I was an employee for Kolbe for over two years. By far it was the absolute worst experience I have ever endured. Management definitely makes it almost unbearable. They play favorites and dont care about you as an employee. They want thier numbers and thats it. I was shunned for shedding a little light into my personal life when I was going through a rough patch. Was told during my review to keep personal things to myself. The little pep meetings they do in the morning are terrible. They literally cuss you out and talk at you, not to you. Also to note, if you are hard working they will use you 110% to thier advantage. Hopping you around from department to department without any pay increase. At any other job when you are trained in a new position, you get a pay increase. Not here. The last thing I will say is the yearly bonus they hype up is bull. The first year there it was less than $300, the 2nd year there, nothing, yet they could afford to do unnecessary add ons to make the building more pretty. Trust me, it is not worth the pain and suffering!

If any more current or past customers can please share their horror stories about Kolbe Windows, it will be exceedingly appreciated. Are the windows and the people who install the windows equally as terrible? How about the warranty?

DON’T BUY KOLBE WINDOWS !!!We have aluminum clad wood casement windows from Kolbe and Kolbe! They had a 10-yr warranty and at 13 years we noticed rotting bottom sashes. We found that the bottom half of the window was only HALF finished at production. However, the fact that moisture seeped in and is deteriorating the wood is OUR fault because we didn’t inspect them - according to the rep at Kolbe!!! We did maintenance painting on the interior of the sashes over the last 4-5 years but never expected that the bottom had been left unfinished - so they “had a place to stamp in the serial number of the window”! Unbelievable! Who would manufacture windows and leave half a sash BARE wood!!!???They will do nothing to remedy the situation - even though all I asked was for them to cover the cost of having the bottom sash on the 21 windows painted. That seemed a small cost for standing behind their product. There are other problems as well - poorly fitting screens, cranks that work hard or stop before the window is totally open, latches the grind the wood framing when you lock or unlock the window. These are just not quality and they do NOT stand behind their product. We’ll be replacing them with Anderson or Pella and wish we’d bought either of those to begin with.Very dissatisfied!!!

Buy Anderson or some other windows of better quality. We ended up with Kolbe and Kolbe years ago because the lumber yard that our builder dealt with was not an Anderson dealer and we ended up with K&K.We have had 4 different windows explode as of this morning. Yes, explode. No, no, no; there were no baseballs or rocks or children involved in any of the broken windows. They just exploded. The first time it happened both the inner and out panes were destroyed. We thought that someone was trying to break into the house and thus I sat up all night with a shotgun in my lap. There were no rocks or baseballs in our dining room, not any footprints on the deck.By the second and third time, we had our glass replacement company on speed dial and got used to getting points using our credit card. Well, more points are on the way. Last night we heard a crash while we were watching TV. I went to the kitchen and saw 2 serving trays in the dish rack and assumed they had fallen over. Not so. This AM, I sat down on the toilet and noticed something sticking out of the bathroom curtain. It was a huge chunk of glass, just inches from my left eye. And, of course I had bare feet. But....thank God for the curtain which held in the glass. I guess that I should be happy it happened last night as my grandchildren will be over this weekend. Who knows what might have happened when those little guys staggered in there in the middle of the night to do business? Had they used the window sill to steady themselves in the dark, we would have probably had a medical emergency on our hands. No, we do not have a pterodactyl or any other bird in the house, that might have flown into the inside pane. Our dogs, had they tried to escape, would have choses a lower window and an easier way of egress. I cannot picture them standing on the hopper and trying to break out the top window and not having destroyed the curtain in the process. This time, we were lucky, I guess, as the outer pane is intact. Why am I lucky? It is winter and it is snowing outside and the temperature is in the teens and twenties. I am also fortunate as I have spare cardboard on hand with which I used to cover the window and hold in the remaining pieces of glass that are wedged in the window frame. It will have to suffice until spring when the weather will allow me to take it out and at a time when we know that we will be home for a few days to ensure that no one will use this as an entry opportunity as I do not intend to engage in the hurricane zone method of screwing plywood to either the inside or outside of the window frame.Did I mention that the wood on the windows never quite looks the same once it has been taken apart and put back together again?Perhaps I should go out an buy a lottery ticket as I seem to be the lucky guy. Of all my friends, relatives, and coworkers, that I have discussed this with, none have ever heard of this happening.Until I get that winning ticket and replace all 22 of our windows (not counting the garage) I will have to caution ALL guests to sleep with the blinds drawn should this happen again (when it happens again). I shudder at the thought of someone waking up to the feeling of a shard of glass penetrating their cornea. And while I am venting about the poor quality of the products, let me inform you that their service is in the same league. OK, I know that we are in the 21st century and products are not what they used to be with built in obsolescence and all. A few years back, we had one screen that had a broken corner piece, the plastic that holds the horizontal and vertical runners together. Guess what? Everyone has parts for Anderson but no one had them for K & K. I contacted the company and ordered some. The area rep ignored me and I had to go back and push, months later, and order and pay for more than I needed just in case other ones broken in the future. I did not want to go through all that hassle again. Good thing I did as more broke later on.

I just got done ordering some replacement hinges from Kolbe Windows & Doors. I was impressed with the speedy reply from their customer service. Kelly and Val were specially nice to work with, and I was able to get my order processed with no problems. I am very happy with the whole experience. I am also thrilled the company has John 3:16 posted on their website. Bold Faith is rare to find these days. Thank you for shining your light!!

Definitely never get these windows. My heart sank when I looked at a house and saw it had kolby & kolby windows in it. It was newer than my parents house that they also had bought kolby windows for and I actually meticulously stained and varnished inside and out for them when installed. So I knew what I would be in for. They hold water for days after it rains rotting out the bottom of the sash. I will be removing a gasket in hopes air flow drying them out.. The other thing I was waiting to happen with mine was the random exploding windows. My parents had an inside pane explode so we know it was nothing hitting the glass. Well with the cold winter I finally had the first exploding one here. I guess I was prepared but it seems to me a shame that a local made company cant seem to get things right and absolutely refuses to improve their product or admit any fault. Kind of ironic if they really have quality great products that the exact same thing has happened here to my kolby products. Ive had 50 year old homes with windows that didnt explode or rot out like this. Stay far far away.

I replaced all the window in my Gulf coast house this summer with Kolbe Forgent Missile D Impact windows, sliders and DH, we replaced every window. We went through hurricane Sally (120 mph winds) and Zeta (85 mph winds). As you can imagine there were debris flying everywhere, we sustained no exterior damage to the windows in either event and there was not even a speck of dust or dirt on the inside of the windows, my wife couldnt believe it.This post is a testament to the quality and efficiency of the Forgent windows, Im a believer in Kolbe window product. Kolbe did a great job engineering and developing the Forgent window which I believe to be the finest window in its class of vinyl and fiberglass competitors. Amazing product.

Our wholes house is Koble & Kolbe, we are replacing sashes # 6&7 for rotted wood and components that were stamped correctly. We have also had three section of glass that cracked/shattered. Fortunately only the outer panel cracked or shattered. the one happened last year in -20 weather. Covered the window with plastic shrink wrap and held out until better weather. I would replace them all if it would not cost us an arm and a leg to place them. Definitely would be Pella or Anderson.

For having a goal to produce the finest products, why is it that I have moved into my second home with Kolbe windows and have similar issues that I had in my past home? Mechanisms that work poorly, rotted and or cracked wood. Not impressed at all and will be budgeting to replace them all with another brand in a few years.

I’ve spent close to $100,000 on Kolbe windows in the past 4 years and I do not see buying or recommending them again. I live in Pittsburgh and each of the 4 projects that I’ve done in my house I’ve had issues with their products and more importantly their service. Each time we had a problem they had to have a ‘Rep’ come out and see what went wrong and then another person has to come and fix it. Of course that reps territory is the entire northeast so you have to wait forever. Last project, the seal between the glass and the frame had separated and I waited 8 months for them to view the problem and then come and fix it. In the meantime, water had consistently been coming into my house and damaged my wood floors. Multiples pieces had to be replaced and I was told that they don’t cover that. If they had fixed the problem in less than 8 months I wouldn’t have to have replaced any boards. I could go on about different problems and the most recent problem I had (which I’m still waiting for resolution after 2 months) but It just seems to come down to poor customer service and even worse response times. They have nice windows, and they do fix their problems, but it just isn’t worth the hassle to use them any more.

We are currently restoring an older home with a Kolbe bay window from the early 1980’s. It had a broken sash and I was able to order an EXACT replacement for it (perfect size, exterior color etc...). I was blown away that Kolbe could still make me the window and it would fit so perfectly. It even had pre-drilled holes so I knew precisely where to attach the old hardware. My daughter and I had it installed in 15 minutes. Great Job Kolbe!

If you are considering Kolbe and Kolbe windows please let me know. We built a 10,000 square-foot home and useD Kolbe and Kolbe windows. Following construction our home began to leak. Kolbe and Kolbe Would only replace the window panes; they would not re-install the windows. We didn’t find out what the actual problem was until we finally got a new contractor to come out take the windows apart and look. We found that they were installed by Kolbe and Kolbe improperly. We have a stucco home and to reinstall the windows would mean having to re-stucco our home as well. Thousands and thousands of dollars which we just don’t have. We have heavy storm impact resistant windows that roll open and closed. Our statute of limitations ran out with Kolbe and Kolbe dragging their feet with solutions and now we have a home that is still leaking and rotting and there is nothing we can do. I would never ever ever ever buy a Kolbe and Kolbe product ever again. It is going to cost hundreds of thousands of dollars for us to fix this problem and we just don’t have that money. We will probably end up in bankruptcy because of this

The wheels on the screen doors rust making it impossible to slide. Be prepared to spend some money to replace them they are not covered under the warranty. Also be ready to get blamed for the substandard parts they use. Go with Anderson a much better value and they stand behind their product unlike kolbe

First time installing from Kolbe for a customers sliding patio door. Door arrived with wrong active panel, which is a problem as now there is a open hole in customer home. Customer service said yes you were sent the wrong panel ( wasnt even close, 4 too big, and it was a passive not active) best we can do is get you one in 2 weeks! No sense of urgency or concern . Save headache and reputation and get Andersen, Pella or ANYTHING other than Kolbe .Update - my supplier was told by Kolbe rep that it would not take 2 weeks to get replacement, should see it in about 7 days - awesome . .........but I didnt . Took 2 weeks to send correct panel, 2 weeks !!If there was some hustle, some concern for not me, but the homeowner that got screwed out of what they paid for, then wed be happier. But there wasnt . Had to call and call for call for updated info. Never again . Customer isnt priority apparently.

I have these windows in my house...30 of them.. i have had them for around 15-20 years and they are rotting away. Some have separated from the side sash and you can see outside. They are also VERY drafty (it is windy outside and my hair is blowing inside from the draft). Do your research before buying these windows or do yourself a favor and just dont buy them..

These days, when cheerful news so rare it’s almost nonexistent, I thought I’d share something uplifting. The French door in our 24-year-old house needed replacement. The door contained latching hardware from top to bottom, attached inside a groove in the door edge, including handles and a dead bolt. The hardware had worn out from 24 years of heavy use and had become hard to open or close.A reputable local door company sent their installer out to take measurements and make recommendations. We were informed that the door was a non-standard size, and a replacement would involve cutting into the header and damaging the exterior stucco, which in turn would require having the north side of the house re-stuccoed. It would be very expensive. It was very discouraging. Then a general contractor friend of Jamie’s brother stopped by to give us a second opinion. He didn’t have any better options, but he did observe the letters K K engraved into one of the hinges. He said this might stand for Kolbe & Kolbe, an old time manufacturer of quality doors. He suggested we might try contacting them to see if this might be one of their doors, and if so see if they could help.My experiences with modern customer service have been mostly bad. Usually, after wading through a confusing telephone menu and figuring out which button to push, then listening to rotten music while on terminal hold, I wind up trying to communicate with someone in a 3rd world country who thinks he/she is speaking English but isn’t.Surprise, surprise! Kolbe & Kolbe has a web site complete with an email address. So I sent off an email, in truth anticipating being ignored. Within 30 minutes I got a response from a K & K customer service representative, who asked for photos of the door and a measurement of its height. Tech-challenged though I am, I was able to do that. 30 minutes after I pushed “send” I got a response saying it was, in fact, their door and I had a couple of options: (1) I could have one or both doors replaced, or (2) I could merely replace the door hardware if the rest of the door was ok. He had the hardware in stock and it could be shipped to my doorstep. I chose option #2. By the end of the day the hardware had been paid for and shipped. It arrived at my door four days later. It all went together easily and fit perfectly. The door is even better now than it was new. I was astonished. So it IS possible for a company to manufacture a quality product, back it up, hire employees who know what they’re talking about, and will actually do what they say they’ll do. How refreshing!

DEFECTIVE WINDOWS, do not buy these windows. We have the aluminum clad, wood casement crank-out windows and a lot of them are now over 10 years old and they are now rotting at the bottom. I have been told the seal on the bottom of the window is the problem. Moisture gets in the window and the wood rots from inside. Kolbe & Kolbe deny any problem at all. They are horrible to deal with.
