They dont keep appointments and dont mind having you sit for well over an hour for your appointments. Billing is created off the top of their heads and on hand written pieces of paper. My two visits included a deposit for light therapy (3 sessions) that only made my dry eye MGD worse, I was in a lot of pain after and the next day, and my dry eye symptoms were worse. Really disappointed in this light treatment.Plan on sitting and waiting for your appointment and dont plan on any other appointments that day because they run off their appointment schedule.

Dr. Schlussel is top notch as far as doctors go. Thorough, professional, really knowledgeable, and patient. He shows compassion and takes time to explain to you whats going on with your eyes and what the treatments he prescribes actually do. Even though we had a technology glitch with one of my procedures, he and his staff were gracious and did what they could to remedy the situation. I like knowing that as a patient, my doctor can have compassion for me as a person and wants to make sure he does his job right. Ive been to other doctors that dont show anywhere near that level of concern for their patients.

Very thorough eye examination. The doctor and everyone on staff are great. It was so convenient having an optician on-site too. I was able to get everything taken care of at once. Looking forward to my next visit!

A month ago my vision went blurry, my eyes felt weak and fatigued and I felt like I had a film over my eyes. I was terrified of what was happening. I went to an eye doctor who told me my eyes were bone dry and sent me on my way to figure it out. Lost, I bought every eye care drop, ointment and OTC treatment I could find. Nothing was helping. So I searched for a dry eye specialist.Dr. Schlussel treats DRY EYE. Not just the symptoms but holistically. He guides with a process that includes prevention, protection and treatment. You can tell he is passionate about what he does. He has in house diagnostic testing that showed me as a patient, EXACTLY what was happening. If I didnt get this level of information, I might go on a terribly destructive path for many years. I look forward to following his guidance and seeing improvements.PS. staff is super friendly and the Dr. sees you promptly.

Dr Schlussel is a great doctor. Went to him with extreme dry eyes and my meibmomian glands were clogged. He treated me with various drops and suggest lipiflow. That was a game changer. I went from blurred vision & burning eyes to being able to see and a great amount of relief. The doctor and his staff are excellent. I highly recommend Dr. Schlussel.

What a pleasure it was going to Dr Schlussel’s new office today in West Orange. His staff including Christine and Mary welcomed me with warm friendly smiles. Dr Schlussel is caring and very knowledgeable. The office is well equipped with state of the art technology. I was truly amazed how easily Dr Schlussel diagnosed the annoying “floater” in my left eye and put my mind at ease. I would highly recommend Dr Schlussel to anyone. I can’t imagine after today’s visit entrusting anyone else with my eyecare.

Dr. Schlussel is amazing! His staff is extremely friendly and his office up to date with all of the latest technology. It is refreshing to have a doctor that is not only knowledgeable, but who takes the time to treat his patients properly.

While waiting to be seen you can try on over 100+ different frames and they will even try to fix your old frames if needed.All around a great experience!!

Dr. Schlussel was very kind and knowledgeable. He explained things in a way that were clear and easy to understand. He took his time answering all of the questions that I had and did not make me feel like any of my questions were silly. As a person who has had fit problems with contact lenses for the past 15 years I was reluctant to give it one more try but Dr. Schlussel determined the perfect fit and prescription on the first shot! He explained why the new ones that were selected worked best for me and sent me home with trials to just be sure before we placed an order for more. The office staff was so kind as well. I was not sure if I was going to purchase my glasses there but they were not pushy at all and were totally fine with whatever I decided. They had a wide variety of designer glasses and sunglasses that were very reasonably priced so I did purchase them in the office . Everyone was extremely helpful and the office was kept very clean! I would highly recommend using Dr. Schlussels office!

Very pleased by the care I’ve received by Dr Schlussel and his staff. I’ve been suffering from dry eye that’s made daily life challenging and irritating. He treated me with various drops and the Lipiflow. The Lipiflow was a complete game changer. Within days of completing the treatment, the burning, painful irritation stopped. I still have days with dryness as the ailment is not curable but at least the quality of my life has improved greatly. I highly recommend all dry eye sufferers to see Dr Schlussel. He has dry eye himself so he knows what he’s doing plus he’s friendly and his staff is too.

Ive probably been going to Dr. Schlussel for 15 to 20 years and have been seen for contacts, glasses, and a number of eye issues. He willingly works with me to give me a treatment plan that I can reasonably do, offers improvement for my condition, and that fits into my busy schedule. He truly cares for me as a patient.

Ive been going to Dr. Schlussel for over 20 years. Besides being an excellent optometrist he also takes the time to get to know his patients. My eyes are crucial to my work and I feel very confident in his treatment and advice. He very clearly explains diagnostic procedures, diagnosis, and treatments. He is very good about making sure patients are able to understand all aspects of their eye health. And he works with patients to determine the best options. His staff is also very good. I highly recommend Dr. Schlussel to anyone looking for an optometrist.

Ive been going her for over 2 years now and every time I leave the office Im upset. I tried giving him a fair shot as I understand medical expenses can sometimes be out of the doctors control, but thats not the case here. This doctors main concern is having his patients pay him more money whether its through hidden fees, extra tests, the newest contacts lens, etc. Hes always pushing to get you to pay more in one way or another, and doesnt tell you about the fees until youre walking out the door.I recently had an eye infection and went to see him for treatment. I needed a follow up just to check that the infection was gone and he charged me for an entire new appointment without letting me know. He then tried scheduling a 2nd follow up in hopes of charging me again. When I mentioned that I had no idea I would be charged for another appointment with the 1st follow up and that I didnt want the 2nd follow up, he walked away and didnt say a word to me. He completely ignored my concern and the fact that I was unhappy about the charges he didnt tell me about. I talked with my insurance company to see if this was typical and they let me know its at the doctor’s discretion, but they dont normally see a doctor charging for a follow up as its just a continuation of the appointment you already had.Ill never go back to this office. Unfortunately, I tried giving them the benefit of the doubt after a number of upsetting encounters and in the end I was wrong. This isnt a place to go if you want a doctor concerned about you as a person, hes only concerned about your money.

Dr. Schlussel is an excellent optometrist. He is very knowledgeable and professional. The ladies in the office are excellent as well. I highly recommend Dr. Schlussels practice.

The doctor himself was nice but seemed a bit pushy when it came to buying eyewear directly from him. I hadnt even had a contact lens exam but received a bill in the mail for the service and also for a years worth of contacts. When I called to clear up the matter I was told that I had to pay the balance on the account despite never receiving the service or the product ordered. When I tried to go to another location to use my frame discount from my insurance, I was told that I already used it! I was shocked to find out that the doctor (or his employee) never rescinded the false claim that they made, now Im battling with my insurance company to recoup the discount that Im entitled to because this doctors office stole it. Although I think Dr. Schlussel is a capable optometrist the agony youre dragged through and the poor customer service you receive from his staff makes this place not even worth the trouble as there are thousands of capable doctors whose staff are friendly and competent.**UPDATE**My insurance company has been extremely cooperative, they have asked that the doctors billing agent re-file the claim as it was sent to them incorrectly initially with inflated costs and services and materials that I never received; This has yet to be done. The doctors receptionist and the doctor himself have refused to provide me with any additional assistance and have hung up on me numerous times when Ive tried to explain the situation and the issues that I am having as a consumer that only wants to be able to get a new pair of glasses.

I suffered with excessive tearing from MGD for over 2 years. I was constantly dabbing my eyes all day long. I tried Restasis, Xiidra, steroid eye drops, warm compresses, etc. etc. etc. but nothing worked. I had Lipiflow treatment on December 1, 2017. It was a bit uncomfortable on the first eye, but once it was underway, really not bad at all. I didnt notice any change for about 3 weeks. But then I noticed that the tearing was gradually getting better...to the point that my eye makeup stayed on all day! I couldnt believe that I was actually able to get through the day with no tearing at all...it really does feel like a miracle.

I actually look forward to my eye exams - how amazing is that?! For years, Ive had chronic dry eye caused by MGD, and Dr. Schlussel was the only one who diagnosed the root cause. Years of eye drops, constant tearing, mucous, itching, burning sensations. With a regimen of Retaine, PRN Omega 3, I feel 90% better. Remarkable. Todays visit involved four state of the art diagnostic tests to check my eye health, done by his staff in his new office space, before seeing the doc. He asks a wide range of questions, key is he actively listens to my answers, which spark new questions/answers. I have never felt rushed - hes never once looked at his watch, or popped in-and-out to juggle other patients.He was extremely thorough, running through several additional tests, noticing even slight changes in my vision, and adjusted my eyeglass prescription accordingly. Though with proper eye care and using Retaine has been a marked improvement on my quality of life, he introduced the possibility of Xiidra and a Lipiflow treatment. Diving into the pros and cons of each. No pressure, just the facts laid out in laymans terms. No selling going on here, only what may work - or not - for me.Modern equipment with the knowledge to go with it, combined with the old-school warm doctoring I grew up with. His staff is accommodating and friendly, explaining all charges. I booked through Zocdoc, updating my insurance information, so the check-in lasted all of five minutes (including a short questionnaire.)I recommend Dr. Schlussel without reservation. My wife and friends now go to him for their eye care.
