea pretty awful value overall id say; the portions are tiny (which i understand its bc the ingredients are prob expensive), but regardless, at least for someone like me, its not worth it

Walk in as a first time customer and the guy was very rude towards me. Did not say good evening, how may I help you! Saying I would have to wait 45 minutes before my order would be ready, because he had other orders before me. I was the only customer in the store. The he aggressively asked what do you want to order in a very nasty tone. I told him this was my first time and I was checking out the menu. I asked was your deli on the north of 12th street, he said no in a nasty tone voiceI said thank you and left the store very unhappy withwithout ordering anything 😡. I will never return to this unprofessional deli. You are in a neighborhood setting, where many people come to support your business.

The only place I could find Mozz di Bufala anywhere around here. Also carry the best brand of anchovies, Agostino Recca. Good prices and owner Ettore is a great source of knowledge. Some of their best stuff is hiding, so if you can’t find something you think they may have, be sure to ask. Will continue going here for speciality pizza items, especially those that are perishable.

Wow! Got sandwiches delivered from here (crudo and porchetta) and every detail of the order was delicious. The bread is freshly made and has a nice baguette-like crust to it. The mozzarella, meats, and veggies all had great flavor. I dont normally take note of texture on a sandwich, but every ingredient had exactly the texture that it should to the point where it really elevated the overall quality - creamy mozzarella, tender meat, and veggies with a bit of bite (plus the amazing bread).

Great breads and cured meats. Plus all sorts of good, obscure Italian products. No room for the mainstream staples of an Italian market, like San Pellegrino drinks (not even the less-well-known ones, like Chinotto). But the real reason to come here or for a sandwich on their amazing bread. Theyre all wonderful!

UPDATE: they’ve changed to a dense, doughy roll which isn’t great. Likely a supply chain issue during the pandemic. Finally found the best Italian deli in DC. Tried Vace and A. Litteri but this is the best. I really like the shopping experience at A. Litteri and their sandwiches are good but the bread could be better. While it may be more $$$ than the other two, all the meats and cheeses are sliced to order, the bread is made in-house (I’m told) and the service was excellent. Happy to hear they’re opening a second location in NoMa.

I didnt think Italian delis existed in this part of the country, but this place certainly is one. I am eating the Crudo sandwich as I type this. The fresh baked bread is amazing and its certainly a great sandwich. The only thing I would change is Id add roasted peppers and balsamic vinegar to it. Next time Ill try that and see if thats available. The sandwiches are a bit pricey and small compared to NY, but theyre very good. At first I figured its because they use Prosciutto di Parma which I know is very expensive, but all the sandwiches are about the same price.Overall, Im very happy that this place is so close by and Ill definitely be getting food here again.

A great little Italian deli from the same owners of the neighboring my favorite pizza place Menomale. Here they offer delicious fresh homemade pasta, sauces and cheese. Im a big fan of Italian salumeria. I was so happy to buy Culatello, a hard-to-find prosciutto outside Italy. All the food was amazing!

If you miss Europe, take the Metro to Brookland and walk to Salumeria. This small Italian deli will transport you back to Rome. The cured meats hanging from the ceiling, the wine on the shelves, and the deli menu will have you coming back for more. Its owned by nearby Menomale, a top rated pizzeria, and open for lunch and dinner. They bake Italian pastries (canoles, brownies, etc), pasta salads and an array of sandwiches. Their top seller The Italian is excellent coming with several meats on a hard Italian sub. Their crudo sandwich for $9.50 is really good. Note: Their sandwiches dont have as much meat on them compared to other delis like Seventh Hill or Mangialardos. The staff are super helpful, friendly, and honest. The worker told me what was good and what wasnt the best, which is helpful and makes me trust her.If you want a good deli, venture up to Brookland, grab a sandwich, and wander the beautiful streets of Brookland.
