Wow… very pleasant surprise! Not sure which we were impressed with more, the food or the customer service. My husband and I stopped in just for drinks, but decided to have a small bite and shared “the barnyard” plate. We were pleasantly full off of the brisket, ribs, pulled pork, with coleslaw and mash potatoes. Should have taken a before and after picture… sorry, we dug in to fast. 🤓 Not sure if she was the manager, but a young lady toured around asking folks about their meal. The questions were friendly and genuinely real, very refreshing. Highly recommend.
The hubcap burger was really good! Fried cheese is always a win! The pulled pork and tri tip were also good but I thought the burger was better. I wasnt the biggest fan of the BBQ sauces but they were okay - I like a more vinegar based BBQ sauce and these were more tomato based but I didnt dock any points for that. Overall it was a good meal and will likely come back for another burger!
The food is amazing!! I would recommend this place to anyone. Only reason Im not giving it 5 starts is because the staff although super friendly seen more interested in talking and joking in the kitchen. They did bring the food out super quick and it was slow so Ill give them that. Its a very nice environment. Definitely gonna eat here again.
Would have given it 4 or 5 stars but my girlfriends dish fell short. I had the tri-tip with mashed potatoes and baked beans. Loved them all. Didnt even use the barbecue sauce because the meat was tender and flavorful enough blended with the sides. The potatoes tasted homemade with a bit of green onion (nice move!) And hidden in the beans were luscious tender chunks of pork. She got the brisket with sides of cole slaw and roasted corn. As someone else mentioned, the brisket was a little overdone and tougher than you would expect. The slaw was average and the corn, although flavorful, finished dry. Lastly, the corn muffin I doused in butter added a satisfying sweet balance to it all. Well go back and try it again but probably pass on the brisket.
Great food, great atmosphere, great people. You can really taste the difference in how much they care about every dish.The portions were definitely large enough for the wife and I to split the two meat dish which is perfect for our future date nights or more than likely afternoons, because we aren’t people people. 🙂By far the best bbq we’ve had on the west. Thank you for the amazing food.

Also we met the owners, Very kind and sweet folks. I had the pull pork nachos with homemade chips and side of Mac and cheese the flavor was 10/10 ! My friend had the shed, the meat was so tender juice and with good flavor. Izzy also came back to check if we needed anything. We had the bread pudding. Best desert ever. I would definitely come back. And recommend this restaurant to anyone. Very nice atmosphere. Barn theme decorated 🐷!!! Love it. I’m very Satisfied! Yum BBQ!!!!!!!!!

The customer service was wonderful, and the food was decent. The sausage was not our favorite, but the sauces, beer selection, and the dessert were good. The ambiance was also pleasant and interesting. Overall I would eat here again.
The customer service here is amazing! The staff is so friendly, and they take the time to come out and introduce you to the menu, chat with you, and make sure you’re loving the food. You can tell they have a great work culture from the top down! Food comes out quickly and was so tasty - meat was perfectly cooked, tender and 👌🏼. Perfect portions too.
Just got Door Dash from this beloved eatery. Taste is off the charts. A small mix up happened. Not sure we weren’t the author of the confusion. WPF made it right with replacements, re-delivery and over the top comps. What a heart! Eat here or you’re missing out! ❤️❤️❤️

Main dishes were fantastic but the sides left something to be desired. BBQ beans and mashed potatoes were very good, Mac and cheese was below average and the mac salad was not good. Will definitely be back, overall one of the best bbq places in north county.
Not impressed with this place. The visual appearance is very cute. The pulled pork and onion rings were good. The brisket was fatty and chewy. I had two bites and gave my dogs the rest. The mac&cheese was mushy with no flavor. The macaroni salad was sour. I wont be back. I will try The Flying Pig next.
Stopped in for the first time on a Friday night and did not regret my visit! I ordered the shack combo where you choose 1 meat and 2 sides- tender pork ribs, gooey Mac n cheese, corn muffin and smoked corn for me! Ordered a cold beer that came in a mason jar. To top off this mouthwatering meal, we were recommended to try the bread pudding and even added the scoop of ice cream~ It was slap your grandma silly kinda good! I’ll be back for more
Definitely one do the better bbq joints in north county! Beats That Boy Kim. I heard their original location in the gas station is even better. This location is in Vista and it’s big. Dog friendly. Order at the counter. We both ordered two combos- with everything. Brisket, pulled pork, pork ribs, tri tip, chicken wings. Came with Mac and cheese, corn, potato salad, and slaw. I’m glad we went. I liked their brisket because it’s whole slices and not chopped. I didn’t like their sauces, needed to be more spicy then sweet. Will definitely be back though.
The food was good and plentiful but the server was outstanding! He was friendly, welcoming, and a pretty funny guy. Would go back just because of him! A great afternoon!
Brought take out home for my boyfriend. He liked it but I was surprised that they were out of some basic items like the 1/4 chicken and garlic mashed. It was early in the evening, so I dont know why. As of the date of this review, the second location at the gas station is closed.
Loved it. I had the three meat plate with brisket, pulled chicken and pulled pork. My wife had the ribs. Everything was wonderful. Pigs Fly has a great atmosphere. Reminds me of home. Well be back!
First time going to this restaurant. I ordered a 3 meat plate to share with my wife so we could try multiple flavors and try one of the desserts on the menu later. The customer service was good and they were helpful offering suggestions and answering any questions we had.The pulled chicken was good.The pulled pork was so dry that even covering it with sauce couldnt save the dried out fibers of the serving. It seemed like it had been sitting out uncovered for way too long.On a brisket, the layer of fat between the point & the flat is called the deckle. You should try this section out when you carve it. You should serve the flat or the point. I should not receive slices of fat with .25 of meat for my $2 upcharge for this serving. We didnt finish our meal or go back for dessert.

We went for an early dinner (5:30PM) before our show at the Moonlight Amphitheater. It was not busy yet, so we had plenty of tables to choose from.ambience: Loved the inside decoration with some old appliance and flying pigs! The metal tables, wooden frame, and pile of ingredients stocked gave a rustic accent and a farmhouse barnyard feel. It signified this is the right place for BBQ!service: Excellent! We were a 5+ group and didnt arrive at the same time. Being first timers, the waitress was so patient with our orders.Food: The meats were juicy and tender! Delicious! Tasty appetizer and sides! The best onion ring I ever ate! I ate the last piece of onion ring at the end of our meal. It still had crisp batter and onion. The garlic mashed potato was equally on point but not over powered with garlic. Mac n cheese was cheesy with a thicker cheese crust on top, just the way the kids and I like it!If we go back to Vista, we will definitely visit the place again. We need a location in the Sorrento Valley area :-)!
This place use to be so awesome but we just placed an order last week and the brisket was so chewy like if it had the silver skin left on it.. I had to take half of the meat out of the brisket sandwich because it had this fat you could not chew through.. so bummed because we use to love this place.. will not be returning or recommending this place

Been staying in Vista during my vacation and always try to shop local and get food from places I cant get from home. I had lunch here and their food here was amazing. The staff is great and the large sides are really LARGE. Its worth any penny you can spend here and is the best BBQ in SoCal.
Ive had Texas, Tennessee and my own BBQ; THIS IS among the BEST Ive had. And VERY pleasant staff is a huge plus
Absolutely loved their food and catering service. They were at a wedding for us recently. Mindy did an absolutely amazing job, a wealth of knowledge of their incredible food. Cant wait to visit the area again and explore more of their menu!

I very much like the barbeque, I always get a 3 meat combination plate. Im not sure what its called . But I like it very much. the staff is so nice and the food is delicious. I recommend this location to anyone who wants to try some authentic barbeque.
This is my personal opinion. This BBQ place is the best I have ever personally been to. I have been there 4 separate times and each time they have massively exceeded my expectations on every metric I use to determine good restaurants. The meal itself is always phenomenal. This is the most underrated restaurant in the Vista downtown area. I LOVE eating there.
Everyone who lives in Vista knows, at least, that When Pigs Fly is that place that sells BBQ out of a gas station (original take out joint, still in business, at Vista Way and Foothill). Admittedly, it took me a little while to get over that fact before I ordered for the first time. What a mistake! Now that theyre in downtown with a sit down space, I no longer have to be tortured by the drive home smelling the yummy meats. Here, the food only takes a minute and is very reasonably priced. Delicious, fast, and cool new space to enjoy your meal. Great addition to downtowns scene. Get some!
Service was great. Nice and friendly staff. Love that theres a window to see the chef making sausages and cutting the ribs and seasoning it. Brisket was nice and tender, mac n cheese was awesome, baked beans tasty, and Peach cobbler was so damn good!!
Just down right great BBQ with sides and sauces to match. Definitely will be back often.
Great BBQ pit atmosphere, groovy sauces, and friendly staff make for a fantastic casual dining experience.Good cuts of meat & mediocre spices are really lifted by creative house BBQ sauce; in particular The Sassy One.Would love to come back and try some other cuts, especially some of those unique desserts or apps. Tri-tip & roast chicken recommended.
We were there in the middle of the afternoon, not really lunch or dinner hour, so maybe that had something to do with it, but it has a sort of defeated feel to it, as though it has given up. Food was quite good.
Oh my goodness.... This place is outstanding! Were here from slightly out of town, and When Pigs Fly was reasonably close, offered take out, and had great reviews. Every bite was perfectly delicious...big, meaty beef ribs for hubby and BBQ chicken (leg & thigh) for me - both were moist and flavorful. The garlic mashed potatoes were fantastic, as was the corn. Generous with the BBQ sauce (on the side) and they gave us several varieties. Sorry, we ate it all before snapping a photo - but we do have peach cobbler and vanilla bean ice cream waiting for us! Well definitely be back! Try it - you wont be disappointed!
The tri tip is to die for. So, so good! Had it on a sandwich. The shrimp po boy is tasty. The spicy sauce on the sandwich gave it a nice, rich kick. We each had the Mac and cheese, and the potato salad-- both were delicious!!! Good customer service, from the dude that took our order, to the food runner. The food runner was detailed with the sauces she brought out, which we appreciated!
The food was comparable to what you would get from a food truck in terms of quality, taste and presentation. Thats not a knock against the restaurant, just the best way I can describe it. Some food trucks are amazing after all. I ordered the shed meal which came with two meats, two sides and a cornbread cupcake for $14 dollars. My quarter chicken was slightly disappointing in that it seemed more the size of a quarter cornish game hen but everything else was good. If anything, go here for the smoked mac and cheese. I wouldnt mind having more of that.

Not at all what I expected from a bbq place. I got the shrimp po boy with fries but I would not order it again. The po boy had bbq on it even tho it was a shrimp one and it was on a soft soggy hamburger bun with no remolade sauce instead it was a sweet coleslaw that made the bun even more soggy. The shrimp were little tiny shrimp too. Then the fries would have been good but they didnt cut out the bad spots on the potatos so over half of them had bad black spots on them but they did have a great fry seasoning.
We ordered take out once and it was good. We got pulled pork and brisket. So yummy!
All BBQ was excellent ... 3 sauces on the table for your individual desires .... cheese burger was epic ... cheese crispy melted in 3 circle around burger ( needs picture)... will go again
I was really happy when I heard the had hot bbq sauce. Turned out to be pretty mild. Thats really my only issue not giving the place 5 stars. No complaints about the food though. Can out pretty quick and tasted really good.
Not even the rain could keep this place down. The meat was fresh and hot and the service was quick and friendly. My order of garlic mashed potatoes really hit the spot on this cool day.
Good BBQ but hit-and-miss service. The BBQ items are very good but the ribeye isn’t worth the price. We’ve dined in several times and have been generally pleased. However, don’t trust the takeout orders to be correct. The one time we did, several items were forgotten, including the BBQ sauce. As we live 20-25 minutes away, it wasn’t worth the drive back to correct things. For the prices asked, it’s not unreasonable to expect the order to be 100% correct. We’ll probably return eventually but not for a while.

I heard about this place and couldnt believe it was a close drive and bbq which I love! The meat was perfectly cooked I had both tri tip and ribs! The sauces were great I like my spicy and it was just right! The side of macaroni was also good. The only complaint I have is the bread needs to be better to go with this great meat!

Ordered online for pickup they gives you a pickup time and I showed up 10 minutes after just in case it was ready. Was told itd be an extra 15 minutes, was told they dont want my food cold so they wait the person to show up which is dumb and probably a lie. The food is average BBQ nothing special. They need to work on customer service.

Its labeled as BBQ, but it is not very tasty. Its kinda bland, and doesnt have alot of flavor or distinct smokey BBQ flavor. On top of that they really skimp on the portions, and for that price. Its highway robbery. This was my first time trying this place, and unfortunately it will be my last. I will not be recommending this place. It appears we will be sticking to Phils BBQ where the portions are more than suitable and the flavor consistently jumps out at you. The only bright spot werw the people were very polite.

Literally our favorite BBQ spot in Southern California. The food is and service are both 100% spot on every single time we go. An absolute treat. I cant remember her name, but the brunette assistant manager is amazing!! Always stopping by to say hi and make sure our food is perfect. We are from the south, so you can imagine how picky we are about our soul food and BBQ, but this place really is so good.

Memphis style BBQ and it was really good! The ribs (pork) were fantastic. Great service too, which I didnt really expect since the place kind of looks like it is self service. The cobblers, both peach and berry were awesome, especially with the specialty ice cream. Really yummy!
My wife and I, have given you, 3 chances, none of our experiences were good. Too much salt on everything, mac and cheese is mushy, cole slaw needs help. Consistently poor quality food, sauce was good. Need cooks that care about quality.
Great food, the sausage is amazing. The owners are super nice people. I did a taste testing on them Tuesday for a catered lunch for Friday and not only were they able to make it happen, but the day of I found out about needing to add vegan options. Luckily they have impossible burgers and were super accommodating to add them on to the order for us. I HIGHLY recommend this resturant to eat in or catering! Thank you Brandon and Mindy!
