I just picked up my order and the girl was really rude to me because I didn’t tip her. I do not tip for pick up orders. The only way that I will tip for a pick up order is if the pick up person went above and beyond. I tip waitresses and hairdressers etc. but I do not tip when I’m just picking up my food, especially when it’s a small order. I have been coming here for years and didn’t expect that. If other people are tipping her just to pick up their food then lucky for her. She should appreciate that people are actually tipping her just to pick up their food and not expect it from everyone.
Been wanting to try this place because of all the good reviews. We got take out. Ordered the Roti (not what I was excepting, this was more like scallion pancake without the scallions, with a coconut milk/ peanut butter dip), Chicken Kee Mao (this was cooked to perfection (if youre a fan of wide rice noodles then youll know not every place cooks this correctly), Seafood spicy Tom yum noodles soup (good flavor but not much seafood) and chicken wings. There are still a lot of stuff I want to try so will be back but wont be getting the Roti again.
Talk about taste and great service this is the place. I decided to try this place to celebrate my dads birthday since it was highly recommended and I do not regret my decision. I am a weak for anything coconut and they did not let me down. Hands down THE BEST coconut broth soup I have had, and dont get me started on their coconut homemade ice-cream, to die for. My dad was so happy with his surprise dinner but he was most happy with his salmon dish. I will highly recommend Cha Yen to anyone looking for authentic fun Thai dishes, Thank you ladies for being so accommodating to us.
My family has been going to this place for over a year. Hands down the best Thai food in Boston, especially for vegetarians. They can prepare vegan dishes. I have eaten Thai food all over the world, and theirs is one of the few places where the food is closet to original Thai food. Highly Recommend it.
You know when you get that itch for a certain food and you gotta have it that night? I feel like Cha Yen is the perfect spot to get your Thai fix. Prices are very reasonable, portions are good and the flavors are plentiful. Not pictured was the beef khao soi which IMO is def a five star dish. The chicken wings also get 5 stars as they find a way to sauce them with zero sogginess, SO GOOD. The other standard dishes we ordered like the pas thai, pork larb and tom yum soup were all serviceable but not exceptional. Would def order takeout again from Cha Yen 👍🏼
Severe food poisoning after eating here. I had a curry with duck and something in it was bad (although tasted fine). However I did feel like some salad I had a month ago wasn’t fresh either- ecoli taste to it. Fish too. Something is happening with this place.
Best pad thai in town, and their appetizers, noodles, and curry keep you coming back!
Ive been living in Boston for 15 years, Ive tried dozens of Thai food places all around town at different price points. Let me tell you, Cha Yen is by far the best. Everything and I mean everything on their menu incredibly flavorful and authentic. They are incredibly kind and quick to serve. Oh and did I mention their unbeatable prices? Do not think twice about ordering here, just do it, you wont regret it.
Great place. Everything was so fresh.
As close as you can come to real Thai food without traveling to Bangkok. Everything is fresh, made to order and absolutely delicious.
The soup was really good everything was exceptionally fresh. Well they got to be doing something right cuz they were really busy.
The food was great...really enjoyed it!! Was something new for me. The Corn Cake was awesome 👌 😋😋
Awesome place. Awesome wall paint, amazing food with reasonable price.
Very good food, very good service. Love this place!
Good food, great drunken noodles. Wish they had asked us about spice level and tofu fried or not
One of the best Thai restaurants Ive ever tried! Such flavorful sauce in the Kee Mao and delicious and plentiful veggies. The pineapple fried rice is so tasty and nuanced. They were able to accommodate a vegan diet. Will definitely be back :)
Love their pad thai. Highly recommend.
First time customer today for simple cashew stir fry and wow! Even the brown rice is special. Fresh vegetables, delicious sauce. I plan to work my way through this menu-these people know what they are doing!
If you are in the area and enjoy Thai food, this is worth the trip. One of the best meals I’ve had in recent memory. Appetizers were great and the entrees were extremely good. Will be visiting this place again, and again...and again!
Always have a good meal from here. Food is cooked nice and hot, staff is friendly and price is very reasonable.
When this place opened I was skeptical because it was so small, now I cant get enough. Pretty sure this place is Watertowns place for thai food. When they first opened it was a small place with 2 tables. Now they have a beautiful dining area with lots of tables. Be sure to save room for dessert because they MAKE THEIR OWN ICE CREAM and its freaking delicious!!!!
Fantastic food and unique ice cream. Highly recommend the grilled beef and crab fried rice.
I came with some coworkers and I will definitely say that if youre coming at noon its worth calling ahead to make a reservation! We all agreed that we want to come back, even with the 20 min wait though. We got the roti and corn cakes to share and both were excellent. The corn cakes in particular were crisp all the way through and came with this spectacular sauce.I got the boat noodle soup and it was lovely. I think the broth was a little too salty but the flavor was rich, the noodles were great, and the portions were very generous.
Great Food That is Always Consistent. The staff are always pleasant and kind. Pineapple fried rice with beef/shrimp ( pretty amazing when you get both) is the best I have had since leaving California years ago. Looked everywhere for a good Thai place and this is definitely one of the best Boston has to offer along with their sister location Kala Thai in the Fanuiel Hall Area . I also recommend the See Ew with Shrimp, Chicken Dumplings and Thai Iced Tea
Very good thai food; fortunately not yet Americanized - highly recommend
This place is authentic. Havent had a bad plate in the three times Ive been. Coconut water is the best Ive had outside of Thailand
THE BEST THAI RESTAURANT IN THIS TOWN! THE FOOD IS AMAZING. IM A THAI FOOD FAN. THE FOOD IS AUTHENTIC AND ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUS. SERVICE AND PRICE WAS REALLY GOOD ALSO. WOULD DEFINITELY GO AGAIN NEXT TIME.
Delicious order of Pad Thai, Garlic Chicken and Veggies with brown rice, Papaya salad, and Pancakes on the appetizer menu. Will definitely be back.
Love Love Love! One of the best Thai places I have had around Boston.
The look and feel outside is cold and rainy Watertown, but inside youll experience traditional Thai hospitality and warm treatment.Ive been here several times and really enjoy their food, particularly the Larb. Today I tried their Fried Rice Ball which was a little disappointing. I was expecting a ball of fried rice, not a fried ball of rice. Without anything to complement the rice it comes across as boring. The Khao Soi Brisket provided a hearty noodle dish with a soup base I could put on almost anything. Im not sure why this is called brisket because this was fairly tough beef with a fair amount of connective tissue, unlike BBQ. I finished with a Thai Tea ice cream which was creamy with a slight bitterness.
Staff was friendly (yes, I went in because unlike a large portion of the US, I am still working), food was hot and cooked quickly. Only issue, for an acclaimed chef and his kitchen, the garlic chicken and veggies had very little flavor. It wasn’t terrible but not exciting or tongue blasting either. Maybe it was just this meal and eating here is definitely worth another try.
There is no better Thai food anywhere near Boston. Have I been to every spot? Not at all. But, I have tried every single upscale and dumpy place claiming to have authentic Thai food. None of then do, they Americanize their menus and call it close. Cha Yen is unapologetically Thai, and they do it at a level that Ive rarely experienced in the USA. Top notch in every way.Dont forget to have some of their homemade ice cream. Durian is my personal favorite.
I have only ever had great food from Cha Yen. Their Kee Mao and Pineapple Fried Rice are two of my favorite dishes.
Pineapple 🍍 curry
Great place, delicious food! Try out their curries! Loved the green and yellow so much.
One of the best Thai food in Massachusetts, Seriously ! Theyll know how to cook.. 10☆ recommended
Best Thai I’ve ever had!
We met with friends at this spot for a meeting. This spot was recommended to us by a friend. Well, we were not disappointed. The staff were very polite and we had a fantastic feeling. The meal was great. We loved this spot a lot and we shall definitely come back again. Keep it up.
Shocked this place has less than five stars. Best Thai food in Boston, and its really not even close.Do yourself a favor and get the beef kapow with a coconut water and thank me later.
My boyfriend and a friend and I got food here this past weekend. I got the cashew stir fry and LOVED it, but my friend didn’t love his chicken pad Thai. Overall I think this is a great restaurant- not sure exactly what my friend didn’t like (maybe he’s just picky).
Super high quality food and huge portion! Their services are highly customizable to your unique tastes, and they wont get your order wrong. Loved their Shrimp Donut, Roast Duck Breast and Thai Iced Tea. Will visit again for sure!
Quick, delicious, extremely friendly!! Can’t wait to go back - will become a regular for us.
Words fail me right now. This was the absolute worst food we’ve ever had in our life. Not just Thai food, but food. The Tom yum soup was basically a knorr bullion cube with an obscene amount of fish sauce with some sliced mushrooms in it, and the pad Thai, what was that??? It was disgusting. Canned “fried shallots” on top, sticky clumpy noodles, not a drop of lime taste, just disgusting. The whole house now reeks of fish sauce. Never never never again
I love their Pad Thai. The owner and staff are Very nice. They are fast and efficient with their food preparation. A Small dining area but mostly popular for take out. Enjoy, Gary
This is the only Thai food place that I have gone to. Ka Pow mild is my go to! It is so delicious! Very clean environment.
This was our absolute worst Thai food experience. I’d even say this was our worst food experience. Period. This is not Thai food and whatever it is, it’s just bad bad bad quality.
The first time we visited, we specifically asked for some dishes vegan and our hostess talked to the chef and let us know they would be able to accommodate us and use fake oyster sauce! We ordered from Cha Yen multiple times since then, always asking and confirming that they could make our selections vegan. Last week my husband called for an order and was told all their dishes are made with oyster sauce. When he told them that we have ordered vegan from them in the past, the chef talked with him and assured him that everything has oyster sauce!! We are really disappointed with this place and wonder how many times we unknowingly consumed meat/fish sauce despite being told it would be vegan!
The best Thai food Ive ever eaten (Ive never been to Thailand). Discernibly strong ingredients, coupled with authentic recipes tweaked by a chef with a smart pallet, turns ordinary Pad Thai (which I almost never order elsewhere) into something remarkably tasty and clean. The Tom Yum tastes like someone made it at home. Frankly, Ive tried virtually everything on the menu and NEVER found anything that rated worse than merely competent and found many REMARKABLY good items.
Authentic Thai food at very reasonable prices, a gem in Watertown that deserves to be discover.
The food is always well prepared and tasty, employees hands out great customer service. I liked the cleanliness and character. Will come back again.
This restaurant reminds me of the amazing restaurants during my time living in Italy and the South of France. Restaurants and Cookeries that serve the freshest and tastiest foods for a low low price that is equivalent to michelin star grade restaurants. They dont advertise and the restaurant is always full. You could go to the farms of Thailand and find the same quality of meal here on your doorstep no exaggeration. One meal here and you will remember it for the rest of your life. This is an absolute ASSET to the town. Tip them well. COVID-19 Take out and Contactless Delivery is Solid!
Best Thai Food around! My partner and I order takeout here whatever chance we get. Their thai green curry is perfectly spicy and creamy, and their service is always timely and friendly.
They offer a nice variety of fresh food. I like dining here. Employees are always helpful, prices are affordable and the place is always well organised.
This is, hands down, my favorite Thai food spot. I recommend the shrimp donuts. Bring your own beer or wine, too. It gets crowded on on the weekends, but its still worth the wait.
This is my favorite thai restaurant in the Boston area. I highly recommend the pad kee mao with beef, I usually ask for extra spicy since its usually on the milder side. The ka soy brisket is pretty awesome as well, not for the beef which isn’t of great quality, but for the intense coconut cream and the noodles. Keep in mind this is also a BYOB and they don’t charge a corkage,. Most restaurants in the area that are byob either charge for corkage or overcharge for food.
Ive been to a lot of thai places in Boston and this is definitely my top 3. highly suggest that you try their food!
My fiancee and I have been searching for the best Thai food in Watertown, and this place is definitely our new favorite! We ordered the pad thai, masaman curry, stir-fried cashew nut, and the fried curry dumplings. Everything was amazing! Highly recommend this place :)
Delicious Thai dishes, very tasty and fresh. The place is clean and the service is courteous and friendly. Good prices. Recommended.
Im from Bangkok, Thailand and I just want to say that this Thai restaurant is one of the most authentic Thai cuisine ever in Massachusetts. They are very delicious, well-cook, flavorful, and fresh. The food is awesome and the service is here are just exceptional. Staffs were friendly and they recommend all the great dishes. If you are looking for real/authentic Thai food, this place is the only place!
Friendly and accommodating staff serving up delicious dishes. Cant go wrong with any of the menu offerings! Accurate spiciness levels so dont be shy to specify personal tastes. Great choice for take-out or dine-in!
Some of the best Thai food Ive ever had. The staff is friendly and helpful. This is mostly a take-out place, but they have one table and a couple of stools.Edit: it has gone downhill in the last year or so. If you go when one of the owners is cooking, its still really good, but you never know when that is.
I call this unique restaurant once a month since I love the ambiance that is outline this place. The personel is awfuly attentive and skilfull. The service is extraordinarily fast. Also, the food you eat is highly distinguished. I ate there many times and I was never disappointed. The rate is fair. I highly recommend this place to to all.
Ordered a noodle soup and was very pleased with quality, price and service. Would highly recommend.
Fried dumplings were unbelievable, duck pad thai was also incredible. Was quickly seated and welcomed warmly.
Great food and good service. My water was always filled and our check was processed promptly. They have the most reasonably sized portions. I hate when some thai places will give you a mountain of rice or giant bowls filled with food. The prices are to match the portion size.Excellent flavors. Will definitely keep this one in mind to visit again.
Great Thai food for a quick stop-n-go in the neighborhood! Discovered this place on a whim and pleasantly surprised. Casual, affordable and easy going, great for a quick bite.
Super cute, small Thai restaurant. My friends and I all tried different noodle dishes (all delicious), and got the roti and quail eggs as appetizers to share. They also have special Thai homemade ice cream, which sounds amazing but is pretty expensive for a small portion size.
This place has excellent service and a clean interior. The food was tasty and filling, and we didnt have to wait long for it.
Love this place so much!! Food is always great and fresh, great customer service people that work there are very nice, I would highly recommend checking it out!!!
Delicious food, great service. Always happy with my menu choices!
They are the nicest people here!! Ive never eaten in the restaurant, but when you call to place a take out or, they are always so friendly! The food is delicious as always ready quick. Its one of our go to staples.
Overall good value, decent Tom yum soup, pad Thai. Quick service was great. One minor annoyance - the floor was vibrating during most of our meal (lunch), like a dishwasher or something.
Good food, nice people. Took a long time waiting for my take out (like 20+ minutes) and it was not a very big order. But that being said, Ill just call ahead next time because the food was delicious!
This is my favorite Thai place in Watertown. The quality of the food is great. The staff is always nice and the inside is bright and clean. Sometimes the wait for pickup is long and thats because everyone knows this is the place to get Thai food in Watertown. When the pickup wait is long, theyre pretty good at estimating what it will be.
The best Thai restaurant in town. We live in Waltham and would come out to Watertown for this restaurant. Usually very busy, but we get seated fairly quickly. Service is great and worth the price.
The best Thai street/home food that I have ever had.
The food, service, and price are great.
Dont take the four stars as anything bad Im stingy with stars. That said its clean friendly and the food is great. Especially liked the Galangal chicken soup. Very bright and fresh. The duck Ginger stir fry was earthy and satisfying and who doesnt want a shrimp donut ?.Cant wait to come back.
We love this place. Good food, good service, nice atmosphere.
My favorite Thai food around. They do everything pretty well. The restaurant is small so if you want to sit down, be prepared for a wait.
Some of the best Thai in Watertown. Great flavor / spice in their dishes
The food is fantastic. The best Ive had since my trip to Thailand. Portions are generous and prices reasonable.
Really liked the veggie Mee maoi (sp?). Nice hot spicey kick to it.
Only place in Boston to get khao soi. Havent had Thai food that good since I was in Thailand.
It used to be good when it was first opened, but now the quality of food dropped. Noodle dishes were bland and the pork were super dry. A place for quick bite but nothing really to enjoy.
Good, quality Thai food. Efficient service and a nice atmosphere
The food is amazing, and the prices are great. Usually get takeout since its a small place and getting a table can be hard especially on the weekends. So glad to have this gem in Watertown!
