Had a great selection of original pressings and reissues. Owner is very laid back and not pretentious at all about his life experience and tips; has stories for days! Special orders can be done here too if youre set on classic boxed sets and contemporary releases. Selection can be limited due to store size and customer taste.
I could spend hours here. This is by far my favorite record store. The owner knows everything about music and he’s always a great conversation. So glad I found this hidden gem
Love this store! Traded in some old records of my moms and left with a bunch of great finds of our own! The owner was so sweet and knowledgable, we could have stayed and talked with him all day. Will definitely be back. Such a gem.
Reasonably priced records for the area, and first edition finds! I recommend going here if you have time. The staff is very friendly and knowledgeable.
Owner so knowledgeable and a pleasure to talk to. Looking for an oldie, look here. Fun place to browse.
Jim is awesome and smart. Our office collection grows weekly.
Made the trip from WI today and was not disappointed! Fantastic selection of new and used records in a wide variety of genres, and the prices seemed fair. Looks like there was a great bargain bin section as well, although I didnt really check that out. The owner is an encyclopedia of knowledge about the classic rock records, especially the most popular ones (Beatles, Stones, Who, Floyd, etc.) - and also happens to be a super nice guy! Highly recommended.
Had fun shopping for my husband and what great finds on record day
Good selection, owner very knowledgeable and a very nice guy.
Its a fantastic record store. The owner really knows his music and is a really nice guy. Amazing customer service. Also, if you live in the suburbs of Wilmette and around that area. You are good for record hunting!!
Great prices, such a fun place to go hang out and find new music. Owner is a real charm to talk to!
Really great selection. Super knowledgeable staff.
Fantastic place. Jim has an encyclopedic knowledge of rock music. If it is from the 60s or 70s he will know it. And if he doesnt have it he can get it for you. I could spend days browsing and letting him chat about music.
Best record store in this area. Jim knows his music. Could sit and talk for hours. Love this place 🤘🤘🤘
Hip Cat is a 1970s record store time capsule. From the posters on the wall depicting concerts that happened decades ago, to the sleepy feel, its amazing. The record bins are hand lettered and draw you near. Records, CDs, even VHS tapes. This place doesnt have everything, but you will definitely find something.
Bought a Donovan record a long while back and Jim was a wealth of information and a pleasure to talk to. Will be back when I visit Illinois again!
Great place for old records and albums. Owner has an encyclopedic knowledge of the subject, and prices seem fair. Owner takes as much time as necessary to explain details so you feel comfortable with your purchase.
Great selection of rock vinyl. Super helpful mate there helped me pick out a great gift and made great suggestions. They also have some cool posters and t shirts.
Nice selection of vinyl. Tho the grading of the used records could use some work. I had 2 albums that were VG+. The cover on one was badly damaged.
Excellent shop great selection always getting good stuff new rare prints etc. Recommend it thoroughly
Tiny little space. Most of the inventory is new editions of LPs. Also has a lot of CDs. There are quite a few $1.00 or less bargains but not much of a variety. The sales guy is very friendly and very knowledgeable but if you want something specific hed have to special order it for you.
Coolest smallest record store Ive been too. Theyve got a great collection of rare concerts on VHS.
Awesome guy, very friendly and willing to help. Knows so much more about music and albums than I could ever imagine!
They have a great selection and the guy there is awesome! Highly recommend.
Good selection of records with attentive, friendly and knowledgeable service! Highly recommended.
A wide variety of records and the guy was knew what he was talking about. free pile is mostly classical music, and in very good condition.extremely sastified, will go back
Amazing selection and prices. Love this place.
I enjoyed the wide selection & came away with a few albums Ive been searching for: Zappas Apostrophe & Bowies Ziggy Stardust.
Can usually find newer bands and it has a 50 cent bin that Ive found some incredible finds in
Small record store with lots of good stuff. Mostly rock and they also participate in record store day.
Nice little ma n pa record store. He seems to specialize in classic rock, and he knows the things that add or detract value right off the top of his head. These go in his collectibles section. For example, I got a 1st edition Simon & Garfunkel Sounds of Silence LP for $16, because the record, jacket, and label were right. On the other hand, I got a copy of Parsley, Sage, Rosemary & Thyme for $1, because the jacket was messed up, the previous owner wrote his name all over it, and it wasnt a 1st edition. If youre into something that isnt classic rock, you can probably get a screamin deal. I bought several LPs of classic music with top performers and in good shape for $1 ea. Got a few free classical LPs from lesser known performers. The other LPs are considered value records, and are generally quite reasonable. He also has CDs, a few cassettes, 45 RPM singles, and even a stack of old 78s.
Excellent selection, Jim knows everything about vinyl.
Good place for music lovers.
Ive stopped at this store twice now and it has been closed both times when Google indicates it is open until 6 PM. Pretty frustrating, adjust your hours if your not going to be here please.
Very chill dude
Nice selection
