Y wife and I recently purchased a Subaru Outback from Scott Thurn. He was great to work with! Very patient and understanding while we went through the process. After purchasing the car, we had to wait about 2 months for the car to be completed, so Scott was generous enough to let us borrow a loaner car for that time period. Although it wasnt an Outback, it let us get accustomed to a Subaru vehicle! When we were finally able to pick the car up at the end of October, the vehicle was waiting with a full tank of gas and a fresh wash! We were in and out in an hour and it was a smooth process! Ill recommend Scott to anyone! And we had to travel from Des Moines, cheapest place we could find for a new Subaru!!
This is the second Subaru we have purchased from C & S Subaru in Waterloo. We have dealt with Scott T on both cars. I have done a lot of comparison pricing in the NE corner of Iowa, SE MN and SW WI and C & S has the best deals! They are very attentive and communicate about each stage of the buying process. I had already been played a couple times by other dealerships that week, so Im sure my attitude towards them at first wasnt the most pleasant, but it went so smoothly and better then I could have asked for.Cameron was wonderful to work with. By far one of the best experiences I have ever had. Not just at a car dealer. I found a car online that seemed perfect for me. I live an hour away and would get there less than 20 minutes before they closed. You would have thought I got there hours before they closed. They didnt rush me. They were amazing. Knew I wanted a Subaru, but dont always like going in to make the deal so to speak, seldom care for the experience. Scott Thurn was the sales person i worked with. We purchased a 2021 Palisade from C&S. Prior to arriving at C&S, we were shopping at another dealership closer to where we live in the Des Moines area. We were not satisfied with what was being offered for our trade in at the “not to be named” dealership. We decided to expand our search criteria to include Waterloo and surrounding areas; we stumbled upon C&S. After discussing our past experience, they were immediately more professional, friendly, and even offered approximately $3k more for our trade in than the previous location. Drove 50 miles to check out a vehicle they had advertised on Facebook Marketplace as a manual. Their layout of vehicles is a complete mess, but luckily found the vehicle easily. The car they were advertising as a manual was actually an automatic. A salesmen came to talk to me, but didnt have any other manuals in their possession to show us. Would give higher rating if the advertisement was not an error and if they had more options.
I would recommend going elsewhere, this company isnt looking to make any deals. We offered asking price out the door for a vehicle on the lot with $3k cash down and rest financed with pre approval already in place....their counter offer? $100 off...the only reason they got 1 star is they were friendly when we arrived. Nice thing is that just like losing a girlfriend there are plenty of other fish in the sea and another dealership will value our business.

If I could give zero I would, dealt with Travis and off that bat that was unpleasant. You can tell hes only in it for commission. I was sold a 2005 Toyota Corolla, and it looked nice at first, ran well, low miles, for 2,500. Little did I know the car would shut off and not even click turning over 2 days later. Told him I had 2 kids to worry about and he sold me this. So no I do not recommend c&s unless you have too much money to worry about buying garbage.
Zero Credibility! Negligent and EgotisticalI took my Hyundai Sonata to them to check out a check engine light and BlueLink. At first theyre very nice. They even gave me a nice, new, loaner car while they worked on mine. But everything changed when I got my car back.The second I drove it off the lot I heard an awful noise and I quickly turned around and went back asking them how the inspection listed on the detail sheet could miss something so loud and obvious. Mr. Sam said he was unaware of anything. He said to keep an eye on it. Later in the day I took it to another service center to be looked at because it seemed really concerning and once they finished with it, they brought out a cleanly broken strut from the front-left-side of my vehicle!The new service center staff were absolutely horrified and amazed how something so severe and dangerous could have been missed during an inspection and more so even be allowed to be driven. One wrong bump in the road and who knows what could have happened to me and my passengers? This type of mistake is not acceptable whatsoever. It may even be classified as negligent in a court of law, as to be determined by legal counsel.I called them back immediately once I knew this and gave Sam the earful he needed to hear from putting me in a dangerous situation. I am not saying they broke my strut repairing my car. However, something happened to my vehicle while it was under their supervision that should have been taken of through the inspection listed on the report of the work performed and Sam refused to put his pride aside and take any responsibility for their mistakes. He said, Im not going to do anything about it.At this point I never want to step foot in their dealership again. I would highly recommend for everyone to go elsewhere for their car needs. Their behaviour hinges on illegal and dangerous. At least one of those terms describes my experience perfectly.

3-20-2021 we went and test drove a vehicle. While we were on the test drive the salesman took our car on a test drive. The car had no problems and had been driven at another dealership an hour before. When we got back we were told that her transmission was going out and it didn’t run correctly.The vehicle was fine when we left and major issues when we got back.Go somewhere else!! These guys are crooks.
Ran my credit more than I authorized. Said 2 banks only . Dealer said many times as well . However Reams credit through many companies without permission. Unethical and disrespectful. Never going back to such an unethical company again
Scott and Brooklyn worked me a great deal on a new Subaru. Easy going. I drove the 400 miles to pick up. Deal was as described. My only wish is that they wouldnt screw the front license plate on to the bumper. If you are in the market for a new Subaru I highly recommend that you give them an opportunity to assist you.
Drove from Missouri to purchase Auto. Car dr barely made it home. The car had a Broken fly wheel, frozen back brakes. The mechanic said he was surprised the car didnt catch on fire. They said they were sorry, so buyers beware. Reporting to Iowa Better Business Bureau, Iowa State new and used car dealerships department, and local attorney.
Dealing with Scott and C and S was a breeze. I knew the car I wanted (Genesis G90) and was able to buy it totally online without a hitch and they even delivered it to my doorstep nearly 300 miles away!

Overall a very pleasant experience but I had my mind made up before I got there. Bought used but remember to check the little things as when I got home discovered I needed all 3 wiper blades. The driver side one was shot and had to spend nearly 50 bucks to replace them. Reason for 4 stars otherwise would be a 5.

Sadly, while I had a good experience getting a used Prius from C&S the vehicle had a check engine light two days after purchase with a P0401 code (letting it sit for a day before driving). Still currently trying to figure out what’s tripping it costing me time and money. I was under stress due an accident of no fault of my own, but tried to be careful due to my situation. Be wary of how they inspect vehicles, I’m suspicious and feel extremely disheartened and defeated.
Purchased my car back in 2012 and have regularly got oil changes here. Guys up front are always friendly and honest with issues that come up. Getting a full check up at 85,000 miles and told that no issues or extra maintenance needed is a pretty good feeling.
I bought a 2006 Subaru tribeca 5700, in few days the AC stopped working, in 3month the drive shaft broke down I have never spent this much on a used car and lost my money just in 3month the car is not drivable now, am praying my God to take care of

Did my research on what new car i wanted, then sent information to a bunch of dealers in a 200 mile radius. Was honest and up front. This is what i am looking for and this is my trade in. Give me your best shot. Scott was prompt in replying, answered all my questions. We were close on price but not quite there. So we drove to meet in person. Got there at 12:45 pm and by 5 had the financing done and driving away with my dream car. Thanks Scott for being upfront with pricing from the beginning and making this a great experience. Sold a lifetime warranty when purchasing the car they hid the 4000 cost of the warranty when I bought it. Then had a heater problem with my car when I took it in they told me it was going to cost 125 per hour to diagnose and couldnt tell me whether the repair would be covered or not and I would be better off fixing myself. Also the warranty is only good for 50 k miles not the lifetime of the vehicle.. Will never go back.
My daughter was searching for a car and came across a Jeep Cherokee she liked on the C&S website. We live an hour away and had a hard time getting to C&S. Travis worked it out so we could take the car to her. She test drove it, loved it and we bought it. The entire process was quick and easy.
I contacted their internet sales department and was put in touch with Scott Thurn. He emailed me a quote for a 2020 Subaru Outback Touring XT. I was surprised by the quoted price and drove down the next afternoon. Unfortunately, the car that was quoted sold before I could get there, but Scott was able to pull another Outback from their inventory when I arrived. I was treated very well and after a short test drive, decided to purchase the car. The price was already the lowest I had come across from other dealers, but when I asked what the lowest price was, he was able to take more off without having to get authorization from someone else. I really appreciated this as I don’t like the game most dealerships play. Well done Scott Thurn and C and S Subaru!!
Our experience with C&S was fantastic. I was having a sadly typical experience with a local Subaru dealer, where the price was inflexible, options were unavailable, the car wouldnt be available for weeks, etc. So I did an internet search to see what else I could find. Low and behold, I was immediately contacted by someone at C&S, and they were great! Everything about the experience was great. When one person wasnt available, they transparently shifted me to someone else on the team. The options were available, the vehicle was *made* available at no extra cost. The price was indeed negotiable. Go figure.When I indicated that the drive would be a bit of a stretch for my family they said no problem, well come pick you up! Who does that??? Then when one of our add-on parts was not available, they immediately provided a loaner and offered all kinds of options to take care of us. Im so impressed with C&S, I just wish they would package how they do business and conduct training for the other dealers in Iowa. They could prevent a lot of the bad experiences people have at other places. As has been said before, the Subaru brand is fantastic, and C&S does everything they can to keep that brand untarnished. I was fairly sure we purchased the right vehicle but driving home yesterday convinced me we made the right choice. I also want to say Scott Thurn’s depth of knowledge of the Subaru product tells me we went to the right dealership. As a customer looking for a vehicle comparing brands, models, and option packages is more complex today than ever before. Having a sales representative knowledgeably able to guide a buyer through that maze is so helpful in finding the vehicle to fit our needs.
This place took advantage of my young daughter and sold her a car for $13,000 whos KBB is no more than $5,000. On top of that her bumper just fell right off and come to find out they glued it on. I will be making a visit Monday and telling them we are not honoring the contract, take the damn car back and give her her money back. DO NOT GO TO THIS DEALER EVER. Straight scammers!

I spent several weeks searching the internet for a low mileage Ford Ranger 4x4 extra cab, and C&S Car Co. was one of the few places within a 750 mile radius from my location that had one. A phone call and a few text messages and I was on my way from the far western edge of South Dakota to Waterloo Iowa (688 miles one way) to get a hands on look at the vehicle.Prior to making the decision to travel that far, Justin went the extra mile to send close-up photos of every tiny scuff mark or door ding that he could find so that there would not be any surprises when I arrived. C & S Car Co. allowed me to inspect the vehicle while it was up on the hoist and then go over the rest of the vehicle once it was back on the ground.The vehicle was priced right, and there was absolutely no pressure to purchase the vehicle. They offered an extended service plan as well as paint protection, but again, no pressure. They just wanted to let the customer know it was available should you decide you want them.C & S Car Co, Justin & crew. definitely deserve the 5 stars. Anyone looking for a new or good used vehicle should give them a call or drop by.
Salesman was very friendly, though I would not recommend anyone buy a used car from here. Lied on price on phone to get us in. Car had a slight ticking noise on test drive, engine light came on days after purchase. C&s refused to do anything to fix it. They waived a $117 diagnostic that any code reader could find. Offered to repair for $230. Ended up being a $12 spark plug I fixed myself.
Huge selection of new & used autos, but most importantly... a great staff very knowledge of the cars their selling as well as many of the competing models, & for the most part they have the lease aggressive sales staff around. They actually let you browse before pouncing which is so refreshing. I had to drive from Des Moines to get the best deal on a vehicle I wanted.
I had to change this review from what I put a year ago. I went in the other day to see if I could trade in my car for something that I could get a lower payment on. They first made me give them all my info before they would even appraise my car for it’s trade in value, and then recommended me a car that was way over the amount I wanted to finance. The car I wanted didn’t work out so they showed me another one, and I told them multiple times that the number was just too much, and even though the payment was where I wanted it, I wasn’t in love with the car. But they still would not stop hassling me about what they could to do get me to sign for the car, and even tried saying that I told them I’d put money down when I never told any of the multiple people I talked to that i would put any money down. They kept trying to tell me that just because I said if they got the payment where I wanted them I said I would sign for the car. When I NEVER told them it as a definite yes, I told them when I walked in that I was just looking. I was there for almost 3 hours trying to tell them no. I left and told them I would look somewhere else. Then they proceeded to call me again 2 days later and tell me they got me approved for another car that wasn’t even what I was looking for, after I told them I didn’t want to buy anything from them!!They bullied me into buying my first car, I left with something I didn’t want, with a payment that was WAY OVER the budget I wanted to pay. I was clearly uncomfortable, and they were taking advantage of that to try and get me to leave there again with something I didn’t want. I’ll never come here again. The sales guy was even hacking stuff up in the trash can. Totally unprofessional and gross.

I have bought my last 2 cars here from Scott. There are 2 Subaru dealers over an hour closer to me, but I driver farther for the excellent costumer service! I always get quick responses from Scott about my car questions and concerns. If he doesnt know the answer right off he tries to find out and gets me the resources I need! By far the BEST car guy I have ever worked with. Scott goes beyond just selling you a car, he supports your needs as a car owner as well. I recommend him to everyone! I just went in today to have some things check that I had concerns about. The service department was great and had me in and out taking just an hour to check all my concerns and to detail my car. Very poor service. Went there to trade my truck for a TRUCK! Instead they asked if we wanted trade for a car or SUV. Why would they ask me that if I pull trls with my truck and I wanted to upgrade. Come on finance and other managers, quit twisting peoples words up. We will go somewhere else to do business.

While looking for a modesty cheap car for our teenager we went to a used car dealership. The car we were looking at online seemed like a great deal until we looked at it in person. The front end damage was fixed with RTV. After sighting the damage the guy on the lot said,, Oh, I didnt see no damage, sorry we dont do body work here. After the leaving the shady dealership with a 4.8 rating, we found C&S. Walking up to the building it looks respectful and definitely not a shady dealership. We were greeted by Patty and led inside. We gave her the run down on what we were looking for and our budget. After a few moments of searching she found some cars but were listed a little higher than our budget and went to talk with management about a reduction in price. We ended up with 5 cars all priced within our means and looked at each one. They were all in very good condition, ran well and were clean. Patty was very pleasant and informative with no pushy tactics. After settling on a vehicle we were on our way within 30 minutes or so. We were very satisfied with the purchase. The car we purchased ended up having less miles and from the same model year as the RTV fix car for the same price. Very happy we found Patty. She helped us out a lot.
Absolutely phenomenal team I was 500 miles from home and crashed out side of town and they went above and beyond to work with me and my insurance to get me home, honestly the best dealership Ive worked with, they worked with me to help get a lay of the land and prep for my trip home as well as take care of my car, they didnt try to sell me any BS and they helped me figure out what was wrong and needed fixed and let me go into the workshop and take great pictures for the insurance, definitely a team that if I ever end up this way Id make sure Id stop by too thank and say hi once more, thank you guys for your help -skyler w.

I let them know which vehicle I was interested in, and unlike other dealerships they did not try to upsell me or suggest something other than the exact car I wanted. Within an hour they had me set up with my new car, the financing all taken care of and on the road to enjoy my new baby. Even the financing department was great, helping me locate the best deal possible, even better interest rates than those I came in pre qualified for with my bank. I have walked out of many dealerships in the past few months because of pushy sales people but Travis was an exemplary sales associate.If you are looking for a smooth car buying experience without aggressive sales tactics and a friendly, respectful staff, this is the place to go. Travis sold us a van that started breaking down the day after we bought it. The front axle had to be replaced, the a/c stopped working (and recharging didn’t fix it), the CD player didn’t work. Their “great” six month warranty of course doesn’t cover any of it. The service department wanted to charge twice as much as other shops to fix the axle. Seems like they knew about the various problems and hid them to get it off the lot. Never going back there again. Look anywhere else besides Cheat & Steal Auto.
I highly recommend this car company! I called, told them exactly what I was looking for and what I need for my every day life, within a couples hours on and off the phone, I had my car! The only reason this is not getting a five is because I am 73 years old and I purchased this car on the Internet because of COVID 19. When my daughter and I came to pick up the car, we were the only ones wearing masks. The process took three hours instead of the one I had expected, and there were several people in the room, so I was very uncomfortable the entire time. Scott Thurn was excellent in every part of the process, from negotiation to orientation of the new technology. I shopped online with several dealers and felt that I received the best deal with C & S Car Company.
Bought my last three (oops, now four) vehicles from C&S Car Company. Always treated courteously and respectfully. Ive comparison shopped before and it seems like their deals cannot be beat, assuming you go in armed with information, which you should do for any major purchase.While they do ask you to make an immediate decision, it is not excessive at all. They are in the sales business, so everyone needs to expect to be asked what can we do so you drive out with the new car? a few times. I always wait at least one night though.....which usually results in a better deal anyway!Regardless of where you go to purchase a car, DO YOUR OWN RESEARCH ahead of time! Car companies, like all other companies, are in the business to make as much as they can. By being knowledgeable about what you are buying, what interest rates are, and what your payments should be for given price points, you are armed with information to get a MUCH better overall deal.Ive had vehicles serviced at C&S as well as problems fixed under manufacturer and extended warranty policies. Often times, theyll waive the delectable (for extended warranty work) and do a good job!Since I just bought a new car from them today, I wont be in the market for another new car for awhile, but when I am, I will certainly go back to C&S!
Scott was great to work with. Treated us fairly and honestly. Saved us a 3hr trip to get the same car and got us the same deal we were willing to travel for. Would look at getting your next car at C&S

The car I purchased was thoroughly inspected, items fixed that needed fixed, and was new car clean.The sales staff was the very best. Easy going and very knowledgeable about the car. Found a used car online that peaked my interest, though it would be a 1.5hr drive one way to look at it. Called and Travis hooked me up with a face time video call so he could give me a virtual tour of the car. He was great! Wife and I drove up and after a couple test drives we got one picked out and got the paperwork squared away. Great shopping experience. Wouldnt hesitate to use them again.

I wish there were more stars. On a scale of 1-5 they are a ten. I currently own both a Forester and an Accent. These are the 3rd and 4th Subarus I have owned and I have purchased them all for C&S Auto. C&S makes buying and maintaining a Subaru comfortable and fun. The buying process is easy and any service is done quick and reliable. I actually enjoy going back for service and seeing my salesperson Scott. Why would anyone go anywhere else. I wasn’t in a rush to buy a car so spent several months researching cars and searching the internet for a used 2014 or newer car. I was leaning toward a Subaru Outback but had never driven or ridden in one. C&S Car Company had some of the best prices for what I was looking for, but was located over 100 miles away. I finally took the plunge and reached out to C&S. From initial contact through the close of the deal, it was EASY and PLEASANT.They emailed me the cars they had that met my criteria and I schedule my test drives via email. When I got there, Jordan took the time to go over the car, features, buttons, etc. all while I had 3 kids along. I spent more time there than I planned for and had to head back home. Of course they wanted me to commit to a purchase before I left, but they understood my reasons for wanting to wait, so they valued my trade-in and I left with a price for the Outback.Justin worked with me to give me what I thought was a very fair deal and even got me a lower interest rate than another lender. We did this all via phone. Mike in finance was not pushy about the extended service contract or paint protection plan. Justin made sure the car looked brand new on the day I picked up the car a week later.I agree with another reviewer, that C & S Car Co. deserves the 5 stars because Jordan, Justin and Mike were great to work with. I wouldn’t hesitate to make the 100 plus mile trip again when looking for another car!

Everyone was so nice and very good at explaining everything we wanted to know. The salesman, Cody Hackett, went above and beyond to get us the best possible deal. We were impressed with his knowledge of all the cars. He was very nice and took all the time we needed to make a decision. He was respectful and he didn’t try to pressure us into buying the car. He gave us time alone to discuss our decision and whatever we offered as a price was taken to the manager to get us as close as he could to what we wanted to pay. All in all buying our car was a pleasant and positive experience. We were and are satisfied with everyone’s friendliness and offers of help with anything we need and we were told we could call or stop in anytime if we have questions or concerns.The Wolf’s

Where do I begin! Wes helped my Dad purchase a Town & Country van. It was not an easy situation for my Dad, but Wes and Fred really made it so simple. They BOTH went out of their way to make the transition so seamless. My Dad is old school and really appreciated the extra effort to make sure he knew all the history on the van and that it had good service history as well.I really felt that Wes treated him as if it were HIS Dad. I am comforted in the fact that Wes, Fred and the rest of the staff will always be there for him when he needs it.Thanks so much for your professionalism mixed with heart! Traded in my 2019 ram limited for a 2020 forester...did all negotiations through an email conversation with the ISM scott thurn. he was fantastic to deal with. during my test drive i noticed the steering wheel was not aligned in the 12 oclock position and told scott of this issue. he immediately took the car back to the service dept and they were able to look at and correct the issue within the timeframe i was there prior to sealing the deal.all in all it was a hassle free car buying experience and definitely recommend them if your looking for a new mazda,subaru or hyundai...

My husband and I got a pre-approval for auto financing from our credit card company for C&S, so we thought wed check them out. They had a vehicle we wanted, and even found us a better deal on financing than our original offer, TWICE! Cameron and Jeff did an excellent job of making the car buying process less stressful, especially since we had our special needs son with us. I am very satisfied with the customer service we received from C&S. Man I never thought Id say THAT about a dealership!!!!
