Came in to buy a cement drill bit to install a mailbox, because its the closest hardware store to the part of Montclair that I live in. Turns out the store has a huge variety of parts for old house. Gerald, the owner, helped me with a leather washer for a 100 year old toilet in our new house. It still had a brass fill valve. I thought I would be replacing, and he showed me how to take apart the plunger and replace the leather part. He ended up giving me the part for free. Feel lucky to have a place like this so close to home.

After wasting most of my Saturday at multiple Home Depot’s and Lowe’s looking for a 5 lb. mattock pick to dig up some stuff in my yard, an employee around the corner at the Orange Garden Center recommended Schneider Hardware because, “the gentleman who works there has and can find anything.” I went and was greeted and sure enough, he had the exact tool I was looking for! It is so refreshing to use a local hardware store and he also happens to sharpen “anything with a blade.” He is super professional and courteous. He went above and beyond because even though the store was supposed to close at 5:30pm, it was 5:40pm when I paid for my tools. That customer service is so hard to find. I am relieved to have found a reliable hardware store again and I highly recommend it if you live near this location - particularly for Glen Ridge and Montclair. Don’t waste your time at the Bloomfield Home Depot, which used to be my first stop. Schneider Hardware seemed to have everything and I can’t wait to go back during regular business hours!

Been here twice so far, Im a new homeowner and the guy behind the counter has been really helpful, very knowledgeable and willing to help. Prices are comparable to the big box stores, maybe a couple dollars more on average but nobody at home depot would have taken the time to tech me how to use an auger as well as draw a very helpful diagram of a tub drain. Or explain the difference between rock salt and mag chloride. Current covid set up is no browsing, just a front counter and the staff goes and gets what you ask for. I think this will be my first stop next time I need anything hardware related!

Its nice to see local hardware stores, a rarity where I come from. So far, this we kept store has had everything Ive needed for a reasonable price, with very friendly people working there. Id much sooner spend my money here than Home Depot or other big brand hardware stores.

We have tried our best to support all local businesses in the area but its become undoubtedly evident that owners of this establishment have a bias against people of color. We have tried our best to not draw this conclusion; however each and every time we have attempted to make a purchase or ask questions, we are treated like we just dont belong there.

I think every single time I came in with a fairly ignorant question on how to do home improvement, I got schooled here properly. Not in a condescending way, but that This Old house kinda way. The Schneider brothers, should be considered a Living treasure by West orange. Ive avoided hundreds of dollars in outsourced repairs and remedies thanks to their knowledge and professionalism. Patronize the store please, to help them keep them our our homes healthy!

Being the son and grandson of carpenters, I grew up around traditional old world European hardware stores, so much so that their smells of metal and wood are ingrained as a sweet childhood memory. Home centers dont have that. not even close. The first time I entered Schneider Hardware, that happy memory of my childhood came rushing in, and I felt that if I closed my eyes I could hear my grandfathers voice talking shop. This hardware store is amazing. Its like a time machine. Roger and Gerald, the owners, were welcoming and knowledgeable. And above all, extremely helpful. After the first visit, I know I would be a customer for life.

Awesome time talking track and field with the owners we always share stories about track..... Livingston High keeps good pole vaulters and when he pole vaulted they did not have mats...lol....his son Brian was a great runner a few years back for Livingston but more importantly they have anything you need.

Best experience I have ever had at a hardware store!!! Came in with one random bolt from replacing my garage door springs... Before I could even say anything, Gerald took one look at it and knew exactly what it was… even helped me machine it a bit so the springs would fit. These guys know what they are talking about!!!Friendly, knowledgeable, extremely helpful… Gerald, you sincerely saved my day, and turned a PITA into a quick and easy fix!!! I will highly recommend to all my neighbors and friends... and will certainly be back for any other hardware needs, in the future.

Still some great mom and pop hardware stores out there and this is my favorite.Id rather go to this place then home Depot. It doesnt take a half hour before someone helps you

They have pretty much everything, im a handyman and if im working in the area i know i can count in these guys to have random stuff and actually talk to a person immediately to get it. Guys are very knowledgeable and the sharpen everything!

This store has great cabinet hardware that I didnt find in about 5 other stores. An older style match my older home. I was given immediate help to find it too.

There is no other Hardware Store like Schneiders. While being a full service Store for any hardware or maintenance item, it is a Museum. Everywhere in the store are the items your Grandfather needed. All new-in-box. Today i saw a porcelin over the bathroom sink light fixture with electrical plug, just like the one in Gmas house. There are brand new Wearever pots & pans, toasters, coffee pots. If your looking for any type of vintage hardware and accys, before you waste your money at Restoration Hardware, stop at Schneider.
