The owner sweet talked me into trusting him, $250 diagnosis later there was no guarantee fix and a $1500 quote. Went home and looked up how to adjust the valve myself and did the job in less then 10 minutes. If they are as professional as they claim they clearly knew the problem and were attempting to scam me (more then the $250 diagnosis already did). Do not recommend, the worst mechanic is one you cant trust.

Do not recommend J & D Cycles. Was vastly overcharged for repair & problem not corrected. Told me it was another issue in the engine and did not call and inform me of the issue and ask if I wanted it repaired. He did not want to do it and did not have the intergrity to do so.Later after an accident was put off by the owner after he said he would do repairs paid for by insurance. If he did not want to do this, I would have appreciated if he would have had the balls to come out and say it. This is dishonesty. Two times the owner deceived me.

I am on a motorcycle trip, my bike broke down and had it towed to Albuquerque. In the process of trying to find parts I was told to call J&D Cycle. They recommended me to bring my bike in, as I was going to fix it myself. Good thing cause the wiring harness was totally shorted out. They got me in fixed the problem for a very reasonable price.I highly recommend this establishment for any biker needing repairs as they travel route 66.

This has been the best experience I have ever had with any motorcycle shop in town. Doug had given me a quote to fix my bike, when I picked up my bike we went into his office and he told me it did not take as long as he thought and the cost was not the price that he had quoted but $50.00 less. I have never in my years of riding had a shop tell me that my bill was going to be less then I was quoted, I am a customer as long as they are in business. Thank you Doug for your honesty

We wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone. We are very patient people and all we ask for is communication. J &D cycle had the worst communication we had to go to the shop to find out what was going on with our bike (we called multiple times.) Initially when we took our bike in we were told our bike was put together poorly and then they told us other stuff had to be replaced (which was fine we paid the guy to do the work). They also told us once the parts come in they would have it complete in a day. It’s been over a week and a half with no update on what was going on (we didn’t mind that they needed more time, but they wouldn’t return our phone calls to give us an update.) We went to the shop to see what was going on and the guys were not even willing to explain he just said take your bike. Along with that he tried keeping the part we paid for (Make sure to keep your receipt. Lucky we got the part back after we went back to ask for it). All we wanted was communication and they didn’t even give us the chance to say that. They were rude and defensive. Save your money and time.

I honestly have no idea how there are 5 star reviews on here. Ive considered them fake at this point. I called and inquired about any available appointments. She simply said for what. I told her that Id be needing my stator replaced and she said we dont do appointments for that and said nothing else. So I asked how they did the appointments, she asked me if I had purchased the stator myself. I did and am willing to admit fault on my own if it doesnt work after being replaced. She still refused business with me and was incredibly rude. She had used the very derogatory terms which Im not keen to hearing as a customer. Im not only not going to ever do business with them but Ill be doing everything I can to ensure friends and family of mine never come here for service.

Wow what amazing folks. Sweetest people in the business. I went to team R&S for a repair not only did they want to charge me 800 bucks for the repair they said it would take a couple weeks. Teresa and doug took me in. This is my first bike and I was recommended here from a friend who works at a body shop. They will work there hardest to help someone out. They will try to fit you in the schedule and get you the best advice available. There are some times when I have just called to get some advice and Teresa just gave it to me. My bike has ran great since I have been there. They have been amazing at just about everything. I will never go anywhere else for my bike repairs. The good thing is they will recommend you use the better parts and let you know that they are more expensive. They let you use whatever parts you want but will let you know if you are buying parts that are less expensive they might not last as long. I love these guys and thanks for everything!!

I have many motorcycles; recently I purchased a 1981 Honda C70 that had not run in over 20 years. The folks at J&D were able to help me find parts for this 34 old bike. They were able to get the motor working by replacing the valves, this motorcycle is so much fun! I was treated very well and the service was great; they called me and gave me a price estimate, they even helped me find some obsolete parts. I intend to return soon; I would also note that the shop is very busy which for me is an indication that other customers are repeat customers. The price estimate was exact and the service was great!

I have found they always treat me extremely fair and honest on parts and labor costs. I had taken one of my bikes to a local dealer and it was really expensive for what was done. After that I found J&D and have been taking my vehicles there ever since. They fix what you ask for correctly the first time. I have highly recommended J&D to friends who have had the same experience as me. I will surely be bringing some additional projects to J&D.

Ive been a rider for 10 years in this town and given a lot of business to a lot of different shops. I dont know anybody who puts as much care and attention into doing what they do as J&D Cycle. This is, without a doubt, the best shop in Albuquerque with fair prices and a customer-service driven attitude. The two of them care deeply about their customers and treat them as family; the prices are fair and the work is always performed exactly correctly. You may find a shop somewhere that will change your tire or bolt on a part for a dollar less, but you will -never- find a shop more deserving of your trust when you need something done and done right the first time. I have a good relationship with the guys at the factory dealer for my motorcycle, but when I need my bike worked on, its done at J&D. Doug is the only mechanic Ill let touch my bike and in the six years Ive known him, hes never steered me wrong. Go there!

Wow. If I had the option to leave no stars, I certainly would but, alas. I had a horrific experience trying to get basic repairs completed at this shop. I brought the bike in because it was stalling in first gear and the throttle sticking. There was also a sentinel event that involved the bike over-heating and smoking, all of which scared the bejesus out of me. I requested that my carbs be assessed and the owner, Doug, dismissed my request as ill-informed. To be fair, I dont know much about bikes and told acknowledged this...but some things are just intuitive. Im guessing the more salient issue contributing to his disregard is my gender (female). I observed the different types of interactions Doug had with his male customers, and warn any women (or anyone who cares about women) that may be considering this shop to take their business elsewhere, regardless of the presenting issue. After a week in the shop, nothing substantive had been done to repair my bike. Doug made a bunch of excuses and upsold me another repair. We renegotiated and I agreed to parts and labor for newer throttle cables, which Doug assured me would solve the throttle return issues I was having. Doug had my bike for over two weeks and was not able to complete the agreed-upon repairs in that time, though he stated to me, via phone, that he had. When I came to pick-up the bike, which he stated had the new cables installed, the the throttle return was still sticking in certain positions. (His suggestion?: To FORCE the throttle back when it sticks.) I explained to him that this did not make me feel safe. When I attempted to brainstorm with him about other potential causes, Doug made a pile of excuses and resorted to gas-lighting me about the necessity of a reliable throttle return. When I showed him that the throttle returned completely on the neighboring bikes in his shop, he decompensated and began screaming at me in the parking lot. This individual clearly has an anger management problem, and given the fact that he openly carries a gun on his hip at all times, I have identified him as legitimately dangerous. As I was trying to de-escalate the situation, Doug screamed at me that he never wanted to see my bike again. Hahaha - Im guessing because he doesnt know how to fix it...? The worst part? - As I was trying to extricate myself from the situation, the bike kept stalling in the parking lot...because of course, Doug hadnt fixed that issue, either. At this point, a younger henchman came out and also began verbally abusing me. The bike stalled four, seperate times in traffic on the way home. You know, the other issue I brought it to the shop for.Ive never experienced anything like it in my life. Imagine, a professional, soft-spoken female just trying to get her old bike running and being met with someone this unhinged. Now, of course, I am hearing from other folks in the motorcycle repair community that Doug has a reputation for dishonesty, shoddy work, and a rage problem. I am taking time to write this review in hopes of proactively dissuading other potential customers, so that they might avoid a similarly traumatic experience. *See his ultra-professional response below for further evidence.*

After having problems with other shops mounting tires backwards, or using excessive weights, I decided to try J&Ds Cycle. I read the reviews, some good, some bad, but liked the idea of the small shop, that believes in quality over quantity, as stated on their website. My new Ninja, with 3500 miles needed new tires, so I brought the wheels to them and had them mount and balance both. It took them a day to get to the wheels, and I picked them up near closing the following day. After mounting on the bike, and cleaning up the residue from the mounting process, I was sad to discover numerous scratches along the outer edge of the rim.Shame, brand new wheels, scarred on their first tire mounting. I had hoped for better service, as they advertised quality work.I give them 2 stars, because im sure there are other services they provide that they are good at. But I certainly wont be bringing any wheels here for tires.A tire can be remounted in the right direction, or rebalanced correctly. But scratched wheels are there for the life of the bike until someone steps up to the plate and repowder-coats your wheels.B

I am a long-time (over ten years), very satisfied customer of J&D Cycle. No one else, including authorized dealers, has been able to troubleshoot my 2001 April scooter like Doug, and Theresa has never been anything but helpful and courteous. I really like their dog, too! Most of my problems have been due to rider neglect, but Doug has always worked with me and even suggested some tweaks to my engine to accommodate my infrequent riding periods in winter. Unlike many of Doug and Theresas customers, I ride for pleasure and dont rely upon my scooter for transportation to work. Nonetheless, Doug never bumps me for more important work. Instead, he puts in the extra time to take care of other customers and still get my bike repaired as promised. Doug and Theresa have not escaped the unfortunate Albuquerque crime wave. They recently had to do a massive relocation of their motorcycle and pinball repair business to prevent further break-ins. Still, they have been working away on their inventory of broken machines with their usual dedication to customer service. So, I was quite taken aback by the review posted on this site recently by Jaime Jeffries. I got the whole story and confirmed it through third party sources, and I feel that the record must be set straight. First, of course Doug wants to get your business. Doesnt every business owner want your business? Second, some mechanics charge a diagnostic fee (time is money, and no one should be asked to work for free) but generally they apply some or all of that fee to the cost of repairs if they are hired for the work. The alternative is to provide an estimate; it depends on the case. In any event, what happened here was that the customer had a battery problem, plain and simple. Doug did not have the correct replacement battery in stock. Before the customer left his shop, Doug had charged the old battery and explained that it would no longer hold a charge long enough for the bike to be ridden for very long. On her own, the customer elected to roll the bike down the street to a nearby Cycle Gear to buy a new battery. Doug and Theresa have sent many customers to this store. DOUG CHECKED THE ELECTRIC SYSTEM ON THE BIKE IN THE CUSTOMERS PRESENCE BEFORE SHE LEFT HIS SHOP, AND THE SYSTEM WAS WORKING JUST FINE. When the customer showed up at Cycle Gear she was waited on by a salesperson who has his own cycle repair business on the side or, as Mr. Jeffries review states, owned his own shop. I guess he just wanted the business, because instead of selling Dougs customer the needed battery, he pitched unnecessary work to the customer and bad-mouthed J&D Cycle to get it. Appalling, really. People should not be able to manipulate innocent customers and slander hard-working small business owners for personal gain. Thats my view. Thanks for reading.

Dropped my bike off on Saturday, November 14th, 2009 after I went down to get setup for repairs. I was told I would be called by Monday or Tuesday with an estimate so that we can get to work on it. In the meantime I healed and went to the chiropractor to get straightened out. I was not called, but I did not care because I could not ride anyway until the bumps and bruises healed. I figured they were busy, but I was hurt and it was cold so I did not care at the time. Right around Christmas time I decide to call for an update. I was informed they were waiting on insurance and I told them that was not the deal from day one and reminded them of when they were supposed to call me but did not. I decided to go pick the bike up but when I got there they charged me a 5$/day storage fee even though they didnt follow through on their end and admitted they made a mistake in believing that they were waiting on insurance when in fact they were told it was going to be a cash deal in the beginning. Good bunch of guys and a good mechanic, but I cant recommend because I was charged $150 for storage even though it was their mistake. 5 stars for good work. 1 star for doing business. My recommendation, 1 stars. No matter how good the service is it is inexcusable to take someones money to pay for your mistakes. If they wouldnt have screwed me out of money I would have been a lifelong customer. Be sure to follow up on what you task them to do.

I love these guys!Look, they know their stuff, they charge fair prices for great work, and they fix it if something unforeseen happens...because they care about making their customers happy.Doug is more than willing to let you pick his brain, and since I love working on my bikes and pass it over to Doug for sensitive things like carb tunings, or fitful, annoying things like fork seals and such, I like that I can learn about my bikes, get good work done, and know that when he offers a solution, its the way the problem should be approached....No inventing extra issues to bill more hours, they just do what needs doing, and do it well....Ive read some of the poor reviews, and they dont faze me a bit. My wife has recently purchased a 1980 Yamaha XS850 that we are in the process of getting up and running. Currently, to get the motorcycle started, she has to use a screwdriver to short out the contacts on the starter switch assembly on the side of the bike to get it started. I had advised that she need to replace the starter solenoid switch. She stopped in at J & D on Monday and talked to a gentleman about getting a new solenoid for her motorcycle. The gentleman proceeded to get indignant and insisted that there is no such thing as a solenoid on the bike. When my wife pressed on and asked what she was shorting out with a screwdriver to start the bike, the gentleman proceeded to walk off and left her with a lady to help my wife. The lady was unable to find the solenoid after my wife described where it was located on the bike and what it looked like. Finally the lady rudely insisted that if the bike had been brought in, then they could have helped my wife.My wife felt she was treated very rudely by the people at the shop. We are new to motorcycles and this is her first bike. Because of the impression left on my wife, I wont be doing any business with J&D Cycle.Call the part a Starter Switch Assembly if you want, but it is also described as a Starter Solenoid when looking up parts online. I received a call today from Teresa(one of shop owners) and I quote Hi Matt its Teresa from J and D Cycle, I saw review on Google for us, thats really great, you didnt mention your stator is dead (which it is but it completely irrelevant to any point in my review or conversation) Im going to do some research and find out who your CO (commanding officer because Im active duty Air Force) is. Clearly she has nothing better to do than sit around and harass me on the phone, which, would explain why it took so long for them to start my bike and sync the carbs. which they said they did to the best they could with the condition of the bike. Now, I did not know much about motorcycles, but she suggested they replace the stator (alternator) and I declined because of the ridiculous pricing they gave me. Took the bike home and an hour later had the oil drained, old stator out, and ready for a new one. I will never be bringing my bike to this shop again which is a shame because Dave seems like a nice fellow, but Teresa is one of the rudest and most unprofessional receptionists/whatever else she does, I have ever encountered. J&D Cycle in Albuquerque is the worst. They lie to you to get your business. The wife told me first the diagnostic fee is $80.00 and would be rolled into the amount to fix it. Most places do that to your business so in essence they dont charge you the diagnostic fee if you give them the work. That was lie number one. They say theyll start on it as soon as it get there and they dont. They promised us a diagnosis within 72 hours and didnt recieve that. The wife called to tell us it was an electrical problem and they need to order the parts which was 160.00 supposedly. Paid for that. She said she didnt know an eta. I called to confirm if they recieved the parts and the husband said in fact yes and theyd be calling us shortly. They called us yesterday to tell us it was ready so we went to pick it up. Although we walked through there garage a few times before suddenly we had to go around to the front. It was pretty shady that they would let us go around back to ride off on it. Well they pulled ut around to the front only after I paid 268.00 dollars more. It ran for like a minute and died. So we brought them back out and they looked at the battery started it again and sent us on our way to push it down the road to cycle gear so they could close. Well cycle was very very nice. They didnt have many nice things to say about JD Cycle.. the personbi spoke to there owned his own shop and said that theyd love to sell me a 60.00 battery but its not the battery. Itll blow out the battery since the charging system isnt working. We called and spoke to the wife today she was rude and not remorseful at all or concerned. She didnt even offer to look into it. Point being they never even fixed it as it came out with the same problem itvwent in with. They will defraud you and steal money they know they didnt earn. Very shady people... the husband snd the wife are the owners.

I recently inherited a Shovelhead HD which had been sitting unridden for 6 years and needed some electrical work. After being shocked by the revelation that the local big Harley shops wouldnt even touch a bike that old (so much for HDs legacy), I got in touch with J & D who, from the get-go, expressed complete confidence that they could get the work done. After meeting with head mechanic Doug and seeing J & Ds side operation repairing classic pinball machines, I was optimistic that they were the right people to understand an older electrical system like mine. I didnt give them any kind of need-it-by date so it took a couple of weeks before they started on it, but I was willing to wait, knowing that when they did look at it, it would get Dougs undivided attention. Sure enough, the bikes electrical problems were sorted out with minimal trouble. They were even willing to babysit it for a few extra days before I could round up a trailer. Their hourly labor rates are also reasonably priced. Its nice to know there are competent alternatives to the big gift shops for older bikes like mine, and J & D will probably be the first place I head back to if I need additional help.

I would like to take a moment to share my experience with j&d cycle. This is a legitimate review, not a review by a google user. I was on a road trip from Detroit, MI to San Diego. I left on Monday 08/18/2014 and arrived in San Diego on 08/22/14. I had originally planned on passing through Albuquerque and spending the night in Phoenix. On my way through New Mexico from Amarillo, TX., I stopped at a rest stop right outside of Albuquerque when I realized my front tire had some bulges on the tread surface. Knowing I had another 3,000+ miles before I would be home, I was in a panic and called cyclegear looking for someone to replace my front tire. Susan at cycle gear sold me the tire I needed and recommended j&d cycle for the installation. She made the phone call and called me back in less than minutes. I bought the tire and she personally drove the tire for me to j&d as I was alone on my road trip and had no way to transport a tire. When I arrived to j&d cycle, I was greeted by a very friendly dog and Teresa. I was impressed by the number of different bikes in the shop, from new to vintage. They also had a small side room with some arcade games. The gentleman who was working on my bike explained to me that the bulging on the front tire was called feathering, and was normal, but I insisted that they change out the tire as I did not know the age of the tire and I knew it probably wouldnt last the remaining 3000+ miles. I also mentioned that my bike was stalling when I disengaged the clutch and that I wanted my chain tension checked/adjusted if needed. He explained that the stalling was due to the bike being fuel injected and that because of their elevation in Albuquerque, the bike needed to do a barometric pressure reset. They could tell that I was having a rough day and they recommended a great Chinese restaurant and let me plug in my cell phone to charge while I was gone. I basically left all of my belongings with people who I had met 20 minutes prior, but I knew they were good people.I had come in 35 minutes before they closed, so I rushed to grab my food eat, and get out of there. To make an already long story short, they replaced my front tire, adjusted and lubed my chain, and he also showed me that my clutch lever needed to be adjusted, which he did as well. I expected to pay a lot for everything they had done. To my surprise, my total was $55. I explained to Teresa that I expected to pay a lot more, and she explained that she couldnt justify charging me anymore because I was from out of town. I was totally amazed. My experience with J&D Cycle is by far one of the best I have had with any small business in a very long time. They treated me like a guest in their home, not a customer. They could have easily charged me whatever they wanted and I would have had to have payed it given the situation. I took one of their vinyl decals and stuck it to the side of my helmet. If you are anywhere near J&D, even if you are hours away, it is well worth the trip to deal with people who care about their business and take pride in what they do. I know I told you when I was there, but they saved my life and made my road trip a memorable one I will never forget. Thank you J&D Cycle.Dave Camilleri

In march i took my bike in because it would stall out at stop lights. they (teresa and dave) said i should have it back in 4-6weeks. after waiting over 14 weeks and 3 complaints later. i called them and told them that id just go in and pick up my bike and parts and take it somewhere else. teresa is the most rude unprofesional person ive ever met. while i was picking my stuff up i found that im missing all my brackets which were custom made along with nuts and bolts which everyone knows are not easy to come by. i feel that they used my parts on other bikes. i was told hold on im looking for them. so i loaded and tied down my bike. then went back in to ask for my parts again. this time teresa started yelling and curssing at me. so loud that a customer out side heard and told me that they would never go back there due to teresa. so now i have to go to court to get my parts back and my bikes still in peaces . so i want what i payed for labor back too. all i can say is that if u respect yourself or your bike never go to j and d cycle. RUDE DISRESPECTIFUL DISHONEST UNPROFESSIONAL AND CANT FIX A BIKE TO SAVE THEIR LIVES. do yourself a favor and never go here.....

This place is a joke! They dont even honor their parts or sales. Teresa sold me motorcycle parts and told me they would fit. When they didnt, I tried to return the parts she denied I even bought them there. Stay far away from these crooks!!

Got my bike engine rebuilt by them and all gaskets leak oil when I take it riding also asked them if they could replace all the bearings inside the engine while they had it open and when I finally got it back they gave me the new bearings back and said that it saved us both money by not replacing them because they were still good but I asked them to replace them regardless but at least it runs I guess
